Currently, the artworks restoration, including broken statues, are based on proven but empirical techniques. Damaged statues often have broken parts. Restoration mainly consists in joining these parts. Thus appears the necessity of taking into account the interfaces mechanical properties between the different broken parts, reducing thereby the extent of repairs and thus better maintain the integrity of the work. Beside this, digital 3D acquisition techniques become more and more popular among the cultural heritage community. This thesis proposes a methodology able to use 3D acquisition datas to simulate the restoration operations and their effects on the structure. The restoration strategy can thus be tested and optimized. A laser scanner is used to acquire the statue geometry, allowing to reconstruct a 3D model for numerical simulation. Computations are carried out within the framework of deformable continuum mechanics using the FLAC3D software. In order to check all the key points ensuring mechanical stability, the behavior of reinforcing elements and those of the interfaces between blocks were considered. From the results of the present studies, a critical analysis of implemented or possible restoration strategy is proposed. In addition, several characterization methods to find the material origin and/or estimate the mechanical properties of the work are proposed : physico-chemical and mineralogical characterizations, non-destructive and destructive tests. An experimental campaign to characterize the behavior of fractures in contact with surface acquisition was performed. An analysis of correlations between mechanical and morphological interfaces properties is then developed. Finally, we propose a predictive modelling based on multiple linear and multivariate regressions. This study allow the simulation of fractured artworks behaviour.; Actuellement, la restauration des oeuvres d’art, notamment des statues fracturées, repose sur des techniqueséprouvées, mais empiriques. Les statues endommagées comportent souvent des parties brisées. Leur restaurationconsiste la plupart du temps à les rassembler. Ainsi apparait la nécessité de prendre en compte lespropriétés mécaniques des interfaces entre les différentes parties brisées, ce qui permet de limiter l’ampleur desréparations et ainsi, de mieux conserver l’intégrité de l’oeuvre. Par ailleurs, les techniques numériques d’acquisition3D font leur entrée au service de la conservation du patrimoine. Cette thèse propose une méthodologiecapable d’utiliser des données issues d’une acquisition 3D pour simuler les opérations de restauration et leurseffets sur la structure de l’oeuvre. Les processus de restauration peuvent ainsi être testés et optimisés.Un scanner laser est utilisé pour l’acquisition de la géométrie des oeuvres, ce qui nous permet de reconstruireun modèle 3D pour la simulation numérique. Les calculs sont menés dans le cadre de la mécanique des milieuxcontinus déformables avec FLAC3D. Pour vérifier tous les points clés garantissant la stabilité mécanique, lecomportement des éléments de renforts et celui des interfaces entre les blocs ont été considérés. À partirdes résultats de ces études, une critique des stratégies de restauration mises en oeuvre ou envisageables estproposée.De plus, plusieurs méthodes de caractérisation visant à retrouver la provenance du matériau et/ou estimerles propriétés mécaniques de l’oeuvre sont proposées : caractérisations physico-chimiques et minéralogiques,essais non destructifs et destructifs. Une campagne expérimentale visant à caractériser le comportement desfractures en contact frottant avec acquisition de l’état de surface a été réalisée. Une analyse des corrélationsentre les propriétés mécaniques et morphologique des interfaces est ensuite élaborée. Enfin nous proposonsdes modèles prédictifs construits par régressions linéaires multiples et multivariées. Cette étude permet desimuler le comportement d’une oeuvre fracturée.

International audience; Region growing methods are of potential interest to define within-field zones and resulting site-specific management. These methods are unsupervised and based on regions which grow from the initial seeds according to homogeneity criteria. However, the determination of seed number and seed locations has strong repercussions on the zoning output. This paper proposes an approach to allow knowledge inherited from geostatistical analysis to guide the seed initialization (seed number and location) of a region growing-based segmentation method. In this study, the segmentation method is a general division/merging procedure, which in this study is used for merging and region growing. An original point is the possibility to use it either for irregularly located data or data arranged on a regular grid. The initialization of the segmentation method is guided by a prior analysis where a few parameters of the semi-variogram model are used to set i) the number of seeds required to initialize the region growing procedure, ii) to decide their relative locations (i.e. minimal distance between seeds) and iii) to identify potential outliers as seeds that may flaw the growing procedure. Both methods were tested on two data sets : i) three hypothetical fields of known distribution and known spatial organization ii) a real field where yield monitor data were obtained. A qualitative analysis of the results is presented, as well as the evolution of the variance explained by the model.

The work presented here deals with continental hydrosystem modelling for sustainable management of water resources. It aims at better understanding the hydrological cycle, stream-aquifer interfaces functioning, as well as the anthropogenic impacts on water quality (agricultural practices, urban effluents). Understanding the temporal and spatial variations of piezometric heads is a prerequisite to achieve a sustainable water management. First piezometric head spatial distribution are estimated using various interpolation techniques. Afterwards they are used to perform an automatic calibration of the diffusivity equation. Based on an extensive literature review on multi-parameter optimization and inverse problem, a pragmatic hybrid fitting method that couples manual and automatic calibration is developed for Distributed Process Based Models (DPBMs) of hydrosystems. Three independent data subsets are used for calibration (10 yr), validation (10 yr) and test (35 yr). The fitted DPBM, coupled with a linear model of co-regionalization, is then used to quantify the hydrosystem water mass balance between 1974 and 2009 on the Loire bassin, indicating that the aquifer system is slightly over-exploited. Recent developments in hydrological modelling are based on a view of the stream-aquifer interface being a single continuum through which water flows. These coupled hydrological-hydrogeological models, emphasizing the importance of the stream-aquifer interface, are more and more used in hydrological sciences for pluri-disciplinary studies aiming at questioning environmental issues. We first define the concept of nested stream-aquifer interfaces as a key transitional component of continental hydrosystem. Based on a literature review, we then demonstrate the usefulness of the concept for the multi-dimensional study of the stream-aquifer interface, with a special emphasis on the stream network which is identified as the key component for scaling hydrological processes occurring at the interface. Finally we focus on the stream-aquifer interface modelling at different scales, with up-to-date methodologies and give some guidances for interdisciplinary approaches that couple multi-dimensional monitoring and modelling of the interface. Finally water quality models are investigated based on the river continuum concept that considers community centered models. The ProSe model is used to simulate the Seine river from Paris City to the entrance of the estuary. It appears that hydro-sedimentary processes are of primary importance with regards to the biogeochemical functioning of the river. The influence of stream-aquifer interfaces on biogeochemical fluxes grows even more further upstream. Finally, geostatistics is used to reduce DPBM uncertainties when assessing nitrate concentrations. Mismatches between simulated and observed variograms are analysed as (i) wrong quantification of inputs to the river and (ii) wrong description of physical processes within the river.; L'ensemble des travaux présentés ici est centré sur la modélisation des hydrosystèmes continentaux comme support de la gestion durable de la ressource en eau. Ils portent sur la compréhension du cycle de l'eau, du fonctionnement des interfaces nappe-rivière, et de l'impact de l'anthropisation sur la qualité des eaux (pratiques agricoles, rejets urbains). Une réflexion transverse sur une meilleure imbrication entre stratégies d'échantillonnage et stratégies de modélisation, et un souci permanent de quantifier les incertitudes liées aux modèles déterministes au moyen de diverses techniques, sont aussi au cœur des travaux présentés. Le premier chapitre s'intéresse aux bases de la modélisation quantitative des hydrosystèmes continentaux. L'utilisation de cartes piézométriques permet de mettre en œuvre des techniques de calibration automatique, via des approches inverses, de modèles simulant les écoulements souterrains. Ce potentiel a été exploité par la conceptualisation d'une méthodologie hybride d'ajustement de mmd (modèle mécaniste distribué) d'hydrosystème. La simulation du bassin de la Loire réalisée avec EauDyssée, couplée à l'utilisation du modèle linéaire de co-régionalisation pour analyser les différentes composantes du cycle de l'eau, mènent à la conclusion que le système aquifère est en légère sur-exploitation. Un retour sur le concept d'hydrosystème continental permet de le structurer explicitement autour de ses interfaces emboîtées. Ce cadre théorique permet alors d'aborder la problématique des échanges nappe-rivière en fonction des échelles d'étude, et d'identifier l'échelle intermédiaire du corridor fluvial comme étant la clé de voûte des emboîtements d'échelles. De plus, ce découpage affiné de l'hydrosystème facilite la réflexion nécessaire à la mise en place de systèmes d'observation multi-échelle du comportement hydrologique des interfaces nappe-rivière. Si les échelles locales et intermédiaires autorisent le déploiement de tels systèmes, une analyse bibliographique approfondie montre qu'il n'en va pas de même de l'échelle régionale, pour laquelle des méthodologies couplant observations et modélisations doivent être développées. Il est alors montré que l'utilisation du modèle résistif couplé à une simulation dynamique des niveaux d'eau en rivière permet de bien simuler les comportements piézométriques à court et moyen termes. Le dernier chapitre démarre par la mise en œuvre du modèle hydrocologique, ProSe, sur le linéaire de la Seine depuis l'amont de Paris jusqu'à l'estuaire. L'étude de l'interaction entre les processus biogéochimiques et les processus hydro-sédimentaires révèle l'importance de ces derniers. L'impact des stocks de vase sur l'oxygénation des eaux de surface est aussi significatif pour les rivières aval. Le rôle joué par les interfaces devient primordial dans les têtes de bassin, où elles contrôlent la qualité de l'eau. Pour le bassin amont du Grand Morin, la modélisation du devenir des nitrates d'origine agricole, a permis de montrer que l'azote était éliminé, dans sa grande majorité, au niveau des interfaces nappe-rivière. Finalement, afin de mieux comprendre le devenir des nitrates dans les grandes rivières, la comparaison de deux cadres cognitifs (interprétation des observations et représentations des processus) a été menée à l'aide du modèle linéaire de co-régionalisation. Appliquée à la Seine, cette approche a permis d'analyser les écarts, entre modèles et mesures, associés soit à des erreurs de forçage du modèle déterministe (conditions aux limites), soit à des erreurs de formalisme des processus physiques ou/et de paramétrisation du modèle.

Aimed at studying the mechanical behaviour of rock mass and considering the presence of the discontinuity network in the intact rock, this research concentrates on how the rock can be represented in suitable geometrical models, on the basis of site measurements, and then appropriately analysed using computer tools developed for the study of granular media. The first chapter deals with a bibliographical study on fractured rock and tunnel engineering. Different computational methods of rock mechanics are introduced. Simultaneously, three principal approaches for tunnel structural design are recalled. These studies lead to the proposition of a methodology from the in situ investigation to in-door modelling and mechanical analysis, presented in the second chapters. The rock mass is first geometrically represented through the distribution of discontinuities in the rock mass and the use of the RESOBLOK code based on the Discrete Fracture Network method. Mechanical models of rock mass are then presented from the data of historical studies on the rock mass and from laboratory and in situ measurements. The 3D computational models are analysed using the LMGC90 based on the Non Smooth Contact Dynamics method. The first two applications of the methodology are introduced: the generation of the numerical rock for the simulation of the triaxial compression test, and the simulation of multi-phase excavation of rock tunnel. The proposed methodology has been applied on the white marble of Saint Béat (Haute Garonne, France) and the initial results are given in the third chapter. Le projet de recherche EO4REDD, a pour but de développer un service complet de suivi des changements de stocks de carbone forestier avec précision. EO4REDD requiert donc l'évaluation des incertitudes relatives aux données de mesure et la mesure des incertitudes générées à plusieurs étapes de la chaine de production. EO4REDD recherche à améliorer la précision de ses produits par l'analyse géostatistique et autres techniques statistiques.

Urban areas located in floodplains offer a great geo-archaeological potential for the comprehension of fluvial dynamics on long term and its relationship with land occupation, as they allow exploiting many survey data of the basement. In the floodplain of Tours, shared by the River Loire and Cher river, relations between human societies and environment are the subject of an interdisciplinary work within the frame of an archaeological program initiated in the late 1960's. A sedimentary database including 1309 surveys has been created then exploited in a geographic information system to produce geomorphological and geostatical models. The stratigraphy and chronology of the alluvial filling were also studied with surveys and 14C and OSL dating obtained in the course of archaeological prospections. The combined results provide a new reading of the morphological evolution of the floodplain of Tours from the Weichselian to nowadays., Les zones urbaines situées dans les plaines alluviales offrent un grand potentiel géo-archéologique pour la compréhension de la dynamique fluviale dans la longue durée et ses relations avec l'occupation du sol en contexte anthropisé, car elles permettent d'exploiter des très nombreuses données de sondages du sous-sol. Dans la plaine alluviale de Tours, partagée par la Loire et le Cher, les relations sociétés/milieux font l'objet de travaux interdisciplinaires autour d'un programme de recherches archéologiques initié à la fin des années 1960. Une base de données sédimentaires comprenant 1309 sondages a été constituée puis exploitée dans un système d'information géographique pour produire des modèles géostatistiques et géomorphologiques. La stratigraphie et la chronologie du remplissage alluvial ont également été étudiées avec des sondages et des datations 14C et OSL obtenues à l'occasion d'opérations archéologiques. Les résultats croisés permettent une lecture renouvelée de l'évolution morphologique de la plaine alluviale tourangelle du Weichsélien à nos jours.

This work deals with prediction of anopheles number using environmental and climate variables. The variables selection is performed by GLMM (Generalized linear mixed model) combined with the Lasso method and simple cross validation. Selected variables are debiased while the prediction is generated by simple GLMM. Finally, the results reveal to be qualitatively better, at selection, the prediction point of view than those obtained by the reference method.

International audience; In many fields, due to the increasing number of automatic sensors and devices, there is an emerging need to integrate georeferenced and temporal data into decision support tools. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geostatistics lack some functionalities for modelling and reasoning using georeferenced data. Soft computing techniques and software suited to these needs may be useful to implement new functionalities and use them for modelling and decision making. This work presents an open source framework designed for that purpose. It is based upon open source toolboxes, and its design is inspired by the fuzzy software capabilities developed in FisPro for ordinary non-georeferenced data. Two real world applications in Agronomy are included, and some perspectives are given to meet the challenge of using soft computing for georeferenced data.

Geostatistics: Modeling Spatial Uncertainty by J.-P. Chilès and P. Delfiner publishedin 1999 has been one of the most cited reference book in Geostatistics and spatialstatistics in the last decade. There are very good reasons for this: it is, in my opinion,the most comprehensive book on geostatistics, with an in-depth coverage of all aspects,from random field theory and spectral representation to virtually all practicalissues arising when modeling spatial data, including variogram fitting, (co) kriging,estimating nonlinear quantities in presence of a change of support, or when performingconditional simulations. In a unique way, it reconciles theory and practice. It providesvery precise theoretical results and excellent advice on the practice of modelingspatial data. It is profusely illustrated with numerous application examples, mostly inearth science.

International audience; Rainfall is one of the most important inputs of hydrologic models. Lumped models use the areal rainfall as input (i.e. the rainfall spatially averaged within the catchment boundaries), while distributed models use the whole rainfall field. In both cases, understanding and quantifying the spatial variability of rainfall is required to improve the calibration and prediction of hydrologic models. Unfortunately, spatial rainfall is not measured directly. Instead, it is generally estimated based on: (i) (sparse) measurements from the raingauge network; (ii) (imprecise) indirect radar estimates; or (iii) a combination of them. Such estimates are affected by significant uncertainties that need to be quantified. This poster focuses on the estimation of spatial rainfall based on raingauge measurements, and aims at assessing the reliability of a geostatistical approach to quantify the uncertainty in spatial rainfall. This approach is based on a turning-band based spatio-temporal rainfall generator used in conditional simulation (CS) mode: the generated rainfall fields match the observed values at the raingauge locations, but differ elsewhere. In other words, the rainfall generator simulates multiple realizations of the rainfall in between raingauges, therefore quantifying the uncertainty associated with the incomplete spatial coverage of the raingauge network. A case study is used to illustrate the application of the rainfall generator and to assess the reliability of its conditional simulations. It is based on hourly data from 64 raingauges over the period 2000-2008, located within or near the Ardèche catchment at Sauze (South-Eastern France, 2240 km²). 25 raingauges are used to calibrate the rainfall generator, which includes: (i) a clustering procedure to define a restricted number of homogeneous “rainfall types”; (ii) the estimation of the geostatistical properties of rainfall within each type (spatial and temporal variograms, local distribution). The conditional simulation of 100 replicates (using the 25 calibration raigauges as conditioning values) is then performed. Those 100 CS replicates are finally evaluated against 39 validation raingauges, which were use neither for calibration nor for conditioning. Overall, this validation exercise highlights an acceptable reliability of the CS replicates. However, the reliability differs significantly for different rainfall types: in general, CS replicates are far more reliable for heavy autumnal rainfall types than for types corresponding to small and scattered rainfall events. These results suggest several avenues to improve the geostatistical model behind the simulation.

International audience; Multivariate geostatistical modeling can be used to generate spatial patterns of hydro-climate data over ungauged regions, but these models may be unsuitable when the hydro-climatological data available over large and remote areas are sparse and show different scales of resolution. In these cases, reduced complexity modeling can be better used in order to increase understanding of hydrological extremes at spatial scales and over time periods not covered by rainfall records. In this study we present and evaluate the African Rainfall Erosivity Subregional Empirical Downscaling (ARESED) model which has been developed based on hydro-climatological and geotopographic data from 46 stations across Africa with very varied climates and elevations. We spatially downscale the 85th percentile of monthly precipitation, based on several decades of data, from 50 km to 10 km grid squares in order to predict values of rainfall erosivity across Africa. This yields inputs comparable to values based on the standard Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). The 46 African stations were chosen for model development because they are also sites for which there are RUSLE-based erosivity values. Once parameterized to capture mean rainfall erosivity over several decades, the ARESED model was run as a validation tool, comparing the output with actual erosivity data. On a continental scale and over decadal time scales, the ARESED model captures most of the important processes within the hydro-climatological system. Its reduced complexity structure also makes it suitable for application to regional management and environmental planning

Variance-based global sensitivity analysis is used to study how the variability of the output of a numerical model can be apportioned to different sources of uncertainty in its inputs. It is an essential component of model building as it helps to identify model inputs that account for most of the model output variance. However, this approach is seldom applied in Earth and Environmental Sciences, partly because most of the numerical models developed in this field include spatially distributed inputs or outputs . Our research work aims to show how global sensitivity analysis can be adapted to such spatial models, and more precisely how to cope with the following two issues: i) the presence of spatial auto-correlation in the model inputs, and ii) the scaling issues. We base our research on the detailed study of the numerical code NOE, which is a spatial model for cost-benefit analysis of flood risk management plans. We first investigate how variance-based sensitivity indices can be computed for spatially distributed model inputs. We focus on the "map labelling" approach, which allows to handle any complex spatial structure of uncertainty in the model inputs and to assess its effect on the model output. Next, we offer to explore how scaling issues interact with the sensitivity analysis of a spatial model. We define "block sensitivity indices" and "site sensitivity indices" to account for the role of the spatial support of model output. We establish the properties of these sensitivity indices under some specific conditions. In particular, we show that the relative contribution of an uncertain spatially distributed model input to the variance of the model output increases with its correlation length and decreases with the size of the spatial support considered for model output aggregation. By applying our results to the NOE modelling chain, we also draw a number of lessons to better deal with uncertainties in flood damage modelling and cost-benefit analysis of flood risk management plans.; L'analyse de sensibilité globale basée sur la variance permet de hiérarchiser les sources d'incertitude présentes dans un modèle numérique et d'identifier celles qui contribuent le plus à la variabilité de la sortie du modèle. Ce type d'analyse peine à se développer dans les sciences de la Terre et de l'Environnement, en partie à cause de la dimension spatiale de nombreux modèles numériques, dont les variables d'entrée et/ou de sortie peuvent être des données distribuées dans l'espace. Le travail de thèse réalisé a pour ambition de montrer comment l'analyse de sensibilité globale peut être adaptée pour tenir compte des spécificités de ces modèles numériques spatialisés, notamment la dépendance spatiale dans les données d'entrée et les questions liées au changement d'échelle spatiale. Ce travail s'appuie sur une étude de cas approfondie du code NOE, qui est un modèle numérique spatialisé d'analyse coût-bénéfice de projets de prévention du risque d'inondation. On s'intéresse dans un premier temps à l'estimation d'indices de sensibilité associés à des variables d'entrée spatialisées. We establish the properties of these sensitivity indices under some specific conditions. In particular, we show that the relative contribution of an uncertain spatially distributed model input to the variance of the model output increases with its correlation length and decreases with the size of the spatial support considered for model output aggregation. By applying our results to the NOE modelling chain, we also draw a number of lessons to better deal with uncertainties in flood damage modelling and cost-benefit analysis of flood risk management plans.

International audience; Polemics about base stations of cellular telephones have become a recurrent source of conflict among telecommunication companies, city authorities and citizens. Following early work performed within the framework of a doctoral thesis, the french research projet ANR Samper (2008-2011) has set up, for the first time, a network of monitoring stations in an urban environment, whose measurements are processed continuously by geostatistical methods, in order to inform daily the inhabitants on the hourly variations of radioelectric exposure in their surroundings. More precisely, the system uses a kriging of the exposure measurements including as external drift the output of a physical model of the propagation of the radioelectric signal emitted at different frequencies by the base stations. We present the implementation of the ANR Samper pre-operational monitoring system set up during several months in a section of the city of Grenoble.

Le béluga du Saint-Laurent est une espèce menacée au Canada et protégée par la Loi sur les espèces en péril du Canada. La détermination des fonctions biologiques de ses habitats essentiels est nécessaire afin d’assurer le rétablissement de la population. Parcs Canada a entamé en 2009 un suivi des proies du béluga dans deux de ses aires de fréquentation intensive situées dans le Parc marin du Saguenay–Saint-Laurent : l’embouchure de la rivière Saguenay et la baie Sainte-Marguerite. L’étude de l’abondance et de la distribution des proies est réalisée par sondage hydroacoustique le long de transects à l’aide d’un échosondeur multifréquences. Un protocole d’observations systématiques du béluga est mené simultanément aux sondages hydroacoustiques à partir de sites terrestres. Le premier objectif de cette étude est de développer la méthodologie concernant le traitement, la classification et la cartographie des données hydroacoustiques échantillonnées. L’objectif principal consiste à déterminer si l’abondance et la distribution des proies pélagiques ont une influence sur l’utilisation de ces deux habitats par le béluga. La cartographie de la biomasse relative de poissons a été réalisée pour la couche de surface, la couche en profondeur et pour l’ensemble de la colonne d’eau par krigeage ordinaire pour les deux habitats pour les 29 transects. À la baie Sainte-Marguerite, le nombre de bélugas observés augmente avec la biomasse relative des proies en surface et en profondeur. À l’embouchure de la rivière Saguenay, les résultats n’ont pas été concluants. Les résultats suggèrent que l’alimentation pourrait être l’une des fonctions biologiques de la baie Sainte-Marguerite., The St. Lawrence beluga is a threatened species in Canada and protected by the Species at Risk Act in Canada. Determining the biological functions of its critical habitat is needed to ensure the recovery of the population. Parks Canada began in 2009 a monitoring of beluga preys in two of its areas of intensive use located in the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park: the Saguenay River mouth and the Sainte-Marguerite bay. The study of the abundance and distribution of prey is achieved by hydroacoustic survey along transects using a multifrequency echo sounder. A systematic observation protocol of the beluga is conducted simultaneously with hydroacoustic surveys from land-based stations. The first objective of this study is to develop the methodology for the processing, classification and mapping of these hydroacoustic data. The main objective is to determine whether the abundance and distribution of pelagic prey influence the use of these two habitats by beluga. The mapping of the fish relative biomass was conducted for the surface layer, the depth layer and the entire water column by ordinary kriging for the two habitats for the 29 transects. At Sainte-Marguerite bay, the number of whales observed increases with fish relative biomass in the surface and deep layers. At the Saguenay River mouth, the results are not conclusive. The results suggest that feeding may be one of the biological functions of the Sainte-Marguerite bay.

L'analyse de sensibilité globale basée sur la variance permet de hiérarchiser les sources d'incertitude présentes dans un modèle numérique et d'identifier celles qui contribuent le plus à la variabilité de la sortie du modèle. Ce type d'analyse peine à se développer dans les sciences de la Terre et de l'Environnement, en partie à cause de la dimension spatiale de nombreux modèles numériques, dont les variables d'entrée et/ou de sortie peuvent être des données distribuées dans l'espace. Le travail de thèse réalisé a pour ambition de montrer comment l'analyse de sensibilité globale peut être adaptée pour tenir compte des spécificités de ces modèles numériques spatialisés, notamment la dépendance spatiale dans les données d'entrée et les questions liées au changement d'échelle spatiale. Ce travail s'appuie sur une étude de cas approfondie du code NOE, qui est un modèle numérique spatialisé d'analyse coût-bénéfice de projets de prévention du risque d'inondation. On s'intéresse dans un premier temps à l'estimation d'indices de sensibilité associés à des variables d'entrée spatialisées. The main objective of this paper is to characterize the spatial and temporal variability of different types of rain events at scales that are consistent with urban hydrological applications. In this way, a total of 24 rain periods have been analyzed according to a geostatistical approach. This analysis has focused on the non-zero rainfall variogram. The studied rain periods were recorded by the weather radar of Treillières (10 km north of Nantes, France) in 2009. This radar device provides rainfall radar images with a high level of spatial resolution (250 m x 250 m) and instantaneous temporal resolution. Results indicated four different types of rainfall fields, which display very different variability scales, including double structures within the same field. These four types of rainfall fields can be characterized by their climatological variograms, as calculated for increasing time resolutions: instantaneous, 5 min, 15 min, and 30 min, thus making it possible to estimate the decorrelation distance (i.e. range). This study highlights the benefit of radar images featuring high temporal and spatial resolution, which in turn allow studying small-scale variability.

We calculate statistical predictions of changes in soil organic carbon (SOC), and attendant uncertainty from areal data across a region of France. The data consist of measurements of SOC from farms across the region collected in two time periods: 19951999, and 20002004. To protect the anonymity of farms that contributed, the data were summarised by commune; we were only able to use the average value, sample variance and number of observations from each commune. We consider how we can use data of this form to map temporal changes in SOC. We account for the dependence between data from the two surveys through a linear model of coregionalization. Cross-validation shows that by using the linear model of coregionalization to model inter-survey dependence, we obtain better estimates of SOC changes and better uncertainty assessments. We compare maps produced using the approaches showing the estimated SOC changes and probabilities of SOC decrease between the times of the two surveys. Copyright (c) 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Geostatistics provides many tools to characterize and deal with data spread in space. Most of these tools are based on the analysis and the modeling of a function called variogram. By characterizing the spatial correlation inherent to any data set, the variogram enables to build different spatial operators as estimation (kriging) and simulation ones. Variographic models are relatively intuitive: some variographic parameters can directly be interpreted as structural characteristics. These approaches are however limited since they are not enable to properly take into account the local data structure. There are several types of non-stationary geostatistical models. However, they are difficult to use in practice because they need a complicated, not really intuitive setting. Besides, they are not enable to take into account some types of non-stationarity. In order to answer the need for an effective and efficient consideration of non-stationarity of a data set, we have chosen, in the context of this PhD thesis, to compute local variographic parameters, called Moving Parameters (M-Parameters), by using image processing methods. Our approach relies mainly on the determination of morphological parameters of size and dimension. It follows from the determination of M-Parameters a better match between variographic models and structural characteristics of the data. These different methods for computing M-Parameters have been applied to bathymetry data, to data revealing complex geological bodies and to environmental data sets, such as air pollution in urban areas for example. These examples illustrate the improvements in the results of the geostatistical process using M-Parameters. Finally, based on the observation that some phenomena do not respect an euclidean metric (such as air pollution in urban areas), we have studied the influence of the choice of the distance metric on kriging results. Using geodesic distances, we have been able to obtain kriging results which are impossible to reproduce with an euclidean distance.; La géostatistique fournit de nombreux outils pour caractériser et traiter des données réparties dans l'espace. La cartographie des sols est d’une importance particulière pour bien comprendre leurs organisations, localisation, distribution spatiale, ainsi que leurs caractéristiques. Comprendre l’interrelation entre ces variables est une étape critique pour concevoir l’équilibre complexe des processus chimiques et physiques pour rendre, notamment, les écosystèmes agricoles plus productifs. Cette recherche explore le potentiel de la synergie entre les analyses au laboratoire, le GPS, les SIG et les méthodes d’interpolations déterministes (Spline et Inverse-Distance connue sous le nom IDW) et probabilistes (Krigeage ordinaire et Krigeage universel) pour cartographier les types de sols dans un environnement semi-aride. Pour atteindre nos objectifs, nous avons échantillonnés 254 points répartis de façon presque régulière en considérant toutes les classes de sols couvrant notre site d’étude.

The thesis is devoted to the characterization of the space-time structure of heavy rainfall events in the Cévennes-Vivarais area (France). The region is prone to catastrophic storms whose magnitude governs social and economic consequences at different space and time scales. The magnitude of an event cannot be univocally related to a probability of occurrence. The determination of the occurrence probability of storms is problematic because of their extreme character, of their complex space-time development and of the lack of rainfall data at the spatial and temporal scales of interest. We propose to adopt scale-invariant approaches in order to estimate the heavy rainfall frequency assessment. These approaches allow to extrapolate the high resolution rainfall distribution based on low resolution rainfall intensity data. The model estimation being heavily dependent of the data accuracy, the first step consists in the characterization of the error committed in the point and spatial rainfall estimated by tipping-bucket raingage networks. We then explore the extreme rainfall behavior in the region, detecting the range where extremes are scale-invariant. In this range, we present a regional Intensity-Duration-Frequency model for point rainfall maxima taking into account the heterogeneity of extremes in the region. We demonstrate that the rainfall network does not allow to detect scale-invariant properties of extreme rainfall fields, and then we adopt a semi-empirical method based on the concept of " dynamic scaling " to build regional Intensity-Duration-Area-Frequency curves. Finally, we apply this model for the determination of the severity diagrams for three significant storms in the Cévennes-Vivarais region, with the aim to identify the critical space-time scales of each event. Based on severity diagrams, we then evaluate, for the same events, the performances of a mesoscale meteorological model., Ce travail de thèse concerne la caractérisation de la structure spatio-temporelle des fortes précipitations dans la région Cévennes-Vivarais. La région est soumise à des événements de pluie catastrophiques dont la magnitude gouverne les conséquences à différentes échelles de temps et d'espace. La détermination de la probabilité d'occurrence des orages est problématique à cause du caractère extrême des ces événements, de leur dimension spatio-temporelle et du manque de données pluviométriques aux échelles d'intérêt. Nous proposons d'adopter des approches d'invariance d'échelles afin d'estimer la fréquence d'occurrence de ces événements. Ces approches permettent d'extrapoler la distribution de la pluie à haute résolution à partir de données d'intensité pluvieuse à plus faible résolution. La paramétrisation de ces modèles étant fortement dépendante de l'incertitude de la mesure, nous avons d'abord caractérisé l'erreur commise dans la mesure de la pluie par un réseau de pluviomètres à augets. Nous avons ensuite exploré le comportement des pluies extrêmes dans la région d'étude, identifiant les gammes d'invariance d'échelles des extrêmes. Dans cette gamme d'échelles, nous présentons un modèle régional Intensité-Durée-Fréquence qui prend en considération l'hétérogénéité spatiale des extrêmes dans la région. Étant donné que le réseau pluviométrique ne permet pas de détecter les propriétés d'invariance d'échelle spatiale des champs de pluie, nous avons adopté une méthode semi-empirique pour modéliser des intensités de pluie intégrés sur des surfaces données (pluie surfacique) sur la base du concept de la mise en échelle dynamique (" dynamic scaling "). Cette modélisation permet la construction d'un modèle régional Intensité-Durée-Fréquence-Surface. Enfin, nous avons appliqué ce modèle à la construction des diagrammes de sévérité pour trois événements marquants en région Cévennes-Vivarais, afin d'identifier les échelles spatio-temporelles critiques pour chaque événement. Grâce aux diagrammes de sévérité, nous avons pu évaluer, pour ces mêmes événements, la performance d'un modèle météorologique de méso-échelle.

National audience; This contribution aims at discussing the use of geostatistics for the interpretation of the spatial surface distribution of archaeological artefacts. The experience was carried out with the artefacts collected in Mougon (Crouzilles, Indre-et-Loire, France) for the ACI TTT project of the French Ministry of Research. The initial purpose of the study was to distinguish the concentrations of artefacts indicating the presence of buried archaeological remains from a random spatial distribution of artefacts due to manuring and post-depositional processes. After all the artefacts were sorted out, counted and recorded, a geostatistical analysis has been performed to interpret the spatial distribution of the surface artefacts : ordinary kriging and conditional simulation were used. The use of geostatistics allowed a precise delimitation of archaeological features. It also revealed the influence of post-depositional processes on the spatial distribution of artefacts. Furthermore, this experiment led us to re-estimate the relevance of the units we used to collect and represent the survey data.; Cette contribution pose la question de l’utilisation de la géostatistique pour l’interprétation de la répartition des artefacts recueillis en prospection archéologique. L’expérience a été réalisée à partir des données issues des prospections réalisées à Mougon (commune de Crouzilles, Indre-et-Loire, France) dans le cadre d’un projet retenu par l’Action Concertée Incitative « Terrain, Technique, Théorie » du ministère de la recherche. Après le tri, le comptage et l’enregistrement informatique du mobilier par catégories chronologiques et fonctionnelles, les artefacts collectés en surface ont fait l’objet d’un traitement géostatistique destiné à faciliter la lecture et l’interprétation de leur répartition : la distribution des artefacts a été étudiée au moyen des méthodes géostatistiques de krigeage ordinaire et de la simulation conditionnelle. L’exploitation des données de surface par le biais de la géostatistique a permis, d’une part, de circonscrire précisément l’emplacement des structures archéologiques potentielles et d’autre part, de révéler l’importance des processus post-dépositionnels dans la redistribution des artefacts en surface. At the end of process equipment dismantling, the complete decontamination of nuc-lear facilities requires the radiological assessment of residual activity levels of the building struc-tures (waste zoning). From this point of view, the set up of an appropriate evaluation methodology is of prime importance. The developed radiological characterization is divided into three steps: historical and functional analysis, radiation mapping and in-depth investigations. Combined with relevant data analysis and processing tools, this methodology aims at optimizing the investigation costs and the radiological waste volumes. In a former CEA nuclear facility, a substantial radiation survey was performed at the beginning of the thesis in order to try and test the methodology. The relevance of geostatistics was also illu-strated: exploratory data analysis, spatial structure analysis through the variogram, mapping, risk analysis results, isofactorial modeling to take the structuring of extreme values into account. Destructive concrete samples are then integrated to complete the characterization in addition to radiation data through the geostatistical multivariate approach. Finally, waste segregation results from the risk of exceeding given radiological thresholds. An inventory of the spatial structures of radiological contaminations in nuclear facilities is provided within the geostatistical framework. It leads to sampling recommendations in order to improve the overall characterization strategy and optimize the investigation costs.; Les enjeux industriels et financiers associés au démantèlement des installations nucléaires sont considérables. Après l'enlèvement des procédés et des matières nucléaires, les bâtiments font l'objet d'un assainissement complet des structures de génie civil. Pour cela, un état radiologique initial doit être réalisé pour définir le zonage déchet opérationnel. La méthodologie développée repose sur un séquençage des étapes d'investigation : analyse historique et fonctionnelle, cartographie surfacique puis investigations en profondeur. Cette méthodologie, associée à des outils d'analyse et de traitement des données, permet d'optimiser les coûts d'investigation et les volumes de déchets produits. Une campagne de mesures surfaciques, menée dans une installation nucléaire du CEA au début de la thèse, a permis d'éprouver la méthodologie proposée et d'exploiter la pertinence du traite-ment des données par géostatistique : analyse exploratoire et variographique, cartographies d'estimation, analyses de risque, comparaison de modèles isofactoriels pour modéliser les distri-butions statistiques très contrastées et la structuration des valeurs extrêmes. Des prélèvements destructifs viennent compléter les différentes cartographies surfaciques et sont intégrés grâce au traitement multivariable. La catégorisation des déchets découle finalement du risque de dépassement de seuils radiologiques. L'approche géostatistique permet également de dresser un inventaire des structures spatiales des contaminations radiologiques dans les installations nucléaires. Des recommandations d'échantillonnage sont ainsi produites afin de rationnaliser la stratégie d'investigation et d'en optimiser les coûts.

This requires the construction of a reservoir model that integrates all available conceptual knowledge and quantitative data. Through the thesis of Sandra Jenni defended in January 2005, a methodology able to integrate both static and dynamic data has been proposed. The topic of the present thesis is the continuation of the previously described work. First, the geometry of the seismic fault network is characterized using fractal methods and subseismic faults are generated using a stochastic algorithm. The geometry of this discrete fracture network can be modified in order to modify the hydrodynamic behaviour of the reservoir model. An optimization algorithm is used to modify the susbseismic fault positions, leading to the history matching of the reservoir model. Fractal properties are preserved during the deformation process. The river water quality is characterized either from measurement networks with a few sites by edge or thanks to physics-based models that simulate physical processes approximately. This thesis explore the solutions that geostatistics offer to improve the estimation of concentrations along a river network based on measurements, and then to combine these measurements with the physics-based simulation. A variographic model valid on a tree was developed by C. Bernard-Michel (2006), but its inference was made impossible by the too small account of measurement sites. To remedy this lack of data, the idea consists in considering the physics-based model ProSe (Even et al, 1998, 2004, Flipo et al, 2004) as a replica of reality. For nitrates and dissolved oxygen, the ProSe model outputs are first compared to different measurement sets, revealing discordances. Upstream boundary conditions combining these different kinds of measurement are reconstituted by co-kriging, what improve the agreement between ProSe outputs and measurements. Besides, the joint modelling of variograms of Prose outputs and measurements turns out to be an efficient tool for diagnosing the physics-based model imperfections. Admitted as a replica of reality, the ProSe simulation is then used to test the hypotheses of the geostatistical modelling and to perform its inference. Different geostatistical models for the estimation of concentrations based on measurements are then compared. International audience; Complex spatial models are developed to support decision making in various fields of environmental management. These models use environmental data that is spatially distributed, including 2D fields derived from sampled data. These spatial inputs are always partly uncertain. In order to provide confidence in these models, it is necessary to assess the impact of all input uncertainties. Performing sensitivity analysis (SA) can achieve this goal: SA techniques will allow the robustness of the model predictions to be checked and the input factors that account for most of the model output variability to be identied. The variance-based Sobol' approach is one of the few sensitivity analysis techniques that is suitable for complex models with spatially distributed inputs, non-linear effects and interactions between factors. It is based on a wide random exploration of the uncertainty space of the input factors,through Monte-Carlo sampling schemes. Spatially distributed inputs can be included in the analysis by associating randomly generated map realizations to scalar values. This allows complex description of spatial uncertainty to be applied. Spatial uncertainty on continuous fields, such as land elevation or rainfall elds, can come from diverse sources: measurement errors in data acquisition, interpolation errors, etc. To simulate this uncertainty, geostatistical unconditional or conditional simulations can be used to generate random realizations of the continuous 2D elds used as model inputs. Yet spatial Sobol' methods need a large number of model runs to compute sensitivity indices. With time consuming models, it is necessary to get the most accurate sensitivity indices with the fewest model runs. One way to reach better efficiency in the computation of sensitivity indices is by using a better sampling design in the space of the input factors. This issue has been widely discussed in the case of models with scalar inputs. Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) has been documented as an efficient option, along with other sampling schemes (quasi-random, winding stairs). Yet, in the case of sensitivity analysis of models with spatial inputs, the influence of the sampling scheme used to generate geostatistical simulations has not, up to now, been discussed. Some techniques have been developed to apply LHS to sample geostatistical simulations (e.g. Pebsema and Heuvelink, 1999 and Xu, 2005). Using a spatial sampling technique such as these may lead to better efficiency in the computation of sensitivity indices on spatial models. The aim of this paper is to compare the accuracy and bias of Sobol sensitivity indices on a model with continuous 2D spatial inputs, with a) different sampling designs of geostatistical simulations for spatial model inputs (simple random sampling, Latin hypercube sampling), b) increasing sample size.

Nowadays spatial distribution of tropical tuna fished by the French purse-seiners in the Indian Ocean is represented with catch and effort data from logbooks. However, these data provided only one position per day and the number of fishing sets during each day: the prospected areas without any set, synonym of absence of tuna aggregations, were not known. These areas are essential to map the tuna abundances. The French purse-seiners fleet is equipped with Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS). Trajectories obtained by the VMS were used to deduce vessels behaviour, and thus, presence (fishing) and absence (non fishing) of tuna aggregations. The objective is thus to estimate the vessel activity from its trajectory. The application of a state-space model allowed to distinguish "cruising", "tracking", "stopping", and "fishing" activities. For the majority of surveys (except those with an observer), the real activity of the vessel was not known (latent variable), which justified the modelling with a Hidden Markov model. The model was run in a Bayesian framework including prior knowledge on some parameters (speed, turning angle and transition matrix). This model was calibrated and validated thanks to observers data on 10% of the fleet. The error rate was of 10% for VMS positions data recorded every hour. After the estimation of the states, the purse-seiners activities (cruising/tracking/stop/fishing) allowed to (1) improve spatial and temporal indices of the effort of French purse-seiners, and (2) study the spatial structure of tuna presence areas (indicators variograms), and to deduce maps of tuna presence/potential presence/absence by indicators cokriging, that can be interpreted as an abundance proxy.; Actuellement, la distribution spatiale des thons tropicaux pêchés par les senneurs français dans l'Océan Indien est représentée à partir des données de captures et d'effort issues des livres de bord. Or ces données ne comportent qu'une position par jour et le nombre de calées réalisées pendant cette journée : l'ensemble des zones prospectées sans action de pêche, synonyme d'absence d'agrégations de thon n'est pas connu. Ces zones seraient pourtant utiles à la cartographie des abondances. Cette flottille étant équipée de systèmes VMS (Vessel Monitoring Systems), les trajectoires données par les VMS sont utilisées pour déduire du comportement des navires, les zones de présence (pêche) et d'absence (non pêche) d'agrégations de thonidés. L'objectif est donc d'estimer l'activité d'un navire à partir de sa trajectoire. L'application d'un modèle markovien permet de distinguer les activités de route, de recherche, et d'arrêt, et de pêche. Pour la majorité des sorties en mer (exceptées celles où un observateur est à bord), l'activité réelle du navire n'est pas connue (variable latente), ce qui justifie l'approche par chaînes de Markov à états cachés. Le modèle a été développé dans un contexte bayésien incluant des priors sur certains des paramètres (vitesses, angles de changement de cap et matrice de transition). Il a été calibré et validé grâce aux données collectées par des observateurs embarqués sur 10% de la flottille. Le taux d'erreur est de 10% pour des positions VMS enregistrées toutes les heures. Une fois estimée, l'activité des senneurs en chaque point de leur trajectoire a permis (1) d'obtenir des indicateurs spatiaux et temporels de l'effort de la flottille de senneurs français, et (2) d'étudier la structure spatiale des zones de présence de bancs de thons (variogrammes d'indicatrices) et d'en déduire, par cokrigeage d'indicatrices, des cartes de présence/présence potentielle/absence de thon capturable, pouvant être interprétées comme indices d'abondance de thon.

International audience; The use by geographers of local indicators of spatial autocorrelation has spread since 1995. Generally treated from a theoretical point of view, applications are still rare. However, the tools are now available to measure the spatial dimension of social phenomena. This paper proposes retracing the move from global to local indicators, not from a formal mathematical point of view, but emphasising a geographical reading of the results produced and what they say about spatial patterns. The aim here is to examine the potential and the limitations of these tools, and to encourage their use for data analysis in geography.; Depuis 1995, les indices locaux permettant d'estimer l'autocorrélation spatiale se sont répandus en géographie. Souvent envisagées de façon théorique, les applications sont encore trop peu nombreuses. Pourtant, les outils sont aujourd'hui disponibles pour mesurer les structures spatiales. L'article propose de revenir sur le passage d'indices globaux à des indices locaux, en envisageant non pas la dimension mathématique formelle, mais en insistant sur la lecture que l'on peut faire des résultats produits et ce qu'ils nous apprennent des formes spatiales. L'objectif est de souligner les potentiels et les limites de ces outils, mais aussi d'inciter à une utilisation plus systématique de ceux-ci dans l'analyse de données en géographie.

[Departement_IRSTEA]Territoires [TR1_IRSTEA]SYNERGIE; International audience; In this paper, methods that aim to simulate spatial distributions of Land Management Practices (LMP) at high spatial resolution and over large extents as required by spatially distributed environmental modelling are presented. The principle of theses methods, in the scope of geostatistical conditional simulation methods, is to simulate a set of equally probable spatial patterns that all respect the knowledge that have been collected on the landscape features, i.e; spatial laws and data (descriptive approach); and/or the driven factors of the studied LMP (factorial approach). The differences between the simulated spatial patterns can be seen as a representation of the spatial uncertainties. To illustrate these methods, two examples of simulations of spatial patterns of LMP are presented. They involved specific methodological developments and can be considered as representative of descriptive and factorial mapping approaches respectively: i) the simulation of ditch networks reconstructed from an incomplete set of reaches observed by remote sensing and ii) the spatial simulation of weed control practices at plot scale from a set of driven and correlated factors.

La réalisation d'une base de données de pluies mensuelles pour l'Afrique est une valorisation par le Laboratoire HydroSciences Montpellier-HSM d'un fond de données pluviométriques africaines, hérité entre autres de l'Orstom, et de son expérience en gestion de bases de données hydroclimatiques en zone intertropicale. Les grilles de données créées permettent de diffuser des données pluviométriques élaborées au demi-degré carré, utiles à la recherche en Afrique, tout en respectant la confidentialité des données brutes stationnelles qui restent la propriété des services nationaux. Les données brutes font l'objet d'une série de critiques approfondies pour chaque poste pour corriger ou éliminer les informations fausses ou douteuses. Ce travail réponds à trois objectifs : i) proposer en ligne un inventaire des postes pluviométriques existants pour tous les pays ; ii) générer des séries de données de pluies homogènes appelées « séries de référence » ; iii) construire des grilles de pluies mensuelles au demi-degré carré pour le continent africain sur la période 1900-2000, proposées en accès libre sur le site SIEREM : http://www.hydrosciences.fr/sierem. The regulation of the cephalopod fishery off Morocco is mainly focused on catch limitation of the target specie, octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Its exploitable biomass is estimated by direct assessments through scientific surveys. These have to (i) provide a good estimator - unbiased and accurate – of the global abundance with its estimation variance and stock distribution maps, (ii) monitor the spatio-temporal dynamic of the octopus, whose knowledge is essential for management. To achieve this: - The spatial features of the octopus densities are described and the conditions of stationarity are analyzed on the basis of historical data. - Methods for global estimation - transitive and intrinsic - are applied taking into account the data characteristics, including non-stationarity on the probabilistic intrinsic approach and the uncontrolled sampling on the deterministic transitive approach. - The spatial pattern of the octopus is described using geostatistical indicators. It is characterized by a widespread distribution of the spawning stock over the continental shelf and a coastal recruitment success. Some important implications for management are discussed. Finally, this work is seen within larger context of the cephalopod fishery management and the new fishing policy. The regulation of the cephalopod fishery off Morocco is mainly focused on catch limitation of the target specie, octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Its exploitable biomass is estimated by direct assessments through scientific surveys. These have to (i) provide a good estimator - unbiased and accurate – of the global abundance with its estimation variance and stock distribution maps, (ii) monitor the spatio-temporal dynamic of the octopus, whose knowledge is essential for management. National audience; On présente l'analyse géostatistique de la teneur en eau de surface (0-6 cm de profondeur) collectée les 12 et 13 Mars 2009, sur une quinzaine de parcelles de sol nu d'un petit bassin péri-urbain proche de Lyon. Les mesures in situ, ont été collectées à deux échelles : une échelle locale sur des croix de longueur 20m et un pas d'espace de 1m et une échelle parcellaire sur 3 transects avec un pas de 20m environ. Les résultats montrent une corrélation de quelques m à échelle fine et de 20 à 50m à l'échelle de la parcelle. Après correction du bruit, calibration radiométrique et correction des effets géométriques et de pente, la comparaison des moyennes par parcelles issues de l'image radar TerraSAR-X et des mesures in situ est satisfaisante (R2=0.43) mais l'analyse intra-parcellaire reste à affiner. / This paper presents the geostatistical analysis of surface soil water content (0-6 cm depth), collected on March 12-13 2009, in about 15 bare soil fields located in a small suburban catchment close to Lyon. In situ data were sampled at two scales : a local scale on 20m-long crosses with a space step of about 1m; a field scale, with 3 transects and a space scale of about 20m. The results show a correlation of a few meters at the local scale and of about 20-50m at the field scale. After correction of the noise, radiometric calibration, geometric and slope effect correction, the comparison of the field averages derived from the TerraSAR-X image and of in situ data is satisfactory (R2=0.43), but the intra-field variability should be studied in more details.

The main objective of this work is to improve our understanding of the eco-ethological processes that govern marine resources associated with coastal artificial habitats. To understand this system, we have first presented a synthesis of the aggregation processes of fish found in association with artificial habitats.We described the reasoning approach shared by the two main types of fishery tools that are the Artificial Reefs and Fish Aggregation Device (FAD). Our Work was then focused on the analysis of fish distribution in a network of coastal FADs, moored in St. Paul's bay. This analysis, based on acoustic surveys, has shown that the intensity of association varied depending on the fish community (benthic or pelagic), the diel period and the development stage of the fish (adult or juvenile). In particular, it has been pointed out that whatever the fish community the aggregations of juveniles were more extensive than the adults.We then described the tagging experiments performed on two representative species: the Selar crumenophthalmus (pelagic) and Lutjanus kasmira (benthic). The results of these experiments have allowed specifying the fish dependence on FAD.Concerning the associative behaviour of adult pelagic fish, the analyses have confirmed the meeting point hypothesis, suggesting that fish used the FADs to form larger schools. This reinforces the idea that these fish optimize their survival by focusing on social interaction with conspecific.The study of the benthic species has shown a strong association of the fish to the structures and has validated the hypothesis of an increasing trophic activity by night out of the FAD.From these observations, an estimate of the entire FAD network influence has been performed and then input, firstly into the geostatistical analysis of the biomass distribution in the bay, and secondly into the distribution analysis of the biomass as influenced or not by the FAD. This work showed a significant linear relationship between FAD associated and free biomass.We then explored the contribution of the association behaviour and the environmental factors (turbidity and bottom slope), integrating both into a generalized additive model. This study showed that the FAD effect is not always a prior factor influencing the biomass in the bay. We, therefore, hypothesized that the FAD is a habitat that would enrich the bay by providing new conditions for fish in search of optimal living conditions for their survival or comfort. In general, it will be important to deepen the impact of the two major factors influencing the ecological dynamics of aggregation around FADs namely trophic conditions and predation. In prospect, we could apply our methodology on drifting FADs and also use our results for improvement and restoration of natural habitats.; L'objectif général de ce travail est d'améliorer notre compréhension des processus éco-éthologiques qui gouvernent les ressources marines côtières associées à des habitats artificiels. Afin d'appréhender ce système, nous avons tout d'abord présenté une synthèse du fonctionnement écologique des agrégations de poissons trouvées en association avec les habitats artificiels. Nous avons notamment posé la base commune de fonctionnement des deux grands types d'outils d'aide à la pêche que sont les Récifs Artificiels et les Dispositifs de Concentration de Poissons (DCP). Notre travail s'est ensuite focalisé sur l'analyse de la répartition des poissons dans un réseau de DCP côtiers, immergés dans la baie de Saint-Paul. Cette analyse basée sur des campagnes de prospection acoustique, a permis de montrer que l'intensité de la relation d'association variait en fonction de la communauté de poissons considérée (démersale ou pélagique), des différentes phases du nycthémère et du stade de développement des individus (adulte ou juvénile). En particulier, il a été montré que les agrégations des juvéniles étaient plus étendues que les agrégations d'adultes et ce quelle que soit la communauté de poissons étudiée. Nous avons ensuite présenté les expériences de marquage acoustique effectuées sur les deux espèces représentatives des deux communautés : le Selar crumenophthalmus (espèce pélagique) et le Lutjanus kasmira (espèce démersale). Les résultats de ces expériences ont permis de spécifier le degré de dépendance aux DCP des espèces sélectionnées. En ce qui concerne le comportement d'association des poissons pélagiques adultes, l'étude détaillée des données a permis de confirmer l'hypothèse du point de rencontre suggérant que les poissons utilisaient le DCP pour se retrouver et pour former des bancs plus gros.L'étude de l'espèce démersale a permis de montrer la forte association des poissons aux structures et de valider l'hypothèse d'une augmentation de l'activité trophique nocturne hors des structures. A partir de ces résultats, une estimation de l'influence de l'intégralité du réseau de DCP a été effectuée et intégrée d'une part, à l'analyse Géostatistique de la répartition des biomasses dans la baie de Saint-Paul et d'autre part, à l'étude de la répartition des biomasses selon les zones sous influence ou hors d'influence des structures. Les résultats sont discutés et montrent notamment qu'il existe une relation linéaire significative entre les biomasses associées et libres.Nous avons ensuite exploré les parts respectives des effets liés au comportement d'association et aux facteurs abiotiques mesurés : la turbidité et la pente du fond (qui intègre l'effet du courant et de la houle), en intégrant ces facteurs dans un modèle additif généralisé. Cette étude a montré que l'effet DCP n'est pas systématiquement le facteur influençant le plus la répartition des biomasses dans la baie. Nous avons donc émis l'hypothèse que le DCP est un habitat qui permettrait d'enrichir l'habitat naturel en offrant des nouvelles conditions à des poissons en quête de conditions de vie optimales pour leur survie ou leur confort. Ainsi, concernant les poissons pélagiques, les possibilités supplémentaires qu'apportent les DCP, à la fois de rencontre des congénères mais aussi de protection vis-à-vis des prédateurs, conduiraient les poissons à s'associer à ces structures. Néanmoins, cette hypothèse reste à vérifier, tout autant que celle supposant que le processus amenant les poissons à quitter les DCP pour rejoindre les zones de forte pente serait lié aux conditions trophiques plus avantageuses sur ces zones que sous les DCP. De façon générale, il sera important d'approfondir l'effet des deux principaux facteurs écologiques influençant la dynamique d'agrégation autour des DCP à savoir les conditions trophiques et la prédation car tous deux sont susceptibles d'influencer le comportement d'association. Les perspectives de ce travail sont ainsi envisagées tant sur la possibilité de transposer notre méthodologie aux structures dérivantes que sur l'utilisation des DCP pour l'amélioration et la restauration des habitats naturels.

The Katiola region, located in central Côte d'Ivoire, suffers climatic variations. This region has an area of 9,452 km². It is straddling two watersheds, the Bandama basin to the West, and the Comoé basin to the East. Despite the lack of water resources, this area is experiencing an intense mobilization and use of water: sugar stores in the localities of Tafiré, paddy fields and irrigated pastoral activities across the department. This work aims to locate potential sites for drilling wells using eostatistics and remote sensing. An understanding of the productivity of geologic formations by studying the records of boreholes and remote sensing can provide a better understanding of the aquifers in these formations. The objective of this study is also to establish benchmarks to serve as management tools, monitoring and even aid in decision making. The goal is also to make a maximum of successful drillings, and establish a link between these informations (spacing, length, connectivity) and groundwater movements. This study presents the potential of the DEM SRTM images. Their processing llowed us to make a fairly detailed mapping of the boundaries of catchments, drainage network, and establish the order of watercourses according to the Strahler classification. The calculation of the Topographic Index Humidity shows the correlation between topography, soil and soil quality. Despite the size of our study area, it was possible to find a correlation between the topographic indices, the distribution of fields and soil characteristics. These results enabled us improving soil classification and occupation from LANDSAT imagery. Using LANDSAT images, we also monitored the eutrophisation and isappearance of surficial water bodies in the department. We could follow the order of appearance of plants on the water, until the total disappearance of the watercourse; La région de Katiola, située au centre de la Côte d’Ivoire est affectée par des variations climatiques. Cette région d’une superficie de 9452 kilomètres est à cheval sur deux bassins versants, à l’ouest le bassin du Bandama et à l’est le bassin du Comoé. Malgré le manque des ressources en eau, cette zone connaît une intense activité de mobilisation et d’utilisation des eaux : périmètres sucriers dans les localités de Tafiré, les parcelles de riz irriguées et activités pastorales à travers le département. Ce travail consiste à localiser les sites potentiels des puits et forages à l’aide de la géostatistique et de la télédétection. Des outils tel que les sondes géophysiques, permettent une compréhension des caractéristiques hydrogéologiques des formations. Une compréhension de la productivité des formations géologiques par l'étude des relevés de forages et de la télédétection peut permettre une meilleure compréhension des aquifères de ces formations. L’objectif de cette étude est de mettre en place des valeurs de référence devant servir comme outils de gestion, de surveillance et voire même d’aide à la prise de décision. Egalement rentabiliser le coût des forages en proposant le maximum d’ouvrages avec beaucoup de chance de succès et établir un lien entre les formations et la circulation de l'eau souterraine (espacement, longueur, connectivité). Cette étude nous a présenté les potentialités que regorgent les images SRTM. Leur traitement nous a permis de faire une cartographie assez détaillée des limites de bassin versant, du réseau hydrographique, et d’établir l’ordre des cours d’eau selon Strahler. Le calcul de l’Index Topographique d’Humidité montre bien la corrélation entre la topographie, les sols et la qualité des sols. Malgré l’étendue de notre zone d’étude, il a été possible de trouver une corrélation entre les indices topographiques, la répartition des champs et les caractéristiques du sol. Ces résultats nous ont permis d’avoir une nette amélioration de la classification des sols et l’occupation à partir d’image LANDSAT. Les images LANDSAT, nous ont également permis de suivre le phénomène d’eutrophisation et de disparition des plans d’eau de surface dont souffre le département. Nous avons pu établir l’ordre d’apparition des végétaux sur les plans d’eau, ceci jusqu'à la disparition totale du cours d’eau

After finding out a potential oil field, development decisions are based on uncertain representations of the reservoir. Indeed, its characterisation uses numerical, spatial models of the reservoir. However, if they are representative of subsoil heterogeneities, the uncertainty linked to subsoil complexity remain. Usually, uncertainty is supposed to be assessed using many equiprobable models, which represent the heterogeneities expected into the reservoir. Nevertheless, those alternative images of the underground correspond to multiple realizations of a given and a single stochastic model. Those methods ignore the uncertainty related to the choice of the underlying probabilistic model. This work aims at improving that kind of uncertainty assessment when modelling petroleum reservoir. It conveys the doubt linked with our subsoil properties understanding on probabilistic models, and proposes to integrate it on them. This thesis first defines uncertainty in the context of oil industry modelling, particularly on 3D geological models comprising several litho-types or facies. To build them, we need, before any simulations, to estimate for every point in the space the probability of occurring for each facies : this is the proportions cube. Even thought those probabilities are often poorly known, they are frozen while using current methods of uncertainty assessment. So, the impact of an uncertain geological scenario on the definition of a proportion cube is forgotten. Two methods based on stochastic simulations of alternative, equiprobable proportion cubes have been developed to sample the complete geological uncertainty space. The first one is closely linked to geology. It integrates directly uncertainty related to the parameters composing the geological scenario. Based on a multi-realisation approach, it describes its implementation on every parameters of geological scenario from information at wells to maps or global hypothesis at reservoir scale resolution. A Monte Carlo approach samples the components of the sedimentary scheme. Each drawing enables to build a proportion cube using modelling tools which integrates more or less explicitly parameters of geological scenario. That methodology is illustrated and applied to an modelling process which is used to model marine carbonate deposits. The second method appears to be more geostatistics focussing on proportion cubes. It rather aims at reconcile distinct eventual sedimentary models. In the meshed model symbolising the reservoir, it assesses the probabilistic law of facies proportion in each cells – they are supposed to follow Dirichlet's probabilistic law. That assessment is done from some models inferred from different geological scenarios. Facies proportions are sequentially simulated, cell after cell, introducing a spatial correlation model (variogram), which could be deterministic as probabilistic. Various practical cases, comprising synthetic reservoirs or real field, illustrates and specifies the different steps of the proposed method., Après sa découverte, les choix relatifs au développement d'un gisement se prennent sur la base de représentations incertaines du champ. En effet, sa caractérisation utilise des modèles numériques spatiaux porteurs de l'incertitude liée à la complexité du milieu souterrain. D'ordinaire, les méthodes de simulations stochastiques, qui génèrent des modèles équiprobables du sous-sol, sont supposées les quantifier. Néanmoins, ces images alternatives du champ renvoient à des tirages au sein d'un modèle probabiliste unique. Elles oublient l'incertitude relative au choix du modèle probabiliste sous-jacent, et tendent à la sous-estimer. Ce travail de recherche vise à améliorer la quantification de cette incertitude. Elle retranscrit la part de doute relative à la compréhension des propriétés du milieu sur les modèles probabilistes, et propose de l'intégrer à ce niveau. Cette thèse précise d'abord la notion d'incertitude en modélisation pétrolière, en particulier sur les modèles géologiques 3D comprenant différents faciès. Leur construction demande au préalable de définir en tout point de l'espace leur probabilité d'existence : c'est le cube de proportions. Généralement, bien que ces probabilités soient peu connues, les méthodes actuelles d'évaluation de l'incertitude sédimentaire les gardent figées. De fait, elles oublient le caractère incertain du scénario géologique et son impact sur le cube de proportions. Deux méthodes stochastiques de simulation ont été développées afin de générer des modèles équiprobables en termes de cubes de proportions. Elles intègrent la variabilité liée aux proportions de faciès, et explorent dans son ensemble un tel domaine d'incertitude. La première reste relativement attachée à la géologie. Elle intègre directement l'incertitude liée aux paramètres qui composent le scénario géologique. Elle décrit sa mise en oeuvre sur les divers paramètres du scénario géologique, qu'ils prennent la forme de signaux aux puits, de cartes ou d'hypothèses plus globales à l'échelle du réservoir. Une démarche de type Monte-Carlo échantillonne les composantes du schéma sédimentaire. Chaque tirage permet de construire un cube de proportions par l'intermédiaire d'un géomodeleur qui intègre de façon plus ou moins explicite les paramètres du scénario géologique. La méthodologie est illustrée et appliquée à un processus inédit de modélisation des dépôts carbonatés en milieu marin. La seconde revêt un caractère plus géostatistique en se concentrant davantage sur le cube de proportions. Elle vise plutôt à réconcilier les différents modèles sédimentaires possibles. Dans le modèle maillé de réservoir, elle estime la loi de distribution des proportions de faciès cellule par cellule - supposées suivrent une loi de Dirichlet, à partir de quelques modèles, construits sur la base de scénarios géologiques distincts. Elle simule alors les proportions de façon séquentielle, maille après maille, en introduisant une corrélation spatiale (variogramme) qui peut être déterministe ou probabiliste. Divers cas pratiques, composés de réservoirs synthétiques ou de champs réels, illustrent et précisent les différentes étapes de la méthode proposée.

A partir de ces résultats, une estimation de l'influence de l'intégralité du réseau de DCP a été effectuée et intégrée d'une part, à l'analyse Géostatistique de la répartition des biomasses dans la baie de Saint-Paul et d'autre part, à l'étude de la répartition des biomasses selon les zones sous influence ou hors d'influence des structures. Les résultats sont discutés et montrent notamment qu'il existe une relation linéaire significative entre les biomasses associées et libres.Nous avons ensuite exploré les parts respectives des effets liés au comportement d'association et aux facteurs abiotiques mesurés : la turbidité et la pente du fond (qui intègre l'effet du courant et de la houle), en intégrant ces facteurs dans un modèle additif généralisé. Cette étude a montré que l'effet DCP n'est pas systématiquement le facteur influençant le plus la répartition des biomasses dans la baie. Nous avons donc émis l'hypothèse que le DCP est un habitat qui permettrait d'enrichir l'habitat naturel en offrant des nouvelles conditions à des poissons en quête de conditions de vie optimales pour leur survie ou leur confort. Ainsi, concernant les poissons pélagiques, les possibilités supplémentaires qu'apportent les DCP, à la fois de rencontre des congénères mais aussi de protection vis-à-vis des prédateurs, conduiraient les poissons à s'associer à ces structures. Néanmoins, cette hypothèse reste à vérifier, tout autant que celle supposant que le processus amenant les poissons à quitter les DCP pour rejoindre les zones de forte pente serait lié aux conditions trophiques plus avantageuses sur ces zones que sous les DCP. De façon générale, il sera important d'approfondir l'effet des deux principaux facteurs écologiques influençant la dynamique d'agrégation autour des DCP à savoir les conditions trophiques et la prédation car tous deux sont susceptibles d'influencer le comportement d'association. Les perspectives de ce travail sont ainsi envisagées tant sur la possibilité de transposer notre méthodologie aux structures dérivantes que sur l'utilisation des DCP pour l'amélioration et la restauration des habitats naturels.
