RECOMMENDER systems ,ARTIFICIAL intelligence ,DIGITAL libraries ,USER experience - Abstract
Recommender systems are widely used in various fields, such as e-commerce, entertainment, and education, to provide personalized recommendations to users based on their preferences and/or behavior. Τhis paper presents a novel approach to providing customized recommendations with the use of user-centric artificial intelligence. In greater detail, we introduce an enhanced collaborative filtering (CF) approach in order to develop hybrid recommender systems that personalize search results for users. The proposed CF enhancement incorporates user actions beyond explicit ratings to collect data and alleviate the issue of sparse data, resulting in high-quality recommendations. As a testbed for our research, a web-based digital library, incorporating the proposed algorithm, has been developed. Examples of operation of the use of the system are presented using cognitive walkthrough inspection, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the approach in producing personalized recommendations and improving user experience. Thus, the hybrid recommender system, which is incorporated in the digital library, has been evaluated, yielding promising results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Linking quality information within an electronic medical record or patient electronic record is not a new concept to health sciences librarians. Over time LATCH (Literature Attached to the Chart), InfoButtons, Clinical-e, Digital Libraries, Ask-A-Librarian, and MyChart information links have brought access by librarians to information resources within the electronic and patient health records. Bringing information to the fingertips of the patient care team members and patients and their families builds health literacy. It offers the opportunity to learn and make informed decisions about diagnostic tests, diseases and conditions, drugs and other therapies. This column highlights these electronic enhancements and the partnerships the health science librarians had with IS departments to bring these to fruition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper compared and contrasted the open access (OA) self-archiving policies of different organizations registered in OpenDOAR, ROAR and ROARMAP databases. It highlights and discusses key policies along with several issues to suggest an institute-specific model policy framework in the line of recommendations and best practises of IDRs (Institutional Digital Repositories) listed in global tertiary sources in green open access ROARMAP, OpenDOAR and ROAR. This paper focuses on IDR policy issues concerning rights, access, and user interfaces. A total of 66 repositories have been selected after overlap checking and based on the selection parameters mentioned in the methodology section. It has been discovered that most IDRs lack policies in the four areas mentioned. Several policy issues are missing, and some of the policy issues used by these repositories are still being developed and improved. Based on the study, some suggestions for the development of IDR policies have been made. It has implications for administrators, funding agencies, policymakers, and professional librarians in developing repository policies of their own. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this research was to redesigning the user interface architecture of the digital library website of the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) using card-sorting method in order to improve the structure and the desired retrieval. The present study is an applied research. To this end a multifaceted approach and various techniques such as interviewing, think-aloud protocol and card-sorting were used to redesign the user interface architecture of the digital library website of the NLAI. EXCEL and VISIO software were used to analyze the data, and Sort Optimal tool was used to analyze the data obtained from card-sorting. The results were read in the form of similarity matrix and dendrogram algorithm. The statistical population in this study included users of the digital library website of the NLAI, who were selected in two groups of novice users (clients) and advanced users (librarians). In order to validate the qualitative findings, the researcher triangulation method was used. Findings of the research, the model and the results obtained from Card Sorting test, were provided to 7 experts, researchers and professors of library and information science who had necessary experience, for evaluation to give their expert opinion in the field of data analysis. The similarity matrix findings showed that users grouped elements such as “Ask Us”, “Legal Considerations”, “Resource Registration”, “Resource Donation”, and “Technical Support” and so on together. The findings of the Standardization Network also confirmed that users have included 10 times “Ask Us”, 17 times “Resource Registration” and 6 times “Technical Support” in the menu of electronic services. Dendrogram findings also showed that a number of contributors expect to be able to select “source type” if necessary next to the search box, rather than independently reviewing individual digital resources. Cart sorting process analysis showed that in addition to predefined categories, some new categories were suggested. These included “links to other digital libraries”, “shared databases” and the “FAQ” category. The data and performance of users in this study showed that the current user interface of the digital library website is not user-friendly and users cannot quickly get what they are looking for. The card-sorting process generally acknowledged inconsistencies in how users perceived the labeling and organization of digital library website content. Interviews and think-aloud protocols with users also confirmed that the language used to name menues and information elements is currently not simple and user-friendly. User categories in the card-sorting process for designing the user interface architecture also showed that there are elements in the website that users do not need, and conversely, there are important elements that are not included in the website. In the simulated information architecture, based on the findings of the interview and the participation of users in the Card Sorting process, an attempt was made to design the proposed user interface somewhat similar to other user interfaces (OPAC and Rasa software). In the proposed model, while paying attention to the demands and expectations of users, the simplicity of the pages, the most important point has been observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As textually published information is increasing in digital libraries, efficient retrieval methods are required. Textual documents in a digital library are available in various structures and contents. It is possible to represent these documents with hierarchical levels of granularity when these are organized in XML structure to improve precision by focused retrieval. By this means, contextual elements of each document can be retrieved from a known structure. One solution for retrieving these elements is clustering from a combination of Content and Structural similarities. To achieve this, a novel two-level clustering framework based on Content and Structure is proposed. The framework decomposes a document into meaningful structural units and analyzes all its rich text in its own structure. The quality of the proposed framework was experimented on a heterogeneous XML document collection, having varieties of data sources, structures, and content, be represented as a sample of a real digital library. This collection was made with capabilities to test all of our objectives. The clustering results were evaluated by the Entropy criterion. Finally, the Content and Structure clustering was compared with the usual clustering based on the Content Only to prove the efficacy of considering structural features against the existing Content Only methods in the retrieval process. The total Entropy results of the two-level Content and Structural clustering are almost twice better than the Content Only clustering approach. Consequently, the proposed framework has the ability to improve Information Retrieval systems from two points of view: i) considering the structural aspect of textrich documents in the retrieval process, and ii) replacing the document-level retrieval with the element-level retrieval. BACKGROUND:It is not common for people to come across a living kidney donor, let alone consider whether they would ever donate a kidney themselves while they are alive. Narrative storytelling, the sharing of first-person narratives based on lived experience, may be an important way to improve education about living donor kidney transplants (LDKTs). Developing ways to easily standardize and disseminate diverse living donor stories using digital technology could inspire more people to consider becoming living donors and reduce the kidney shortage nationally. OBJECTIVE:This paper aimed to describe the development of the Living Donation Storytelling Project, a web-based digital library of living donation narratives from multiple audiences using video capture technology. Specifically, we aimed to describe the theoretical foundation and development of the library, a protocol to capture diverse storytellers, the characteristics and experiences of participating storytellers, and the frequency with which any ethical concerns about the content being shared emerged. METHODS:This study invited kidney transplant recipients who had received LDKTs, living donors, family members, and patients seeking LDKTs to record personal stories using video capture technology by answering a series of guided prompts on their computer or smartphone and answering questions about their filming experience. The digital software automatically spliced responses to open-ended prompts, creating a seamless story available for uploading to a web-based library and posting to social media. Each story was reviewed by a transplant professional for the disclosure of protected health information (PHI), pressuring others to donate, and medical inaccuracies. Disclosures were edited. RESULTS:This study recruited diverse storytellers through social media, support groups, churches, and transplant programs. Of the 137 storytellers who completed the postsurvey, 105/137 (76.6%) were white and 99/137 (72.2%) were female. They spent 62.5 min, on average, recording their story, with a final median story length of 10 min (00:46 seconds to 32:16 min). A total of 94.8% (130/137) of storytellers were motivated by a desire to educate the public; 78.1% (107/137) were motivated to help more people become living donors; and 75.9% (104/137) were motivated to dispel myths. The ease of using the technology and telling their story varied, with the fear of being on film, emotional difficulty talking about their experiences, and some technological barriers being reported. PHI, most commonly surnames and transplant center names, was present in 62.9% (85/135) of stories and was edited out. CONCLUSIONS:With appropriate sensitivity to ensure diverse recruitment, ethical review of content, and support for storytellers, web-based storytelling platforms may be a cost-effective and convenient way to further engage patients and increase the curiosity of the public in learning more about the possibility of becoming living donors.

Awareness of users' perceptions and interpretations of the information labels of the user interface of digital library of the NLAI. The present study was an applied research with a mixed method. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire, interview, and observation. Through a exploratory method, participants were asked to spend considerable time and in-depth to examine the categories, elements, and labels used in the digital library website and to determine their understanding of the website labels in the online questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale. Then, the semi-structured interview technique was used to study users' perceptions and interpretations of the labels assigned to the elements on the website. The study population included users of the digital library of the NLAI, which was selected in two groups of novice users (clients) and advanced users (librarians) of 20 people (10 novice users and 10 advanced users). In order to validate the research results, Methodological angulation was used to increase the reliability of the research data. During this method, the researcher used several methods to collect data (using interviews with observation, exploratory study, and questionnaire), as well as all research strategies and steps with the necessary documentation at the time of data collection were recorded. Finally, after collecting the data, the researcher used the Member checking method. During this quality control process, the researcher asked the 7 participants to read the notes and the results of the data and express their opinion on the accuracy of the findings. Cronbach's alpha test (0.85) was used to ensure the reliability of the data collection tool and the possible problems of the questionnaire. SPSS software was used to analyze the research data. Content analysis and Excel software were used to analyze the interview data. The results showed that the final average of comprehensibility of labels and terms used in the website is over 50% and indicates a good understanding of the terms and labels used in the website to represent information categories, but some labels need to be changed and updated. Some terms are not very understandable from the users' point of view and need to be revised, such as: "review", "quick look", "typical classification", "source registration", "legal considerations", "main site", "texts", "Periodical" and "Collection". The friendliness and user-friendliness of the words on the website, and the ban on the use of specialized, complex, and ambiguous words were among the demands of the users. New terms and labels were suggested by users. The use of specialized library terminology on the website, intangible and abstract words and lack of sufficient explanations about labels, lack of a comprehensive guide, going into more detail, complications on the website, and inconsistency in the use of words for similar concepts are some of the problems that cause the user does not have a good browsing experience.

The report is aimed at improving the software systems of general-purpose graph editors for the needs of object search and administration of the metadata network of the electronic library. One of the trends in the development of electronic libraries is the enrichment and complication of metadata due to the content of electronic documents stored in the library. Metadata helps to make better use of library collections, as it reflects the relevant areas of knowledge in a structural form, describing the context, content and structure of an electronic document throughout its life cycle. The idea of analyzing the structure of scientific discourse in order to display it in metadata dates back to the last years of the twentieth century, when the theory of structural rhetoric appeared, which continued its development in the first decade of the new century. The idea of modeling scientific and technological progress based on a network of problems dates back to the same years. In such a system, the user sees on the computer screen a complex network consisting of a network of scientific and technical problems, a network of innovative cycles of technical products related to the problems shown, and a network of library documents. Problem networks are visualized by a representative of a special class of applied software systems – a graph editor that reads a network representation in text or binary format from a file. The graph editor builds network elements in its memory in the form of objects and shows them in its windows in two forms: in the form of a marked-up colored graph and in the form of a table displaying the attributes of objects. The urgency of the problem of choosing a basic software tool and its subsequent modification for working with metadata networks of electronic libraries is revealed. The main provisions of the modification of the editor interface are presented, which allow adapting the graph editor software system to work with the metadata network of the electronic library. The proposed concept of the editor interface allows you to use an extended instance of a special representative of a class of similar software systems for the needs of an electronic library.

According to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), Indonesian people's reading literacy interest has a literacy percentage of 0.001%, which means that out of 1.000 people, only one person likes to read. The digital reading movement attracts people's reading interest, especially with a digital library. Lahat District Library Service wants to re-establish a digital library that has been removed. By paying attention to usability and user experience, a digital library prototype design is carried out to develop the application to get user experience results with a good level of success and satisfaction. The method used is Design Thinking, which aims to design usable and valuable solutions by focusing on user needs. The results of the usability testing analysis of the digital library prototype created using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) get "Excellent" in six aspect categories: attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, stimulation, and novelty.

This paper describes efforts to digitize various library services at IAIN Madura in fulfilling user services during a pandemic. The surge in Covid-19 resulted in less-than-optimal library services, even to the point of temporarily closing face-to-face services. This, of course, requires the library to make a variation so that the service remains optimal during a pandemic. One of them is maximizing digital services which are very urgent to be carried out quickly and precisely, so that users can still get library services. This issue was raised, namely how the Madura IAIN library is able to provide digital services to fulfill user services since the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with data collection techniques by observation and interviews. The data analysis was carried out descriptively and interpretively based on the latest digital services as well as digital services that are experiencing the process of developing digital library applications at IAIN Madura. The results of this research are the latest digital-based library services and the development of digital applications to serve users since the Covid-19 pandemic. The newest digital library service at IAIN Madura is a digital self-lending service. Meanwhile, digital services that are undergoing application development include e-book, repository, and e-theses services. As for efforts to fulfill user services through library digitization, namely consolidating information technology (IT) teams, developing application programs, and adding library application programs to the IAIN Madura. All of these digital services are very important to be accessible and enjoyed by users during the pandemic and after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is because users still get maximum service with these digital services.

Given the size of digital library collections and the inconsistencies in their genre‐related bibliographic metadata, as digital libraries grow and their contents are opened for computational analysis, finding materials of interest becomes a major challenge. This challenge increases for sub‐genres and other categories of text data that are less distinct from the whole. This project pilots machine learning methods and word feature analysis for identifying Black Fantastic genre texts within the HathiTrust Digital Library. These texts are sometimes referred to as "Afrofuturism" but more commonly today described as "Black Fantastic," in which African Diaspora artists and creators engage with the intersections of race and technology in their works with a primary focus on world‐building. Black Fantastic texts pose a challenge to genre classification, as they incorporate aspects of science fiction and fantasy with typical characteristics of African Diaspora‐produced literature. This paper presents and reports on results from a pilot predictive modeling process to computationally identify Black Fantastic texts using curated word feature sets for each class of data: general English‐language fiction, Black‐authored fiction, and Black Fantastic fiction. Reading list systems are widely used in tertiary education as a pedagogical tool and for tracking copyrighted material. This article explores the make-up of reading lists across a whole university. We investigated the experience of academics and librarians when creating reading lists. A mixed-method approach was employed in which we performed a transaction log analysis on reading lists at a single university, from 2016 to 2020. A questionnaire was then answered by both academics and academic liaison librarians about their experience with reading lists. The results of our analysis found that uptake of reading lists varies widely between different academic disciplines. Academic engagement with reading lists was found to show only incremental growth over time, and overall satisfaction by academics with the reading list system was low. We explore implications for reading lists implemented through digital Libraries and recommend developing discipline-specific support to increase reading list numbers and to integrate pedagogical features to increase academic buy-in. Introduction: Digital libraries are trying to increase services to their users by removing the obstacles to and limitations of traditional libraries, such as the mass volume of publications, followed by the increase in the cost of providing printed resources, the lack of library space and the exhaustion of resources by providing resources in electronic formats. Digital library of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi is the biggest and most important digital library in Iran. This library tries to use advanced technology in order to change accessibility of users to the information resources and attract their attention. On the other hand, evaluating user's satisfaction is a good measure of a library's performance. Hence the main purpose of this study was to evaluate the usability of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi digital library through assessing its users' satisfaction. Methodology: This study was an applied research and its methodology was evaluative. Research population consisted of all users of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi digital library (40,000 people) which used the digital library in the year 2021. The sample was selected based on Krejcie and Morgan’s sample size table through simple random sampling (380 people). The required data was collected by a questionnaire. It included two parts: first part includes demographic information (such as sex, age, education and job experience in digital library of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi) and the second part of questionnaire includes 42 items evaluating usability of the digital library. In order to confirm the validity of the research tool, the comments and viewpoints of some instructors teaching at Imam Reza International University of Mashhad, Iran, were applied. In order to confirm the reliability, Cronbach’s alpha was used. The total alpha coefficient was 96. Also from 380 people which received questionnaires online, 365 people (near 96%) returned them. The gathered data was analyzed through the SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: Four criteria were found including "available digital resources", "usage capability", "performance status" and "search and retrieval status" to evaluate the usability of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi digital library. The findings showed that the highest rate of users' satisfaction regarding to the usability of Astan-e Quds-e Razavi digital library is related to search and retrieval functions. Summary: Digital libraries are now widely used by students all around the world due to the hassle‐free services it offers in the form of digitized study materials, ebooks, multimedia content and so forth. However, to increase user satisfaction and allegiance, a personalized digital library needs to be deployed to offer customized services to the users. To accomplish this objective, this article presents a novel scheme to design personalized digital libraries via the usage of the Protégé editor and machine learning techniques. The Protégé 4.3 tool is used to generate the digital library ontologies and identify the interrelated concepts. Domain knowledge acquisition, ontology organization, ontology elaboration, ensuring the consistency of the information, and ontology validation. The gated recurrent unit‐recurrent neural network (GRU‐RNN) with a deep training tree (DTT) is used to predict the different user behavior styles such as cognitive behavior, learning speed behavior, sedentary behavior, and aggressive behavior. The DTT is mainly incorporated to overcome the vanishing gradient issue associated with the GRU‐RNN and used in the place of gradient‐based optimization. A black widow optimization approach is employed to update the weights of the GRU‐RNN network in order to increase its accuracy. The efficiency of the proposed methodology is analyzed by using different performance metrics such as F‐score, accuracy, loss, precision, and recall scores. The results show that the personalized digital library created can be efficient in terms of usability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LIBRARY cooperation , *GRADUATE students , *DIGITAL libraries , *LIBRARY personnel , *INTERNET speed , *COLLEGE students - Abstract
Digital libraries are established to meet the demands of students who are ever in need of information which are current, updated and available at a go, to satisfy their academic needs. However, in spite of the benefits accrued to the use of digital library, postgraduate students, hardly make meaningful use of digital libraries probably because of lack required information which could be made available if digital libraries collaborate with other digital libraries. The study therefore investigates library cooperation and use of digital library by postgraduate students in selected universities in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 29,017 postgraduate students and 363 library personnel in 12 universities in Southwest, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted to draw a sample size of 385 from the postgraduate population, while simple random technique with a sampling fraction of 50% was used to draw a sample size of 182 from the library personnel population. The predominant purpose of digital library use by postgraduate students in the selected universities is for examination preparation (... = 3.36) and to complete assignment (... = 3.29). There is a low frequency of digital library use by the postgraduate students. The prominent area of library cooperation among the digital libraries was Inter-library lending (... = 3.43). The study identified erratic power supply (... = 3.25), slow internet speed (... = 3.15) and inaccessibility of some websites (... = 3.13), as some predominant challenges to digital library use by the postgraduate students. There is a weak, positive but not statistically significant relationship between library cooperation and digital library use by postgraduate students (r = .146, P > 0.05). Library cooperation influences the use of digital library by postgraduate students. Libraries should prioritise investment in collaborating with other institutions and stakeholders to share best practices, develop common standards, and promote interoperability of digital resources, as this can help to improve the quality and availability of digital resources and facilitate access to resources across different institutions. Digital repositories play a crucial role in organizing and preserving vast collections of digital content. Efficiently ingesting large amounts of data into these repositories is a common challenge faced by institutions. This paper explores the use of bulk upload techniques in DSpace, an open-source digital repository software, to streamline the ingestion process and enhance repository management. We discuss the benefits of bulk upload in terms of time savings, metadata consistency, and scalability. Additionally, we delve into the technical aspects of implementing bulk upload in DSpace, covering the Simple Archive Format (SAF), metadata mapping, and handling of digital files. Furthermore, we highlight real-world examples and best practices for utilizing bulk upload in DSpace. By adopting this approach, institutions can significantly improve their efficiency in managing and preserving digital content, ensuring a seamless user experience, and facilitating knowledge dissemination. Here, an experimental method of research/case study technique is utilized to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the design model for implementation of the bulk uploading of documents in Dspace at Bennett University is practiced. The feedback is gathered in order to identify the flaws and make the necessary improvements. Simple Archive Format (SAF) is a utility that converts Bitstream/Content files plus a metadata.csv file into a Simple Archive Format package, making bulk uploads to the DSpace repository simple. All question papers were digitized using a high-quality scanner, an Excel file with Dublin core information was created, and Excel was converted to CSV format in order to import all old question papers in bulk into the Bennett University Digital Repository Services. The study indicates that it is essential to pay close attention to the precise format of metadata leveraging the Dublin core and the file's location. It is an experiment conducted by the Bennett University Library and the research was confined to Bennett University digital repository. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to determine how the usage and understanding of open-source digital repositories affect measurements. This paper examines a DSpace and EPrints case study at Fiji National University. The idea of a digital repository is essential in research communities. Facilitating research in an open-access setting is essential. Open-access digital library software such as DSpace, EPrints, and Greenstone can address these problems. In contrast, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has fundamentally changed how individuals' access and engage with information. Since they provide accurate and up-to-date information and support an academic institution's primary objective, digital sources of information have become crucial to the current library collections in the academic environment. Nevertheless, as information and communication technology (ICT) has advanced, how individuals' access and engage with information has seen a revolutionary change, and the phrase "digital library" has proliferated throughout the library community. The effects of the pandemic, namely restrictions, closures, and other lockdown measures implemented to keep people safe and make it difficult or impossible to visit many locations and cultural events, have become increasingly evident with the advanced use of digital repositories in university libraries. Despite this, the epidemic has raised users' and researchers' awareness of digital access, making it more straightforward for people to obtain information, services, and other material resources online without considering the physical requirement to visit these places. Technological breakthroughs have caused significant changes in modern culture. The sharing and preserving of information, which has substantial worth and will last for decades, is essential for a generation's legacy. To gain skills for this software, professionals in the library and information science (LIS) area have gone through training on a variety of platforms. Universities and organizations can access digital research and educational materials thanks to the most popular institutional repository software products, DSPACE and EPrints. Other institutional repository software programs are available, subsequently, more original content in digital formats is produced and never released through conventional channels. Institutions and universities need to maintain their valuable assets. The purpose of this study is to examine the outcomes of increasing librarians awareness and use of DSpace and EPrints, two open-source digital repositories, as well as the value of training workshops for librarians at the Fiji National University. This paper examined administration and management of digital libraries: an overview. The concept management was clearly defined and explained in the context of the work; thereafter the term digital library was explained succinctly as an age that is characterized by efficient and effective conversion, storage, diffusion and dissemination of data to users. The various services that are performed in the digital environment were listed as follows: Circulation Services (Reader Services); Serial Services; Electronic Library Services; Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Services. Social Media. In the context of this study, some difficulties that prevent a digital library from operating smoothly include: Librarians lacking the necessary abilities to successfully handle these services; inadequate cash provided by the university administration to purchase the required equipment; attitude issue with librarians still favoring the traditional method of service delivery over change; Lack of maintenance culture: Lack of maintenance culture is one of the biggest challenges to maintaining university libraries in the digital world. This attribute is not only associated with libraries but also with the Nigerian government and elites. The management of university libraries in digital libraries becomes challenging without the maintenance culture spirit; Insecurity in the face of advancing information technology: Confidence is necessary for managing people and physical resources efficiently in university libraries. The library manager must be up to date on contemporary advances in order to manage university libraries in a digital environment with strong confidence. In the face of advancing information technology, many librarians lack confidence; No clearly defined ICT Policy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Risk assessment according to ISO 31000 standard is a systematic and logical process that includes identification, analysis and measurement. The risk identification process involves determining the type and source of potential risks. Risk analysis involves determining the estimated level of risks in terms of indices such as the probability and potential consequences of the risk. The measurement involves comparing the estimated levels of risks with respect to the analysis criteria and eventually the risk ranking. The present study aims to assess (identify, analyze and measure) the risks of professional expertise of human resources at digital libraries according to ISO 31000 standard. Methods: The present research is an applied nature and to implement it, survey and analytic methods have been applied with Shannon Entropy to weight risks and fuzzy TOPSIS to evaluate them. Primarily the most important risks were identified using the relevant resources and the results of previous researches, a process which led to the formulation of a questionnaire consisting of 38 items. First the demographic characteristics were described and the central statistical indices (mean and median) as well as the dispersion index (standard deviation) were examined. Next, using the weighted average index to the criteria defined by Shannon's entropy method and their application in TOPSIS software, positive and negative ideal options were determined. In the risk assessment stage, risks were prioritized by comparing the distance of each one from the positive and negative ideal options. The content validity and reliability equals 0.955 according to Cronbach's alpha test. Findings: 18 professional expertise risks were identified. Risk of having the necessary knowledge about semantic web languages and tools with the minimum distance from the positive ideal point by the value (0.0103) and the maximum distance from the negative ideal point by the value (0.104), and the maximum coefficient close to (0.9103) ranked first. It means that this risk has the closest distance to the ideal positive point and is the most important. Risk of employees' ability to provide digital reference services ranked 18th with the minimum distance from the negative ideal (0.0114) and the maximum distance from the positive ideal (0/1043), and the minimum proximity coefficient (0.0982). That is, it has the maximum distance from the positive ideal option and is the least important. Conclusions: Among the 18 risks of professional expertise of human resources at digital libraries identified, the risk of "having the necessary knowledge about semantic web languages and tools" is the first priority. This reveals that the human resources of academic digital libraries are not in a good position in terms of up-to-date knowledge and modern information technologies and the semantic web that underlies ontologies and linked data, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim. This paper aims to consider the concept and perception of digital transformation on the example of the Bogdan Ogrizović Library and Reading Room in Zagreb, which represents one of the key focal points of the social and cultural life of the city of Zagreb. Approach/methodology/design. The paper presents the results of a research conducted using a quantitative research method with the help of a survey on a convenient sample of respondents. Results. The conducted research has confirmed the hypothesis that the users perceive changes in the library's services and holdings caused by the changes in information and communication technology, which is one of the manifestations and tools of digital transformation with regard to library's operations and the users' perception of the library. More than half of the respondents stated that they perceive the library equally in terms of library materials, space, and services. In each of these categories, the respondents perceive the library most through library materials, then somewhat less as a space, and least through services. The users see the library of the near future as an institution that provides a combined service: in digital and paper format, which indicates a balanced approach to library development and implies that the digital sphere will not abolish the paper one, at least not in the near future. The librarians are also expected to possess not only the professional knowledge, but also communication and IT skills. In general, the respondents are aware of the existing changes in the library, but they expect additional changes, new contents and services in the digital form. Limitations. The results of the research are limited by the number of respondents and the sample and cannot be generalized to the entire population of users of the City of Zagreb Library network (which also includes the Bogdan Ogrizović Library and Reading Room). Despite this fact, the research results are an important indicator of changes in public libraries under the influence of information and communication technology, which requires continuous research. Practical application. The results of the research can be applied when creating strategic and operational (annual) work plans of the public library where the research was conducted, as well as in other public libraries. Social significance. The results of the conducted research provide an insight into the work of one of the most popular public libraries in Zagreb, which contributes to better knowledge of the work of public libraries in general and their greater visibility in society. Originality/value. The paper presents the original results of the research on public library users in a period of great economic and social changes in which libraries also participate by (digitally) transforming their services, thus trying to attract new users, primarily the younger generation who are increasingly oriented towards digital media on the Internet. DIGITAL libraries , *HISTORY of libraries , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *WEB portals , *LOCAL history , *WEBSITES , *PUBLIC libraries , *SCHOOL libraries - Abstract
Goal. The paper presents the project The Local History Digital Library of the Primorsko-Goranska County, whose initiator and coordinator is the Rijeka City Library, and which undoubtedly represents a logical continuation of the functional connecting of public and school libraries in Primorsko-Goranska County. Approach/methodology. The project was implemented through several phases. In the first phase, we established a shared repository on the Indigo platform. Then the files and metadata were migrated from SVeVid, the digital library of the Rijeka City Library, using the Omeka system to the new system with a more complex metamodel. The Mali Lošinj digital library, which had already been digitized and prepared for publication on the platform Indigo, was also placed in the same repository. In the second phase, the digital collections of the Crikvenica City Library and the Viktor Car Emin City Library in Opatija, were also migrated from the Omeka system, and the functionalities of the Portal itself have been refined. At the same time, the existing local history periodicals of the Rijeka City Library, that had already been digitized, were also placed in the repository, as well as the other materials that were digitized in the meantime. In the following stages, the valuable local history material stored in public and school libraries of the Primorsko-Goranska County will be gradually digitized and uploaded on the portal. The results. The Local History Digital Library of the Primorsko-Goranska County was established as a digital repository on the Indigo platform that enables storage and standardization processing of the library material and its presentation, as well as creation of additional content. Each library included in the project has its own web page on the portal, with the possibility of searching the entire content of the repository or exclusively the content included in the digital collection of a specific library. In addition to the local history part, the portal also contains an informative section that includes the newsletters of the local and regional self-government units that the Rijeka City Library receives as the county legal deposit copies, and for which the consent for publication has been obtained from the copyright holder. Originality/value. The project "Local History Digital Library of the Primorsko-Goranska County" is innovative in its a pproach because the targeted area for the project is not just one library, but the entire jurisdiction of the county central library (Rijeka City Library), whereby one union repository contains several digital libraries from different institutions. This project can serve as a model for similar projects in other environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACADEMIC librarians , *COLLABORATIVE learning , *MAKERSPACES , *DIGITAL technology , *CREATIVE ability - Abstract
Libraries of today are not just a place to consult books and other pedagogical materials but have completely transformed into a space where users can interact, create, and collaborate. Library and information centres are creating spaces called makerspaces in this digital transformation era, whereby researchers work together and share ideas in their various areas of specialisation. Makerspace are relatively new phenomena that create a collaborative and innovative environment for individuals to work on projects and learn about emerging technologies. Technology-centred makerspaces are increasingly being built in academic libraries, typically featuring high-tech machines and software that facilitate creation and design. This study investigated the creation and adoption of technology-centred makerspaces in academic libraries and the impact that makerspaces have on academic innovation. The study utilized literature review analyzed secondary data from articles, journals, periodicals, and publications to identify the need to design makerspaces, what is required in setting up a makerspace, and how academic libraries utilize makerspaces. The benefits accrued from makerspaces, barriers to effective adoption of these spaces, factors enabling adoption of makerspaces, and the state-of-the-art facilities offered by the library were also explored in this study. It is recommended that library management should not hesitate to establish makerspaces in their respective academic libraries, as this will aid in promoting knowledge-sharing, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. DIGITAL libraries , *INFORMATION sharing , *WEBSITE usability , *LOCAL transit access , *GOVERNMENT policy - Abstract
The Digital Library on Green Mobility (DLGM) aims to provide a platform for sharing ideas, knowledge, and documents among stakeholders of various organisations and institutions involved in Low Carbon Transport in India.1 It offers full-text access to national and state-level policies, regulations, reports, articles, books, standards, case studies, etc., on green mobility. Following a case study approach, the study highlights the process of developing a knowledge-sharing platform and the success of DLGM in meeting critical objectives. The usage trend and user behaviour of DLGM were also analysed to draw inferences to improve website usability. We briefly discuss how different insights from DLGM can be obtained to benefit a diverse set of stakeholders, such as policymakers, practitioners, private companies, and researchers, for evidence-based gap identification, decision-making, and way forward in various green mobility topics. The study contributes to the original findings based on users' and website accessibility surveys undertaken by authors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
