Studying of the Corcovado Hill's heritage importance, placed at sector B of the Tijuca National Park, at Serra da Carioca, Rio de Janeiro/RJ, the found methodologies of geodiversity valuation were realized by researchers' point of views. However, the study raised some questions about how the society see it. Would Corcovado Hill be only recognized as a wonderful landscape? Is it understood and valorized as a heritage? Do people see something besides this landscape? And if they do, what would it be? To answer all this questions a data collection instrument was found to analyze the society relationship with Corcovado Hill. The structured questionnaire/interview showed as a very good tool to decipher the people's heritage perception. It was thought and organized to show, after its application and analysis, its importance to understand as the society appropriated the geological heritage and permit the best decisions about the heritage use. Ao iniciar o estudo sobre a importância patrimonial do Morro do Corcovado, situado no setor B do Parque Nacional da Tijuca, na Serra da Carioca, município do Rio de Janeiro/RJ, encontrou-se metodologia aplicada somente sob a visão do pesquisador para valorar a geodiversidade. Mas, ao longo do estudo, surgiu a necessidade de saber como a sociedade o via. Seria o Morro do Corcovado apenas reconhecido como uma paisagem deslumbrante pelos seus visitantes? Será que é entendido e valorizado como patrimônio? Será que os indivíduos vêem algo além dessa paisagem? E se vêem o quê seria? Para responder a esses questionamentos se buscou uma ferramenta que fornecesse a relação da sociedade com Morro do Corcovado. Nesse contexto, o questionário/entrevista estruturado mostrou ser uma ferramenta indispensável para a coleta de dados, visando decifrar a percepção patrimonial dos indivíduos. O questionário/entrevista foi pensado e organizado de forma estruturada, visando, através de sua aplicação e análise preliminares, mostrar como esse instrumento serve como ferramenta para compreender as apropriações do patrimônio geológico pela sociedade e possibilitar as tomadas de decisão quanto ao uso mais indicado desse patrimônio.

A current control strategy for an asynchronous machine was formulated, studied, and simulated. In the design of the controller a time-varying multiple-input multiple-output model is used to describe the relationship between stator current and the voltage. However, in the discrete equivalent MIMO model the dominant parameters have a restricted variation range due to the discretization. On the other hand, since this model depends only on the terminal quantities, its parameters can be easily estimated. The current control was implemented using the predictive technique. The parameters of the controller were obtained using the recursive least squares estimation technique. The performance of the system was evaluated using the transfer matrix approach. The plotting of the Bode curves and the computation of the zeros and poles of the model were used to predict the closed-loop static and dynamic behavior. The time response results agreed with those predicted using the frequency response technique. >

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2001-01-01 In this work we present evidence that water molecules are actively involved on the control of binding affinity and binding site discrimination of a drug to natural DNA. In a previous study, the effect of water activity (a(w)) on the energetic parameters of actinomycin-D intercalation to natural DNA was determined using the osmotic stress method (39). This earlier study has shown evidence that water molecules act as an allosteric regulator of ligand binding to DNA via the effect of water activity on the long-range stability of the DNA secondary structure. In this work we have carried out DNA circularization experiments using the plasmid pUC18 in the absence of drugs and in the presence of different neutral solutes to evaluate the contribution of water activity to the energetics of DNA helix unwinding. The contribution of water to these independent reactions were made explicit by the description of how the changes in the free energy of ligand binding to DNA and in the free energy associated with DNA helix torsional deformation are linked to a(w) via changes in structural hydration. Taken together, the results of these studies reveal an extensive linkage between ligand binding affinity and site binding discrimination, and long range helix conformational changes and DNA hydration. This is strong evidence that water molecules work as a classical allosteric regulator of ligand binding to the DNA via its contribution to the stability of the double helix secondary structure, suggesting a possible mechanism by which the biochemical machinery of DNA processing takes advantage of the low activity of water into the cellular milieu. The present study was done to estimate the prevalence of Hepatitis A (HAV), B (HBV), C (HCV), and E (HEV) infection in the general population residing in the municipality of São Paulo, and to evaluate the level of knowledge related to the various modes of infection transmission by and protection against the different viruses. Blood samples and health questionnaires were collected from 1,059 individuals. The study design used an inductive method of predictive statistical inferences through randomized sampling stratified by Sex, age and residence region. The estimated prevalence rated found were: Hepatitis A = 66.59% (63.75%-69.44% CI); Hepatitis B = 5.94% (4.50%-7.35%); Hepatitis C = 1.42% (0,70%-2.12%); Hepatitis E = 1.68% (0.91%-2.46%). The frequency of hepatitis was similar in males and females. HAV showed an estimated prevalence of 56.16% in the population up to 17 years old, increasing to 65.30% in individuals between 18 and 29 years. The infection reached its peak of 90% in individuals 40 years of age or older. The study showed a greater tendency of dissemination of HBV among the population between 15 and 17 years. This specific age group showed an estimated prevalence of active infection of 1.04% (0.43%-1.65% CI), and also demonstrated an ascending level of acquired immunity with an estimated prevalence of 4.90% (3.60%-6.20% CI). HCV demonstrated an estimated prevalence of 1.42% (0.70%-2.12% CI). This specific infection occurred more frequently among adults 30 years of age or older, with the prevalence reaching a peak of 3.80% among the group aged 50 to 59 years. HEV showed zero prevalence among the age group between 2 and 9 years. This was followed by a slightly ascending rate starting from age 10, with an estimated prevalence of 1.05% (0.94%-3.04% CI) among those 10 to 14 years of age. This infection reached its peak of 3.00% (0.55%-6.74% CI) at the age of 60 years or older. Individuals with lower educational levels had a higher tendency of acquiring HAV and HCV, while there was no statistically significant difference for this parameter related to HBV and HEV. HBV occurred more frequently among inhabitants of the northern region of the city. All other hepatitis forms occurred at similar frequencies among the five regions of the city. Among the population, 1.90% (1.08%-2.72% CI) demonstrated an elevated hepatic enzyme with no serologic evidence indicating the cause was the viruses studied. This observation suggests the presence of other hepatic diseases, possibly including other viral diseases. It was also estimated that 75.12% of the city's population did not know the modes of transmission of hepatitis viruses and 76.70% did not know how to prevent them. This clearly suggests the need for a full-scale education program combined with public health measures regarding prevention of all forms of vial hepatitis.
