This research investigates the impact of the training and testing ratios on the performance of an AI-Based Malware Detector using MATLAB. The experiments through MATLAB have shown that higher training percentage means that a larger portion of dataset for training the model have been used while a lower training percentage shows that a large portion of the dataset reserved for testing the model’s performance. The exploration of the influence of training and testing ratios also have been able to determine the performance of an AI-Based Malware Detector. The results give to determining the relationship between training and testing ratios and the effectiveness of the malware detection system.

For cancer screening to be successful, it should primarily detect cancers with lethal potential or their precursors early, leading to therapy that reduces mortality and morbidity. Screening programmes have been successful for colon and cervical cancers, where subsequent surgical removal of precursor lesions has resulted in a reduction in cancer incidence and mortality. However, many types of cancer exhibit a range of heterogeneous behaviours and variable likelihoods of progression and death. Consequently, screening for some cancers may have minimal impact on mortality and may do more harm than good. Since the implementation of screening tests for certain cancers (for example, breast and prostate cancers), a spike in incidence of in situ and early-stage cancers has been observed, but a link to reduction in cancer-specific mortality has not been as clear. It is difficult to determine how many of these mortality reductions are due to screening and how many are due to improved treatments of tumours. In cancers with lower incidence but high mortality (for example, pancreatic cancer), screening has focused on high-risk populations, but challenges similar to those for general population screening remain, particularly with regard to finding lesions with difficult-to-characterize malignant potential (for example, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms). More sensitive screening methods are detecting smaller and smaller lesions, but this has not been accompanied by a comparable reduction in the incidence of invasive cancers. In this Opinion article, we focus on the contribution of screening in general and high-risk populations to overdiagnosis, the effects of overdiagnosis on patients and emerging strategies to reduce overdiagnosis of indolent cancers through an understanding of tumour heterogeneity, the biology of how cancers evolve and progress, the molecular and cellular features of early neoplasia and the dynamics of the interactions of early lesions with their surrounding tissue microenvironment.

BackgroundCancer cell metabolism requires sustained pools of intracellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) which is maintained by a balance of NAD+ hydrolase activity and NAD+ salvage activity. We recently reported that human prostate cancer can be initiated following oncogene expression in progenitor-like luminal cells marked by low expression of the NAD+-consuming enzyme CD38. CD38 expression is reduced in prostate cancer compared to benign prostate, suggesting that tumor cells may reduce CD38 expression in order to enhance pools of NAD+. However, little is known about how CD38 expression is repressed in advanced prostate cancer and whether CD38 plays a role in regulating NAD+ levels in prostate epithelial cells.MethodsCD38 expression, its association with recurrence after prostatectomy for clinically localized prostate cancer, and DNA methylation of the CD38 promoter were evaluated in human prostate tissues representing various stages of disease progression. CD38 was inducibly over-expressed in benign and malignant human prostate cell lines in order to determine the effects on cell proliferation and levels of NAD+ and NADH. NAD+ and NADH were also measured in urogenital tissues from wild-type and CD38 knockout mice.ResultsCD38 mRNA expression was reduced in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer compared to localized prostate cancer. In a large cohort of men undergoing radical prostatectomy, CD38 protein expression was inversely correlated with recurrence. We identified methylation of the CD38 promoter in primary and metastatic prostate cancer. Over-expression of wild-type CD38, but not an NAD+ hydrolase-deficient mutant, depleted extracellular NAD+ levels in benign and malignant prostate cell lines. However, expression of CD38 did not significantly alter intracellular NAD+ levels in human prostate cell lines grown in vitro and in urogenital tissues isolated from wild-type and CD38 knockout mice.ConclusionsCD38 protein expression in prostate cancer is associated with risk of recurrence. Methylation results suggest that CD38 is epigenetically regulated in localized and metastatic prostate cancer tissues. Our study provides support for CD38 as a regulator of extracellular, but not intracellular, NAD+ in epithelial cells. These findings suggest that repression of CD38 by methylation may serve to increase the availability of extracellular NAD+ in prostate cancer tissues.

In this work, we employed a new ambient ionization mass spectrometry technique, sandpaper spray mass spectrometry (SPS‐MS), as an efficient tool to analyze pills and tablets of pharmaceutical formulations. The following samples were analyzed: regulators of blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes, and drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Additionally, a hard candy of Cannabis sativa containing Δ9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9‐THC) and its related isomer cannabidiol (CBD) was also evaluated. The surfaces of the samples, without any prior treatment, were sanded onto triangular‐cut sandpaper, and full MS scans (and MS/MS) were acquired in both positive and negative ionization modes. SPS‐MS (and MS/MS) allowed for prompt detection of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in each formulation. Other components of the formulations, added as excipients, were also tentatively identified. The results described herein indicate that the SPS‐MS technique can be applied to fast screening of pills and tablets being potentially used as an efficient tool to detect counterfeit pharmaceutical and illicit products, a current issue of increasing concern. Deep learning (DL)–based algorithms to determine prostate cancer (PCa) Grade Group (GG) on biopsy slides have not been validated by comparison to clinical outcomes. We used a DL-based algorithm, AIRAProstate, to regrade initial prostate biopsies in 2 independent PCa active surveillance (AS) cohorts. In a cohort initially diagnosed with GG1 PCa using only systematic biopsies (n = 138), upgrading of the initial biopsy to ≥GG2 by AIRAProstate was associated with rapid or extreme grade reclassification on AS (odds ratio = 3.3, P  =  .04), whereas upgrading of the initial biopsy by contemporary uropathologist reviews was not associated with this outcome. In a contemporary validation cohort that underwent prostate magnetic resonance imaging before initial biopsy (n = 169), upgrading of the initial biopsy (all contemporary GG1 by uropathologist grading) by AIRAProstate was associated with grade reclassification on AS (hazard ratio = 1.7, P  =  .03). Purpose: Indeterminate renal masses are increasingly incidentally found on cross-sectional imaging. 99mTc-sestamibi single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) scans can be used to identify oncocytomas and oncocytic renal neoplasms, including a subset of chromophobe renal cell carcinomas (chRCCs), which are viewed as false-positive. Procedure: Patients imaged with renal sestamibi scans between 2014 and 2023 were reviewed. Those patients with solitary tumors that were originally classified as chRCC were included in the analysis. Imaging with SPECT/CT from the liver dome down had been carried out 75 min after the administration of 925 MBq of 99mTc-sestamibi. All available H&E and immunostained slides were re-reviewed and classified according to WHO 2022 criteria. Confirmatory immunohistochemical stains were performed in tumors considered morphologically suspicious for non-chRCC entities. Result: A total of 18 patients with solitary tumors were included in the final analysis. 13/18 (72.2%) tumors in this cohort remained classified as chRCC, with 4/18 (22.2%) being eosinophilic-variant chRCC. The reclassified tumors (5/18 [27.8%]) included 2/18 (11.1%) low-grade oncocytic tumor (LOT), 1/18 (5.5%) eosinophilic vacuolated tumor (EVT), and 2/18 (11.1%) unclassified low-grade oncocytic neoplasms. As such, only 2/9 (22.2%) qualitatively "hot" tumors were chRCC other than eosinophilic-variant and only 1/9 (11.1%) "cold" tumors was a histology other than chRCC. Conclusion: Based on current histopathologic classification methods, it is likely that the "false-positive" rate of uptake on renal sestamibi scans with chRCC has been over-stated. Further study is warranted to better refine the optimal utility of renal sestamibi scans for non-invasive risk stratification of indeterminate renal masses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The sustainability of cities is a challenge due to the growth, functioning, and needs of the population. In this context, the concept of the smart city has gained prominence worldwide in the last decades. In Brazil, it has also drawn attention driven by technological advances and the search for innovative solutions to urban challenges. Several different reports were created aiming to assess and categorize the advancement of cities in this regard. Some of them established their own indicators for this evaluation, whereas others are based on standards ISO 37120 and ISO 37122. The focus of this study revolves around the examination of indicators presently utilized, which may be influenced by initiatives grounded in the principles of green chemistry (PGCs). Furthermore, it explores how these principles can aid in the realization of the targets outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations. Two case studies are presented, the first pointing out how PGCs and SDGs can correlate with smart city reporting indicators. The second is a case study centered on the Brazilian city of Curitiba (PR). We aim to exemplify how the city's action plans underscore the significance of synergy among the principles of green chemistry, the objectives of sustainable development, and indicators for smart cities. Assessing how chemically green a city can be is a relevant argument for future industrial installations and stakeholders and the influence of this index on the quality of life of its population. This pilot study tested a single-session digital values affirmation for behavioral activation (VABA) intervention. Hypotheses predicted the VABA intervention would be more effective than an active control condition in improving mood, decreasing COVID-19 fear/worry and depressive symptoms, and promoting positively reinforcing behaviors during early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were a diverse sample of undergraduate students (N = 296) under a state-wide lockdown. Students were randomized to either VABA, a 10-min values clarification and affirmation task, or Control, a time- and attention-matched task. Positive and negative affects were assessed pre- and post-intervention. At next-day follow-up, positive and negative affects were reassessed, as well as past 24-h behavioral activation and depressive symptoms. Within-group increases in positive affect were observed in both conditions (VABA d = 0.39; Control d = 0.19). However, VABA produced a significantly larger increase than Control (F[2] = 3.856, p =.022, d = 0.22). At 24-h follow-up, behavioral activation, which was significantly higher in VABA versus Control (t[294] = −5.584, p <.001, d = 0.65), predicted fewer depressive symptoms (R2 change =.019, β = -.134, p =.003). Cargo transport to the space station and the transport of satellites to orbit the Earth are necessary for not only scientific analysis, but also for the telecommunications sector; therefore, the use of rockets with propellant fuel has been growing. Therefore, our manuscript proposes a mathematical model to analyze nonlinear dynamic behavior. Such a model is based on Mathieu's solution. However, we consider that the application of force for rocket propulsion is not ideal. The formulation of the applied force is based on Bessel s equations and has a dependence on parameters (ao and bo) that enable interesting characteristics. such as ao = 0 which makes it possible to turn the non-ideal force into a force ideal, that is, a simple oscillatory force. And as a result. the parametric set was established to diagnose the chaotic and periodic behavior that can be observed in mathematical modeling. Establishing these analyzes allows the application of future work in the development of control projects to reduce vibrations that can cause anomalies in the trajectories for the system's entry into orbit. The sugarcane caterpiliar (Diatraea Saccharalis) is one of the most important pests of sugarcane plantations. Studies suggest that the Cotesia wasp Flavipes can control the population of the Diatraea Caterpillar Saccharalis, thus avoiding economic damage. This paper considers the application of optimal control in a ratio-dependent predator-prey system, where the caterpillar Diatraea saccharalis is the prey and the Cotesia wasp Flavipes. The linearization of the ratio-dependent model made it possible to reduce the problem of obtaining optimal control to the problem of control synthesis for linear systems with a quadratic functional. Numerical simulations showed that the proposed control is efficient in stabilizing the system at a desired point below the critical concentration, thus allowing it to minimize the level of economic damage. In this article, we investigate a tower with a non-linear motor, in which we propose a mathematical model that describes the vibrations of a tower-type system with a non-ideal motor coupled, for a prototype of a wind turbine. With that, State-Dependent Riccati Equation Control (SDRE) to suppress the jump caused by the Sommerfeld Effect in the structure to a desired periodic orbit. And as a result, we control the system and suppress the bounce that is observed so that the amplitude of the vibrations decreases. Such a decrease in the amplitude of vibrations can prevent malfunctions, or even disasters. Vibration control in wind generators is important to ensure that wind turbine operation is safe, reliable, and efficient. Excessive vibrations can cause damage to components such as the wind turbine's rotating blades and shorten their service life. Recent research on two-link, two-degree-of-freedom robotic manipulators has surged due to their simulation, modeling, and application advantages. Robotic manipulators with two degrees of freedom are one of the main mechanical systems where vibration and positioning control effects can be found, and for this purpose, devices are needed to establish control of the active set and study its behaviors. This paper explores control methodologies\textquotesingle{} application, mathematical modeling, and effective control for linear systems, highlighting successful implementations in robotic manipulators, the mathematical modeling of the system is developed to compare the performance of linear controls, considering the Linear Quadratic Controller (LQR), Feedforward Control (FFW) and Integrative Control (I) in relation to the ability to control position and vibration for predetermined task execution of a robot composed of two rigid links. The position is controlled by the electric current applied to the DC motor. The control acts on the motor current and, consequently, on the position of the motor shaft and link. Three control combinations are evaluated to enhance system complexity. The work emphasizes efficiency gains in industrial robotics, offering cost, time, and complexity reductions. This work presents an investigation of the degradation of paracetamol via heterogeneous photocatalysis, aiming to magnetically immobilize the catalyst in a continuous process. Catalyst immobilization was conducted on aggregated flower-like structures. The CoFe2O4@Nb5O2 catalyst was characterized using a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The effects of the magnetic immobilization of the catalyst, flow, residence time, adsorption, and photolysis were evaluated. Additionally, catalyst reuse cycles were analyzed. The results indicated that a longer residence time favors the degradation of paracetamol due to the increase in the contact time of the effluent catalyst. At a flow rate of 20 mL·min−1, a degradation of 27% was obtained. Photolysis and adsorption tests indicated that residence time was not an important factor for paracetamol degradation. For the photolysis test, in the first cycle, the values obtained were in the range of 6.0–8.5%. The adsorption results indicated ~10% removal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
