This series records infractions of the rules by officers or inmates, and inmates' complaints. Kept by the assistant superintendent, information recorded includes the date; inmate number (if applicable); name; whether an officer or inmate; whether there were former offenses or complaints; the offense or complaint; action or penalty imposed; days lost; and compensation not earned for the month.

This series consists of materials used in inmate psychological testing at the Albion State Training School. Testing materials include mazes; picture arrangement and completion; arithmetic and other problem-solving tests; blank test sheets; Rorschach plates; and information on and instructions for tests. Also included are minutes of a group therapy session and items such as guidebooks for new inmates; rules and duties for officers; and a file on in-service training courses.

Included are a variety of tests, blank test and score sheets; Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Manual; completed written tests; instructions; test catalogues; psychologists' reports of incarcerated individuals' work in prison workshops; personality inventories; psychologists' examinations and charts of incarcerated individuals tested. This series consists of statistical profiles of incarcerated individuals at the New York State Reformatory. Category statistics include type of offense; length of maximum and definite sentence; occupation; personal and physical characteristics; educational level; mental level; religion; color; ethnicity; past criminal and institutional history; and level of drunkenness. Other statistics relate to number of incarcerated individuals discharged; paroled; returned for parole violations; pardoned; escaped; transferred to other institutions or died while in prison.

The series consists of brief memorandums from physicians to prison authorities usually recommending appropriate medical care or end of need for medical care for incarcerated patients that the physicians have examined. Many memorandums recommend that an incarcerated individual be mustered out of the military squad because of a medical problem. Memorandums include date, addressee, consecutive number, last name of the incarcerated individual, and physicians name and title. The name of physician is often omitted.

This series consists of indefinite and determinate sentence information on incarcerated individuals at Auburn prison. The four indefinite registers contain the person's name; residence; consecutive number; minimum and maximum sentence terms; date paroled; expiration date of maximum sentence; discharge date; and date of parole violation if applicable. The two determinate or definite registers contain the same information except there is an added notation citing number of days of jail time.

This series contains routine letters to the Comptroller's Office concerning financial matters such as expenditures, appropriations and bonds mostly from Auburn and Sing Sing prisons.

Binders contain typewritten opinions of the State's attorney general on questions about the sentencing and confinement of prisoners and other legal issues relating to prisons. Some of the opinions relate to cases of specific prisoners (although names are not always given) and some to general issues. The questions and opinions involved interpretations of the Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and other relevant laws.

This series consists of annual reports submitted by the prison warden to the Commissioner of Correction. The reports include statistical and descriptive information on prison matters such as financial receipts and expenditures; prison labor; incarcerated population; industries; educational and other programs; discipline; maintenance; and administration and operation of the prison.

This series consists of monthly statements of receipts and expenditures maintained by the prison wardens of Auburn, Clinton, Great Meadow and Sing Sing prisons. Statements include receipts from the sale of goods manufactured at the prisons and records of the amount spent on items such as equipment, wages; and administrative expenses.

Edgecombe Residential Treatment Facility (formerly Edgecombe Correctional Facility), located in the New York City borough of Manhattan, is a minimum security correctional facility for female inmates and male inmates 18 years of age or older. Inmate case files describe in great detail the family and social background, arrest, confinement, and release/parole of incarcerated men.

The register is divided into sections by gender and race and lists name, birthplace, crime, county of conviction, sentence, and date of sentence. Some entries include residence, occupation, skin complexion, hair color, height, and physical characteristics. Annual statistical summaries breakdown prisoners by crime, race, gender, place of birth, county of conviction, and length of sentence.

This series consists of case files for inmates who received psychiatric examinations at Dannemora State Hospital. Information includes name; number; ethnic background; age; birthdate; birthplace; religion; marital status; date of admission; number of previous admissions to Dannemora; place transferred from; term of sentence; crime; diagnosis; previous admission to mental hospitals; results of psychological testing; family, personal, marital, military, and criminal history; and signature of the social worker completing the form. Also included are clinical summaries; social service contact reports and notes. Records are restricted.

This series consists of record cards which summarize the background and prison disciplinary record of inmates of Clinton Correctional Facility (known earlier as Clinton Prison). Most cards include a front-facing and profile photograph of the inmate. Inmate numbers extend from 12879 (inmate received in 1914) to 39999 (inmate received in 1964), with gaps. These records were maintained pursuant to a law of 1929 requiring a daily record to be kept of punishments inflicted on prisoners and of complaints by prisoners.

This series consists of ledger accounts for appropriations received from the state. Cash Accounts have entries for state appropriations and prison sales on the debit side and entries to the credit of the prison, with monthly totals and running balances. Also included are separate accounts for Legislative appropriations such as prison enlargement, a new shoe shop, heating apparatus, exploration for iron on state lands, and books for the prison library. The accounts contain detailed entries for labor and supplies and give name of contractor, date of payment, and amount paid.

This series consists of a daily account of receipts and expenditures at Clinton prison. Receipts include state appropriations and returns due to overcharges. Expenditure entries include voucher number; payee; itemized account of goods or services furnished and total payment. Moneys were paid out for the monthly payroll, expenses of the prison, materials for the mining and manufacture of iron, transportation of convicts, and other expenditures.

This series consists of various records concerning inmate supervision including: weekly punishment reports; intradepartmental communications; memoranda and affidavits from internal investigations of alleged prisoner abuse; library statistics and reports; roll calls for prison employees; schedules for weekly assignments; case reports; Adjustment Committee minutes; employee suggestion forms; and employee reports suggesting psychiatric help for inmates; and prisoner protective custody requests, and messages from prisoners concerning potential disturbances. Information includes date; inmate name and activity (received, transferred, paroled, escaped, etc.). Also included are monthly cumulative totals of the inmate population activity. This series consists of a time book for prisoner labor in Company No. 6 in the iron ore separator at Clinton State Prison. Listed are the names and numbers of prisoners; their absence or presence each day; and the total number of days worked by each man and by all men for each month. At the end of each month's figures is usually a statement by the keeper that the figures are correct.

These photographs of Clinton Prison, mostly from 1932-1945, depict buildings and facilities, such as prison shop; barber shop; kitchen; mess hall; reservoir; athletic facilities; and hospitals. Also depicted are locations of accidents, assaults, suicides, and other special occurrences. Also included are prisoner art, prisoner identification documents, and aerial views circa 1969. Expenditures are listed for prison maintenance items such as food, utensils, and clothing, as well as for administrative items such as office supplies. Payments for guards and yard keepers also appear, as do expenses for the discharge of prisoners. Agents' reports, monthly compiled statistical accounts of expenditures, are found for some months.

The series is a daily account of financial transactions taking place at Auburn State Prison. Chapter 169 of the Laws of 1817 required the agent for each state prison to keep a regular and correct account of the monies received and disbursed. This daybook, or journal, is part of the agent's account for Auburn Prison.
