- Abstract
The series consists of brief memorandums from physicians to prison authorities usually recommending appropriate medical care or end of need for medical care for incarcerated patients that the physicians have examined. Many memorandums recommend that an incarcerated individual be mustered out of the military squad because of a medical problem. Memorandums include date, addressee, consecutive number, last name of the incarcerated individual, and physicians name and title. The name of physician is often omitted.

Most cards include a front-facing and profile photograph of the inmate. Inmate numbers extend from 12879 (inmate received in 1914) to 39999 (inmate received in 1964), with gaps. These records were maintained pursuant to a law of 1929 requiring a daily record to be kept of punishments inflicted on prisoners and of complaints by prisoners.

Expenditures are listed for prison maintenance items such as food, utensils, and clothing, as well as for administrative items such as office supplies. Payments for guards and yard keepers also appear, as do expenses for the discharge of prisoners. Agents' reports, monthly compiled statistical accounts of expenditures, are found for some months.
