From the peasant logic, part of the settlers in the Andradina Region produce beyond their needs; consequently, they transform part of the production into merchandise, in order to buy what they do not produce. By guaranteeing, through their daily struggle, the social existence in the land of work, the settled peasants generate virtuous dynamics, with the supply of food and the circulation of income on the local scale being all too significant. In this context, the paper analyzes the results of the implementation of rural settlements, either by the demand for goods and services, or by the participation and changes in local power relations. In the light of the theoretical framework, which understands the existence of the Brazilian agrarian question and considers the peasantry as a social class, the investigation was carried out in the methodological path of dialogue with theory, articulating it with data obtained in the countryside and in the city; oral sources and in loco information have guided the analysis of the development of rural settlements beyond the countryside. Therefore, the impulse given by the settlers to the demands for agricultural products, goods and services, and others, is evidence of the benefits that the democratization of land brings to the city as well. O este artigo trata do conhecimento da vida escolar em suas relações com as Artes e demais manifestações culturais nas quais a energia estética é predominante. Consideramos estas relações no panorama ampliado dos trânsitos dentro/fora escola/cidade. A escola na qual se deu a pesquisa se destaca tanto nas semelhanças quanto nas diferenças meio ao universo escolar e em sua singularidade nas relações com a cidade. Como tantas, porosa e receptiva a tudo que acontece na cidade mundo, a despeito de marcas precisas - pública e de uma cidade do interior - floresce em seus modos de fazer, modos de existência cotidiana absolutamente em sintonia com a atualidade das culturas juvenis. A proposta investigativa aplicada, pesquisa do e com os cotidianos escolares, evidencia seus protagonistas, os discentes e a dedicação de seus docentes, na invenção cotidiana da escola em seus fundamentais aspectos poéticos.

O ensaio se cria nas margens de um conjunto de artefatos culturais composto em caminhadas por uma metrópole costurada por rios, pontes, portas, ruas, gentes e histórias. Sonoridades, palavras e imagens são construídas em deslocamento pelo tecido urbano. O ensaio é o resultado do encontro do autor com uma profusão de textualidades. O texto desdobra três questões que colocam em cena indagações relativas à alteridade, aos processos de escrita e à vida dos rios. Sem produzir um fim, o ensaio deixa espaço para novas perguntas a serem tecidas por um corpo errante em caminhadas pelas cidades.

Resumo Neste artigo reflito sobre as ambivalências e as acomodações descritas por Ruth em seu cotidiano na Vila Gaúcha, em Porto Alegre, a partir de um percurso por fotografias familiares que entrelaçam narrativas sobre casa, maternidade, violência, vida e morte. Realizo este percurso em diálogo com os escritos de Carolina de Jesus (2007) e Conceição Evaristo (2016 e 2018), seguindo o caminho sugerido por Han e Das (2016) de olhar para as formas de vida enquanto linguagem de fabricação de mundos. Busco, portanto, descrever táticas de mediação e elaboração de formas de habitar o mundo e de produzir a casa entre eventos modelados por questões históricas atravessadas pela raça e pelo gênero - no caso, a produção da cidade, as dinâmicas impostas entre fixação e circulação na fabricação de corpos e lugares removíveis.

O trabalho tem como objetivo discutir a percepção da cidade moderna a partir da análise conjunta do texto Espelhos, de Walter Benjamin, e da crônica Brasília, de Clarice Lispector. No texto analisado, Walter Benjamin discorre a respeito da profusão de espelhos na cidade de Paris, relacionando sua presença a ilusões óticas acerca dos espaços citadinos. Para o filósofo, os espelhos funcionam como instrumento para que haja um completo abalo da percepção do indivíduo, através da dissolução dos limites entre o real e o ilusório e do aprofundamento dos espaços. As considerações de Benjamin em torno do objeto espelho vêm ao encontro de suas teorias sobre a modernidade e o choque, além de se relacionarem ao conceito de fantasmagoria, conforme proposto por Theodor Adorno. A cidade, um dos temas mais caros ao frankfurtiano, é tema de crônica de Clarice Lispector, Brasília, parte da coletânea Para não esquecer, em que a autora descreve, perplexa, suas impressões sobre o local. Carregado de negatividade, o texto Brasília se presta a análises benjaminianas, constituindo matéria exemplar para o estudo da percepção do indivíduo no contexto moderno e da predominância do aspecto imagético no ambiente urbano. Dessa forma, tanto o texto de Walter Benjamin quanto o de Clarice Lispector convergem para um entendimento da cidade a partir do olhar. O trabalho centra-se, assim, no exame desta temática no referido texto de Walter Benjamin, análise que será pontuada pelo estudo da crônica de Clarice Lispector.

Este ensaio tece uma série de comentários críticos sobre o romance Os lança-chamas (2013), da escritora estadunidense Rachel Kushner, com a intenção de explorar o modo como o enredo faz confluir a renovação da cidade de Nova York a partir dos anos 70 e o papel dos artistas plásticos no andamento do processo. Nossa hipótese interpretativa é a de que longe de ser fortuita, a escolha dos temas tangencia questões importantes do debate contemporâneo. Para isso, nos voltaremos para as reflexões de teóricos que pensaram as artes visuais em suas relações com os processos sociais, tais como os escritos de Peter Bürger e Pier Paolo Pasolini sobre as neovanguardas do final dos anos 60 e textos de David Harvey e Sharon Zukin sobre tendências recentes no campo do urbanismo.

Resumo A expressão “sertão carioca” associada à ruralidade da Zona Oeste do Rio de Janeiro vem consolidando-se como representação do avesso da cidade, às vezes como marca de resistência, mas também como o nome proposto pelo Estado para a gestão ambiental. Frente à expansão urbana, “sertão carioca” aparece como seu oposto simbólico e como uma possibilidade de preservação ambiental para purificar os excessos das perturbações urbanísticas. A partir do “olhar de Estado” exploro as contradições de uma agenda ambiental que se pensa na margem da cultura e se pauta por uma compreensão incompleta de experiências sociais que são simultaneamente urbanas e rurais. Reflito sobre os imaginários que carregam intervenções de cunho ambiental e agroflorestal, onde formas de imaginar a paisagem carregam por sua vez representações dos moradores que a habitam e para os quais se direcionam ações. Sob a sombra do adensamento urbano a equação população tradicional-unidades de conservação adquire nuances produtoras de novas subjetividades, para as quais as políticas de preservação ambiental estão desatentas.

Os escritos de Roland Barthes tiveram e continuam tendo um papel fundamental no pensamento de muitos intelectuais e escritores ao redor do mundo. Na América Latina não tem sido diferente. Na Argentina, uma de suas primeiras leitoras foi a escritora e crítica Beatriz Sarlo, que desde os anos de 1960 escreve sobre Barthes e “com” Barthes, ou seja, desenvolve seu pensamento sobre a literatura e a cultura argentinas tendo o escritor como uma de suas referências. Nesse sentido, A Cidade vista. Mercadorias e cultura urbana (2009), de Sarlo, apresenta-se como uma errância da escritora por Buenos Aires onde o incidente, noção central na concepção de escritura barthesiana, impõe-se sem dizer seu nome e possibilita a co-presença de uma cidade “vista” com uma “cidade escrita”. Isso se dá, em muitos momentos, a partir da observação de elementos da vida cotidiana que são, pouco a pouco, “desnaturalizados” por Sarlo, na execução de um movimento bastante devedor das Mitologias, aliás, evocadas no livro. Sarlo e Barthes se unem no momento da escrita e promovem não apenas a circulação dos textos, mas seu entrelaçamento em uma Buenos Aires vista e escrita, situada entre a França e a América Latina.

Este ensaio aborda, a partir das obras de Walter Benjamin (1892-1840) e Paul Virilio (1932-2018), o sistema complexo que configura a cidade e como este molda a vida cotidiana. A cidade é o centro de gravidade na reflexão de ambos os autores, que examinam as consequências da rápida industrialização e urbanização, do desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias e da emergência de uma cultura de massas. A primeira parte examina, a partir de Benjamin, a transformação da cidade moderna em uma mercadoria que esconde sua trama capitalista. A segunda parte apresenta a tese provocativa de Virilio sobre como a crescente aceleração e expansão dos meios tecnológicos de comunicação e informação transformou a experiência da vida cotidiana, que leva ao desaparecimento da ideia clássica da cidade.

A partir da segunda metade do século XX, na América Latina, a migração de pessoas para a cidade grande gerou uma superpopulação e espaços socioculturais heterogêneos, onde os habitantes têm diferentes modos de viver, representar e identificar-se com o espaço urbano. Nesta perspectiva, nosso objetivo é analisar a representação da cidade de Cali, Colômbia, no romance ¡Que viva la música! (1977), do escritor colombiano Andrés Caicedo, levando em consideração as expressões, sensações e socialização dos personagens em relação a cada um dos espaços da cidade. Em nossa análise, se evidenciou que o romance está marcado por uma “estética narrativa do deslocamento” que ocorre em vários níveis: geográfico (de Norte a Sul da cidade); do discurso dos personagens (fala cotidiana, expressões idiomáticas e coloquiais da classe alta à fala dos habitantes das áreas periféricas) e no gênero musical (do rock à salsa).

Abordamos as transformações dos ordenamentos do consumo a partir das mudanças ocorridas na passagem da cidade moderna para a pós-moderna. Temos como objetivo problematizar as inter-relações comunicação, consumo e cidade, à luz da noção de biopolítica, buscando evidenciar como emergem os modos de vida em cada um dos referidos momentos sócio-históricos. Para tanto, analisamos, a partir das representações teóricas do flâneur, do transeunte e do cidadão conectado global, os modos de vida e a constituição dos sujeitos. Essas reflexões permitem observar o engendramento das lógicas do capitalismo nos ordenamentos da vida, sobretudo na produção de subjetividades implicadas nas transformações da cidade.

This article is a reflection on the production of solid waste in the urban space of Tefé-AM, specifically in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima neighborhood, through an environmental approach, considering that a large production of waste by residents was diagnosed in the neighborhood, discarded in the inappropriate streets and places, causing socio-environmental impacts. In this way, an action was thought that could contribute to minimize such impacts. A project was designed with the objective of identifying the socio-environmental impacts and proposing to people the desire to participate in building citizenship and understanding the duties that everyone has with a better quality of life. The method used was analytical, within an empirical approach, where an informal conversation with the residents was possible, in addition to interviews with thirty of them, so that we could build the history of the neighborhood and understand their anxieties and desires. The residues were found around the houses, in the vacant lots, on the banks of the Igarapé Xidarini and under the bridges, being the main focus of solid residues found, both in the flood period and in the dry season. This study had the purpose of sensitizing the residents of the Nossa Senhora de Fátima neighborhood to seek values that lead to a harmonious coexistence with the environment and the other species that inhabit the planet, helping them to critically analyze the principles that have led to the inconsequential destruction of the natural resources and various species. It is fundamental that each one of the residents develop their potential and adopt personal postures and constructive social behaviors, collaborating for the construction of a just society and a healthy environment. The absence of geographical studies on the spaces of minorities, including the deaf, is a clear gap in the analysis of the current Brazilian city. This article aims to present some characteristics of the spatiality of the deaf over time through a literature review on the history of these individuals and the development of a brief historicization. Through this, it will be possible to understand that the deaf were long confined to their homes, deaf clubs, and schools, and in recent times, there has been a progressive effort to promote true inclusion of the deaf and hearing-impaired in the city. In the late twentieth century, the deaf community has been organizing and strengthening socially through accessibility and inclusion policies, which have become prominent in local, national, and international debates. Thus, the mobilization of this group for their rights is expressed on various fronts, including the demand to live in the city. Unlike the realities faced by the deaf in the past, where deafness was considered a disabling condition, exacerbating the social exclusion of this group, it is possible to understand, through the historical context presented, the pursuit of identification and overcoming the barriers that still exist in cities, hindering their mobility and impacting their freedom to move and pursue their desires. This article constitutes a segment of a doctoral research, with its central theme being the discussion of the city as an deficient space to meet the needs of deaf individuals in their multifaceted aspects. In this work we propose a discussion about classic authors of Brazilian social sciences: Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (1936), Gilberto Freyre (2003) and Roberto DaMatta (1997), with the aim of carrying out a historical and sociological interpretation of two genuinely Brazilian social types - the manezinho da Ilha and the malandro carioca - characters that are in the social imaginary of Brazilian culture. This essay intends to analyse the depiction of the fictionalized neighbourhood of Harlem in the late 50s and early 60s in Colson Whitehead's novel Harlem Shuffle (2021) and the significance of the theme of the city in this work of fiction. In order to do so, I will be analysing the novel's plot in relation to the presented social scale and its implication for an analysis of the increasingly capitalist society of that time, while also making reference to the concept of American Dream and an enquiry of the concept throughout the years, whilst exploring its meaning to the African American community as well. I will be also mentioning the meaning of the city for that community, considering it as both a space for oppression and for resistance and how that affects the construction of a collective cultural identity. This article analyzes En otro orden de cosas in light of the Benjaminian concept of "destructive character", that allows us to examine the way in which urban modernization is constituted as the central axis of Fogwill's novel. We argue that the peculiarity of this novel is that it focuses on the economic nature of urban transformation. In a text that concerns itself with the historical period 1971-1982 in Argentina, it is notable that it focuses its interest on the economic dimension to the detriment of the political. By prioritizing the urban highway construction project in the composition of the textual city, En otro orden de cosas dialogues with an interdiscursive plot that includes texts by urban planners, as is the case of La ciudad arterial (1970) by Guillermo Domingo Laura. The last few decades show a widespread tendency in western towns to an ever-decreasing use of public spaces by children. While from a psychological perspective, its negative consequences on children are widely known, in sociological terms, its eff ects on the city have been far less explored. However, if we start from the approaches that evaluate the success or failure of the city based on its capacity to include social diversity, the use of public space by children can be considered a refined indicator of how well or poorly it is performing. Based on this hypothesis and through a comparative study of two public spaces in the center of Madrid, this article reflects on the causes of the problem and the necessary responses to move towards healthier cities . This paper discusses how Norbert Elias's theoretical-methodological framework may help to think about the relation between child and city. It investigates, from a theoretical view -but also from some research results-, what is the influence of spatial dimension in the networks of interdependencies of children. In order to do so, three important aspects for this type of knowledge production are highlighted: the Eliasian theoretical-methodological construct based on social configurations; the implications of this construct to think research studies with children; and the implications of it to understand how diff erent children may live in such excluding cities, which are hierarchical and which produce inequalities. It is possible to conclude that this framework helps very much because it promotes a type of space comprehension as woven from diff erent gradients of power and status, and as an element that relates the positions children and their families hold in the neighborhood and the city configurations. Working theoretically on the idea of generation and the diversity of children's experiences in the public space is a challenge that has gained visibility in recent years. Centred, above all, on ideas such as the right to the city and the public space by different generational groups and the rights to participate in the construction and design of spaces suitable for different ages, the theoretical perspectives have highlighted children's competences in analysing, experiencing and living the public space. At the same time, the tensions and difficulties of these processes are discussed based on the Sociology of Childhood. The case study carried out in a kindergarten in Lisbon, during the school year of 2019/2020, wanted to characterize children's conceptions and experiences about the neighbourhood where they live, thus breaking the idea of exclusion of younger children about thinking about the city and the environments they live and experience, every day. The article seeks to reflect on the methodological aspects of research conducted with children in cities. It elects ethnographies on the move as a motto, revealing the virtues and pitfalls when the focus of the research is on the circulation and displacement of children. It argues for some powerful research techniques for the case of itinerant research with children. In ethnographies on the move, participant observation and floating observation are considered complementary, as are the categories of looking/seeing and listening/hearing. Movement can be analyzed through a direct or indirect experience of the researcher. Representations expressed through drawings and photographs are useful for exploring children's movement. The methods analyzed here are not classified as mobile because they serve to collect data on movement only, but because they also allow for data collection on movement and apprehend mobilities in their various manifestations. The recent pandemic outbreak warned of the urgent need for closer interaction between health and spatial planning. The relationship between urban space and health has been widely proven and led to the emergence of new concepts, such as neurourbanism, an interdisciplinary field of research that aims to explain the relationship between mental health and the well-being of city life. The embryonic state of these interdisciplinary research fields requires further contributions to their consolidation and guidelines for practitioners and policymakers. The main aim of this article is to contribute to the discussion through reflections on public spaces and urban health. A critical analysis was conducted to respond to the following specific objectives: 1) to highlight the importance of public space for the promotion of quality of life; 2) to reinforce the awareness that the urban environment affects mental health and well-being; 3) to propose an organisation of health impact factors (determinants of urban health) that works as a tool for objective health assessment and monitoring in cities and; 4) to reinforce work on the importance of neurourbanism as an interdisciplinary science that unites neuroscience and urban planning. Despite the empirical association between health (physical and mental) and the built environment recently demonstrated Covid-19 pandemic, scarce research and evidence-based recommendations have been produced towards healthier cities. The encounter between anthropology and history has a great potential for rewriting Brazilian history highlighting all social actors and the power relations at play. Moreover, this interdisciplinarity can put in evidence the persistent effects of colonialism in our current society. This article aims to show, even if in a summarized way, the trajectory of the approximation between anthropology and history and the possible results drawn from this encounter, as well as to trace methodologies to make indigenous history in the city. The urban environment poses particular challenges as we are faced with specific types of archive silences. In the field of urban studies, research on the history of planned cities has focused mainly on explaining the factors that led to the emergence of those cities; identifying the options underlying their urban design; as well as understanding the way in which the initial stages of their planning subsequently conditioned their social, economic, cultural and political dynamics. Less common, however, are the studies concerned with revealing the main influences and references that underpinned the urban planning options followed by the planners and visionaries of these new cities. This article, favoring a historicist approach based on archival research and literature review, demonstrates how, in the case of Pierre L'Enfant's 1791 Plan for Washington DC, it was deterministically influenced by his biography and the socio-political context in which he lived, but also by other urban planning exercises to whose sketches he had access or whose practical implementation he had the opportunity to know. Nessa pesquisa, os quilombolas Ana Paula Flores Vasconcelos (28 anos), João Batista da Costa Vasconcelos (52 anos), Geneci Lourdes Flores da Silva (43 anos) e Nara Maria de Mello Vasconcelos (59 anos) – do Quilombo Flores (Porto Alegre, RS) – expõem memórias de sua relação com o território. A família sofreu um ataque do Colégio Marista Assunção que, em 2014, construiu um estacionamento em uma área de usufruto da comunidade. A partir de um estudo acerca de quilombo, expansão urbana e memória, identifico categorias de pertencimento ao espaço habitado, zonas de conflito e elementos comuns à identidade quilombola.

Este ensaio propõe reflexões sobre o campo da narratividade enquanto instância da vida política das cidades a partir de uma pesquisa etnográfica realizada na comunidade do Monte Serrat, em Florianópolis. A partir da leitura e interpretação de narrativas produzidas e compartilhadas por pessoas e entidades com papel de mediação na comunidade, procuro discutir o gesto de narrar em associação com os modos de produzir o próprio território na cidade, sempre em um complexo campo de disputas com as representações hegemônicas da cidade sobre suas periferias.

O contínuo aumento da população urbana e a decorrente concentração de edifícios nas cidades têm causado aumento exponencial na geração de resíduos, consumo de energia e recursos naturais, impactando no aquecimento global. Para enfrentar esses problemas, a conferência das Nações Unidas sobre as mudanças climáticas de 2021 - COP 26, definiu metas para redução do efeito estufa, as quais poderão ser atingidas mediante a transdisciplinaridade entre Arquitetura, Computação, Eletrônica e Automação. O objetivo desse artigo é cotejar a aplicação de novas tecnologias na produção do espaço construído; assim como suas contribuições na sustentabilidade desses ambientes. Metodologicamente, elaborou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o tema, levantamento de exemplos nacionais e internacionais da aplicação de tecnologias, além de apresentar ferramentas computacionais que contribuíram tanto para o design quanto para o monitoramento de projetos. Dessa forma, pretende-se contribuir com o estudo dessas novas tendências: domótica, inmótica e urbótica, para a produção do espaço - arquitetura e cidade - inteligente e sustentável no século XXI.
