The title suggests that this article will continue on the subject addressed 10 years ago. The previous article was On a bishop who is inconvenient to those in power in Argentina--both the State and the Church. Despite the changes that have taken place in both spheres (the collapse of the military dictatorship after the 1983 elections, and changes in the episcopate and the judicial inquiry and elucidation of the circumstances of the murder of Bishop Angelelli), some people are denying Pope Francis' decision to recognise the martyrdom of the bishop and his collaborators (June 8, 2018). They see this beatification as inconvenient. The author of the presented study challenges these arguments, both from the canon-law perspective and in light of canonization practice. Due to the passage of time (the martyrs died in the Diocese of La Rioja in 1976) and the geographical separation (South America), he first provides their short biographies. Due to numerous untrue data and overinterpretations disseminated by the media as to the course of the beatification processes at the diocesan phase, the also tries to bring order to the basic facts. Concerned about the royal succession, the powerful King Rother follows the advice of his nobles and sends a group of envoys to the foreign country of King Constantine to seek the hand of his beautiful daughter. This article aims to discuss the concept of dangerous courtship as an intercultural contact scheme. It describes the relation between divergent communication practices and different forms of sovereignty. As a Middle High German text which does not address interculturality using the usual paradigms of demarcation (e.g. the interreligious dichotomy of Christians vs Heathens), König Rother reveals a broad spectrum of intercultural questions not yet discussed in the context of medieval narration. Pope Benedict XIV did not start a beatification procedures to sanctify Imelda Lambertini, though he had honoured this young nun (who died in 1333) when he was prelate. Within an event where the gaps are more numerous than the surviving documentation, 18th-century erudition inspired by Muratori represents a time of impasse in the cult of the blessed Imelda. This paper reconstructs the history of the failure to support the cult of a member of his family on the part of Benedict XIV (1675-1758), and is divided into three parts. First, we outline the events and documents allowing us to reconstruct the information that Benedict XIV attempted to collect about his family blessed; second, we trace the 17th and 18th century development of the cult of Imelda to identify the salient features of an image of potential sainthood and to contextualize the issue of devotion to the Eucharist, linked to the life of the blessed Imelda, within the debate over the Eucharist. The final section attempts to define the reasons for the doubts entertained by 18th-century culture over this hagiographic event to explain the motivations that may have induced Benedict XIV to abandon this possibility, in light of the close but also profoundly critical ties between the Bolognese Pope and his family and native city. The article reports on the beatification of the Ulma family, who were murdered by the Nazis in 1944. Józef and Wiktoria Ulma, along with their children, were executed for hiding eight Jews in their home. It also mentions the upcoming canonization of María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula, who will become Argentina's first saint in 2024. Mama Antula was a consecrated laywoman who promoted spiritual exercises in the poor regions of northeastern Argentina. Additionally, it highlights the beatification of twenty Sevillian martyrs who were killed during the Spanish Civil War and the beatification of Monsignor Eduardo Pironio, considered one of the "fathers of the Latin American Church." Teresa de Jesús, written by Diego de San José, is an outstanding evidence of the enthusiasm with which the Spanish people celebrated the announcement. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how the Compendio is more than a simple news pamphlet, so that, thanks to the account of some miracles and wonders that took place during the festivities, the carmelite father builds a propaganda literary space that clearly seeks to offer an image of Teresa of Jesus close to holiness, in order to pave the way for her future canonization.

According to Thomas Aquinas, a miracle had to surpass the whole of the created nature, which meant the visible and corporeal, as well as the invisible and incorporeal nature. Prospero Lambertini (1675–1758), the future Pope Benedict XIV, when he was promoter of the faith, noticed that it was impossible to distinguish a cure that occurred beyond the boundaries of incorporeal and invisible nature (the whole nature) from one that exceeded just corporeal and visible nature. The issue was of utmost importance since it risked delegitimizing the whole system of miracle verification. Consequently, Lambertini, in the fourth book of his magnum opus De servorum Dei beatificatione et beatorum canonizatione (On the Beatification of the Servants of God and the Canonization of the Blessed, 1734–1738), developed a new classification of miracles, which included the works of angels, with the aim of solving the problem. Furthermore, to counteract Spinoza's denial of miracles, he claimed that miracles were not contrary to the laws of nature.

The young Chicaba was captured on the African coast in a raid, to become later Sister Teresa Juliana of Santo Domingo at the Dominican convent of Salamanca. After her death in 1749, the Theatine Juan Carlos Miguel Paniauga (Pan y Agua) published the Compendium of Life in 1752. This first document was written with the intention of initiating the process of beatification of the nun at the local ecclesiastical authority, however, it fell into oblivion. It will not be until 1996 that the African Dominicans will re-propose the cause, which two years later obtained the support of the African bishops, and in 2002 all the documentation was sent to the Sacred Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The present study analyzes the bibliography on Teresa as the first African nun to write in Spanish, and examines the quality of her mystical writing, on the basis of her status as a slave, on her ethnic characteristics and, therefore, on the claim of an Afro-Catholic sanctity and a writing strongly influenced by African culture. The contribution intends to show how the writings of father Pan y Agua manipulate and distort the aspects relating to slavery to transfer them into the language of a penitential path, aimed from providence to spiritual salvation. In doing this, it distorts the canonical criteria of hagiographic writing and with this probably makes it more difficult - if this was his intention - to initiate a process of canonization.

Translation into Spanish of the first comments to the motu proprio Maiorem hac dilectionem is the startingpoint herein to propose some reflections on the New Way approved and enacted by Pope Francis regarding the beatification and canonization. Specifically, this work addresses the considerations concerning the proving criteria provided in Article 2 of the motu proprio, like the adverbial phrases "at least" and "short-term" and the expression "ordinary exercise of the virtues". These are open questions that the praxis of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints will defined and complete prudently and carefully, while examining the assumptions to be proposed by this New Way. Within the curtilage of Lincoln Cathedral lie buried the remains of three very different people to whom sainthood has been attributed: Saint Hugh, Bishop of Lincoln (d.1200); 'Little Saint Hugh' (d.1255), a child maliciously alleged to have been murdered by the local Jewish community; and Edward King (d.1910), Anglican Bishop of Lincoln. Hugh is a saint of the Catholic Church, commemorated by Catholics and Anglicans; 'Little Saint Hugh' was for a short while acclaimed by local people as a saint but never officially recognised as one; Edward King is commemorated by Anglicans but not formally recognised as a saint. The marked difference of approach to the attribution of sainthood between local Christians and Catholic Church authorities, as well as between Catholics and Anglicans, is illustrated by this case study, which raises important ecumenical questions: 'What makes a saint?’, ‘How are non-Catholics to regard the Roman Catholic procedure for beatification and canonisation?’, ‘To what extent can there be fully ecumenical calendars of local saints?’, ‘Does beatification offer a way forward by which Catholics may recognise the holiness of non-Catholic Christians?’ [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BEATIFICATION ,CANONIZATION ,CHURCH work with poor people - Abstract
Following the Second Vatican Council, the Latin American church was divided between those who favored a traditional ecclesial model and those who preferred a model centered on the church's option for the poor. Archbishop Oscar Romero evolved from a defender of the former model to a proponent of the latter. But due to a number of factors, his transformation received an unusual amount of international attention, making him the most recognized Latin American bishop of his time. Loved by the poor and despised by the powerful, he became a controversial figure. Following his death, his controversial legacy grew even more, especially when President Reagan chose to make El Salvador a showcase in his Cold War struggle against communism. Those who venerated Romero as a prophetic symbol of the type of church that Vatican II had called for hoped that he would eventually be declared a martyr and officially canonized by Rome. Episcopal traditionalists and political conservatives, however, saw the situation differently and blocked his canonization cause from going forward. Only later, Pope Francis, seeing the importance of Romero's legacy for his vision of a "poor church for the poor," intervened and Romero was beatified. A look back into Latin America's past can shed some light on the question: Why is it that so many Catholics, especially Catholic leaders, saw Oscar Romero so differently? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study was to show the need of a miracle in proving a canonization. We considered the subject of a miracle’s approval. Moreover, we studied the suggestions made by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints related to this topic. Then, we went through the procedures of canonization which was under a continuous development. In addition, we showed the miracle’s necessity and the requirements for its approval. The current procedure of canonization in the diocese and the Congregation’s requirements were presented in the final section. The value of the miracle’s evidence of proving the sanctity has been based on the legal text analysis made during the study.

Death seems still to be a taboo in contemporary society, and in Psychology as well. Crucial debates around the end of life are emerging in a variety of clinical, cultural, and philosophical realms in relation to the meaning of consciousness and near-death experiences. After the advent of quantum physics, the very notion of ‘evidence-based science’ has profoundly changed and new markers on the entanglements of matter and meaning are now available. The present contribution aims at questioning Psychology in its core empirical split between body and mind and at getting familiar with different thanatological perspectives, such as Eternalism. More specifically, it tries to address the epistemological and ontological entanglements in Psychology in order to propose an enlarged notion of mental life able to counter any neuroscientific reductionism. My arguments will be interrelated through the discussion of a case study about Santa Scorese, a young Catholic woman assassinated in Italy in 1991 by a stalker and in the process of beatification since 1998. Santa Scorese has been described as a unique example of martyr for women’s dignity of the present era and I am going to argue how she was passionately in love with God and with beauty while repressing her own body at the same time. The foci of analysis will be her original post-mortem published diary, her killer’s letters, and an interview I recorded with her sister (currently highly committed in the complex Catholic process of beatification).

Zachęca, by czerpać wzory do naśladowania ze świętych i błogosławionych. In his teaching, Pope Francis stresses the fact that the call to holiness is universal. As emphasized in his apostolic exhortation Gaudete et exsultate on the call to holiness in today’s world, sanctification can be gained through performing the ordinary daily duties of life. The pope refers to the saints “next-door,” that is, people who live among us and fulfil their duties with great love. He encourages us to follow the example of saints and the blessed and points to the “genius of woman” observable in “feminine styles of holiness, which constitute essential means of reflecting God’s holiness in this world.” The article is complemented by a characteristics of selected lay women who were beatified by the mandate of Pope Francis

Tereza Peltanová Studijní program: Německá a středoevropská studia Název práce: Beatified Gerhard Hirschfelder - the contribution of a religious figure to the creation of a transnational site of memory Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the origin and development of the cult of the German priest Gerhard Hirschfelder. In the 1930s he worked as a popular chaplain and youth pastor, first in the border village of Czermna and then in Bystrzyca Kłodzka. He disagreed with limiting the power of the Roman Catholic Church by national socialists. He paid for his attitude with his life in the Dachau concentration camp. After the end of the war, the original German and Czech population of the area of Kłodzko was expelled and replaced by Polish people. Since the late 1990s, Hirschfelder has been worshiped by all three nations. He was beatified in 2010. The thesis is a case study of a transnational site of memory (lieu de mémoire). It examines under what circumstances, thanks to which actors and in what form the cult of the German martyr arose on Polish territory. Based on that information, the thesis tries to deduce what symbolism the figure of the priest currently carries for individual national groups.

Spośród ponad 3,5 tysiąca męczenników i wyznawców dokonała wyboru kilkudziesięciu postaci czasowo najbliższych współczesnemu człowiekowi (z XX i XXI w.), aby ukazać walor eklezjalny (momentum ecclesiale) ich spraw. Alojzy Schwartz), różnorakim cierpieniem (Benedetta Bianchi Porro). Wśród czcigodnych sług Bożych, świętych i błogosławionych są twórcy dzieł służących ochronie zdrowia (św. Matka Teresa z Kalkuty, św. Maria Teresa Chiramel Mankidiyan, bł. ks. Luigi Novarese, bł. Matka Róża Czacka, Urszula Mezzini, bł. bp Álvaro del Portillo), lekarze (np. Mariano Mullerat i Soldevila) i pielęgniarki różnych specjalizacji (Hanna Chrzanowska), położne, pielęgniarz Luigi Bordino, studenci medycyny (np. bł. Sandra Sabattini), ochotniczki Czerwonego Krzyża (María Pilar Gullón Yturriaga, Octavia Iglesias Blanco, Olga Pérez-Monteserín Núñez), profesorowie medycyny (bł. José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, Jérôme Lejeune), pracujący w warunkach epidemii (bł. Irene Stefani, ks. Saturnino López Novoa i in.). Z zapałem wychodzili na peryferie, by nieść ulgę cierpiącym. W ich osobach Kościół świętuje „kreatywność chrześcijańskiego miłosierdzia”. The starting point of this article is Pope Francis’s teaching on the experience of illness, suffering and death in the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as his encouragement to follow the examples of saints and the blessed in these difficult times. The Author examines the following hypothesis: do the canonization processes, currently conducted by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, include figures who can inspire people experiencing illnesses and suffering? Does the Congregation conduct any canonization proceedings of doctors, nurses and medical personnel? The Author, in order to show the ecclesial value (momentum ecclesiale) of saints’ causes, has selected several dozen figures closest to the modern man (i.e. from the 20th and 21st centuries) from among more than 3,500 martyrs and believers. Using the dogmatic-legal and theological-legal methods, the Author shows that in the jurisprudence of the Congregation people can find numerous examples to follow, regardless of their age and state or whether they have been affected by incurable diseases (e.g. Blessed Carlo Acutis, Alexia González-Barros or Blessed Nunzio Sulprizio) or disabilities (e.g. Fr. Aloysius Schwartz), or experiencing any other suffering (e.g. Benedetta Bianchi Porro). Among the venerable, holy and blessed servants of God there are authors of works on protection of health (St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta, St. Mariam Thresia Chiramel Mankidiyan, Blessed Fr. Luigi Novarese, Blessed Mother Róża Czacka, Ursula Mezzini, Blessed bp. Álvaro del Portillo), doctors (e.g. Mariano Mullerat i Soldevila) and nurses of different specialties (Hanna Chrzanowska), midwives, the male nurse Luigi Bordino, medical students (e.g. Blessed Sandra Sabattini), Red Cross volunteers (María Pilar Gullón Yturriaga, Octavia Iglesias Blanco, Olga Pérez-Monteserín Núñez), professors of medicine (Blessed José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, Jérôme Lejeune), as well as people working during the pandemic (Blessed Irene Stefani, Fr. Saturnino López Novoa and others). They are regular modern people, merited in the field of science, candidates to the Peace Nobel Prize (Fr. Aloysius Schwartz) or their laureates (John Paul II, Mother Theresa). They are all distinguished by their deep faith and practicing virtues to a heroic degree, especially the virtues of hope, love and faith. These people were willing to cross peripheries to bring relief to the suffering, and the Church celebrates the “creativity of Christian charity” in them.

The process of the canonization and beatification of John Nepomucene Neumann began in 1886 in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Budweis. His canonization was completed in 1977. The study presents the as yet uncharted topic of the informative process in the Diocese of Budweis in 1886-1888, including a follow-up examination of John Nepomucene Neumann’s written estate in 1891 and other activities and events related to the Neumann’s process of beatification and canonization up to the beginning of the so-called Apostolic process in December 1896. This study seeks to describe in more detail the ecclesiastical legal process of the whole case; in addition to the context, it seeks to show in a broader horizon the so-called second life of John Nepomucene Neumann in the Diocese of Budweis, which was associated with the spread of his spiritual legacy.
