The Gangdese belt in Xizang has experienced both Jurassic subduction and Cenozoic continental collision processes, making it a globally renowned region for magmatic rocks and porphyry copper deposits. Numerous Jurassic intrusions have been identified in the belt. Apart from the quartz diorite porphyry in the large Xietongmen deposit, the Cu mineralization potential of other Jurassic intrusions in this belt remains unclear. This study presents zircon U–Pb dating and trace elements, apatite major and trace elements as well as published whole-rock geochemical and isotopic data of the Dongga tonalite in the central part of the Gangdese belt, aiming to reveal the petrogenesis, oxidation state, volatile content, and Cu mineralization potential of this intrusion. The Dongga tonalite has a zircon U–Pb age of 179.4 ± 0.9 Ma. It exhibits high whole-rock V/Sc values (8.76–14.6), relatively low apatite CeN/CeN* ratios (1.04–1.28), elevated zircon (Eu/Eu*)N values (an average of 0.44), high Ce4+/Ce3+ values (205–1896), and high ∆FMQ values (1.3–3.7), collectively suggesting a high magmatic oxygen fugacity. The Dongga tonalite features amphibole phenocrysts, relatively high whole-rock Sr/Y ratios (20.3–58.9), and lower zircon Ti temperatures (502–740 °C), reflecting a high magmatic water content. Estimation of magmatic sulfur content (0.002–0.024 wt%) based on apatite SO3 contents indicates an enriched magma sulfur content. Combined with previous studies and the collected Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes, the Dongga tonalite is derived from juvenile lower crust related with subduction of the NeoTethys oceanic slab. When compared with Xietongmen ore-bearing porphyries, the Dongga tonalite exhibits remarkable similarities with the Xietongmen ore-bearing porphyries in terms of magma source, tectonic background, magmatic redox state, and volatile components, which indicates that the Dongga tonalite has a high porphyry Cu mineralization potential, and therefore, provides important guidance for the future mineralization exploration. Among the various bone substitutes, carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) has received significant attention in the field of hard tissue regeneration due to its similarity in chemical composition to natural bone and its osteoconductivity and bioresorbability. This study aimed to develop a cost-effective method for fabricating porous CO3Ap blocks while maintaining a balance between porosity and mechanical properties. The level of interconnectivity in the porous structure was achieved by adjusting the pore volume fractions of the starting materials. The phase and microstructure characteristics of the porous CO3Ap blocks were assessed using techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The diametral tensile strength (DTS) of the blocks was determined using a universal testing machine. The results demonstrated that the mechanical strength of the blocks stayed within a range that was suitable for handling properties. In recent years, polyelectrolytes have been successfully used as an alternative to non-collagenous proteins to promote interfibrillar biomineralization, to reproduce the spatial intercalation of mineral phases among collagen fibrils, and to design bioinspired scaffolds for hard tissue regeneration. Herein, hybrid nanofibers were fabricated via electrospinning, by using a mixture of Poly ɛ-caprolactone (PCL) and cationic cellulose derivatives, i.e., cellulose-bearing imidazolium tosylate (CIMD). The obtained fibers were self-assembled with Sodium Alginate (SA) by polyelectrolyte interactions with CIMD onto the fiber surface and, then, treated with simulated body fluid (SBF) to promote the precipitation of calcium phosphate (CaP) deposits. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of SA and CaP, while SEM equipped with EDX analysis mapped the calcium phosphate constituent elements, estimating an average Ca/P ratio of about 1.33—falling in the range of biological apatites. Moreover, in vitro studies have confirmed the good response of mesenchymal cells (hMSCs) on biomineralized samples, since day 3, with a significant improvement in the presence of SA, due to the interaction of SA with CaP deposits. More interestingly, after a decay of metabolic activity on day 7, a relevant increase in cell proliferation can be recognized, in agreement with the beginning of the differentiation phase, confirmed by ALP results. Antibacterial tests performed by using different bacteria populations confirmed that nanofibers with an SA-CIMD complex show an optimal inhibitory response against S. mutans, S. aureus, and E. coli, with no significant decay due to the effect of CaP, in comparison with non-biomineralized controls. All these data suggest a promising use of these biomineralized fibers as bioinspired membranes with efficient antimicrobial and osteoconductive cues suitable to support bone healing/regeneration. In phosphorites, the content and distribution of rare earth elements are linked to the environment of phosphogenesis. This paper focuses on the question of sources and processes controlling the rare earth element content of apatite from Belgian phosphorites formed during three major phosphogenic events in the Lower Palaeozoic, Late Cretaceous and Cenozoic. To constrain sources and processes, new data include petrological, mineralogical (including cathodoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy) and in situ trace element and Sr and O isotope analyses of apatite. Fluorapatite from Lower Palaeozoic P‐rich conglomerates has the greatest rare earth element enrichment. It is affected by metamorphism that led to deformation of apatite nodules and formation of garnet porphyroblast inclusions. The role of Fe‐oxyhydroxides in element scavenging is highlighted by some apatite nodules that maintain their primary middle rare earth element enrichment, while others are characterized by altered rare earth element patterns resulting from competition for these elements between co‐crystallizing minerals during deformation. A systematic shift towards lower δ18O and radiogenic Sr isotopic composition compared to contemporaneous seawater indicate interaction with 18O‐depleted meteoric fluids and a crustal component. By contrast, carbonate‐rich fluorapatite from the Late Cretaceous phosphatic chalk mostly keeps its primary trace element and isotopic signatures (close to seawater), although an external rare earth element addition is noted, as well as rare earth element redistribution induced by diagenetic alteration. Cenozoic carbonate fluorapatite nodules mostly present flat rare earth element patterns that are indicative of a detrital influence. Slight changes in rare earth element distribution are assigned to post‐depositional alteration, which also led to an increase in radiogenic Sr, with unchanged δ18O compared to seawater. Fluorite-dominated rocks are occasionally found in association with carbonatites, but their geologic and petrologic relations are rarely reported. The Dunkeldyk area of the Pamir mountains in south-eastern Tajikistan contains dikes of distinctive rocks composed of calcite, fluorite, celestine-barite, sulfides, apatite, with minor quartz, biotite, and REE fluorcarbonates. The dikes have sharp contacts with the host (meta-)sedimentary rocks and layering with ribbons, ranging from fluorite-bearing calcite carbonatites to fluoritites (rocks with >50% fluorite). The fluoritites are characterized by high Ca, F, Ba, Sr, REE, and S coupled with anomalously low O. The geologic relations and textures suggest a magmatic origin of the dikes from melts close to calcite–fluorite eutectic that experienced nucleation-controlled differentiation during the crystallization of dikes and the formation of fluoritite cumulates in larger intrusions. The Dunkeldyk dikes demonstrate that sizable geological bodies of fluorite-dominated rocks could form from carbonate–fluoride melts originating from the differentiation of alkaline silicate magmas. Mafic layered intrusions constitute a natural laboratory to investigate petrogenetic processes using trace element variations in apatite chemistry. Although these intrusions are related to large igneous provinces, there is a wide range of parameters that can affect the chemistry of the primary melt (i.e. composition of the source, pressure, temperature, oxygen fugacity), followed by possible crustal contamination. In this study, we use a comprehensive dataset of analyses of cumulus and intercumulus apatite from a variety of mafic layered intrusions to demonstrate the use of apatite as a powerful petrogenetic indicator. The dataset (determined in this study and compiled from the literature) comprises electron microprobe and LA-ICP-MS analyses, as well as in-situ LA-MC-ICP-MS analyses of Sr isotopes in apatite from well documented layered intrusions (Sept-Iles, Skaergaard, Bushveld, Panzhihua) and the Sudbury Igneous Complex. For the first time, we show that high values of (La/Nd)N, Th, U, Pb, and As in apatite correlate with high (87Sr/86Sr)initial and are related to contamination with continental crust. An elevated (Gd/Yb)N ratio might indicate melting of a mantle source deep enough to retain Yb in garnet. We also confirm that increasingly negative Eu anomaly and decreasing Sr/Y ratio in apatite are indicators of fractional crystallisation of plagioclase, and that high Sr/Y is indicative of early saturation of apatite and/or delayed crystallisation of plagioclase. The reversal to more primitive compositions caused by magma mixing is expressed by higher Sr, V, Mg and Sr/Y ratio, and lower REE + Y, As and Na concentrations in apatite following magma replenishment. Lastly, we show that apatite signature can efficiently distinguish a mafic from a felsic intrusion using its REE and Sr content coupled to its Eu anomaly. It is also possible to further identify the more primitive from the more evolved parts of a mafic layered intrusion, using the Lu, Th, V and volatile (F/Cl) content to distinguish intercumulus from cumulus apatite, respectively. Apatite, as a common accessory mineral found in magmatic–hydrothermal deposits, effectively yields geochemical insights that facilitate our understanding of the mineralization process. In this research, multiple generations of magmatic and hydrothermal apatite were observed in the Hongshan porphyry–skarn Cu–Mo deposit in the Yidun Terrane in SW China. The geochemical compositions of the apatite were studied using in situ laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and an electron probe microanalysis to understand the magmatic–hydrothermal processes leading to ore formation. The apatite (Ap1a) occurs as subhedral to euhedral inclusions hosted in the phenocrysts of the granite porphyry. The Ap1b occurs later than Ap1a in a fine-grained matrix that intersects the earlier phenocrysts. Increases in F/Cl, F/OH, and F/S and decreases in ΣREE and (La/Yb)N from Ap1a to Ap1b suggest the exsolution of a volatile-rich phase from the magma. The skarn hosts three types of hydrothermal apatite (Ap2a, Ap2b, and Ap3), marking the prograde, retrograde, and quartz–sulfide stages of mineralization, respectively. The elemental behaviors of hydrothermal apatite, including the changes in Cl, Eu, As, and REE, were utilized to reflect evolutions in salinity, pH, oxygen fugacity, and fluid compositions. The composition of Ap2a, which occurs as inclusions within garnet, indicates the presence of an early acidic magmatic fluid with high salinity and oxygen fugacity at the prograde skarn stage. The composition of Ap2b, formed by the coupled dissolution-reprecipitation of Ap2a, indicates the presence of a retrograde fluid that is characterized by lower salinity, higher pH, and a significant decrease in oxygen fugacity compared to the prograde fluid. The Ap3 coexists with quartz and sulfide minerals. Based on studies of Ap3, the fluids in the quartz–sulfide stage exhibit relatively reducing conditions, thereby accelerating the precipitation of copper and iron sulfides. A series of Mo-polymetallic deposits have been developed in the Jiaodong Peninsula. Notably, these Mo-dominant deposits formed essentially during the same period as the well-known world-class Au deposits in this area, hinting at a potentially unique geological correlation between them. Therefore, conducting thorough research on Mo deposits in Jiaodong holds significant importance in exploring the area's controlling factors of Mesozoic metal endowments. To reveal the petrogenesis and metallogenic potentials of Mo-fertile and ore-barren granitoid, apatite grains from the Late Aptian Nansu granodiorite and Aishan monzogranite are investigated in this study. Detailed petrographical observations, combined with in situ analysis of electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) and Laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), have been conducted on apatite grains from the Nansu and Aishan plutons. This comprehensive analysis, encompassing both major and trace elements as well as isotopic characteristics of apatite, aims to elucidate the metallogenic differences within the late Early Cretaceous granitoids of Jiaodong. The results reveal that the apatite grains across all samples belong to fluorapatites, suggesting their magmatic origin. Additionally, chondrite-normalized rare earth element (REE) patterns of apatites in ore-fertile and ore-barren granitoids exhibit a "right-leaning" trend, characterized by relative enrichments in light REEs and depletions in heavy REEs. Both the Nansu and Aishan plutons exhibit moderately negative Eu anomalies (with averages δEu values of 0.44 and 0.51, respectively), along with slightly positive Ce anomalies (averaging δCe values of 1.08 and 1.11, respectively). A negative correlation is observed between their δEu and δCe values, indicating that the parental magmas of ore-fertile and ore-barren granitoids were formed in a relatively oxidizing environment. The calculated apatite OH contents for the Nansu pluton range from 0.26 to 1.38, while those for the Aishan pluton vary between 0.24 and 1.51, indicating comparable melt H2O abundances. Consequently, the results suggest that neither the oxygen fugacities nor the water contents of the parental magma can account for the metallogenic differences between Nansu and Aishan plutons. The apatite in the Nansu pluton exhibits a higher Ce/Pb ratio and a relatively lower Th/U ratio, indicating the involvement of a greater volume of fluids in the magmatic evolution process of this ore-bearing granitoid. Apatite grains sourced from the Nansu and Aishan plutons exhibit εNd(t) values ranging from −16.63 to −17.61 (t = 115.7 Ma) and −17.86 to −20.86 (t = 116.8 Ma), respectively. These results suggest that their parental magmas primarily originated from the partial melting of Precambrian metamorphic basement rocks within the North China Craton, with a minor contribution from mantle-derived materials. Additionally, the presence of mafic microgranular enclaves in both the Nansu and Aishan plutons indicates that both have undergone magma mixing processes. The binary diagrams plotting the ratios of Ba/Th, Sr/Th, and U/Th against La/Sm demonstrate that apatite grains of ore-fertile granitoid exhibit a distinct trend towards sediment melting. This suggests the potential incorporation of sedimentary materials, particularly those rich in molybdenum, into the magmatic source of the Nansu pluton, ultimately leading to the occurrence of molybdenum mineralization. Biodegradable porous poly(ε-caprolactone)-poly(trimethylene carbonate)-poly(ε-caprolactone) triblock copolymers (PCL-b-PTMC-b-PCL) were synthesized by sequentεial polymerization of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) and ε-caprolactone (CL), and novel composites of PCL-b-PTMC-b-PCL with different amounts of nano-apatite (nAp) were prepared. This PTMC-based polymer matrix, which does not degrade into acidic compounds, together with the nanometer-sized apatite, which influences cell behavior, is an ideal bone regenerative material. Solvent casting these composites from chloroform solutions yielded solid films with excellent handling properties. The E-modulus of the nano-composite materials increases with nAp content, while toughness, tensile strength and elongation at break decrease. Using EC as solvent, porous composite films of PCL-b-PTMC-b-PCL and nAp could readily be prepared. The composites in EC were processed into form-stable designed tissue engineering scaffolds by 3D printing at relatively mild conditions. Besides the pore network structure with pores of 530 to 620 μm which corresponded to the design, smaller pores of 5–30 μm (due to EC crystallization) and even smaller ones of 200–500 nm (resulting from liquid-liquid exchange upon extraction of the solvent in the polymer rich phase) were observed in the printed composite scaffolds. The rare-earth elements (REEs) have gained enormous economic and scientific attention due to their distinct properties and new applications. Nepheline syenite rock is an important primary source of rare earth minerals. The nepheline syenite rocks from the Rairakhol area, western Odisha, have been characterized for their rare earth mineralogical and textural characteristics. Preliminary beneficiation studies of these rocks were carried out to upgrade the REE values using falcon gravity separation and floatation technique. Hornblende, biotite, K-feldspar, albite, and nepheline are the major mineral constituents of the nepheline syenite where REE-bearing minerals occur as accessory minerals. The REE mineral phases present are zircon, sphene, apatite, allanite, britholite, and REE phosphate, with grain sizes ranging from 10 to 50 microns. Allanite and britholite occupy the intergranular spaces of major mineral phases and occur as thin lines or veins whereas sphene and zircon occur as inclusions within major mineral phases. The flotation study shows that the total REE content of the froth product could be enriched to 1696 ppm, which is three times more than the total REE content (563 ppm) of the feed sample. Kiruna-type iron oxide-apatite (IOA) and iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits are commonly spatially and temporally associated with one another and coeval host magmatism. The Zanjan area in the Tarom-Hashtjin metallogenic province (THMP) in NW Iran hosts several iron oxide deposits that exhibit a close spatial and temporal relationship with Upper Eocene granitoids. Here, using fluid inclusion, mineralogy, and hydrothermal alteration data from the Chore-Nab iron oxide deposit in combination with other deposits, a new genetic model is developed to explain the formation of the iron oxide mineralization. Furthermore, evidence of an IOA-IOCG transition ore system (IO ± A) in this province is presented. The Chore-Nab orebodies have undergone sodic (albite) alteration associated with an early mineralization stage followed by calcic-sodic (actinolite-rich) alteration related to the formation of a second mineralization stage. The process was finally completed by late veinlets of chalcopyrite, which are related to potassic alteration. Fluid inclusion data show that the initial oreforming fluids (liquid-vapor- and liquid-vapor-solid)-type inclusions of disseminated ore) have an average temperature and salinity of 403 °C, 14.2 wt.% NaCl equiv., and 371 °C, 44.9 wt.% NaCl equiv., respectively. The temperature and salinity of fluids decreased to an average of 277 °C and 8.9 wt.% NaCl equiv. during the formation of magnetite and magnetite-actinolite veins (LV-type inclusions). Subsequently, the values dropped to an average of 266 °C and 5.3 wt.% NaCl equiv. from late chalcopyrite veinlets (LV-type inclusions). These temperature and salinity values indicate a magmatic-hydrothermal ore system. Dilution and cooling of the hot magmatic-hydrothermal metalliferous fluid by mixing with meteoric fluids may have been the main mechanisms responsible for the deposition of metals transported as metal chloride complexes. A decrease in temperature and apatite content, as well as an increase in Cu content is observed from southeastern Sorkhe-Dizaj deposit (massive magnetite + apatite) to the northwest Chore-Nab deposit in the Zanjan area. The dominant element association in the Chore-Nab deposit (Fe) differs from IOCG (Fe-Cu-Au) and IOA (Fe-P) deposits. These results reveal that IOA deposits (e.g., Sorkhe-Dizaj) were formed along deep-seated crustal faults and ascending fluids, which transported Fe and minor Cu to intermediate levels of the system. Therefore, magnetite and sulfides precipitated to form the Chore-Nab IO ± A deposit. This model explains the transition of IOA-IOCG deposits within the same area, providing a valuable conceptual framework to define further exploration strategies in the Tarom-Hashtjin metallogenic province and elsewhere. We report on the primary and secondary mineralogies of three coarse‐grained igneous calcium‐aluminum‐rich inclusions (CAIs) (Compact Type A [CTA], Type B [B], and forsterite‐bearing type B [FoB]) from the Northwest Africa (NWA) 5343 (CK3.7) and NWA 4964 (CK3.8) carbonaceous chondrites, compare them with the mineralogy of igneous CAIs from the Allende (CV3.6) chondrite, and discuss the nature of the alteration processes that affected the CK and CV CAIs. The primary mineralogy and mineral chemistry of the CK3 CAIs studied are similar to those from Allende; however, primary melilite and anorthite are nearly completely absent. Although the secondary minerals identified in CK CAIs (Al‐diopside, andradite, Cl‐apatite, clintonite, forsterite, ferroan olivine, Fe,Ni‐sulfides, grossular, ilmenite, magnetite, plagioclase, spinel, titanite, and wadalite) occur also in the Allende CAIs, there are several important differences: (i) In addition to melilite and anorthite, which are nearly completely replaced by secondary minerals, the alteration of CK CAIs also affected high‐Ti pyroxenes (fassaite and grossmanite) characterized by high Ti3+/Ti4+ ratio and spinel. These pyroxenes are corroded and crosscut by veins of Fe‐ and Ti‐bearing grossular, Fe‐bearing Al,Ti‐diopside, titanite, and ilmenite. Spinel is corroded by Fe‐bearing Al‐diopside and grossular. (ii) The secondary mineral assemblages of grossular + monticellite and grossular + wollastonite, commonly observed in the Allende CAIs, are absent; the Fe‐bearing grossular + Fe‐bearing Al‐diopside ± Fe,Mg‐spinel, Fe‐bearing grossular + Fe,Mg‐olivine ± Fe,Mg‐spinel, and Ca,Na‐plagioclase + Fe‐bearing Al‐diopside + Fe‐bearing grossular assemblages are present instead. These mineral assemblages are often crosscut by veins of Fe‐bearing Al‐diopside, Fe,Mg‐olivine, Fe,Mg‐spinel, and Ca,Na‐plagioclase. The coarse‐grained secondary grossular and Al‐diopside often show multilayered chemical zoning with distinct compositional boundaries between the layers; the abundances of Fe and Ti typically increase toward the grain edges. (iv) Sodium‐rich secondary minerals, nepheline and sodalite, commonly observed in the peripheral portions of the Allende CAIs, are absent; Ca,Na‐plagioclase is present instead. We conclude that coarse‐grained igneous CAIs from CK3.7–3.8 s and Allende experienced an open‐system multistage metasomatic alteration in the presence of an aqueous solution–infiltration metasomatism. This process resulted in localized mobilization of all major rock‐forming elements: Si, Ca, Al, Ti, Mg, Fe, Mn, Na, K, and Cl. In this work, a comprehensive physicochemical analysis of a promising bismuth-sodium-oxoapatite obtained by solid-state method was conducted using X-ray and spectroscopic methods. The true composition of the compound can be described by the formula Ca 7.8 BiNa 0.8 (PO 4) 5.4 O 1.6 , with the non-stoichiometry attributed to the formation of secondary phases that are absent in the final substance due to their melting during the synthesis. The refinement of the crystal structure showed that sodium ions are located in the 4 f position, while bismuth ions occupy the 6 h position. An IR spectroscopic analysis provided independent confirmation of the compositional group of the substance under study, in particular, the absence of pyrophosphate and hydroxyl groups. A comprehensive study of the phase stability of the substance in water, phosphate buffer, and trypsin revealed no changes in the phase and elemental composition of the material for up to 24 h. The standard MTT test demonstrated the absence of cytotoxicity of the compound. In experiments with S. aureus and E. coli cultures, the apatite under investigation did not exhibit any antibacterial activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Jiama deposit, a significant porphyry‐skarn‐type copper polymetallic deposit located within the Gangdese metallogenic belt in Tibet, China, exemplifies a typical porphyry metallogenic system. However, the mineral chemistry of its accessory minerals remains under‐examined, posing challenges for resource assessment and ore prospecting. Utilizing electron microprobe analysis and LA‐ICP‐MS analysis, this study investigated the geochemical characteristics of apatite in ore‐bearing granite and monzogranite porphyries, as well as granodiorite, quartz diorite, and dark diorite porphyries in the deposit. It also delved into the diagenetic and metallogenic information from these geochemical signatures. Key findings include: (1) The SiO2 content, rare earth element (REE) contents, and REE partition coefficients of apatite indicate that the dark diorite porphyry possibly does not share a cogenetic magma source with the other four types of porphyries; (2) the volatile F and Cl contents in apatite, along with their ratio, indicate the Jiama deposit, formed in a collisional setting, demonstrates lower Cl/F ratios in apatite than the same type of deposits formed in a subduction environment; (3) compared to non‐ore‐bearing rock bodies in other deposits formed in a collisional setting, apatite in the Jiama deposit exhibits lower Ce and Ga contents. This might indicate that rock bodies in the Jiama deposit have higher oxygen fugacity. Nevertheless, the marginal variation in oxygen fugacity between ore‐bearing and non‐ore‐bearing rock bodies within the deposit suggests oxygen fugacity may not serve as the decisive factor in the ore‐hosting potential of rock bodies in the Jiama deposit. Xiazhuang uranium ore field, located in the southern part of the Nanling Metallogenic Belt, is considered one of the largest granite‐related U regions in South China. In this paper, we contribute new apatite fission track data and thermal history modeling to constrain the exhumation history and evaluate preservation potential of the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field. Nine Triassic outcrop granite samples collected from different locations of Xiazhuang Uranium ore field yield AFT ages ranging from 43 to 24 Ma with similar mean confined fission track lengths ranging from 11.8 ± 2.0 to 12.9 ± 1.9 μm and Dpar values between 1.01 and 1.51 μm. The robustness time‐temperature reconstructions of samples from the hanging wall of Huangpi fault show that the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field experienced a time of monotonous and slow cooling starting from middle Paleocene to middle Miocene (∼60–10 Ma), followed by relatively rapid exhumation in the late Miocene (∼10–5 Ma) and nearly thermal stability in the Pliocene–Quaternary (∼5–0 Ma). The amount of exhumation after U mineralization since the Middle Paleogene was estimated as ∼4.3 ± 1.8 km according to the integrated thermal history model. Previous studies indicate that the ore‐forming ages of U deposits in the Xiazhuang ore field are mainly before Middle Paleocene and the mineralization depths are more than 4.4 ± 1.2 km. The Devonian Rudniy intrusion is a composite magmatic body comprising two gabbroid units. Located in the Tsagaan-Shuvuut ridge in NW Mongolia, it is the only one known to contain disseminated sulfide Ni-Cu-PGE minerals out of numerous gabbroid intrusions surrounding the Tuva depression. The ore occurs as disseminated sulfide globules made of pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chalcopyrite, and cubanite, confined to a narrow troctolitic layer at the margins of a melanogabbro, at the contact with a previously emplaced leucogabbro. Globules generally display mantle-dominated sulfur isotopic signatures but show variable metallogenic and mineralogical characteristics, as well as notably different sizes and morphologies reflecting variable cooling and crystallization regimes in different parts of the intrusion. Sulfides from the chilled margin of the melanogabbro are surrounded and intergrown with volatile-rich (i.e., CO2-, H2O-, F-, and Cl) phases such as calcite, chlorite, mica, amphibole, and apatite. Based on the mineralogical and textural relationships of volatile-rich phases with sulfides, we argue that this assemblage represents the product of the crystallization of volatile-rich carbonate melt immiscible with both silicate and sulfide liquids. We put forward the hypothesis that volatile-rich carbonate melt envelops sulfide droplets facilitating their transport in magmatic conduits and that this process may be more widespread than commonly thought. The smaller sulfide globules, which are interpreted to derive from the breakup of larger globules during transport and emplacement, do not display an association with volatile-rich phases, suggesting that the original carbonate melt could have been detached from them during the evolution of the magmatic system. Variable rates of crystallization may have been responsible for the observed disparities in the mineralogical and metallogenic characteristics of different sulfide globules entrained in the Rudniy intrusion. Iron oxide–apatite (IOA or Kiruna-type) deposits typically consist of a magnetite-apatite-actinolite/diopside assemblage and are spatially associated with extensive Na-(Ca) alteration and brecciation. The origin of these deposits is highly controversial and has been ascribed to the separation of iron-oxide/sulfate-(carbonate) melts, magnetite emulsions, or metasomatic replacement by aqueous fluids from silicate magmas. Here, we propose a new model based on the findings from a cluster of IOA deposits located in the early Cretaceous Ningwu andesitic volcanic field, eastern China. In these deposits, magnetite coeval with apatite and actinolite occurs as coarse-grained veins, massive replacement, and fine-grained disseminations in the albitized, often brecciated, apical zones of diorite porphyry intrusions, the overlying andesites, and adjacent sedimentary rocks. The primary magnetite grains from ores with various textures contain similar and variable trace element compositions with up to 5 wt% Ti + V and show the characteristics of high-temperature hydrothermal magnetite in magmatic-hydrothermal systems. Diopside and garnet as well as magnetite contain fluid inclusions with multiple daughter minerals (vapor + halite + sylvite ± anhydrite ± iron chloride ± liquid ± hematite), which show extremely high salinities of more than ~ 90 wt% NaClequiv, homogenization temperatures of 745–846 °C, and Cl/Br mole ratios of 2000–6000. In combination with oxygen isotopes of the magnetite-apatite assemblage and the association with shallow-seated ore-hosting porphyry, available evidence suggests that these deposits formed from hydrosaline liquid exsolved from subvolcanic dioritic magmas with high Cl/H2O at magmatic temperatures (~ 800 °C). Decompression from lithostatic to hydrostatic condition and the interaction with country rocks explain the abundance of breccia bodies and widespread sodic alteration in IOA deposits. In this paper, we applied two kinds of knowledge-driven methods, one using the fuzzy logic and another using geometric average to evaluate 3D mineral prospectivity for Sansong district, Yongyu apatite deposit, in the Phyongnam Basin, DPR Korea. Based on the ore geology studies of apatite deposits and the available spatial datasets in the study area, we used four independent evidential maps for 3D apatite deposit prospectivity modeling. They include (1) carbonatite, (2) biotite gneiss, (3) granitic gneiss, and (4) P2O5 values from the borehole data. The evidential factors were modeled into 3D space, and 3D P2O5 values from the borehole data were transformed into continuous values of the [0, 1] range using logistic sigmoid. In 3D MPM just as 2D MPM, it is very economic and efficient to simultaneously apply the fuzzy logic and geometric average methods for mineral prospectivity modeling of the study area because two predictive models can use the same fuzzification methodology based on fuzzy membership function. Our strategy is to fuzzify the evidential maps before applying the geometric average as well as in the fuzzy logic. The results for the two predictive models were validated by the prediction efficiency method. The results demonstrated that most of the validation data were distributed in voxels with high prospectivity values. Although the validation results were slightly worse than those in 2D MPM case study, our case studies suggested that both predictive models and their modeling results are useful for evaluating 3D prospectivity of apatite deposits in Sansong district, Yongyu apatite deposit, DPR Korea. Bone regeneration using synthetic materials has a high rate of surgical site infection, resulting in severe pain for patients and often requiring revision surgery. We propose Ag3PO4-based surface modification and structural control of scaffolds for preventing infections in bone regeneration. We demonstrated the differences in toxicity and antibacterial activity between in vitro and in vivo studies and determined the optimal silver content in terms of overall anti-infection effects, bone regeneration, toxicity, and pigmentation. A honeycomb structure comprising osteoconductive and resorbable carbonate apatite (CAp) was used as the base scaffold. CAp in the scaffold surface was partially replaced with different concentrations of Ag3PO4 via controlled dissolution-precipitation reactions in an AgNO3 solution. Both bone regeneration and infection prevention were achieved at 860–2300 ppm of silver. Despite the absence of Ag3PO4, honeycomb scaffolds were less susceptible to infection, even under conditions where infection occurs in clinically used three-dimensional porous scaffolds. Regardless of in vitro cytotoxicity at >5200 ppm of silver, increasing the silver content to 21,000 ppm did not adversely affect in vivo bone formation and scaffold resorption or cause acute systemic toxicity. Rather, bone formation was enhanced with 5200 ppm of silver. However, pigmentation was observed at that concentration. Hence, we concluded that the optimal silver concentration range is 860–2300 ppm for anti-infective and pigmentation-free bone regeneration. Bone regeneration was achieved via surface modification, resulting in the rapid release of silver ions immediately after implantation, followed by gradual release over several months. The scaffold structure may also aid in preventing bacterial growth within the scaffolds.

The growing need of rare earth elements in different sectors of the modern-day world has led to their increasing demand, which is in accordance with their limited supply. In such a scenario, investigations related to search for potential zones of rare earths have become the need of the hour. In one such investigation, undertaken by Geological Survey of India, the authors report profuse intrusion of the apatite veins into the syenite-pyroxenite suite in the eastern part of the Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt (EGMB) in Nayagarh area of eastern Odisha. These apatite veins are anomalously rich in REEs, particularly LREEs, which on average ranges between 37,000 to 53,000 ppm. Rare earths and apatite are generally directly proportional, where apatites tend to carry sufficient REE budget, depending on the phosphorous fugacity and other ambient conditions inducing their genesis. The major-oxide chemistry of apatite veins indicates that apatites in the study area can be divided into two types based on SiO2 wt.% and their inverse relationship with P2O5 and CaO wt.%. Mineral chemistry data shows overall SiO2 depletion, with dominance of CaO, followed by P2O5. Apatite veins, as per mineral chemistry, contain numerous veinlets (identified microscopically), where one type is REE-bearing and another type is REE-free. The REE-bearing phases are rich in Ce, Nd, La and Pr and are represented by allanite, monazite, and bastnaesite. Thorite and zircon are prevalent. Earlier instances of apatite intrusions into granulite have been reported from parts of south India. On the contrary, in this area, the intrusion is typically restricted to the younger intrusive units of the EGMB, represented by syenite-pyroxenite suite. The intrusives also show moderately high values of REEs. In this paper, an attempt has been made to characterize the apatite veins and the syenite-pyroxenite suite, they have intruded, in respect to their mineralogy and tectonics and to elucidate the potentiality of the area in terms of future REE exploration.

Abstract Significant and readily accessible orogenic gold deposits have been previously recognized, exploited, and progressively depleted. Innovative approaches are required to discover new and deeply buried deposits. Recently, trace element variations in apatite have been used to distinguish fertile and barren environments as reliable mineral exploration tools. In this study, machine learning models using Random Forest and Deep Neutral Network are utilized to assess the fertility of quartz veins and altered zones in the orogenic gold systems. The two models have been trained using trace element data of apatite, and the performance of both models yield good classification accuracy (∼90% on average) with low false positive rates. Feature importance analysis (Gini decrease and hidden layer weights) suggest that Pb, As, U, Sr, Eu, Mn, and Fe are the important parameters. Arsenic, U, Eu, Mn, and Fe are redox‐sensitive elements, with their concentrations responding to changes in fluid redox conditions. Strontium primarily originates from the breakdown of plagioclase, which is more likely to occur under oxidizing fluid conditions. Therefore, we infer that the main controlling factor of the models is the redox conditions. The two distinct models consistently highlight the most significant contribution of Pb to this differentiation, even though Pb is not a redox‐sensitive element and can only substitute for Ca2+ in apatite as Pb2+. We infer that the high contribution of Pb may be attributed to the potential transportation of Au in the form of a Pb‐(Bi)‐Au melt, and the Pb content in apatite is influenced by the Pb content in the melt, fluid oxygen, and sulfur fugacity. We also propose a novel discriminant plot using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) to assess the mineralization potential in quartz veins and alteration zones based on apatite trace element data. The machine learning and LDA results suggest that apatite trace elements could be used effectively in the future orogenic gold deposit exploration.

BackgroundThe search for an ideal bone substitute in reconstructive surgery has led to the exploration of various materials, with hydroxyapatite (HaP) emerging as a promising candidate due to its biocompatibility, osteoconductive properties, and structural similarity to human bone. Despite its potential, there is a paucity of data on the long-term safety and efficacy of HaP in facial skeletal reconstruction and augmentation.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, searching PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, CENTRAL, and Web of Science databases for studies on hydroxyapatite facial implants in reconstruction and augmentation.ResultsOur search yielded 12 studies that met our inclusion criteria, encompassing 74 patients treated with HaP implants for various indications including facial fractures/defects, aesthetic facial balancing, and after tumor resection. The studies reported on outcomes such as implant integration, complications, aesthetic results, and patient satisfaction, with a general trend indicating positive outcomes for the use of HaP in facial reconstruction.ConclusionHydroxyapatite appears to be a viable and effective material for facial skeletal reconstruction and augmentation, offering benefits in terms of biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, and patient outcomes. However, limitations such as low mechanical strength and the need for further research on long-term safety and efficacy were identified. This review underscores the potential of HaP in craniofacial surgery while highlighting areas for future investigation.

Apatites, being one of the most numerous mineral-like families of compounds, are considered as a matrix for binding lead ions, which is dangerous for the biosphere. The crystal-chemical (composition, structure) and thermophysical aspects (thermal expansion) are considered as the basis for analysing the properties of this kind of material. It is suggested that substances of the composition Pb5(AIVO4)2(BVIO4), Pb5(AIVO4)(CVO4)2 can be a perspective form of lead binding materials based on compounds with the structure of apatite (AIV = Si, Ge; BVI = S, Cr; CV = P). Such compounds, as it was shown by DTA and HTXRD experiments, are distinguished by the absence of polymerphism and the abnormal ordering of structure. Also, they have relatively low values of thermophysical indicators (the rate of change of linear thermal expansion coefficients is 0.02–0.03×106 K-1; values of the volume thermal expansion coefficients are 40–70×106 K-1). Compounds Pb5(SiO4)(PO4)2 (a = 9.78782(16) Å, c = 7.31084(16) Å, V = 606.555(23) Å3, R-bragg = 4.694 %) and Pb5(GeO4)(PO4)2 (a = 9.87697(12) Å, c = 7.33136(11) Å, V = 619.388(17) Å3, R-bragg = 1.730 %) were obtained, identified and crystallographically characterised for the first time.

Development of new non‐toxic pigments of a wide range of applications (from coloring of bone cements to aesthetic cosmetology, including tattooing) of blue and green shades is an urgent task. In the present work, colored compounds with apatite structure were synthesized by solid‐phase method. The obtained products were crystallized in hexagonal syngony of P63/m space group. The alloying elements – chromophores Mn5+ and Cr5+ in tetrahedrally coordinated positions – were responsible for sky‐blue and turquoise colors of the compounds, respectively. The conducted complex study (crystal structure, IR spectroscopy, color measurements, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, cytotoxicity, surface morphology) of the colored compounds opens new opportunities for the development of alternative pigments of similar color range and expansion of the field of application of pigments based on compounds of apatite structural type. Apatite, as an accessory phase in igneous and metamorphic rocks, has important petrological significance due to its capacity to accommodate appreciable amounts of many trace elements in its mineral structure. To better constrain trace element partitioning between apatite and silicate melts, we conducted experiments that produced apatites approaching fluorapatite (FlAp), hydroxylapatite (OHAp) and chlorapatite (ClAp) endmembers separately at 1050 and 1100 °C, 1 GPa pressure, under oxygen fugacity (f O 2) about one log unit below iron-wüstite buffer to four log unit above fayalite-magnetite-quartz buffer. We report the results of 12 experiments which demonstrate that ClAp exhibits lower trace element partition coefficients compared with FlAp and OHAp, especially for Rare Earth Elements (REEs) under all run conditions explored, suggesting trace element partitioning is sensitive to anion site occupancy. Divalent cations are less sensitive to anion occupancy. Positive Eu partitioning anomalies (DEu/DEu*, where Eu is the chondrite normalized abundance and Eu* is the interpolated value from neighboring elements ordered by atomic number) are observed in ClAp experiments under relatively low f O 2 s, whereas negative Eu anomalies are exhibited by FlAp and OHAp under the same f O 2 conditions. We infer that anionic occupancies have a direct impact on the substitution mechanisms of trace elements in apatite, thereby influencing their partition coefficients. Beyond the anions, correlations of apatite compositional components (X Ca , X Na , X P and X Si ) with partition coefficients suggest they exert crystal chemical controls on trace element partitioning. Based on these observations, we developed parameterized lattice strain models to predict the partitioning of divalent and trivalent elements as a function of temperature and apatite composition, and an f O 2 -dependent apatite-melt Eu partitioning model and oxybarometer. We further developed a Eu in apatite-plagioclase oxybarometer that enables us to calculate the f O 2 of apatite and plagioclase-bearing magmatic and subsolidus systems, and evaluated the influence of subsolidus reequilibration on the new oxybarometer. Applied to one of our experiments, winonaite HaH193, and samples from Sept Iles layered intrusion, the oxybarometer recovers their anticipated f O 2 s, ranging from about two log units below the iron-wüstite buffer to the fayalite-magnetite-quartz buffer. Using the new REE and f O 2 -dependent Eu partitioning models, we constrained the petrogenesis of lunar KREEP basalt and estimated the relative volatile content in the late lunar magma ocean (LMO) cumulates. The model suggests a relative depletion of Cl in the LMO cumulates, consistent with Cl isotopic analyses and volatile abundance measurements in previous work, suggesting that differential loss of volatiles occurred before or during the late-stage evolution of the LMO. In order to enhance the degree of binding reaction of TiO2 in titanium-containing ceramic glazes and prevent the reaction of its transformation into rutile to eliminate the yellowing phenomenon of the glaze surface, an apatite–TiO2 composite opacifier (ATO) was prepared through the mechanical grinding of hydroxyapatite and anatase TiO2. The properties, opacification mechanism, and yellowing inhibition of the prepared ceramic glazes were studied. The results show that the ATO is characterized by a uniform coating of TiO2 on the surface of the apatite and the formation of close chemical bonding between the apatite and TiO2. The ceramic glaze surface when using an ATO has a white appearance and excellent opacification performance. When an ATO was used, the L*, a*, and b* values of the glaze were 89.99, −0.85, and 3.37, respectively, which were comparable to those of a ZrSiO4 glaze (L*, a*, and b* were 88.24, −0.02, and 2.29, respectively). The opacification of the glaze was slightly lower than that of the TiO2 glaze (L* value was 92.13), but the appearance changed from yellow to the white of the TiO2 glaze (b* value was 9.18). The ceramic glaze layer when using an ATO mainly consists of titanite, glass phase, and a small amount of quartz, and the opacification mechanism is the crystallization of the generated titanite. Mantle rocks usually contain rare earth elements (REEs) in very low concentrations. Here, we document an occurrence of monazite associated with REE-rich apatites in a carbonate-bearing wehrlite xenolith from central Vietnam. The xenolith displays an equigranular matrix of rounded olivine grains while texturally primary orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and spinel are notably absent. Scattered within the olivine matrix, two types of domains are present: domain-I contains blocky clinopyroxene grains within a matrix of quenched silicate melt and is associated with a second generation of olivine, small euhedral spinel, and rare grains of carbonates. Domain-II contains irregularly shaped patches of carbonate associated with silicate glass, secondary olivine, spinel, and clinopyroxene. Monazite and apatite occur only in domain-I: very small rounded to elongate monazite I grains are included in primary olivine, partly crosscut by fine glass veinlets, monazite II as large grains up to 300 × 200 μm in size and monazite III as small euhedral and needle-like crystals in silicate glass pools. Apatite I forms lath-shaped to rounded crystals up to 200 × 50 μm in size, whereas apatite II is present within silicate melt pools where it forms euhedral needle-like to equant grains. Monazites show compositional variation mainly with respect to ∑REE2O3 (63–69 wt %) and ThO2 (1.1–5.3 wt %) and only minor variations in P2O5 (29–32 wt %), SiO2 (<0.05–0.4 wt %), and CaO (0.2–0.4 wt %). Apatites are characterized by strongly variable and high REE2O3 and SiO2 contents (4–27 wt % ∑REE2O3, 0.6–6.8 wt % SiO2) as well as with significant Na2O (0.3–1.5 wt %), FeO (0.1–1.8 wt %), MgO (0.2–0.6 wt %) and SrO (0.2–0.9 wt %) contents. F and Cl contents are in the range 1.9–3.0 wt % and 0.2–0.8 wt %, respectively. The textures observed in this wehrlite xenolith are thought to be the result of an interaction of depleted (harzburgitic) mantle with cogenetic silicate and carbonatite melts formed by fractionation-driven immiscibility within a parental SiO2 undersaturated melt characterized by high P, CO2, and REE contents. The immiscibility occurred in the shallow subcontinental lithosphere at T of 700–800 °C and a depth of ~30 km and the melt–rock interaction occurred in two successive and most likely nearly simultaneous events: an initial stage of metasomatism was triggered by the P-REE-CO2-rich agent with low aH2O resulting in the co-precipitation of carbonates as patches and along micro-veins and of phosphates in a peridotitic assemblage. A second stage is characterized by pervasive infiltration of an alkali-rich basaltic melt into the carbonate + phosphate-bearing assemblage. Based on 232Th and 208Pb contents of monazite, a young age of ~2 Ma can be calculated for the timing of the monazite-forming metasomatic imprint. Based on 39Ar-40Ar extrusion ages of the xenolith-hosting alkali basalts of 2.6–5.4 Ma, this indicates that both carbonatite and basaltic melt infiltration must have occurred no more than a few hundred thousand years before extraction of the xenolith to the surface. In the biomedical field, nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite is still one of the most attractive candidates as a bone substitute material due to its analogies with native bone mineral features regarding chemical composition, bioactivity and osteoconductivity. Ion substitution and low crystallinity are also fundamental characteristics of bone apatite, making it metastable, bioresorbable and reactive. In the present work, biomimetic apatite and apatite/chitosan composites were produced by dissolution–precipitation synthesis, using mussel shells as a calcium biogenic source. With an eye on possible bone reconstruction and drug delivery applications, apatite/chitosan composites were loaded with strontium ranelate, an antiosteoporotic drug. Due to the metastability and temperature sensitivity of the produced composites, sintering could be carried out by conventional methods, and therefore, cold sintering was selected for the densification of the materials. The composites were consolidated up to ~90% relative density by applying a uniaxial pressure up to 1.5 GPa at room temperature for 10 min. Both the synthesised powders and cold-sintered samples were characterised from a physical and chemical point of view to demonstrate the effective production of biomimetic apatite/chitosan composites from mussel shells and exclude possible structural changes after sintering. Preliminary in vitro tests were also performed, which revealed a sustained release of strontium ranelate for about 19 days and no cytotoxicity towards human osteoblastic-like cells (MG63) exposed up to 72 h to the drug-containing composite extract. Rare Earth Elements (REE) phosphates (monazite, xenotime, and rhabdophane) are critical REE-bearing minerals typically formed in hydrothermal and magmatic ore deposits. The thermodynamic properties of those REE minerals are crucial to understanding the solubility, speciation, and transport of REE complexes. However, the standard-state Gibbs free energy of formation (∆G°f) values reported for these minerals in the literature vary by up to 25 kJ mol−1. Here, we present linear free energy relationships that allow the evaluation and estimation of the ∆G°f values at 25 °C and 1 bar for the three minerals from the ionic radius (rREE3+) and the non-solvation Gibbs free energy contribution to the REE3+ aqua ion (∆G°n, REE3+): ∆G°f,monazite − 399.71 rREE3+ = 1.0059 ∆G°n,REE3+ − 2522.51; ∆G°f,xenotime − 344.08 rREE3+ = 0.9909 ∆G°n,REE3+ − 2451.53; and ∆G°f,rhabdophane − 416.17 rREE3+ = 1.0067 ∆G°n, REE3+ − 2688.86. Near the Segura pluton, hyper-differentiated magmas enriched in F, P, and Li migrated through shallowly dipping fractures, which were sub-perpendicular to the schistosity of the host Neoproterozoic to Lower Cambrian metasedimentary series, to form two swarms of low-plunging aplite–pegmatite dykes. The high enrichment factors for the fluxing elements (F, P, and Li) compared with peraluminous granites are of the order of 1.5 to 5 and are a consequence of the extraction of low-viscosity magma from the crystallising melt. With magmatic differentiation, increased P and Li activity yielded the crystallisation of the primary amblygonite–montebrasite series and Fe-Mn phosphates. The high activity of sodium during the formation of the albite–topaz assemblage in pegmatites led to the replacement of the primary phosphates by lacroixite. The influx of external, post-magmatic, and Ca-Sr-rich hydrothermal fluids replaced the initial Li-Na phosphates with phosphates of the goyazite–crandallite series and was followed by apatite formation. The Lysan alkaline–ultramafic complex is located in the Sisim shear zone at the contact of the two largest tectonic structures of the accretion–collisional belt in the southwestern frame of the Siberian craton. Intrusions of the complex consist of ore-bearing olivinites, kaersutite clinopyroxenites, and banded kaersutite gabbro, which have been «cut» by albitite dykes and veins. The veins and veinlets of the carbonate rocks are mainly associated with the albitites. The present paper represents the first detailed mineralogical study of carbonate rocks and albitites in the Podlysansky Massif of the Neoproterozoic Lysan alkaline–ultramafic complex. The mineral composition was determined in situ in a polished section by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and electron probe microanalysis. The carbonate rocks of the Podlysan Massif have been found to contain minerals that are typical of siderite–carbonatites (senso stricto), including calcite, siderite, phengitic muscovite, apatite, monazite, REE fluorocarbonates, pyrite, and sphalerite. These rocks are enriched in light rare earth elements due to the presence of monazite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(Ce), parisite-(Ce), and synchysite-(Ce). The albitites were formed as a result of the fenitization of leucocratic gabbro by alkali-rich carbo-hydrothermal fluids in zones of intense development of tectonic fractures. Infiltration was the dominant mechanism of fenitization. The obtained data significantly enhance the current understanding of the geochemical and ore specialization of rocks in the Lysan Complex. Diamondiferous kimberlites occur in the Wafangdian area in the eastern part of the North China Craton (NCC). In order to better constrain their magmatic source and emplacement time, we have investigated apatite from two kimberlites, i.e., the #110 dike kimberlite and the #50 root-zone kimberlite by measuring in situ their U–Pb and Sr–Nd isotopic compositions. The crystallization ages of the #110 and #50 apatites are 460.9 ± 16.8 Ma and 455.4 ± 19.3 Ma, respectively. For the #50 apatite, 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70453–0.70613 and εNd(t) = −2.74 to −4.52. For the #110 apatite, 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70394–0.70478 and εNd(t) = −3.46 to −5.65. Based on the similar distribution patterns of the rare earth elements (REEs) and the similar Sr-Nd isotope compositions of the apatite, it is believed that the #110 and #50 kimberlites have the same source region and the kimberlite magmas in Wafangdian were derived from an enriched mantle source (EMI). The primary magmatic composition has little effect on the emplacement pattern. It is more likely that the geological environment played an important role in controlling the retention and removal of volatile components (H2O and CO2). This led to the different evolutionary paths of the kimberlite magma in the later period, resulting in differences in the major element compositions of the apatite. High Sr concentrations may be associated with hydrothermal (H2O-rich fluid) overprinting events in the later magmatic period; the higher light rare earth element (LREE) concentration of the #50 apatite reflects the involvement of the REE3+ + SiO44− ⇔ Ca2+ + PO43− replacement mechanism. The Xiangho Zng district is the largest low-temperature W-Au-Sb metallogenic area in the world. The Darongxi skarn W deposit in the north of the Xiangzhong district is closely related to biotite monzonite granite, muscovite monzonite granite, and felsophyre, but the nature of granitic magma and its relationship with mineralization is relatively weak. In this paper, U-Pb dating, Lu-Hf isotope, the in situ composition of zircon, and the apatite of biotite monzonite granite, muscovite monzonite granite, and felsophyre in the Darongxi mining area are systematically studied, and the formation age, magma property and source, and their relationship with mineralization are discussed. The values of zircon U-Pb age and the εHf(t) of biotite monzonite granite are 222.2 ± 0.54 Ma and −2.9~−6.4, respectively. The values of zircon U-Pb age and the εHf(t) of muscovite monzonite granite are 220.8 ± 0.58 Ma and −2.7 to −8.1, respectively. The values of zircon U-Pb age and the εHf(t) of felsophyre are 222.3 ± 2.20 Ma and −2.2~−5.4, respectively. Magmatic apatite grains from biotite monzonite granite and muscovite monzonite granite show distinctive core–rim and oscillatory zoning textures in CL images, and demonstrate a bright yellow in colorful CL images. The magmatic apatite has a total rare earth concentration (3766~4627 ppm), exhibiting right-inclined nomorlized rare earth element patterns and obvious negative Eu anomalies. The geochemical data of magmatic zircon and apatite indicate that magma sources are responsible for these intrusions in the Darongxi mining area, mainly derived from the partial melting of the Mesoproterozoic crust, which is rich in W; the magma is rich in F and poor in Cl (F = 2.4~3.3 wt%, Cl = 0.0024~0.0502 wt%). The oxygen fugacity of magmatic zircon (ΔFMQAVG = −4.02~−0.26), the high negative Eu anomaly (δEu = 0.06~0.12) and the low positive Ce anomaly (δCe = 1.09~1.13) of magmatic apatite, and the occurrence of ilmenite all indicate that the redox condition of magma from the Darongxi mining area is reduced. The Fukang Sag in the Junggar Basin is an important petroleum exploration and exploitation region. However, the geothermal regime and tectono-thermal evolution of the Fukang Sag, which control its hydrocarbon generation and conservation, are still controversial. This study involved a systematic analysis of the present-day geothermal gradient, heat flow, and thermal history of the Fukang Sag for better further exploration. According to the well log data and well-testing temperature data, we calculated that the geothermal gradient of the Fukang Sag ranges from 16.6 °C/km to 29.6 °C/km, with an average of 20.8 °C/km, and the heat flow ranges from 34.6 mWm−2 to 64.3 mWm−2, with an average of 44.6 mWm−2. Due to the basement relief, they decrease from northeast to southwest. The weight averages of the single-grain apatite (U-Th)/He ages of the core samples are 1.3–85.2 Ma, and their apatite fission track ages range from 50.9 Ma to 193.8 Ma. The thermal modeling results revealed that the Fukang Sag experienced late Permian, late Jurassic, and late Cretaceous cooling events (although the timing and magnitude of these events varied among the samples), which were related to the continuous compression of the Junggar Basin. In addition, basin modeling indicated that the heat flow of the Fukang Sag decreased from 80 mWm−2 in the Carboniferous to the current value of 44.6 mWm−2. The Fukang Sag's edge exhibits prolific hydrocarbon generation in the Carboniferous–Permian source rocks, while the Jurassic source rocks within the sag also undergo abundant hydrocarbon generation. This study provides new insights into the present-day geothermal field and tectono-thermal evolutionary history of the Fukang Sag, which are significant in terms of regional tectonic evolution and oil and gas resource assessment. In-situ dating of the zircons, titanites, and apatites in the rock fragments of approximately 1 cm2 in size from the Acasta Gneiss Complex was performed using secondary ion mass spectrometry or laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry to provide constraints on the thermal history of the Acasta Gneiss Complex. The zircons in these rock fragments typically exhibit multiple age populations, reflecting the presence of inherited zircons or the post-crystallization process of zircon overgrowth. Combined with previous studies, our zircon dating results reveal multiple magmatic events that occurred in the Acasta Gneiss Complex, specifically at >3.96, ∼3.72, and ∼3.57 Ga, respectively. A titanite Pb-Pb isochron age of 2911±22 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=1.5) for sample AY199 is identified, consistent with the timing of the latest Archean magmatism in the Acasta Gneiss Complex. The titanite U-Pb ages for samples AC478 and AY066 are 1932±270 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=2.3) and 1813±45 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=2.3), respectively. The apatites in sample P090803-C exhibit a Pb-Pb isochron age of 1833±26 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=1.4). The apatite U-Pb ages for samples AC478, AY199, and AY066 are 1850±20 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=1.3), 1827±100 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=6.3), and 1807±58 Ma (95% confidence level, MSWD=3.9), respectively. Titanites in samples AC478 and AY066, as well as the apatites in all four investigated samples, show a uniform age (Pb-Pb or U-Pb age) of ∼1.9–1.8 Ga, indicating U-Pb system reset in these minerals due to the Wopmay orogeny and documenting that the peak temperature condition associated with the Wopmay orogeny exceeded the apatite U-Pb closure temperature and approached or exceeded that of titanite. The Yingen–Ejina Basin (YEB) located in the western part of the North China Plate is a significant area for petroleum exploration. During the Early Cretaceous, the YEB witnessed the extensive development of source rocks. However, the subsequent tectonic evolution and multi‐stage thermal history of these source rocks have posed challenges to oil and gas exploration in the basin. This study focuses on the Mesozoic and Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the YEB, utilizing Apatite fission track (AFT) and vitrinite reflectance (Ro) data of samples from Well BC‐1 in the Suhongtu Depression, northern YEB. The central ages of six AFT samples ranged from 28 ± 2 to 49 ± 3 Ma with corresponding track lengths between 10.8 ± 1.9 and 12.3 ± 1.5 μm. Combining with the study of Ro and thermal history simulation, the thermal history of the YEB is summarized as follows: In the late Early Cretaceous, the study area experienced tectonic elevation, as evidenced by the discontinuous change in Ro values along the vertical column. Towards the end of the Late Cretaceous, there was a subsidence in the study area. The Ro data indicate that the Early Cretaceous source rocks, although experiencing several tectonic uplifts, had remained within the hydrocarbon generation temperature range, and reached the maximum thermal uplifts before the end of the Late Cretaceous. Therefore, hydrocarbon generation from early Cretaceous source rocks is an important exploration target in the study area and will be the focus of oil and gas exploration in the future. Proterozoic anorthosite massifs can host significant amounts of critical and strategic metals such as Ti, V, and P, associated with magmatic Fe-Ti oxides and apatite. Yet their petrogenesis is much less understood than Fe-Ti-V-P deposits hosted in layered intrusions within large igneous provinces. Several mineralized lenses of Fe-Ti-P outcrop near the border of the 1080 (±2) Ma Vanel and the 1016 (±2) Ma Mattawa Anorthosite Massifs, in the Central Grenville Province, Quebec, Canada. For example, the Lac à l'Orignal Fe-Ti-P deposit, hosted in the Vanel Anorthosite near the northern border of the Mattawa Anorthosite, comprises a lenticular structure of oxide apatite norite (OAN) with thin layers of apatite-bearing anorthosite and minor amounts of nelsonite (massive Fe-Ti oxides and apatite), indicating accumulation by density differences. Oxide settling generated the melanocratic OAN cumulates and nelsonite. Plagioclase flotation generated the leucocratic apatite-bearing anorthosite layers. The mineralization is dominated by hemo-ilmenite, accompanied by apatite and a minor amount of magnetite at the borders, whereas the core is dominated by ilmenite, magnetite, and apatite. In-situ U-Pb dating of magmatic zircon indicates that the Lac à l'Orignal deposit is a multistage intrusion with two different crystallization ages between the younger core (993 ± 13 Ma) and the older upper border (1069 ± 12 Ma) of the intrusion. These ages are similar to those of nearby anorthosite-massifs (Mattawa and Vanel Anorthosites, respectively). In-situ trace element analysis of plagioclase, apatite and oxides, by laser ablation ICP-MS, reveals subtle variations in certain trace elements (e.g., Cr, Ni, V) related to differentiation under relatively high-fO2 conditions (FMQ = +0.9 to +1.7). Calculated melt compositions from apatite indicate a similar parental magma for both the border and core that matches the composition of high-Fe-Ti-P ferrodiorite dykes at Lac à l'Original. This high-Ti-P ferrodiorite magma was probably residual after anorthosite formation. Sub-solidus inter-oxide equilibration modified the original composition of the different cumulates in the intrusion. The absence of extensive massive oxide cumulates and the presence of higher amounts of cumulus magnetite and apatite, supported by mineral chemistry, denotes a more evolved character for the Lac à l'Orignal deposit compared with other Fe-Ti-(P) deposits in the Grenville Province (e.g., Lac Tio Fe-Ti and Grader intrusion Fe-Ti-P deposits in the Havre St. Pierre Anorthosite, eastern Quebec). Petrogenetically, the Lac à l'Orignal Fe-Ti-P deposit corresponds to an evolved part of a low-Ti/Fe system in the Grenville Province in the late stages of differentiation of ferrodiorite/jotunite magmas. The newly developed mineral carbonated apatite has recently been proposed as a bone graft material for bone regenerative treatment in implant therapy. This case series details the clinical and radiographic outcomes of ridge preservation and ridge augmentation using only carbonated apatite as bone graft material for implant treatment. Twenty patients (36 sites) who required bone regeneration and implant placement were retrospectively assessed. Simultaneous carbonated apatite implant placement was performed using the simultaneous ridge preservation or augmentation approach on 24 sites in 13 patients with sufficient bone quantity for primary stabilization based on preoperative evaluation results. A staged ridge preservation or augmentation approach was used for the remaining 12 sites in seven patients with insufficient bone quantity. The mean regenerated bone height for each treatment method was as follows: simultaneous preservation, 7.4 ± 3.3 mm; simultaneous augmentation, 3.6 ± 2.3 mm; staged preservation, 7.2 ± 4.5 mm; and staged augmentation, 6.1 ± 2.7 mm. The mean regenerated bone width for each treatment method was as follows: simultaneous preservation, 6.5 ± 2.9 mm; simultaneous augmentation, 3.3 ± 2.5 mm; staged preservation, 5.5 ± 1.7 mm; and staged augmentation, 3.5 ± 1.9 mm. Ca‐phosphates in Campo del Cielo (CdC) and Nantan were comprehensively studied to provide insights into the thermal histories of the IAB main group (MG) and related irons. In CdC, apatite grains are characterized by (a) close intergrowth with troilite/graphite in border area between silicate and metal in most cases and (b) near‐flat rare earth elemental patterns (LaN/YbN = 0.6–0.7). This indicates they were formed during a metal‐silicate mixing event at a relatively high temperature. Combining with petrographic textures, we suggest that the replacement of high‐Ca pyroxene by low‐Ca pyroxene at ∼950–1,000°C could release Ca and facilitate the formation of apatite grains. In the Nantan nodule, Ca‐phosphates do not share a similar origin with those in CdC, as indicated by their different mineral chemistries and mineral associations. Ca‐phosphates and associated silicates could crystallize from a P‐C‐S‐rich metallic melt with the oxidation of lithophile elements. Combining all analyses from CdC and Nantan yielded a SIMS Pb‐Pb isochron age of 4,558 ± 56 Ma. Considering that all the IAB‐MG irons experienced a rapid high‐temperature cooling process, the age of 4,558 ± 56 Ma provides another line of evidence that the parent body of IAB‐MG and related irons experienced metal‐silicate mixing in first 50 Myr of solar system. The previously reported Ar‐Ar ages of ≤4.47 Ga could be related to the late reheating process(es). The degrees of late shock heating may vary from specimen to specimen. In this study, we have formulated a novel apatite bone cements derived from natural sources (i.e. eggshell and fishbone) with improved qualities that is, porosity, resorbability, biological activity, and so forth. The naturally‐derived apatite bone cement (i.e. FBDEAp) was prepared by mixing hydroxyapatite (synthesized from fishbone) and tricalcium phosphate (synthesized from eggshell) as a solid phase with a liquid phase (a dilute acidic blend of cement binding accelerator and biopolymers like gelatin and chitosan) with polysorbate (as liquid porogen) to get a desired bone cement paste. The prepared cement paste sets within the clinically acceptable setting time (≤20 min), easily injectable (>85%) through hands and exhibits physiological pH stability (7.3–7.4). The pure apatite phased bone cement was confirmed by x‐ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses. The FBDEAp bone cement possesses acceptable compressive strength (i.e. 5–7 MPa) within trabecular bone range and is resorbable up to 28% in simulated body fluid solution within 12 weeks of incubation at physiological conditions. The FBDEAp is macroporous in nature (average pore size ~50–400 μm) with interconnected pores verified by SEM and micro‐CT analyses. The FBDEAp showed significantly increased MG63 cell viability (>125% after 72 h), cell adhesion, proliferation, and key osteogenic genes expression levels (up to 5–13 folds) compared to the synthetically derived, synthetic and eggshell derived as well as synthetic and fishbone derived bone cements. Synchrotron X–ray fluorescence microtomography can non-destructively image the three-dimensional distribution of several trace elements in whole apatite crystals at the scale of one µm3. This allows for precise determination of the physical geometry of a crystal and the quantification of the relative abundance of the radioactive parent nuclides uranium and thorium, with high fidelity. We use this data to develop a more precise alpha ejection correction for (U–Th)/He thermochronology and high-resolution models of apatite crystals that are the foundation for a new generation of three-dimensional diffusion modeling. The application of synchrotron radiation to non-destructive imaging of minerals used for geochronology sheds light on causes of longstanding unresolved problems in the field that are rooted in previously unmeasurable parent nuclide zonation, especially the pervasive overdispersion of single crystal ages.
