Context Swertia mussotii Franch. (Gentianaceae) is a source of the traditional Tibetan medicine, ZangYinChen, and is used to treat chronic hepatitis and many types of jaundice.Objective This study explored the therapeutic effects and mechanism of S. mussotii on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in diet-induced hypercholesterolaemia.Materials and methods After a week of adaptive feeding, 32 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: (1) Control, (2) Control-S, (3) Model, and (4) Model-S. During the 12 experimental weeks, we established the Model using a high-fat diet. Control-S and Model-S were given 1.0 g/kg S. mussotii water extract via gavage starting in the fifth week until the end of experiment.Results When compared with Model rats, the S. mussotii water extract led to a reduction in high-density lipoproteins (43.9%) and albumin (13.9%) and a decrease in total cholesterol (54.0%), triglyceride (45.6%), low-density lipoproteins (8.6%), aspartate aminotransferase (11.0%), alanine aminotransferase (15.5%), alkaline phosphatase (19.1%), total protein (6.4%), and glucose (20.8%) in serum. A reduction in three cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNFα) was detected. Histopathological examination showed that liver steatosis was significantly relieved in S. mussotii-treated high-fat diet rats. S. mussotii also caused a downregulation in the expression of TLR4 (43.2%), MyD88 (33.3%), and a decrease in phosphorylation of NF-κB.Discussion and conclusions Our findings indicate that S. mussotii may act as a potential anti-inflammation drug via inhibition of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway. Further in vivo and in vitro studies are needed to validate its potential in clinical medicine.

BackgroundSince 8 January 2023 China has liberalized its control of COVID-19. In a short period of time, the infection rate of COVID-19 in China has risen rapidly, which has brought a heavy burden to medical staff. This study aimed to investigate the psychological status, stress, insomnia, effort-reward imbalance, resilience, and influencing factors of medical staff in China during the period of epidemic policy liberalization.MethodsThis survey was conducted from 6 February to 27 March 2023 with non-random sampling. An online questionnaire survey was conducted using HADS, PSS-14, ISI, ERI, and the resilience assessment scale for medical staff. The levels of psychological, stress, insomnia, effort-reward imbalance, and resilience of medical staff during the pandemic policy opening period were measured.ResultsA total of 2,038 valid questionnaires were collected. 68.5% and 53.9% of medical staff had different degrees of anxiety and depression, respectively. Excessive stress, insomnia, and high effort and low reward were 40.2%, 43.2%, and 14.2%, respectively. Gender, Profession, education level, and age are important factors that lead to anxiety and depression. Women, nurses, higher education, longer working years and hours, high effort, and low reward are risk factors for the above conditions. There was a certain correlation among the five scales, among which anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, effort-reward imbalance, and other factors were positively correlated, while resilience was negatively correlated with these factors.ConclusionThis study found that anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, and other psychological problems of medical staff in China during the policy opening period of COVID-19 were more serious than before. At the individual and organizational levels, it is necessary to improve the well-being of medical staff, optimize the allocation of human resources, and promote the mental health of medical staff with a focus on prevention and mitigation, with the entry point of improving resilience and preventing the effort-reward imbalance.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to introduce the arthroscopic internal drainage with anterior-anteromedial approach for the treatment of popliteal cysts in children. To compare its clinical efficacy with open surgery. Methods This was a retrospective case–control study of 102 patients diagnosed with popliteal cysts from January 2018 to February 2020 who received surgery. The study included 27 cases with minimally invasive group (MI group) and 75 cases with open surgery group (OS group). The MI group included 21 males and 6 females, age 6.71 ± 2.16 years who received arthroscopic internal drainage of the cysts to adequately widen the valve opening between the cyst and the articular cavity, excised the fibrous diaphragm without complete excision of the cyst wall. The OS group included 57 males and 18 females, age 6.21 ± 1.67 years who received open excision. The clinical parameters regarding the preoperative characteristics and surgical results were compared. Ultrasound or MRI was used to identify the recurrence of the popliteal cysts. Rauschning-Lindgren grade was recorded to evaluate the clinical outcome. Results All patients were followed up for at least 24 months. There were no significant differences between the two groups in age, gender, left and right sides, disease time, cyst size, length of hospitalization, preoperative Rauschning-Lindgren grade (p > 0.05). At the last follow-up, the preoperative and postoperative Rauschning-Lindgren grade was improved in both groups. BackgroundCapitellum fractures are rare coronal fractures of the distal humerus which accounts for 6% of all distal humeral fractures and only 1% of all elbow fractures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and complications of arthroscopically assisted reduction and fixation with absorbable screws for capitellar fracture of the humerus in children.MethodsThis was a retrospective case series study, which considered four patients (4 elbows), ranging from 10 to 15 years old, who were treated by arthroscopic-assisted percutaneous absorbable screw between 2018 and 2020. The elbow flexion-extension and forearm supination-pronation ranges of motion (ROM) were measured at the preoperative examination and last follow-up examination. Finally, the clinical and radiological results were assessed.ResultsThe result of operations is satisfactory. The mean follow-up was 3.0 years (range 2–3.8 years). Average range of motion significantly improved from pre- to postoperation, with forearm supination from 60°(50°−60°) to 90°(90°) and pronation improved from 75°(70°−80°) to 90°(90°). The typical heat-resistant FeCrAl alloys have recently been developed as the high-temperature resistant porous materials which are applied widely in the fields of coal-gas purification and high-temperature catalyst carrier. The aluminum mass fraction has an important influence on the pore structure, mechanical property, and oxidation resistance of the FeCrAl alloy porous materials prepared by the reactive synthesis. In this paper, a series of Fe‒20Cr‒xAl alloy porous materials (x=0~20%, mass fraction) were prepared by the reactive synthesis using the mixed Fe, Cr, and Al elemental powders as the raw materials. The effects of Al mass fraction on the phase composition, pore structure, mechanical property, and oxidation resistance of the FeCrAl porous materials were investigated. The results show that, the synthesized Fe‒20Cr‒5Al porous materials possess the superior pore structure and mechanical property, and show the optimal oxidation resistance and mechanical property stability in the high temperature oxidation experiment at 600~800 ℃.

The conversion of CO2 into formate through electrochemical methods is emerging as an elegant approach for industrial‐scale CO2 utilization in the near future. Although Bismuth (Bi)‐based materials have shown promise thank to their excellent selectivity, their limited reactivity remains a challenge. Herein, this study demonstrates a significant enhancement in the CO2‐to‐formate efficiency of Bi by incorporating ruthenium (Ru) atomic species. Ru single atom doped Bi exhibited a nearly twofold higher partial current density compared with pure Bi and Ru clusters doped Bi, while over 95% Faradaic efficiency (FE) is maintained. Through comprehensive investigations using a combined approach of electrochemical techniques, operando spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations, this study elucidates that the presence of Ru single atom promotes H2O dissociation and H* migration to Bi sites for CO2‐to‐formate conversion by significantly reducing the energy barrier via a H* spillover path. Besides, it is constructed Ru–Bi bridge sites for efficient CO2 hydrogenation via a non‐spillover path, which served as the major mechanism for CO2‐to‐formate conversion in Ru single atom doped Bi. In order to improve the performance of bionic quadruped robot, some parameters of leg structure need to be optimized. The kinematic modeling of the leg mechanism of the bionic quadruped robot is analyzed, and the optimization goal is determined. The simulation analyses showed that the improved bacterial foraging algorithm had higher convergence accuracy, and was not easy to fall into local extremum. The improved multi-strategy bacteria foraging optimization algorithm was used to find the optimal leg structure parameters under the original working space. Numerical simulation verifies that the leg structure designed runs smoothly after optimization, which lays a foundation for further research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the imbalance between the supply and demand of oxygen, the oxygen systems of iron- and steel-making enterprises in China have problems with high oxygen emissions and high pressure in the pipelines, resulting in the energy consumption of oxygen production being high. To reduce the energy consumption of oxygen systems, this study took a large-scale iron- and steel-making enterprise as a case study and developed a two-stage forecasting and scheduling model. The novel aspect and progressiveness of this work are as follows: First, an oxygen demand forecasting model was developed based on the backpropagation neural network with genetic algorithm optimization (GABP) and is driven only by historical data. Compared with some complex models in the literature, although the accuracy of this model has been reduced, the model does not need to consider production plans for other process steps, making it more practical and feasible. Second, different from the existing literature, an oxygen production scheduling model was developed for load-variable ASUs with an internal compression process, and both the oxygen emissions and pipeline pressure are included in the objective function. The case study showed that based on the oxygen demand forecast and optimal scheduling, the oxygen emissions and pipeline pressure in the studied iron- and steel-making enterprise can be significantly reduced, thereby achieving considerable energy-saving effects and economic benefits. Specifically, the following conclusions were obtained: (1) For the oxygen demand forecast, the prediction accuracy of the GABP model was better than that of the ARIMA model. The average MAPE of the 12 sets of data of the ARIMA and GABP models was 23.8% and 20.2%, respectively. (2) By comparing the scheduling results and the field data, it was found that after scheduling, the amount of oxygen emissions decreased by 6.32%, the pipeline pressure decreased by 0.61%, and the energy consumption of oxygen compression decreased by 1.6%. Considering both the oxygen emission loss and the energy consumption of oxygen compression, the total power consumption of the studied oxygen system was reduced by 1.38%, resulting in electricity cost savings of approximately 9.03 million RMB per year.

Accumulating studies have demonstrated that hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment alleviates spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the underlying mechanism by which HBO alleviates SCI remains to be elucidated. In this study, we performed genome-wide transcriptional profiling of the spinal cord between SCI mice and mice that received HBO treatment by high-throughput RNA sequencing at 1 week after SCI. We also compared genome-wide transcriptional profiles from SCI mice and sham-operated mice. We found 76 differentially co-expressed genes in sham-operated mice, SCI mice, and HBO-treated SCI mice. Using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis, we identified the biological characteristics of these differentially expressed genes from the perspectives of cell component, biological process, and molecular function. We also found enriched functional pathways including ferroptosis, calcium signaling pathway, serotonergic synapse, hypoxia-inducible factor-1 signaling pathway, cholinergic synapse, and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction. We performed quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and validated that HBO treatment decreased the expression of Hspb1 (heat shock protein beta 1), Hmox1 (heme oxygenase 1), Ftl1 (ferritin light polypeptide 1), Tnc (tenascin C) and Igfbp3 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3) and increased the expression of Slc5a7 (solute carrier family 5 choline transporter member 7) after SCI. These results revealed the genome-wide transcriptional profile of the injured spinal cord after HBO treatment. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanism by which HBO treats SCI and may provide new targets for SCI intervention.

The version three of Earth Magnetic Anomaly Grid (EMAG2-v3) used in this work is aimed at establishing the spatial relationships between tectonic structures and gold and associated mineralization in the Pangar-Djérem area, central and southern Cameroon. Various processing and transformation of image data such as the reduction to the equator, horizontal gradient, generalized derivative, and pseudogravity allowed the identification and delineation of numerous faults related to Syn-D1, Syn-D2, and Syn-D3 deformations. The main orientations, W-E, SW-NE, and SE-NW, obtained from these faults define the intensity of the Pan-African and Eburnian tectonics in the Cameroonian basement. Correlations between mapped faults and mineral occurrences define a structural control of gold mineralization in the study area. Furthermore, the spatial relationships between these faults and the igneous/metasedimentary rocks demonstrate that the Eburnian and Pan-African orogenies favoured the circulation of gold-enriched fluids along faults and shear zones. Gold mineralization in the Pangar-Djérem zone is of the vein type (primary gold), resulting from the intrusion of type I granites and the circulation of enriched fluids in a brittle to ductile shear context. The pseudogravity anomalies associated with the sedimentary deposits/rocks and the SW-NE structures of the Sanaga and Bétaré-Oya Faults define an environment of detrital sedimentary deposits, consisting of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks, and justify the existence of gold-bearing quartz veins.
