101. Matrix Formula of Differential Resultant for First Order Generic Ordinary Differential Polynomials

Abstract

In this paper, a matrix representation for the differential resultant of two generic ordinary differential polynomials $f_1$ and $f_2$ in the differential indeterminate $y$ with order one and arbitrary degree is given. That is, a non-singular matrix is constructed such that its determinant contains the differential resultant as a factor. Furthermore, the algebraic sparse resultant of $f_1, f_2, \delta f_1, \delta f_2$ treated as polynomials in $y, y', y"$ is shown to be a non-zero multiple of the differential resultant of $f_1, f_2$. Although very special, this seems to be the first matrix representation for a class of nonlinear generic differential polynomials.

Abstract

We show that the two couple equations derived by approximate symmetry method and approximate homotopy symmetry method are connected by a transformation for the perturbed PDEs. Consequently, approximate homotopy series solutions can be obtained by acting the transformation on the known solutions by approximate symmetry method. Applications to the Cahn-Hilliard equation illustrate the effectiveness of the transformation.

Abstract

Stem cell-based therapy plays a significant role in the repair of bone defects. However, traditional stem cell transplantation strategies in bone tissue engineering are characterized by low survival rates and unstable treatment outcomes. In this study, we propose a timely delivery strategy for inflammatory changes in the setting of bone injury to improve the survival rate of transplanted cells and bone repair. The results of cell tracing in vivo showed that this strategy could effectively improve the survival rate of low-dose exogenous transplanted cells in bone defect areas, and CD31 immunofluorescence and histological sections suggested that this strategy effectively promoted vascularization and new bone formation in the calvarial defect area. Subsequently, we analyzed the mechanism of action of the "Two-step" strategy from the perspective of inflammatory microenvironment regulation, and the results suggested that the first batch transplanted stem cells caused localized and transient increases in tissue apoptosis levels and inflammatory factors, and recruited macrophage chemotaxis, and the second batch of cells may promote pro-inflammatory - anti-inflammatory transformation of the tissue. Finally, mRNA sequencing results suggest that the first batch cells in the "Two-step" strategy are important initiators in bone repair, which not only actively regulate the immune microenvironment at the bone defect, but also guide richer cellular activity and more positive biochemical responses. Therefore, the "Two-step" strategy leads to efficient inflammatory environment regulation and superior bone repair effects, which may provide an alternative option for the treatment of bone defects in the future. Abstract

This study aims to compare the effects of mandibular distraction osteogenesis (MDO) and bone grafting on the facial symmetry of children with Pruzansky-Kaban type IIB and III craniofacial microsomia (CFM). Medical records and three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) data of CFM patients who had primarily undergone MDO and bone grafting were collected. A retrospective analysis of pre-and post-operative 3D imaging data was conducted to compare the improvement rate in facial symmetry between the two groups based on occlusal cant, affected/unaffected ramus height ratio and chin point deviation. The data were tested for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test. When the data followed a normal distribution, a paired sample t -test was employed for the comparison between preoperative and postoperative data. When the data did not follow a normal distribution, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for paired samples was used for preoperative and postoperative comparison. The study included 18 children with type IIB and III CFM, 11 in the MDO group and 7 in the bone grafting group. In the MDO group, postoperative Gn-FH and Gn-Cor distances increased significantly, whereas the postoperative Gn-Mid distance decreased significantly. Occlusal cant decreased significantly and ramus height affected/unaffected ratio increased significantly after MDO. In the bone graft group, there was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative ratios of chin deviation, occlusal cant, and ramus height affected/unaffected compared to the preoperative values. Compared to bone grafting, MDO can significantly enhance ramus height ratio, level occlusal plane, and centralize the chin point among patients with CFM. Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the potential relationship between urinary metals copper (Cu), arsenic (As), strontium (Sr), barium (Ba), iron (Fe), lead (Pb) and manganese (Mn) and grip strength. We used linear regression models, quantile g-computation and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) to assess the relationship between metals and grip strength. In the multimetal linear regression, Cu (β = −2.119), As (β = −1.318), Sr (β = −2.480), Ba (β = 0.781), Fe (β = 1.130) and Mn (β = −0.404) were significantly correlated with grip strength (P < 0.05). The results of the quantile g-computation showed that the risk of occurrence of grip strength reduction was −1.007 (95% confidence interval: −1.362, −0.652; P < 0.001) when each quartile of the mixture of the seven metals was increased. Bayesian kernel function regression model analysis showed that mixtures of the seven metals had a negative overall effect on grip strength, with Cu, As and Sr being negatively associated with grip strength levels. In the total population, potential interactions were observed between As and Mn and between Cu and Mn (P interactions of 0.003 and 0.018, respectively). In summary, this study suggests that combined exposure to metal mixtures is negatively associated with grip strength. Cu, Sr and As were negatively correlated with grip strength levels, and there were potential interactions between As and Mn and between Cu and Mn. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore the clinicopathological characteristics of gastric cancer and precancerous conditions in patients with primary gastric lymphoma. We analyzed 474 cases of primary gastric lymphoma, mainly DLBCL and MALT, from three clinical centres retrospectively, and compared the clinicopathological parameters of primary gastric lymphoma patients complicated with gastric cancer, precancerous conditions, or with no complications. A total of 5.1% of the patients with primary gastric lymphoma were diagnosed with gastric cancer, including metachronous gastric adenocarcinoma (3.2%) and synchronous gastric adenocarcinoma (1.9%). Of the patients with gastric lymphoma, 14.6% had precancerous conditions including atrophy (14.6%), intestinal metaplasia (8.9%), and low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (1.9%). Primary gastric lymphoma patients with an ulcerative type (p = 0.009) and Lugano classification stage IIE + IV (p < 0.001) lymphoma had a higher risk of complicating with gastric cancers or precancerous conditions. The rate of infection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) was 68.4% in patients with primary gastric lymphoma, which was higher in patients with MALT lymphoma (p < 0.001), Lugano classification stage I + II (p < 0.001), and patients complicated with precancerous conditions and gastric cancer (p < 0.001), especially gastric cancer of the intestinal type (p = 0.04). Gastric cancer (95.8%) and precancerous conditions (91.3%) occurred mostly in Hp-infected primary gastric lymphoma patients, with a minor subset of Hp-eradicated patients. Primary gastric lymphoma patients had a higher detection rate of early gastric cancer (25.0%) and a five-year survival rate (40.0%) than the general Chinese population. Patients with primary gastric lymphoma have a high risk of developing gastric cancer and precancerous conditions, and this risk may be related to Helicobacter pylori infection. Follow-up of primary gastric lymphoma provides an opportunity for the detection of early gastric cancer. 5.1% of the patients with primary gastric lymphoma were diagnosed with gastric cancer. 14.6% of the patients with gastric lymphoma had premalignant lesions including atrophy (14.6%), intestinal metaplasia (8.9%), and low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (1.9%). Primary gastric lymphoma patients complicating with gastric cancer had a higher infection rate of Helicobacter pylori (100.0%), a detection rate of early gastric cancer (25.0%) and a five-year survival rate (40.0%) than the general Chinese population. Abstract

Fossil pollen and spore records provide highly creditable proxy data to investigate the past environmental changes such as palaeovegetation and palaeoclimate. Pollen database promotes past environmental studies from local to regional and global scales and from qualitative to quantitative reconstructions. This is of great significance on exploring the interactions among past vegetation, climates and anthropogenic disturbances at large spatial scale and long temporal scale, to better understand the evolution of the earth system. In this paper, a fossil pollen dataset of China is compiled, by synthesizing 372 original or digitized fossil pollen records including 790 pollen taxa in China’s land and ocean during the late-Quaternary (since 50 ka BP). The dataset includes site names, latitude, longitude and altitude, pollen data source, sample type, sediment length or span, sample number of each site, dating method and dating number, age span and reference, as well as the fossil pollen percentage of each sampling site. The pollen data, mostly published from late 1980s to present, are concentrated in vegetation regions of temperate and subtropical forests, temperate grasslands, temperate deserts and alpine vegetation on the Qingzang Plateau. Sample sites are distributed at different altitudes from deep sea to high Qingzang Plateau, but the majority of the sites are located between 0–2 000 m. The dataset comprises of 178 raw pollen records (47.8%) and 194 digitized pollen records (52.2%). Pollen samples are mainly from lake sediment (151 sites), alluvial/fluvial sediment (99 sites), and peat (67 sites), accounting for 85.2% of the total sampling sites. Radiocarbon is the main dating method that accounts for 93.8% of total samples, and most of the sites have 2–10 radiocarbon dating data. Abstract

Resolving the infrageneric classification of species‐rich genera has been challenging in plant taxonomy. Ilex L. is a subcosmopolitan genus with over 600 species of dioecious trees and shrubs. Many classification systems based on morphological data have been proposed during the past 250 years. However, these systems (such as Loesener's and Galle's systems) may not truly reflect Ilex's evolutionary trajectories because most of those system's infrageneric hierarchies are not monophyletic. In this study, we reconstructed a phylogeny of Ilex L. comprising 15 moderately to highly supported clades using rigorously identified samples (202 species) and closely authenticated gene sequences of three nuclear genes [internal transcribed spacer (ITS), external transcribed spacer (ETS), and nepGS]. The newly generated phylogenetic tree resembles essentially that of the nuclear tree of Manen et al., but shows conspicuous topological differences with the phylogeny of Yao et al. Closely scrutinizing morphological variation and distributional patterns of 202 species, this study found that most lineages of Ilex identified herein are well defined by a particular trait or a combination of morphological and distributional traits, displaying phylogeny–morphology–distribution conformity that has seldom been uncovered in previous studies. Given the general phylogeny–morphology–distribution conformity revealed in this genus, we put forward an updated sectional classification system for Ilex that temporarily contains 14 sections. The new classification will provide a robust framework for studying the evolution and diversification of this ecologically and economically important genus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
