Coagulation has been the most successful pretreatment for the mitigation of membrane fouling, the improvement of permeate quality, and the extension of membrane service life. Membrane coagulation reactor (MCR), which is a coupled coagulation and membrane filtration process, is a promising technology for surface water purification. In order to decrease footprint, promote flocculation efficiency, and mitigate efficiently membrane fouling, a submerged internal loop MCR with in-line coagulation, sludge thickening, and air sparging was developed. In the MCR, the internal loop flow induced by air lift through a flocculation region can cause a continuous flocculation of raw water and consequently avoid the accumulation of fine flocs prone to blocking membrane pores and forming a compact cake layer. Furthermore, the flocs with a large size and a fast settling velocity can consecutively settle into the sludge thickening region and then are discharged for controlling sludge concentration. The MCR with hollow fiber microfiltration membranes and with polyaluminium chloride (PACl) as coagulant exhibited excellent performance in removing the turbidity, total organic carbon (TOC), and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of surface water at bench-scale test. The turbidity and TOC of the permeate met the needs of centralized water supply set by “Standards for Drinking Water Quality” (GB 5749–2006) of China, below 1 NTU and 5 mg/L, respectively. The water flux above 55 L/(m2 h) was achieved at the transmembrane pressure of 0.025 MPa. Air sparging could effectively control membrane fouling of the MCR and continuous air sparging was more favorable than intermittent air sparging. The observations by scanning electron microscope showed that the cake layer on membrane surface was loose and irregular and easily cleaned by air sparging, but CaCO3was difficult to be removed compared to other precipitates, such as those of Al, Si, and Fe. Influence of total aluminum concentration (CAlT) on the generation and transformation of nanosized Al13 and Al30 in hydrolytic polyaluminum aqueous solutions was investigated using high field 27Al NMR and time-developed Al-Ferron complex colorimetry. When prepared at the optimal basicity (B) of Al13 generation and 80°C, the Al13 species in polyaluminum solution tends to further polymerize and convert to Al30 and higher polymers when CAlT»0.2 mol · L-1, but Al13 does not convert to Al30 quantificationally, as the formation of Alu from Al13 and Al30 is accelerated in the same way. The conversion rate of Al13 is accelerated by the increase in CAlT. When CAlT»0.75 mol · L-1, Al13 content decreases rapidly, and Al30 content increases continuously and becomes the dominant nanometer polynuclear aluminum species. Alm is one of prerequisites of Al13 conversion to Al30. When CAlT increases and B reduces, the polymerization rate between Al13 and Alm increases, and at the same time, the dissociation reaction rate of Al13 and Al30 by H+ also increases. The latter becomes the dominant reaction in polyaluminum solution with low B value, so Al30 decreases with the increasing CAlT. In this work, the H 2 O 2 generation potential of the EO-H 2 O 2 process using an activated carbon fiber attached RuO 2 /Ti cathode (ACF@RuO 2 /Ti) was evaluated by simulation experiments with a high-precision syringe pump. Results shown that the actual average H 2 O 2 accumulation rate reached up to 4.92 mg h−1 cm−2, while more than 95 % of the electrogenerated H 2 O 2 was decomposed quickly. Electron paramagnetic resonance and quenching tests confirmed that the primary oxidant •OH was produced from H 2 O 2 activation by ACF, RuO 2 catalyst and their synergistic effect, while RuO 2 played dominant role. The production of •OH in the EO-H 2 O 2 process was also confirmed by the degradation and mineralization of antibiotic ciprofloxacin. The characterization results indicated that heterogeneous catalysis of cathode was due to both the pyridinic nitrogen and oxygen-containing groups of ACF, along with RuO 2 catalyst on the RuO 2 /Ti surface. The utilization of hybrid electro-Fenton (EF) processes has gained considerable attention, which can combine the advantages of two or more treatment methods resulting in efficient removal of refractory pollutants from water. Here, an electro-controlled membrane coupling heterogeneous EF (EM-HEF) system was constructed for the degradation of acetaminophen (APAP) in water. In the EM-HEF system, a bifunctional ACF/CC-FeOCl-Cu cathode material was synthesized to enhance the HEF reaction, while a tubular Ti microfiltration membrane was used as both cathode and membrane. Degradation experiments indicated the EM-HEF system exhibited remarkable removal efficiency (97.0 %) towards APAP within 30 min under the conditions of flow rate at 60 mL min−1, initial pH at 7.1, and current density at 3 mA cm−2. Notably, the cathode materials showed low metal leaching rate and high APAP removal rate in the 10 cyclic experiments. The common inorganic anions (Cl−, HCO 3 −, HPO 4 2−, and NO 3 −) did not inhibit the removal of APAP significantly, whereas humic acid exhibited a more pronounced inhibitory effect only at concentrations exceeding 10 mg L−1. Quenching experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) tests confirmed the pivotal role of hydroxyl radicals in the decomposition of APAP. Combining density functional theory (DFT) and LC-MS results, three pathways were proposed. The overall toxicity of intermediates was relieved during EM-HEF degradation of APAP. Furthermore, it also achieved good performance in the treatment of landfill leachate, with increasing BOD 5 /COD ratio from 0.11 to 0.34. The presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in reclaimed water introduces an ongoing challenge as they infiltrate green space soils during irrigation, leading to a gradual buildup that poses considerable ecological risks. The simulation and forecasting of PPCPs accumulation in soil are pivotal for proactive ecological risk management. However, the majority of research efforts have predominantly concentrated on the vertical transport mechanisms of PPCPs in the soil, neglecting a holistic perspective that integrates both vertical and lateral transport phenomena, alongside accumulation dynamics. To address this gap, this study introduces a comprehensive conceptual model that encapsulates the dual processes of vertical and lateral transport, coupled with accumulation of PPCPs in the soil environment. Grounded in the distinctive properties of green space soils, we delve into the determinants governing the vertical and lateral migration of PPCPs. Furthermore, we consolidate existing simulation methodologies for contaminant transport, aiming to establish a comprehensive model that accurately predicts PPCPs accumulation in green space soils. The properties of K-g-C 3 N 4 were systematically characterized by XRD, FT-IR, BET, SEM, UV-vis DRS, and XPS, showing that K-g-C 3 N 4 possessed a larger specific surface and richer functional groups than g-C 3 N 4. The catalytic efficiency of K-g-C 3 N 4 was investigated for the trimethoprim (TMP) removal under VUV irradiation. Compared with UVC photolysis, VUV photolysis, UVC/g-C 3 N 4 , VUV/g-C 3 N 4 , and UVC/K-g-C 3 N 4 processes, VUV/K-g-C 3 N 4 enhanced the pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant of TMP removal by 2.0–19.7 times and the mineralization rate by 9.0%-38.2%. Electron paramagnetic resonance results and quenching experiments validated that O 2 •-, •OH, 1O 2 , h+, and e- were engaged in the VUV/K-g-C 3 N 4 process. The fluorescent spectra of O 2 •--substituted and •OH-substituted products revealed that the K-g-C 3 N 4 greatly enhanced the quantity of O 2 •- and •OH during VUV irradiation. The VUV/K-g-C 3 N 4 system produced marginally more H 2 O 2 and •OH than the UVC/K-g-C 3 N 4 system, confirming that K-g-C 3 N 4 predominantly utilized the UVC and other ultraviolet–visible light emitted by the VUV lamp, with VUV having a minor effect. Inspiring the creative potential of overqualified employees can facilitate a mutually beneficial outcome for both the company and the employees. However, further investigation is required to ascertain how to stimulate the perceived overqualification of employees to carry out creative deviance. Drawing upon role theory, this study explores the impact mechanism of perceived overqualification on employee creative deviance, with leadership emergence as the mediating variable, and further examines the moderating role of job autonomy. Adopting a two-stage design, 362 valid data samples were collected from various companies, and analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results indicate a positive correlation between perceived overqualification and creative deviance. Perceived overqualification not only positively influences leadership emergence but it also indirectly affects creative deviance through leadership emergence. Furthermore, when individuals with perceived overqualification and possess a greater level of job autonomy, they are more likely to engage in creative deviant behavior. The findings contribute to understanding the mediating mechanisms and boundary conditions of employees' perceived overqualification influencing creative deviance from a positive perspective, offering valuable managerial insights for organizations. Herein, novel melamine-based G n -Dendron-OMS (G represents Generation; n = 1, 2, 3; Dendron = DMEDA, PIP, AMP, TMDP; OMS = FDU-12, MCM-41, SBA-15, KIT-6) hybrids with various terminal diamine groups, Dendron generations and ordered mesoporous silica hosts were synthesized, characterized and used to catalyze the nitroaldol (Henry) reaction. Among these hybrids, G 1 -DMEDA-FDU-12 shows outstanding catalytic performance with 4-nitrobenzaldehyde conversion of 96 %, β-nitroalcohol selectivity of 94 % and TOF of 20.4 h−1 under mild and solvent-free conditions. HMDS and HCl intervening active-site deactivation, in situ Raman spectra, Mulliken charge distribution and DFT calculations suggest that the triazine N atom (N T) in the Dendron chain functions as the active site, the dehydrogenation of nitromethane is the rate determining step (RDS) and the Gibbs free energy change of the RDS on the triazine N atom decreased to as low as 30.2 kcal mol−1. The formation of the deuterated β-nitroalcohol (R-OD) detected by FTIR and NMR indicates that nitroaldol (Henry) reaction undergoes an ion-pair mechanism. This work for the first time reveals the triazine-based active site for the nitroaldol (Henry) reaction and highlights a novel strategy to construct uniform, functional and tunable active sites for potential applications in catalysis, CO 2 capture and pollutant removal. Extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) in excess sludge of wastewater treatment plants are valuable biopolymers that can act as recovery materials. However, effectively concentrating EPSs consumes a significant amount of energy. This study employed novel energy-saving pressure-free dead-end forward osmosis (DEFO) technology to concentrate various biopolymers, including EPSs and model biopolymers [sodium alginate (SA), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and a mixture of both (denoted as BSA-SA)]. The feasibility of the DEFO technology was proven and the largest concentration ratios for these biopolymers were 94.8 % for EPSs, 97.1 % for SA, 97.8 % for BSA, and 98.4 % for BSA-SA solutions. An evaluation model was proposed, incorporating the FO membrane's water permeability coefficient and the concentrated substances' osmotic resistance, to describe biopolymers' concentration properties. Irrespective of biopolymer type, the water permeability coefficient decreased with increasing osmotic pressure, remained constant with increasing feed solution (FS) concentration, increased with increasing crossing velocity in the draw side, and showed little dependence on draw salt type. In the EPS DEFO concentration process, osmotic resistance was minimally impacted by osmotic pressure, FS concentration, and crossing velocity, and monovalent metal salts were proposed as draw solutes. The interaction between reverse diffusion metal cations and EPSs affected the structure of the concentrated substances on the FO membrane, thus changing the osmotic resistance in the DEFO process. The widespread existence of antibiotics in the environment has attracted growing concerns regarding the potential adverse effects on aquatic organisms, ecosystems, and human health even at low concentrations. Extensive efforts have been devoted to developing new methods for effective elimination of antibiotics from wastewater. Herein, a novel process of Fe2+ catalytically enhanced vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) irradiation was proposed as a promising approach for the removal of antibiotic trimethoprim (TMP) in water. Compared with UVC photolysis, VUV photolysis, and UVC/Fe2+, VUV/Fe2+ could increase the pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant of TMP removal by 6.6–38.4 times and the mineralization rate by 36.5%–59.9%. The excellent performance might originate from the synergistic effect of VUV and Fe2+, i.e., VUV irradiation could effectively split water and largely accelerate the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle to generate more reactive oxygen species (ROS). EPR results indicated that •OH and O 2 •- were identified as the main ROS in the UVC/Fe2+ and VUV/Fe2+ processes, while •OH, O 2 •-, and 1O 2 were involved in the VUV process. The operating parameters, such as Fe2+ dosage and initial TMP contents, were evaluated and optimized. Up to 8 aromatic intermediates derived from hydroxylation, demethylation, carbonylation, and methylene group cleavage were identified by UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS technique, the possible pathways of TMP degradation were proposed. The results show that the average removal efficiency of toluene reached 71.82 % within 90 min under optimal conditions (C Toluene = 100 mg/m3; C O3 = 1 mg/L; catalyst loading = 5 g/L; pH = 7; gas flow = 500 mL/min), which outperformed that of the gaseous system. Quenching experiments and electron spin resonance spectroscopy indicate that OH and O 2 − are the two main reactive oxygen species (ROSs) in the system, which facilitate the opening of the benzene ring and significantly reduce by-products. The intermediates of toluene degradation were identified by proton-transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (PTR-TOF-MS). The results indicate that most of the intermediates generated in the system are captured in water rather than being emitted into the atmosphere. In the pilot-scale experiments, the WCO process exhibited a stable VOC removal efficiency (≥61.05 %) for 10 d in the treatment of actual low-concentration VOCs. The electro-Fenton (EF) based on gas-diffusion electrodes (GDEs) reveals promising application prospective towards recalcitrant organics degradation because such GDEs often yields superior H 2 O 2 generation efficiency and selectivity. However, the low efficiency of Fe2+/Fe3+ cycle with GDEs is always considered to be the limiting step for the EF process. In this study, activated carbon fiber (ACF) was firstly employed as co-catalyst to facilitate the performance of antibiotic cefaclor (CEC) decomposition in EF process. It was found that the addition of ACF co-catalyst achieved a rapid Fe2+/Fe3+ cycling, which significantly enhanced Fenton's reaction and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) generation. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated that the functional groups on ACF surface are related to the conversion of Fe3+ into Fe2+. Moreover, DMSO probing experiment confirmed the enhanced •OH production in EF + ACF system compared t o conventional EF system. When inactive BDD and Ti 4 O 7 /Ti anodes were paired to EF system, the addition of ACF could significantly improve mineralization degree. However, a large amount of toxic byproducts, including chlorate (ClO 3 −) and perchlorate (ClO 4 −), were generated in these EF processes, especially for BDD anode, due to their robust oxidation capacity. Higher mineralization efficiency and less toxic ClO 4 − generation were obtained in the EF + ACF process with Ti 4 O 7 /Ti anode. Flow-through heterogeneous electro-Fenton (FHEF) process shows a broad prospect for refractory organic pollutants removal. However, maintaining a long-term service life of higher catalytic cathode is crucial for the development of cathode materials, especially for iron-functionalized cathode operated under harsh conditions. In this study, a novel bimetallic CC@FeOCl–Cu composite was synthesized through one-step calcination, coupled with a series of microstructure characterization methodology, including XRD, SEM-EDS, XPS, and FTIR. The superior catalytic activity of CC@FeOCl–Cu could be ascribed to Fe–Cu synergy and better dispersion of FeOCl nanosheets. With the optimal Cu:Fe ratio of 1:60, the bifunctional ACF/CC@FeOCl–Cu cathode was employed in FHEF process, exhibiting an outstanding performance for sulfamethoxazole (SMX) removal over a wide pH range (3.0–9.0). Comparison of experimental results indicated that the ACF/CC@FeOCl–Cu-FHEF process showed higher performance than ACF/CC@FeOCl-FHEF and homogeneous EF processes. The average SMX removal efficiency was 98% and TOC removal efficiency was more than 57% even after 10 cycles. Radical quenching experiments and electron spin resonance test confirmed that •OH was the primary active species. More •OH was generated in the ACF/CC@FeOCl–Cu-FHEF process because the doping of Cu could enhance catalytic activity of cathode. In addition, the satisfactory performance could be observed in the ACF/CC@FeOCl–Cu-FHEF process for the treatment of real landfill leachate, indicating its potential for practical application in wastewater treatment. Reverse osmosis (RO) is one of the most fundamental membrane technology because it has higher salt rejections, which suffers from the issue of membrane fouling, as the membrane is inevitably exposed to foulants during the filtration process. For different fouling mechanisms of RO membrane, physical and chemical cleaning are widely used in the control of RO membrane fouling. The present study investigated the performance and water flux recovery using osmotic cleaning to clean the typical inorganic and organic foulants on RO membrane for textile printing and dyeing wastewater treatment. The effects of operation conditions (i.e., the concentration of cleaning solution, the filtrating time and cleaning time, and the flow rate of cleaning solution) on relative water flux recovery were examined. The results show that a highly water flux recovery (98.3% for cleaning of inorganic fouling and 99.6% for cleaning of organic fouling) was achieved under optimal operation of the concentration and flow rate of cleaning solution and the filtrating and cleaning time. Moreover, the experiment of repeated "filtrating-cleaning" cycles indicated that the osmotic cleaning has highly performance of recoverability of water flux (over 95.0%) can be extended in a relatively long time. The experimental results and changes on SEM and AFM images of RO membrane confirmed the successful development and application of osmotic cleaning for inorganic and organic fouling of RO membrane. The results showed that the PMIA composite membrane contained 0.2 wt% MWCNT-COOH additives with small outer diameter and large length to diameter ratio (L/D ratio), exhibiting improved water flux of nearly 8 times than unmodified membrane, lowest contact angle value (58.3°). Pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) removal experiment indicated the optimal membrane exhibited the highest removal rate (43 %) for ibuprofen (IBU) among three target pollutants as solution pH adjusted from 3 to 9. Due to the highly negative charged on membrane surface, self-made PMIA membrane showed more than twice IBU removal that of the contrast UF membrane with low molecular weight (5000 Da) under neutral conditions.
