Objective To analyze the effect of asymptomatic carotid atherosclerosis on the progression of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) in Shunyi cohort community population. Methods A total of 658 residents aged ≥ 35 years old from Shunyi cohort population (from June 2013 to April 2016) were selected as study subjects. Carotid ultrasound was used to assess the presence of baseline carotid plaque, and CSVD progression was assessed by baseline and follow ⁃ up MRI, which included lacunes, cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) and white matter hyperintensity (WMH). Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the effect of carotid plaque on incident lacunes or CMBs, and linear regression was used to analyze the linear correlation between baseline carotid plaque and WMH progression. Results Among 658 people 250 people (37.99%) had carotid plaque at baseline. After (5.57 ± 0.49) years of follow⁃up, 70 people (10.64%) developed incident lacunes and 56 people (8.51%) had incident CMBs. The annual WMH progression was 0.28 (0.14, 0.55) cm3/year. Logistic regression analysis showed the presence of baseline carotid plaque significantly predicted incident CMBs (OR = 2.411, 95%CI: 1.240- 4.687; P = 0.009). Conclusions Prensence of carotid plaque increased CMBs progression during five⁃year follow⁃up, but the influence on lacunes and WMH progression requires a longer cumulative effect.

Resonators are at the core of optical sensors enhancing light–analyte interaction and leading to higher sensitivities. Maximizing the sensitivity is an obvious objective function for the resonator design. However, high sensitivity does not guarantee sufficient detectivity. When the optical energy budget is limited, as in sensors on mobile platforms, a higher sensitivity usually leads to lower detectivity for nanophotonic sensors. In such scenarios, resonator design requires balancing the trade-off between the sensitivity and detectivity of the resonant sensor. Here, we show the direct dependence of detectivity on the Q-factor and the trade-off between the Q-factor and sensitivity. We study this trade-off in an array of plasmonic resonators. We choose plasmonic resonators because of their high sensitivity arising from large local field enhancements. Then, we show that the detectivity of this sensor may be boosted for limited energy budget applications by making an array of resonators supporting a surface lattice resonance (SLR). We experimentally demonstrate sensing and detection of antimouse IgG protein in a gold nanodisk array–based SLR sensor for various energy budgets.

Synthesis and polymerization performance of a kind of dilithium initiator soluble in non-polar solvent Abstract: A novel dilithium initiator soluble in non-polar solvent cyclopentane was prepared by the reaction of sec-butyl lithium and 2,6-dimethylpyridine in cyclopentane for 1 h, and compared with the traditional monolithium initiators, when the dilithium initiator was used for solution polymerization of styrene and butadiene, its dose was just half of that of the monolithium initiator; the measured number-average relative molecular weight (M(——)n) of styrene-butadiene rubber prepared by the dilithium initiator was in general agreement with the designed M(——)n and the gel permeation chromatography curve of the resulting product contained a relatively narrow and symmetrical single peak, which indicated that the dilithium initiator had high initiating activity.

Firstly,the error estimates of cubic spline quasi-intepolating operators are derived for continuous differential function with different orders.Secondly,cubic B-spline quasi-interpolation is used to get the numerical solution of Saint-Venant equation.Specifically,the derivatives of the quasi-interpolation are used to approximate the spatial derivative of the dependent variable and forward difference method is used to approximate the time derivative of the dependent variable.Finally,the numerical solutions are compared with the solution obtained by the fourth order Runge-Kutta method and the leapfrog scheme.Then numerical examples show that cubic spline quasi-intepolating method has some advantages.

The way an animal uses its habitat can serve as an indicator of habitat appropriateness for the species and individuals. Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus and Tursiops aduncus) in accredited zoos and aquariums experience a range of habitat types and management programs that provide opportunities for dolphins to engage in species-appropriate behaviors and potentially influence their individual and group welfare. Data in the present study were collected as part of a larger study titled "Towards understanding the welfare of cetaceans in zoos and aquariums" (colloquially called the Cetacean Welfare Study). Non-invasive bio-logging devices (Movement Tags) recorded the diving behavior and vertical habitat movements of 60 bottlenose dolphins at 31 zoos and aquariums that were accredited by the Alliance for Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums and/or the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. Bottlenose dolphins wore a Movement Tag one day per week for two five-week data collection periods. Demographic variables, environmental enrichment programs, training programs, and habitat characteristics were associated with habitat usage. Longer dive durations and use of the bottom third of the habitat were associated with higher enrichment program index values. Dolphins receiving new enrichment on a monthly/weekly schedule also used the bottom third of the habitat more often than those receiving new enrichment on a yearly/year+ schedule. Dolphins that were managed in a group that was split into smaller subgroups during the day and were reunited into one group at night spent less time in the top third of the habitat than those who remained in a single group with consistent members at all times. Dolphins that were managed as subgroups with rotating members but were never united as one group spent less time in the bottom third of the habitat than those who remained in a single group with consistent members at all times. Taken together, the results suggested that management practices, such as enrichment and training programs, played a greater role in how dolphins interacted with their environment relative to the physical characteristics of the habitat.

High-resolution non-invasive cetacean tagging systems can be used to investigate the influence of habitat characteristics and management factors on behavior by quantifying activity levels and distance traveled by bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus and Tursiops aduncus) in accredited zoos and aquariums. Movement Tags (MTags), a bio-logging device, were used to record a suite of kinematic and environmental information outside of formal training sessions as part of a larger study titled "Towards understanding the welfare of cetaceans in zoos and aquariums" (colloquially called the Cetacean Welfare Study). The purpose of the present study was to explore if and how habitat characteristics, environmental enrichment programs, and training programs were related to the distance traveled and energy expenditure of dolphins in accredited zoos and aquariums. Bottlenose dolphins in accredited zoos and aquariums wore MTags one day per week for two five-week data collection periods. Overall dynamic body acceleration (ODBA), a proxy for energy expenditure, and average distance traveled per hour (ADT) of 60 dolphins in 31 habitats were examined in relation to demographic, habitat, and management factors. Participating facilities were accredited by the Alliance for Marine Mammal Parks and/or Aquariums and the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. Two factors were found to be related to ADT while six factors were associated with ODBA. The results showed that enrichment programs were strongly related to both ODBA and ADT. Scheduling predictable training session times was also positively associated with ADT. The findings suggested that habitat characteristics had a relatively weak association with ODBA and were not related to ADT. In combination, the results suggested that management practices were more strongly related to activity levels than habitat characteristics.
