Mobile communication systems are witnessing an ongoing-increase in connected devices and new types of services. This considerable increase has led to an exponential augmentation in mobile data traffic volume. Ultra-densification is a key solution aimed at satisfying the emerging requirements in next-generation 5G networks. However, the deployment of a high number of small cells and mobile nodes on the 5G networks poses challenges for the mobility management, including frequent, unnecessary and ping-pong handovers, with additional problems related to increased delay and total failure of the handover process. In this article, a novel optimized vertical handover approach is proposed to find the optimal network to connect with a good quality of service. In current years, vehicular communication systems are evolving for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) by providing its wireless network services with increasing demand for high data rate. Vehicular communications supports for various applications that include safety, traffic efficiency and infotainment. However, the high mobility of vehicles and frequent topology changes in such communication systems pose challenges for the mobility management, including frequent, unnecessary and ping-pong handovers, with additional problems related to increased delay and packets loss rate, and failure of the handover process. In this article, we propose a solution to optimize the handover in vehicular networks. Our solution resides in creating a novel multi-criteria network selection mechanism. The objectives of the proposed solution are: to decrease handover failure, handover delay, and packet loss rates, also to distribute traffic load uniformly among available networks to improve the average system resource utilization. The proposed mechanism is based on Fuzzy Logic scheme to support the decision making process. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared to existing works, the proposed approach significantly reduces the handover failure, handover delay and packet loss rates. The innovative architecture of Device-to-Device (D2D) underlying LTE/LTE-A networks is brought up to enable efficient discovery and communication between proximate devices. However, enabling D2D communications in a cellular network poses a major challenge that Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of D2D communications need to be guaranteed. Thus, synchronization between devices becomes a necessity and Radio Resource Management (RRM) becomes a key design aspect to enable D2D communication, where resource allocation phase is one of the most critical aspects. The problem of resource allocation in D2D communication system is a combinatorial optimization issue, difficult to obtain optimum solutions in polynomial time. In order to reduce complexity, it can be solved by using linear algorithms or by metaheuristic methods. In this paper an Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based resource allocation and resource sharing scheme for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) based D2D communications in LTE-A networks is introduced. The swarm intelligence algorithm ACO, which is a typical algorithm of metaheuristic methods, is adopted to resolve the optimization problem of maximizing the network sum rate while considering the QoS requirements. Vehicular communication is considered as a key technology for enhancing road safety. In fact, Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks (VANETs) are regarded as the most suitable technology to provide vehicles with communication capabilities as a mean to reach this intension. Whereas, to guarantee their widest possible adoption, mobility management must be carefully investigated. Therefore, due to the low signaling costs and handover latency, the protocol Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) can be well deployed in these networks. In addition, to offer reachability, Internet connectivity and session continuity for a whole mobile group of nodes, the Network Mobility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP) has been developed by the IETF and has gained a widespread attention. The mobility support provided by these solutions (PMIPv6 and NEMO BSP) increments the vulnerability of mobility protocols against various attacks. Consequently, many schemes have been proposed to resolve this problem. However, the majorities still suffer from many security problems, especially the fact that they do not define an optimized authentication method between communicant nodes in schemes adapting fast handover in Proxy MIPv6 with NEMO (FP-NEMO) to reduce handover latency. Thus, this article proposes a Secure Reactive Fast Proxy MIPv6-Based NEtwork MObility (SRFP-NEMO) for Vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANETs) which ensures strong authentication between entities. Our scheme is based only on symmetric cryptography in order to resolve the constraints of the PKI cryptography. To evaluate the security performance of our proposition, we have used the AVISPA/SPAN software which guarantees that our proposed protocol is a safe scheme. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a key of the intelligent transport system. In fact, these networks provide many interesting services such as exchanging live messages like road conditions, targeted location based advertisements, traffic congestion and weather conditions to enhance the driving comfort. However, these benefits have become threatening or even dangerous if they are not well secured in both communications V2V (vehicle to vehicle) and V2I (Vehicles to infrastructure). Moreover, as the security must be strong, it must not degrade the Quality of Service (QoS), especially with the raised speed of vehicles in VANETs, the addition of extra messages for security, which can be very critical in terms of QoS. Existing works on this topic presents some solutions to secure VANET communications. We mention the Dual Authentication and Key Management Techniques for Secure Data Transmission in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks. This solution is characterized by a good quality of service compared to other solutions, but it lacks a lot of security properties. In this work, we present an enhancement to this solution to obtain a strong security and maintain the good QoS at the same time. We establish a new authentication process and add a re-authentication process to ensure both better security properties and optimal authentication delay by optimizing the amount of information and the computational delay. Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have acquired recently enormous attention and momentum; therefore, security aspects have been a fundamental concern for them. Among catastrophic threats on WMNs, Denial-of-Service attacks that have become a severe danger because of their plug-and-play structural design. Unfortunately, preventing a Denial-of-Service attack presents a challenging issue. This fact is induced with the appearance of the source IP addresses spoofing. The resolution key of this issue is to reveal the attack source based on the path through which the attack packet passes. For this, many researchers in IP traceability field propose various methods and techniques to deal with the issue. In this article, we conceive a novel approach named out of band IP traceback approach in WMN (IEEE 802.11s). We create a new architecture using signaling messages for discovering the real source(s) of IP packets. Our solution is based on a security-oriented signaling protocol. This protocol allows specialized signaling entities to communicate via reliable signaling information. This fact permits us to perform a simple and efficient traceback. In our novel approach, we use 2 radios: the first one transmits normal data packets whereas the second is reserved to exchange IP traceback information. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed via simulation analysis using the Network Simulator 3.
