Abstract

How can we teach a computer to recognize 10,000 different actions? Deep learning has evolved from supervised and unsupervised to self-supervised approaches. In this paper, we present a new contrastive learning-based framework for decision tree-based classification of actions, including human-human interactions (HHI) and human-object interactions (HOI). The key idea is to translate the original multi-class action recognition into a series of binary classification tasks on a pre-constructed decision tree. Under the new framework of contrastive learning, we present the design of an interaction adjacent matrix (IAM) with skeleton graphs as the backbone for modeling various action-related attributes such as periodicity and symmetry. Through the construction of various pretext tasks, we obtain a series of binary classification nodes on the decision tree that can be combined to support higher-level recognition tasks. Experimental justification for the potential of our approach in real-world applications ranges from interaction recognition to symmetry detection. 137. MorphGANFormer: Transformer-based Face Morphing and De-Morphing

Abstract

Semantic face image manipulation has received increasing attention in recent years. StyleGAN-based approaches to face morphing are among the leading techniques; however, they often suffer from noticeable blurring and artifacts as a result of the uniform attention in the latent feature space. In this paper, we propose to develop a transformer-based alternative to face morphing and demonstrate its superiority to StyleGAN-based methods. Our contributions are threefold. First, inspired by GANformer, we introduce a bipartite structure to exploit long-range interactions in face images for iterative propagation of information from latent variables to salient facial features. Special loss functions are designed to support the optimization of face morphing. Second, we extend the study of transformer-based face morphing to demorphing by presenting an effective defense strategy with access to a reference image using the same generator of MorphGANFormer. Such demorphing is conceptually similar to unmixing of hyperspectral images but operates in the latent (instead of pixel) space. Third, for the first time, we address a fundamental issue of vulnerability-detectability trade-off for face morphing studies. It is argued that neither doppelganger norrandom pair selection is optimal, and a Lagrangian multiplier-based approach should be used to achieve an improved trade-off between recognition vulnerability and attack detectability., Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

Achieving accurate and automated tumor segmentation plays an important role in both clinical practice and radiomics research. Segmentation in medicine is now often performed manually by experts, which is a laborious, expensive and error-prone task. Manual annotation relies heavily on the experience and knowledge of these experts. In addition, there is much intra- and interobserver variation. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a method that can automatically segment tumor target regions. In this paper, we propose a deep learning segmentation method based on multimodal positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), which combines the high sensitivity of PET and the precise anatomical information of CT. We design an improved spatial attention network(ISA-Net) to increase the accuracy of PET or CT in detecting tumors, which uses multi-scale convolution operation to extract feature information and can highlight the tumor region location information and suppress the non-tumor region location information. In addition, our network uses dual-channel inputs in the coding stage and fuses them in the decoding stage, which can take advantage of the differences and complementarities between PET and CT. We validated the proposed ISA-Net method on two clinical datasets, a soft tissue sarcoma(STS) and a head and neck tumor(HECKTOR) dataset, and compared with other attention methods for tumor segmentation. The DSC score of 0.8378 on STS dataset and 0.8076 on HECKTOR dataset show that ISA-Net method achieves better segmentation performance and has better generalization. Conclusions: The method proposed in this paper is based on multi-modal medical image tumor segmentation, which can effectively utilize the difference and complementarity of different modes. The method can also be applied to other multi-modal data or single-modal data by proper adjustment.

140. The Influential Factor Analysis of Classification Partition Management Mode on the Emergency Triage

Abstract

Background: The aim of the study was to discuss on the influential factors of the mode of classification of partition management in the emergency triage. Method: Retrospectively analyzing the effects of emergency triage of 156 cases who adopted the classification partition management mode during Oct 2014 to Oct 2015 in Xuzhou Central Hospital (Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China). They were divided into triage success group of 108 cases and triage failure group of 48 cases. Comparing the single factor analysis and multi-factor analysis, and selecting possible influential factors. Result: According to the single factor analysis, for the patients who came to the doctor in the daytime and working days, the higher education degree and compliance they had, the faster the back-show time of emergency inspect and check came back, the more comprehensive the body examination and disease history taking were done, the simpler the disease condition was, the higher triage success rate they received. Compared to the emergency observation time between two groups, the difference was not statistically significant. According to the multi-factor analysis, the emergency check and examination back-show time, the comprehensive degree of body examination and disease history taking and the complexity degree of disease could be the independent risk factors for triage success. Conclusion: Simplify the examination procedure, improve the efficiency of back-show and acquire detail disease information are important methods for the improvement of triage success.

141. Antibiotic-loaded articulating cement spacers in two stage revision for infected total knee arthroplasty: individual antibiotic treatment and early results of 21 cases

Abstract

【Abstract】 Objective: To detail our early experi-ence and technique of a modified two-stage reimplantation protocol using antibiotic-loaded articulating cement spac-ers (ALACSs) for treatment of late periprosthetic infection after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: From January 2006 to February 2009, a series of 21 patients (21 knees) with late infected TKAs were treated by radical debridement and removal of all components and cement, and then articulating spacers were implanted using antibiotic-impregnated bone cement. For this purpose, 4 g vancomycin powder was mixed with per 40 g cement. Gradu-ated knee motion and partial weight bearing activity were encouraged in the interval period. Each patient received an individual systemic organism-sensitive antimicrobial therapy for 4.9 (range, 2-8) weeks followed by a second-stage TKA revision. All the patients were regularly followed up using the American Knee Society Scoring System. Results: Each case underwent a successful two-stage exchange and had infection eradicated, none had recurrent infection after an average of 32.2 (range, 17-54) months of follow-up. Preoperatively, the mean knee score was 53.5 points, function score was 27.3 points, pain score was 25.7 points, range of motion (ROM) was 82.0°, extensor lag was 2°. Between stages, the mean knee score was increased to 61.3 points, function score to 45 points, pain score to 35 points, ROM to 88.2°, and extensor lag to 3.4°. At final fol-low-up, the mean knee score was further increased to 82.1 points, function score to 74.5 points, pain score to 42.1 points, ROM to 94.3°, and knee extension lag to 1.9°. The interval period was 11.5 (range, 6-32) weeks. The amount of bone loss was unchanged between stages. No patient de-veloped noticeable dysfunction of the liver or kidney or other complications such as impaired wound healing, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, cerebrovascular accidents, etc. Conclusions: Treating infected TKA with ALACS avoids spacer-related bone loss, preserves knee function between stages, and eradicates infection effectively with-out significant complications. The early clinical results are inspiring. The authors believe that radical and repeated (if needed) debridement, individual application of systemic antibiotics, and reasonable timing judgement upon the sec-ondary revision are all key factors related to a successful outcome with two-stage reimplantation procedure for in-fected TKA.
