Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) materials have received enormous attention due to their extraodinary optical and electrical properties, among which MoS2 is the most typical one. As thickness increases from monolayer to multilayer, the photoluminescence (PL) of MoS2 is gradually quenched due to the direct-to-indirect band gap transition. How to enhance PL response and decrease the layer dependence in multilayer MoS2 is still a challenging task. In this work, we report, for the first time, simultaneous generation of three PL peaks at around 1.3, 1.4 and 1.8 eV on multilayer MoS2 bubbles. The temperature dependent PL measurements indicate that the two peaks at 1.3 and 1.4 eV are phonon-assisted indirect-gap transitions while the peak at 1.8 eV is the direct-gap transition. Using first-principles calculations, the band structure evolution of multilayer MoS2 under strain is studied, from which the origin of the three PL peaks of MoS2 bubbles is further confirmed. Moreover, PL standing waves are observed in MoS2 bubbles that creates Newton-Ring-like patterns. This work demonstrates that the bubble structure may provide new opportunities for engineering the electronic structure and optical properties of layered materials.

We have systematically investigated the mass spectrum and rearrangement decay properties of the exotic tetraquark states with four different flavors using a color-magnetic interaction model. Their masses are estimated by assuming that the $X(4140)$ is a $cs\bar{c}\bar{s}$ tetraquark state and their decay widths are obtained by assuming that the Hamiltonian for decay is a constant. According to the adopted method, we find that the most stable states are probably the isoscalar $bs\bar{u}\bar{d}$ and $cs\bar{u}\bar{d}$ with $J^P=0^+$ and $1^+$. The width for most unstable tetraquarks is about tens of MeVs, but that for unstable $cu\bar{s}\bar{d}$ and $cs\bar{u}\bar{d}$ can be around 100 MeV. For the $X(5568)$, our method cannot give consistent mass and width if it is a $bu\bar{s}\bar{d}$ tetraquark state. For the $I(J^P)=0(0^+),0(1^+)$ double-heavy $T_{bc}=bc\bar{u}\bar{d}$ states, their widths can be several MeVs., Comment: Version published in PRD. 18 pages, 1 figure, 9 tables

Microgravity eases several constraints limiting experiments with ultracold and condensed atoms on ground. It enables extended times of flight without suspension and eliminates the gravitational sag for trapped atoms. These advantages motivated numerous initiatives to adapt and operate experimental setups on microgravity platforms. We describe the design of the payload, motivations for design choices, and capabilities of the Bose-Einstein Condensate and Cold Atom Laboratory (BECCAL), a NASA-DLR collaboration. BECCAL builds on the heritage of previous devices operated in microgravity, features rubidium and potassium, multiple options for magnetic and optical trapping, different methods for coherent manipulation, and will offer new perspectives for experiments on quantum optics, atom optics, and atom interferometry in the unique microgravity environment on board the International Space Station.

Symmetron field is one of the promising candidates of dark energy scalar fields. In all viable candidate field theories, a screening mechanism is implemented to be consistent with existing tests of general relativity. The screening effect in the symmetron theory manifests its influence only to the thin outer layer of a bulk object, where inside a dense material the symmetry of the field is restored and no force exists. For pointlike particles such as atoms, the depth of screening is larger than the size of the particle, such that the screening mechanism is ineffective and the symmetron force is fully expressed on the atomic test particles. Extra force measurements using atom interferometry are thus much more sensitive than bulk mass based measurements, and indeed have placed the most stringent constraints on the parameters characterizing symmetron field in certain region. There is however no clear direct connection between the laboratory measurements and astrophysical observations, where the constraints are far separated by 10 orders of magnitude in the parameter space. In this paper, we present a closed-form expression for the symmetron acceleration of realistic atomic experiments. The expression is validated through numerical simulations for a terrestrial fifth-force experiment using atom interferometry. As a result, we show the connection of the atomic measurement constraints to the astrophysical ones. We also estimate the attainable symmetron constraints from a previously proposed experiment in space intended for test of chameleon theory. We speculate on the development and availability of new innovative propulsion techniques in the 2040s, that will allow us to fly a spacecraft outside the Solar System (at 150 AU and more) in a reasonable amount of time, in order to directly probe our (gravitational) Solar System neighborhood and answer pressing questions regarding the dark sector (dark energy and dark matter). We identify two closely related main science goals, as well as secondary objectives that could be fulfilled by a mission dedicated to probing the local dark sector: (i) begin the exploration of gravitation's low-acceleration regime with a man-made spacecraft and (ii) improve our knowledge of the local dark matter and baryon densities. Those questions can be answered by directly measuring the gravitational potential with an atomic clock on-board a spacecraft on an outbound Solar System orbit, and by comparing the spacecraft's trajectory with that predicted by General Relativity through the combination of ranging data and the in-situ measurement (and correction) of non-gravitational accelerations with an on-board accelerometer. Despite a wealth of new experiments getting online in the near future, that will bring new knowledge about the dark sector, it is very unlikely that those science questions will be closed in the next two decades. More importantly, it is likely that it will be even more urgent than currently to answer them.
