The present study investigated the associations between the three psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness) derived from the Self‐determination Theory and well‐being [health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) and subjective well‐being (SWB)] among older people in Hong Kong SAR, China. A cross‐sectional study was conducted from May to August 2018 in Hong Kong. A total of 230 participants aged 60‐year‐old or above were recruited from eight community service centres. Results from adjusted regression analysis showed that, among the three psychological needs, competence and relatedness were positively associated with SWB, while relatedness was positively associated with physical health domain of HRQOL. The three psychological needs had no significant associations with mental health domain of HRQOL. Interventions to improve HRQOL and SWB should promote older people's sense of competence and relatedness. Longitudinal studies are warranted to clarify the causal relationships and look at other physical, mental and social health outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Literature on the age at first anal intercourse (AFAI) among men who have sex with men (MSM) is limited. We aimed to elucidate the evolution of AFAI and the factors associated with early AFAI, based on a large sample of MSM in China. Methods: We collected information on the demographics and sexual behaviours of MSM from seven large cities in China from 2012 to 2013. Blood samples were collected for HIV serology. AFAI was calculated for MSM born in different time periods. Linear regression models were used to explore factors associated with younger AFAI. Results: A total of 4491 MSM (median age: 27 years, median AFAI: 21 years) were recruited. Median AFAI decreased steadily from 33 years of age among MSM born from 1940 to 1959 to 18 years of age among MSM born from 1990 to 1996. Factors significantly associated with younger AFAI included more recent birth cohort, being unmarried or living with a male partner, being a student or industry worker, the gender of the first partner being male, and using Rush or Ecstasy in the past six months (p for all Conclusions: AFAI among MSM in China has considerably decreased over the past few decades. BACKGROUND: Circulating metals from both the natural environment and pollution have been linked to cardiovascular disease. However, few prospective studies have investigated the associations between exposure to multiple metals and incident coronary heart disease (CHD). OBJECTIVES: We conducted a nested case-control study in the prospective Dongfeng-Tongji cohort, to investigate the prospective association between plasma metal concentrations and incident CHD. METHODS: A total of 1,621 incident CHD cases and 1,621 controls free of major cardiovascular disease at baseline and follow-up visits were matched on age ([+ or -]5years) and sex. We measured baseline fasting plasma concentrations of 23 metals and used conditional logistic regression models to estimate odds ratios (ORs) of CHD for metal concentrations categorized according to quartiles in controls. RESULTS: Five metals (titanium, arsenic, selenium, aluminum, and barium) were significantly associated with CHD based on trend tests from single-metal multivariable models adjusted for established cardiovascular risk factors. When all five were included in the same model, adjusted ORs for barium and aluminum were close to the null, whereas associations with titanium, arsenic, and selenium were similar to estimates from single-metal models, and ORs comparing extreme quartiles were 1.32 (95% CI: 1.03, 1.69; p-trend = 0.04), 1.78 (95% CI: 1.29, 2.46; p-trend = 0.001), and 0.67 (95% CI: 0.52, 0.85; p-trend = 0.001), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that incident CHD was positively associated with plasma levels of titanium and arsenic, and inversely associated with selenium. The Ordos Basin is the largest and most important intracontinental sedimentary depression in China, and a significant amount of crude oil resources has developed within this Mesozoic formation. High-grade organic-rich shale is prevalent in the large-scale areas of the Chang 7 sedimentary stage and provides essential hydrocarbon resources for abundant oil enrichment in the Mesozoic. This research investigated the geochemical characteristics of Chang 7 shale using core samples and well logs and via laboratory tests. In addition, the microscopic components of the shale organic matter (OM), biological marker compounds, carbon isotopes, enrichment grade of trace elements, and elemental ratio were analysed systematically. Moreover, the aspects related to the shale OM source, sedimentary environment and resource potential were evaluated. Our results revealed that spherical alginate and calcium spherical alginate were predominant in the micropetrological components of the shale. Many biomarkers, including n -alkanes, steranes and terpanes, were detected in the gas chromatography – mass spectrometry spectra. An analysis of n -alkanes, regular sterane shapes (C21−/C22− and C26+C27/C28+C29), odd–even predominance index (OEP) and carbon preference index (CPI) values and carbon isotope distributions showed that OM was produced from aquatic organisms. The indicators of trace elements, such as Sr/Ba and V/V+Ni, combined with the biomarker compound in Pr/Ph and the gammacerane index showed the presence of a semi-deep – deep lake environment containing fresh–brackish water. In addition, the hydrocarbon conversion rate index and shale rock pyrolysis parameters revealed that Chang 7 has a high hydrocarbon generation ability and hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency. Background: Gastric carcinoma (GC) is the third most frequent malignancy and the second most common cancer-related cause of death cause worldwide. Gastric intraepithelial neoplasia (GIN) is a well-documented precancerous lesion of GC. In this case–control study, we comprehensively explored the clinical and pathological characteristics of GIN, with the aim to identify its potential risk factors. Patients and methods: A total of 630 consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection or mucosal resection for GIN were initially included. The detailed characteristics of all eligible patients and well-matched healthy controls were recorded and analyzed. Both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed and presented with odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidential interval (CI), with additional subgroup analyses based on lesion location. Results: A total of 485 GIN-eligible patients were selected, among which 156 had proximal GIN. After follow-up, 434 patients with GIN and 310 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in the comparative analyses. Family cancer history (FCH); alcohol abuse; tobacco abuse; intake of high sodium, preserved food, spicy food, and less fruit; Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection; and atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia were more frequent in GIN patients. Thus, FCH (OR =3.485, 95% CI: 2.031–5.981), high sodium intake (OR =2.830, 95% CI: 1.645–4.868), less fruit intake (OR =4.082, 95% CI: 2.515–6.625), Hp infection (OR =2.307, 95% CI: 1.417–3.755), and atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia (OR =15.070, 95% CI: 8.999–25.237) were independent risk factors for GIN. Further subgroup analyses demonstrated that the specific independent risk factor for proximal GIN was age (OR =2.001, 95% CI: 1.003–3.994), whereas that for distal GIN was intake of high sodium (OR =3.467, 95% CI: 1.896–6.338). Conclusion: This study reported a comprehensive overview of the clinical and pathological characteristics of GIN. The significance of Internet gaming time's dosage effect on Internet gaming disorder (IGD) may depend on gamers' characteristics. Majority of the gamers with extensive gaming time do not develop IGD. This study investigated moderation effects of cognitive/psychosocial factors on the association between Internet gaming time and probable IGD among adolescent Internet gamers in China. The cross-sectional, self-administered, and anonymous survey was conducted from October to December of 2018 among seven conveniently selected secondary school students in Chengdu and Guangzhou, China. Probable IGD was measured by using the DSM-5 checklist. The cognitive/psychosocial moderators were assessed by using validated instruments. Of the 2,503 students who had played Internet games (past 12 months), the prevalence of probable IGD was 17.7%. Internet gaming time [adjusted odds ratio (ORa) = 1.06], the three maladaptive cognitions specific to Internet gaming (perceived overvaluation of rewards, perceived urges, and perceived unwillingness to stop playing) (ORa = 1.17 to 1.44), and the two types of psychosocial factors (loneliness and social anxiety) (ORa = 1.09 to 1.13) were independent risk factors of probable IGD. Moderation analyses showed that overall maladaptive cognitions, perceived urges, and loneliness (but not the other two types of cognitions and social anxiety) were significant moderators of the association between Internet gaming time and probable IGD. The dose-effect relationship of Internet gaming time on probable IGD was significantly and slightly stronger among those with higher levels of perceived urges and loneliness. So far, Puguang gas field is the largest and most abundant oversize marine carbonate reservoir that has been exploited in China. The range of H2S and CO2 content in natural gas is 13% -- 18% (v) and 8% -- 10% (v) respectively, organic sulfur content is 340.6 mg/m³. The conventional acid gas removal process is not applicable. By research and analysis on high sulfur natural gas purification technology, the gas purification process of Puguang gas field is set up. MDEA is selected as main absorption solvent, and organic sulfur is removed by catalytic reaction. To control the CO2 absorption, an interstage cooler is et between the first main absorber and the second absorber. The rich MDEA from acid gas removal unit and tail gas treating unit is regenerated in the same stripper to reduce the cost and energy consumption. This technology has been applied in Puguang gas field for more than one year, and the technical specifications meet requirements, the content of H2S in product is tower than 6 mg/m³, CO2 is lower than 3%(v), and the total sulfur is lower than 200 mg/m³. Adolescents encounter numerous challenges and need to restructure their social relationships when they enter secondary schools. Relationship adaptation is critical and failure in adaptation may be associated with Internet gaming disorder (IGD). This novel study investigated the association between relationship adaptation and IGD and related mediation mechanisms via social support and loneliness among first-year secondary school students in Shanghai and Xi'an, China in 2018. Of 2573 participants, the prevalence of IGD was 13.1%. Relationship adaptation, social support, and loneliness were all significantly associated with IGD. The association between relationship adaptation and IGD was fully mediated by three indirect paths, including relationship adaptation → social support → IGD (effect size = 35.5%), relationship adaptation → loneliness → IGD (effect size = 34.3%), and relationship adaptation → social support → loneliness → IGD (effect size = 6.1%). In conclusion, the observed high prevalence of IGD among first-year secondary school students in China was associated with poor relationship adaptation. The full mediation effects via social support and loneliness suggest that modification of these two psychosocial attributes may effectively reduce the harmful impacts of poor relationship adaptation on adolescent IGD. Background: The COVID-19 epidemic may elevate mental distress and depressive symptoms in various populations in China. Objective: This study investigates the levels of depression and mental distress due to COVID-19, and the associations between cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors, and depression and mental distress due to COVID-19 among university students in China. Methods: A large-scale online cross-sectional study (16 cities in 13 provinces) was conducted among university students from February 1 to 10, 2020, in China; 23,863 valid questionnaires were returned. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 was used to assess depression. Structural equation modeling was performed to test mediation and suppression effects. Results: Of the 23,863 participants, 47.1% (n=11,235) reported high or very high levels of one or more types of mental distress due to COVID-19; 39.1% (n=9326) showed mild to severe depression. Mental distress due to COVID-19 was positively associated with depression. All but one factor (perceived infection risks, perceived chance of controlling the epidemic, staying at home, contacted people from Wuhan, and perceived discrimination) were significantly associated with mental distress due to COVID-19 and depression. Mental distress due to COVID-19 partially mediated and suppressed the associations between some of the studied factors and depression (effect size of 6.0%-79.5%). Conclusions: Both mental distress due to COVID-19 and depression were prevalent among university students in China; the former may have increased the prevalence of the latter. The studied cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors related to COVID-19 may directly or indirectly (via mental distress due to COVID-19) affect depression. Background: Adolescent males were consistently reported to have a higher prevalence of Internet gaming disorder (IGD) than females. The mechanisms underlying the sex difference were potentially important for designing sex-specific interventions but were under-researched. Maladaptive cognitions were potential mediators between sex and adolescent IGD, as they were positively associated with both sex and adolescent IGD.Methods: A total of 3,075 students participated in a cross-sectional survey that was conducted in Guangzhou and Chengdu, China. IGD was measured by using the DSM-5 checklist and maladaptive cognitions were measured by the validated Chinese version of Revised Internet Gaming Cognition Scale (C-RIGCS). Structural equation modeling was used to test the mediation hypotheses.Results: Adolescent males showed a significantly higher prevalence of IGD than females (19.2% versus 7.8%, p < .05). Significant positive associations were found between sex and both maladaptive cognitions and IGD. The sex difference in IGD prevalence was partially mediated by the overall scale of C-RIGCS and its three subscales (i.e., perceived overvaluation of rewards of Internet gaming, perceived urges for playing Internet games, and perceived unwillingness to stop playing without completion of gaming tasks), with large mediation effect sizes ranging from 35.0% to 60.0% (Sobel test, p < ,01).Conclusions: The higher levels of maladaptive cognitions among adolescent males explained a relatively large part of the substantially higher prevalence of IGD among adolescent males than females. Designing rational heterostructures of high-performance electroactive materials on conductive substrates with hierarchical structures is critical for advancing electrochemical energy storage technologies. In this study, a unique spatial structure is fabricated by vertically aligning two-dimensional (2D) structures of Co-ZIF-L on conductive nickel foam (NF) substrate through interruption of ZIF-67 formation. This is followed by an innovative electrochemical synthesis method that disrupts unstable surface coordination bonds in Co-ZIF-L, enabling the in-situ generation of Co(OH) 2. The resulting Co(OH) 2 @ZIF-L/NF binder-free electrodes feature a hierarchical spatial structure and are synthesized in approximately 30 s. These electrodes showcase exceptional area capacity of 3.1 C cm−2 at 1 mA cm−2, attributed to their high specific surface area and layered architecture that promotes electrolyte penetration. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the Co(OH) 2 @ZIF-L nanostructures have superior electrical conductivity compared to the individual components. Furthermore, a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) based on Co(OH) 2 @ZIF-L/NF//AC exhibits an impressive energy density of 42 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 184.7 W kg−1. This research provides new insights into the efficient synthesis of high-performance electroactive materials with unique spatial structures and expands the potential applications of ZIF materials.
