Abstract

EfficientCO2capture by chemical absorption is currentlygaining interests for the control greenhouse gas emissions. In thiswork, a nonaqueous process was developed to regenerate CO2below 373 K by removing methanol first after the hybrid solventof monoethanolamine (MEA) and methanol had absorbed CO2. A model was accordingly developed to analyze the performance ofthe desorption process. Experiments were performed to determine themissing reaction kinetics of nonaqueous solvent regeneration of CO2to help develop the model. The predicted gas concentration,axial velocity, energy consumption, and desorption efficiency agreedwell with the stripper experimental data. A parametric analysis wasconducted to investigate the effects of temperature, pressure, leansolvent loading, gas/liquid ratio, packing, and internals on the energyconsumption and desorption efficiency. All analyses were performedunder three defined desorption conditions: N2, methanolvapor, and steam as purge gases. Major energy savings were clearlyidentified because of feasible desorption temperatures below 373 Kunder nonaqueous desorption conditions. N2purge gas desorptionconditions offered the minimum energy consumption of 2.28 GJ/t, being24% below the typical value of 3.0 GJ/t. Abstract

Weperformed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on multiaminesolutions of CO2capture to optimize the conventional aminesolvents (MEA, MDEA, DEA, AMP, and TEA). A synergy molecular dynamicsmodel (SMD) was developed for the CO2and amine solutions,in which the molecular synergy number (MSN) was introduced to quantifyinteractions between diffusion and molecule motion. The SMD modelinvolved with the force field was validated with experimental datafrom CO2, amine, and water systems. The best synergy forthe MDEA-DEA-TEA system was achieved at the ratio of 3:1:1, with aminimum MSN being 3.89. The overall synergy in ternary amine systemswas found to be better than that in quaternary and quintuple aminesystems. Several optimized multiamine solution systems were identified.The MDEA-DEA-TEA solution could simultaneously provide better diffusivityand less drag force with mass transfer coefficient being 33.33 % higherthan that of AMP. The MEA-MDEA-DEA-TEA solution could improve CO2transport by increasing 18 % of diffusivity when varyingthe ratio from 1:1:1:1 to 2:1:1:1. Abstract

In this paper, a new fabrication process of clad slab by semicontinuous casting under direct current magnetic field is presented. The influence of casting temperature and casting speed on temperature field as well as the distribution of liquid fraction during the fabrication of clad slab are numerically studied with the engineering software FLUENT. The simulation results show that the casting speed has more influence on producing well clad slab than casting temperature. The casting temperature should be controlled to be as low as possible. When the casting speed is higher than 0·002 m s<superscript>-1</superscript>, it will make the two kinds of alloy melts mix badly. According to the optimal processing parameters obtained from the simulation results, the clad slab of 3003 and 4004 wrought aluminium alloys, which have different properties on both sides, is successfully produced. Fifteen of the 56 patients underwent combined 23GTSV and cataract surgery. SIA was evaluated with Naeser's polar method using the simulated keratometric values obtained with corneal topography. Preoperative and postoperative KP and ΔKP values were compared in the 23GTSV only group and the combined 23GTSV and cataract surgery group.Results:There were no significant serial changes between the preoperative and postoperative Sim K astigmatism or KP values in the 23GTSV only group. In the 23GTSV only group, the ΔKP (90) was negative (−0.10±0.78) at 1 month postoperatively, but it became positive (0.13±0.85) at 3–4 months postoperatively. The ΔKP (135) showed serially decreasing negative values, −0.02±0.80 at 1 month postoperatively and −0.08±0.60 at 3–4 months postoperatively. In the combined cataract surgery group, the 1- and 3–4-month postoperative ΔKP (135) values were −0.64±0.50 and −0.71±0.48, respectively, which represented a significant decrease compared with the 23GTSV only group (P<0.001, Mann–Whitney U-test). Although statistically insignificant, the ΔKP (135) value was more negative in the sclerotomy-sutured group (n=6) than the sclerotomy non-sutured group (n=35) at 1 month postoperatively (−0.67±1.19 vs0.09±0.67, P=0.110, Mann–Whitney U-test).Conclusion:The 23GTSV does not induce significant SIA in the early postoperative period. Bevacizumab was retrieved multiple times from a single original vial as needed and then discarded on the same day at hospital A and C, or prepared as a single dose aliquot vial at a compounding pharmacy in the hospital B.ResultsThe incidence of endophthalmitis after IVBI was 2/2020 (0.099%). Two patients receiving IVBI on the same day, but by different surgeons in different sites in hospital B, developed acute endophthalmitis. S. marcescens was isolated from the vitreous sample of the two patients. Molecular typing with pulsed field gel electrophoresis showed that the organisms were of the same strain, which suggested that the drug was contaminated at the pharmacy.ConclusionsEndophthalmitis is a rare complication after IVBI and can be caused by contaminated aliquot drug. Serratia is one of the causative organisms of acute endophthalmitis, which can have devastating consequences, despite the treatment. A compounding pharmacy in a hospital might not be able to guarantee that aliquoted drug is free of contamination for the IVBI. Evaluation of natural course with objective criteria will establish accurate recovery rates and important factors for recovery.MethodsRetrospective chart review was performed on 206 patients who visited a neuro-ophthalmic department with acquired third, fourth, and sixth nerve palsy. Aetiology and results of ocular exam on each visit were reviewed, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent factors affecting recovery.ResultsThe sixth cranial nerve was affected most frequently (n=108, 52.4%) and vascular disease (n=64, 31.1%) was the most common aetiology. Recovery was evaluated with change of deviation angle for 108 patients, who were first examined within a month of onset and followed up for at least 6 months. Ninety-two (85.2%) patients showed overall (at least partial) recovery and 73 (67.6%) showed complete recovery. In univariate analysis, initial deviation angle was found to be only significant factor associated with complete recovery (P=0.007) and most patients who experienced successful management of treatable underlying disease showed recovery.ConclusionsWith objective criteria based on deviation angle, overall recovery rate from the third, fourth, and sixth nerve palsy was 85.2%. Methods: This was a consecutive observational case and laboratory observational series. We performed ILM peeling in patients with an idiopathic macular hole (MH, n = 10) and diabetic macular oedema (DME, n = 10) without vital dye staining such as ICG or Trypan Blue. We also performed membrane peeling in patients with an idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM, n = 10). Then, the peeled membranes were stained with ICG (1.25 mg/mI) beyond the operation field and examined under a light microscope. After this examination, membranes were fixed with glutaraldehyde, and an electron microscope was used to confirm whether they were ILMs or thin ERM. The concordance rates between surgeon's intraoperative impression of membranes (SI), IE-ICG results (IT) and histological findings (HF) of peeled membranes were evaluated to reveal the efficacy of IE-ICG. Results: The ILMs were homogenously stained with ICG dye (posivite IE-ICG), and the ERMs were not stained at all by ICG dye (negative IE-ICG). The concordance rate between IT and HF was 100% in all three groups of patients. However, concordance rates between SI and IT were 100% in MH, 80% in DME and 50% in ERM, respectively. The surgeon's impression of the membrane is inaccurate, especially in patients with idiopathic epiretinal membrane. Conclusion: Considering the cost, difficulties of tissue preparation, and the time-consuming process of histological confirmation of an ILM, IE-ICG may be a useful alternative for the differentiation of a peeled ILM and a thin ERM. It is found that, as in the steady-state case, although the temperature varies, each SET can be treated independently, even in the transient case when the interconnection capacitance is large enough. However, the value of the load capacitance CL of the interconnections for the independent treatment of SETs is approximately ten times larger than that of the steady-state case. A compact SET transient model is developed for transient circuit simulation by SPICE. The developed model is based on a linearised equivalent circuit and the solution of a master equation is done by the programming capabilities of the SmartSpice. Exact delineation of several simulation time scales and the physics-based compact model make it possible to accurately simulate hybrid circuits in the timescales down to several tens of picoseconds. Simplified analytic front surface potentials in the various regions of operation are connected by smoothing functions, to derive a single formula for the drain current. SOI devices are known to have suppressed short-channel effects, lower parasitic capacitances, and a higher packing density. Furthermore, they can be fabricated by a simpler process and they are latch-upfree. Methods: Vision screening was conducted on 36 973 kindergarten children aged 3-5 years in a stepwise manner. The first step was home screening using a set of five picture cards and a questionnaire. The children who did not pass the first step (VA <0.5 in at least one eye or any abnormal responses on the questionnaire) were retested with regular vision charts at the regional public healthcare centres. After this retest, some children were referred to ophthalmologists. The referral criteria for visual acuity were <0.5 at 3 years and <0.63 at 4 or 5 years in at least one eye. Results: Of those screened, 7116 (19.2%) children did not pass the home screening tests and 2058 (28.9%) out of the 7116 were referred. The results of the ophthalmological examination in eye clinics were only available for 894 children (43.4%) of those who were referred. The rest of the children did not visit ophthalmologists because they had been checked at an eye clink, were currently under treatment, or for personal reasons. Refractive errors were found in 608 (1.6%) children. Astigmatism was associated in 78.2% of ametropes. Amblyopia was discovered in 149 (0.4%) children and refractive error was the major aetiology with a predominant rate (82.5%). Manifest strabismus was detected in 52 children. The positive predictive value of vision screening for any ophthalmological disorder was 0.77, and 0.49 for significant disorders requiring treatment. X-ray structures of these HIV-1 protease bound inhibitors are used as templates to generate the most probable bioactive conformations of the inhibitors. A convex hull computation algorithm is applied to each structure generated. The frequency of atoms lying on the vertexes of each hull is counted. Vertexes of the same atomic charge state are then gathered together as a set of commonly exposed groups for all the structures generated. The first 3D descriptor is computed as the maximum molecular path length among any three distinct commonly exposed groups, while the second 3D one is computed as the maximum molecular path length among any three atoms of nonconvex hull vertexes. We find that the 73 HIV-1 protease inhibitors can be classified by the first 3D descriptor into two groups, which agrees with the result of visual classification using the activity data as a criterion for these compounds. The classification scheme is then used to classify a database of 427 active trypsin inhibitors and their inactive analogues. The structures of these compounds are generated theoretically from steps of energy minimization and molecular dynamics. Classification for all these compounds is performed using the SYBYL hierarchical clustering method on the first 3D descriptor and then the second 3D one computed. It is found that some inactive analogues are completely separated from the active inhibitors at the first stage of classification using the first 3D descriptor. Most of the highly active inhibitors are classified into a cluster at the second stage of classification using the second 3D descriptor. The modifiers used were poly(isoprene−4-vinylpyridine) (PIP−P4VP), poly(styrene−acrylic acid) (PS−PAA), and a hydroxyl-terminated polystyrene (PS−Si(CH<INF>3</INF>)<INF>2</INF>OH). The ternary blend systems were rigorously characterized by tracking both interfacial tension and dispersed phase morphology evolution as a function of percent interfacial modifier. The interfacial tension was measured using the breaking thread technique, and the blends for morphology examination were prepared on a Brabender mixer, a predominantly shear mixing device. Both the interfacial tension and the morphology studies confirm that the best modifier was the PIP−P4VP followed by PS−Si(CH<INF>3</INF>)<INF>2</INF>OH, and the PS−PAA copolymer did not have any influence on the system whatsoever. The area occupied per molecule at the PVC/LLDPE interface estimated from the emulsification curve (morphology data) for the poly(isoprene−4-vinylpyridine) is approximately 6 nm<SUP>2</SUP> per molecule. It is shown that PVC/LLDPE, due to the low interfacial tension of the unmodified blend, represents a case where the dynamic coalescence contribution to morphology development is essentially negligible. This has allowed the relationship between morphology and interfacial tension to be studied in a direct fashion. A comparison of the limiting values of morphology and interfacial tension, in the presence of the modifiers, compared to the unmodified system unambiguously indicates a close 1:1 relationship between the two in the absence of coalescence effects. This direct dependence between dispersed phase size and interfacial tension is observed for all three systems and is independent of the relative efficacy of the modifier itself. We constructed the geometrical lattice structure in the vicinity of the domain walls and observed the tilted angle of the W'-walls geometrically. Using the polarization microscope we investigated the temperature dependence of the domain wall and the change of the conoscope image at the phase transition temperature. Near Tc. the narrow domains between two W'-walls were widened and new needle shape W-walls appeared. An extensive database on diffusion was collected through the literature in order to evaluate the proposed equation and to determine the accuracy of the predictions with no additional parameter adjustment. The predictions were good, with an average absolute deviation of 8.2% for 113 binary systems and 1303 data points. The input data required for the correlations are the solute molecular weight, temperature, and density and the solvent basic properties (molecular weight, critical temperature, and critical volume).
