Flexible carbon nanofibers networks (FCNNs) play a crucial role in flexible and portable energy storage devices. Doping conductive and reactive N-atoms can enhance charge transport and transfer properties vital for high energy storage and high power. However, synchronous-ultrahigh conductive-reactive N-atoms doped FCNNs (SH-FCNNs) are still challenged by the N-atoms instability at high temperatures. To resolve this problem, an in-situ synergistic-carbonization-nitridation strategy is reported using polyaniline (PANI) implanted highly porous polyacrylonitrile nanofibers as a precursor. The obtained SH-FCNNs were doped with 5.9 at% conductive and 4.73 at% reactive N-atoms. They exhibit a superhigh specific capacitance (580.9 F g−1@0.5 A g−1) and high-rate capability (307.2 F g−1@128 A g−1). The flexible solid-state supercapacitors can output specific energy and power density of 18.3 Wh kg−1 and 16.9 kW kg−1. As for flexible solid-state Zn-ion batteries, the constructed SH-FCNNs@PANI cathodes have specific energy (290 Wh kg−1@0.159 kW kg−1) and supercapacitor-like power performance (128.1 Wh kg−1@23.3 kW kg−1). The synergistic effects of ultrahigh conductive and reactive N-atoms promote these performances to reach the mountaintop of flexible solid-state energy storage devices. The novel strategy also presents new insights on designing high-performance FCNNs for electrochemical energy storage, catalysts, and sensors.

The former shows the proximity perception ability towards the conductor, and the latter enables proximity detection of the electrically charged objects. Here, by embedding rubrene organic semiconductor proximity sensor (insulator detector) and a parallel plate capacitive proximity sensor (metal detector) on the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastic substrate, we merge two-type proximity sensors in a single platform to realize a flexible, conformal composite proximity sensor, which enables good adherence onto the curved objects and detection of fingers, metal, and insulators, showing the strong application potential in wearable electronics.

The use of cost-effective renewable raw materials to develop electronic devices has been strongly demanded for sustainable and biodegradable green electronics. Here, by taking inspiration from the traditional calligraphy and kirigami/origami arts, we show a novel cuttable and foldable all-paper touch-temperature sensors fabricated by simply brushing the carbon black ink onto the cellulose paper followed by a layer-layer lamination strategy. The use of environmentally friendly common commodities in daily life including carbon black ink and cellulose paper as the main component materials of sensors effectively lowers the cost and has positive impacts on the environment and health. The sensors can be freely cut or folded into the targeted shapes and can even reversibly morph between 2D and 3D configurations without affecting device function. Additionally, the sensors show a discrimination capability toward pressure and temperature. Our fabrication strategy provides a promising approach for creating the low-cost eco-friendly sensors with a versatile pattern design and a morphing shape without sacrificing the global structural integrity and device functionality.

Policosanol exhibits a lipid accumulation alleviating effect, but the underlying mechanisms remains unclear. Bile acids are a significant factor in regulating cholesterol and lipid metabolism homeostasis in mammals. This study was aimed to elucidate the alleviating effect and underlying mechanisms of policosanol on hepatic lipid accumulation through bile acid (BA) metabolism. Policosanol supplementation significantly reduced hepatic triglycerides (19.29%), cholesterol (30.38%) in high fat diet (HFD) induced obese mice (P < 0.05). Furthermore, compared with the control group, HFD decreased the levels of total BAs (TBAs, 37.67%) and cholic acid (CA, 62.74%) in the serum of mice (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, compared to HFD group, policosanol also increased the level of secondary BAs (SBAs) and muricholic acids (MCAs, P < 0.05). qRT-PCR combined with protein level analysis revealed that policosanol significantly decreased sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP-1c) and CD36, and increased the expression level of cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily A member 1 (CYP7A1) and cytochrome P450 Family 27 Subfamily A Member 1 (CYP27A1, P < 0.05). Additionally, in the liver, policosanol was found downregulated the expression of farnesoid X receptor (FXR)-small heterodimer partner (SHP), and activate the Takeda G-coupled protein receptor 5 (TGR5)-adenosine-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (APMK) signaling pathway (P < 0.05). Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR)-α, hormone sensitive lipase (HSL), and carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT)-1α also significantly increased in HP group (P < 0.05). The aforementioned results reveal that the potential mechanism of policosanol in alleviating liver lipid accumulation is to promote BA synthesis and lipolysis through regulating the cross-talk of the AMPK-FXR-TGR5. New insight for the application of policosanol as an anti-fatty liver functional food ingredient or supplement is also provided. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Policosanol is an important active component of cereals and insect waxes (15-80%). However, almost no policosanol in refined foods such as clear corn germ oil and wheat flour. This study showed that oral administration of policosanol can significantly reduce triglyceride and cholesterol levels in the liver through affecting AMPK-TGR5-FXR cross-talk, whereas no significant toxicological effect is reported in human and mouse models. This study may provide theoretical support for the theory of dietary structure and the development of dietary supplements to improve lipid metabolism targeting the "bile acid-AMPK-TGR5" pathway.

Strengthening effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) mainly depends on the interfacial bonding strength which has a decisive influence on comprehensive properties of the composites. However, in CNTs reinforced Cu matrix composites, poor interface bonding due to the lack of wettability between CNTs and Cu matrix has become a bottleneck problem restricting the load-transfer capacity of CNTs. Different from the conventional thoughts of producing interfacial carbides by in-situ reaction with CNTs which will lead to deterioration of structural integrity of CNTs, a novel strategy is used by forming TiC on the surface of intact CNTs through solid phase reaction between the pre-milled CNTs and the Ti powders. The mechanical properties of the composites can be regulated by tailoring the morphology and amount of TiC decorated at the interface. Strong interfacial bonding achieved due to the specially designed interface structure which contributes to the dramatic improvement of strengthening efficiency of CNTs and benefits the plastic deformation of Cu matrix. Consequently, a simultaneous enhancement of tensile strength (281 MPa) and tensile elongation (20.1%) is achieved in the composite with TiC decorated at the interface, and a super high strengthening efficiency (135.8) is realized. The tactic used in our study can provide a reference for the preparation of other CNTs/MMCs.

All-paper sensors that are capable of free cutting and folding maximize the merits of papers, which fully utilize the unique potential of papers in cost effectiveness, flexibility, disposability, biodegradability, and a flexible design. However, most of the paper sensors have applied metals as the electrodes and polyimide/polydimethylsiloxane as the encapsulation/sensitive layers, limiting the advantages of the paper sensor. In this work, an all-paper, shape-designable, and reconfigurable capacitive pressure/proximity sensor is fabricated with multilayered tissue paper as the dielectric and polypyrrole printer paper as the electrode/encapsulation. Without the restriction of heterogeneous materials, the all-paper components enable the sensors' flexible shape design for freely cuttable and foldable 2D and 3D sensors including a 2D braille keyboard and even allow reconfiguration from a 3D box sensor to a 3D candy sensor. Inspired by human eyes, the neuromorphic visual system employs a highly efficient imaging and recognition process, which offers tremendous advantages in image acquisition, data pre-processing, and dynamic storage. However, it is still an enormous challenge to simultaneously simulate the structure, function, and environmental adaptive behavior of the human eye based on one device. Here, a multimodal-synergistic-modulation neuromorphic imaging system based on ultraflexible synaptic transistors is successfully presented and firstly simulates the dry eye imaging behavior at the device level. Moreover, important functions of the human visual system in relation to optoelectronic synaptic plasticity, image erasure and enhancement, real-time preprocessing, and dynamic storage are simulated by versatile devices. This work not only simplifies the complexity of traditional neuromorphic visual systems, but also plays a positive role in the publicity of biomedical eye care.

To further improve the quantum efficiency of atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is crucial for the realization of high-performance optoelectronic applications. To this regard, a few chemical or physical approaches such as superacid treatment, electrical gating, dielectric screening, and laser irradiation have been developed. In particular, the laser irradiation appears to be a more efficient way with good processability and spatial selectivity. However, the underlying mechanism especially about whether chemisorption or physisorption plays a more important role is still debatable. Here, we unravel the mystery of laser irradiation induced photoluminescence enhancement in monolayer WS2 by precisely controlling irradiation time and environment. It is found that the synergetic effect of physisorption and chemisorption is responsible for the photoluminescence enhancement, where the physisorption dominates with more than 74% contribution. The comprehensive understanding of the adsorption mechanism in laser-irradiated TMDs may trigger the potential applications for patterned light source, effective photosensor and ultrathin optical memory.

Background Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is an aggressive liver carcinoma with increasing incidence and mortality. A good auxiliary prognostic prediction tool is desperately needed for the development of treatment strategies. The purpose of this study was to explore the prognostic value of the radiomics nomogram based on enhanced CT in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Methods In this retrospective study, 101 patients with pathological confirmation of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma were recruited. A radiomics nomogram was developed by radiomics score and independent clinical risk factors selecting from multivariate Cox regression. All patients were stratified as high risk and low risk by a nomogram. Model performance and clinical usefulness were assessed by calibration curve, ROC curve, and survival curve. Results A total of 101patients (mean age, 58.2 years old; range 36–79 years old) were included in the study. The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year overall survival rates were 49.5%, 26.6%, and 14.4%, respectively, with a median survival time of 12.2 months in the whole set. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method selected 3 features. Multivariate Cox analysis found three independent prognostic factors. The radiomics nomogram showed a significant prognosis value with overall survival. There was a significant difference in the 1-year and 3-year survival rates of stratified high-risk and low-risk patients in the whole set (30.4% vs. 56.4% and 13.0% vs. 30.6%, respectively, p = 0.018). Conclusions This radiomics nomogram has potential application value in the preoperative prognostic prediction of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and may facilitate in clinical decision-making.

Ion doping strategy is a promising method to enhance the efficiency of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells, however, most of the reported works focus on studying the single ion doping in CZTSSe absorber layers. Here, Li+&Ag+ and Li+&Cd2+ double-ion-doping strategy are applied to improve the microstructure and device performances. We found that the double-ion-doping strategy can obviously increase the grain size, reduce the thickness of fine-grain layers and enhance the device performances. Furthermore, the PCEs of Li+&Ag+ and Li+&Cd2+ doped CZTSSe solar cells are up to 8.87% and 8.39%, respectively. It shows an encouraging improvement of over 43.5% and 35.8% enhancement compared with the traditional method (6.18%), and significantly higher than single ion doping strategy (7.60%, 7.99% and 7.11% for Li+, Ag+, and Cd2+ doped CZTSSe solar cells). In this letter, the dual buffer layers of AgInSbTe (AIST) and monolayer defective graphene (DG) are introduced into amorphous carbon (a-C)-based electrochemical metallization (ECM) type memristor. The advantages of promoting Ag dissolution and localizing cation diffusion region of AIST and DG layers can effectively suppress the well-known current overshoot issue and break the current-retention dilemma. Compared with its counterpart without buffer layer (Ag/a-C/Pt), the device with dual buffer layers (Ag/AIST/DG/a-C/Pt) presents excellent resistive switching (RS) performance, such as lower forming voltage with reduced overshoot current, smaller parameter fluctuations, and better cycling endurance. More importantly, the nonvolatile RS with low operation current of 10 $\mu \text{A}$ and remarkable endurance ( $> {3.1}\times {10}^{{7}}$ cycles) is realized, which is among the best of reported a-C-based ECM memories. Benefit from the low operation current, the device also shows the capacity of multilevel memory with six nonvolatile resistance states through regulating the compliance current.

Plasmonic holography is generally regarded as an effective technology for 3D display that meets the requirements of the human visual system. However, low readout stability and large cross talk in the frequency field during a plasmonic photo-dissolution reaction set a huge obstacle for application of color holography. Herein, we propose a new, to the best of our knowledge, route toward producing exciting frequency sensitive holographic-inscription based on plasmonic nano-Ag adaptive growth. Donor-molecule-doped plasmonic polymers on polyethylene terephthalate substrates exhibit wide spectral response range, accurate optical frequency sensing, and bending durability. The resonant plasmonic particles act as optical antennas and transfer energy to surrounding organic matrices for nanocluster production and non-resonant particle growth. The surface relief hologram is also highly dependent on the excitation frequency, so we successfully obtain a controllable cross-periodic structure with amplitude/phase mixed information, as well as color holographic display. This work provides a bright way to high-density storage, information steganography, and virtual/augmented reality.
