113. Overlooked transportation anisotropies in d-band correlated rare-earth perovskite nickelates

Abstract

Anisotropies in electronic transportations conventionally originate from the nature of low symmetries in crystal structures, and were not anticipated for perovskite oxides, the crystal asymmetricity of which is far below, e.g. van der Waals or topological crystal. Beyond conventional expectations, herein we demonstrate pronounced anisotropies in the inter-band coulomb repulsion dominated electronic transportation behaviors under low-dimensional confinement for the perovskite family of rare-earth nickelates (ReNiO3). From one aspect, imparting bi-axial interfacial strains upon various lattice planes results in extrinsic anisotropies in the abrupt orbital transitions of ReNiO3, and their metal to insulator transition behaviors that elevates the transition temperature beyond the existing merit. From the other aspect, the in-plane orbital entropy associated to the in-plane symmetry of the NiO6 octahedron within ReNiO3 causes intrinsic anisotropies for the gradually orbital transition with temperature to further improve their thermistor transportation properties. The present work unveils the overlooked role of the electronic orbital directionality within low dimensional correlated perovskites that can trigger anisotropic transportation behaviors, in spite of their relatively symmetric crystal structures. Establishing anisotropic transportations integrating the electron correlation and quantum confinement effects will bring in a new freedom for achieving further improvement in transportation properties of multi-functional perovskite oxides.

149. Methods to Determine the Timing of Maize Irrigation When Irrigation Amount is Restricted

Abstract

【Objective】 To reverse the continued decline of dwindling water resources in northern China, most regions have proposed to restrict groundwater extraction for irrigation. Optimizing irrigation timing and making most of natural precipitation and irrigation water is essential to minimizing crop yield loss due to the reduced irrigation amount. The purpose of this paper is to study the optimization of timing of maize irrigation. 【Method】 Models relating maize yield and water usage were established based on crop growth model and soil water-heat coupling model. The model parameters were determined based on data measured from 2017—2020 from a maize field at Wenyuhe Experiment Station in Shanxi province. Meteorological data measured from 1957—2018 at the station was used in the frequency analysis for determining the irrigation amount by dividing the frequency from 5% to 95%. We optimized the timing of the irrigation assuming that the irrigation amount varied from 45 to 105 mm, and the times of irrigation varied from 1 to 5. The K-M model was used to determine the relationship between cumulative evapotranspiration and cumulative precipitation between two adjacent irrigations. Using the meteorological data measured from 2009 to 2018, the model was applied to optimize the irrigation timing, from which we compared the yield-increasing benefits obtained from the K-M method, the dynamic irrigation water limit method, and the empirical irrigation method. 【Result】 The correlation coefficient between the cumulative evapotranspiration and the cumulative effective precipitation under different irrigation amount was greater than 0.92. With the increase in irrigation amount, the parameter M in the K-M method, which characterizes the irrigation amount, increased. 【Conclusion】 Evaluation of the three methods for determining the optimal irrigation timing based on yield, benefit and water use efficiency showed that, compared with the empirical irrigation method, the K-M method was the best, followed by the dynamic irrigation water limit method.

Abstract

In recent years, carbon-ceramic matrix composite materials have become a hot topic due to their high temperature resistance, low density, good corrosion resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, and strong performance design. Biomorphic carbon-ceramic composites have been prepared by introducing the wood-derived pore structure into ceramic matrix.The pore structure, preparation process, properties and application prospects of biomorphic carbon-ceramic matrix composites were reviewed. The importance of designing the microstructure of materials was emphasized, and the key technology in the preparation process of carbon-ceramic matrix composites-infiltration technology were specified, including: chemical vapor infiltration, melt infiltration, sol-gel infiltration, slurry infiltration, polymer precursor infiltration, and molten salt infiltration. The solutions to the existing problems of each technology were proposed. Composite strength and fracture strength of biomass carbon-ceramic matrix composites were reviewed. Suggestions for future research directions on the performance were put forward. It was pointed out that the mechanical properties of materials should be tested under high temperature, strong acid and strong alkali, and alternating cold and heat environments. The potential applications of biomorphic carbon-ceramic matrix composites were discussed in three aspects, including aero-engine blades, automobile exhaust gas purifiers, and catalyst carriers. Existing challenges and practical limitations such as complex molding, strong mechanical properties and thermal stability were outlined. Finally, the improvement of the preparation process and the study of mechanical properties of biomorphic carbon-ceramic matrix composites were prospected, which provides theoretical basis and guidance for the development and application of biomorphic carbon-ceramic matrix composites.
