We investigate the violation of the Leggett-Garg inequalities for a harmonic oscillator in various quantum states. We focus on the two-time quasi-probability distribution function with a dichotomic variable constructed with the position operator of a harmonic oscillator. First, we developed a new formula to compute the two-time quasi-probability distribution function, whose validity is demonstrated in comparison with the formula developed in the recent paper by Mawby and Halliwell[Phys.Rev.A, 107 032216 (2023)]. Second, we demonstrated the variety of the violation of the two-time Leggett-Garg inequalities assuming various quantum states of a harmonic oscillator including the squeezed coherent state and the thermal squeezed coherent state. Third, we demonstrated that a certain type of extension of the dichotomic variable and the corresponding projection operator can boost violation of the Leggett-Garg inequalities for the ground state and the squeezed state. Quantum resource theories (QRTs) provide a unified framework to analyze quantum properties as resources for achieving advantages in quantum information processing. The generalized robustness and the weight of resource have been gaining increasing attention as useful resource quantifiers. However, the existing analyses of these measures were restricted to the cases where convexity of the set of free states is assumed, and physically motivated resources do not necessarily satisfy this restriction. In this paper, we give characterizations of robustness- and weight-based measures in general QRTs without convexity restriction through two different yet related approaches. On the one hand, we characterize the generalized robustness and the weight of resource by introducing a nonlinear witness. We show a general construction of new witness observables that detect the resourcefulness of a given state from multiple copies of the state and, using these witnesses, we provide operational interpretations of the above resource measures even without any convexity assumption. On the other hand, we find that the generalized robustness and the weight of resource can also be interpreted as the worst-case maximum advantage in variants of channel-discrimination and channel-exclusion tasks, respectively, where the set of free states consists of several convex subsets corresponding to multiple restrictions. We further extend these results to QRTs for quantum channels and quantum instruments. These characterizations show that every quantum resource exhibits an advantage for the corresponding tasks, even in general QRTs without convexity assumption. Identifying what quantum-mechanical properties are useful to untap a superior performance in quantum technologies is a pivotal question. Quantum resource theories provide a unified framework to analyze and understand such properties, as successfully demonstrated for entanglement and coherence. While these are examples of convex resources, for which quantum advantages can always be identified, many physical resources are described by a nonconvex set of free states and their interpretation has so far remained elusive. Here we address the fundamental question of the usefulness of quantum resources without convexity assumption, by providing two operational interpretations of the generalized robustness measure in general resource theories. First, we characterize the generalized robustness in terms of a nonlinear resource witness and reveal that any state is more advantageous than a free one in some multicopy channel discrimination task. Next, we consider a scenario where a theory is characterized by multiple constraints and show that the generalized robustness coincides with the worst-case advantage in a single-copy channel discrimination setting. Based on these characterizations, we conclude that every quantum resource state shows a qualitative and quantitative advantage in discrimination problems in a general resource theory even without any specification on the structure of the free states., Comment: 7 pages. In this paper, we propose a solution that won the 10th prize in the KDD Cup 2023 Challenge Task 2 (Next Product Recommendation for Underrepresented Languages/Locales). Our approach involves two steps: (i) Identify candidate item sets based on co-visitation, and (ii) Re-ranking the items using LightGBM with locale-independent features, including session-based features and product similarity. The experiment demonstrated that the locale-independent model performed consistently well across different test locales, and performed even better when incorporating data from other locales into the training.

We present the detection of a secondary outflow associated with a Class I source, Ser-emb 15, in the Serpens Molecular Cloud. We reveal two pairs of molecular outflows consisting of three lobes, namely primary and secondary outflows, using ALMA 12CO and SiO line observations at a resolution of 318 au. The secondary outflow is elongated approximately perpendicular to the axis of the primary outflow in the plane of the sky. We also identify two compact structures, Sources A and B, within an extended structure associated with Ser-emb 15 in the 1.3 mm continuum emission at a resolution of 40 au. The projected sizes of Sources A and B are 137 au and 60 au, respectively. Assuming a dust temperature of 20 K, we estimate the dust mass to be 0.0024 Msun for Source A and 0.00033 Msun for Source B. C18O line data imply the existence of rotational motion around the extended structure, however, cannot resolve rotational motion in Source A and/or B, due to insufficient angular and frequency resolutions. Therefore, we cannot conclude whether Ser-emb 15 is a single or binary system. Thus, either Source A or B could drive the secondary outflow. We discuss two scenarios to explain the driving mechanism of the primary and secondary outflows: the Ser-emb 15 system is (1) a binary system composed of Source A and B or (2) a single star system composed of only Source A. In either case, the system could be a suitable target for investigating the disk and/or binary formation processes in complicated environments. Recently, a new population of circular radio ($\sim$GHz) objects have been discovered at high Galactic latitudes, called the Odd Radio Circles (ORCs). A fraction of the ORCs encircles massive galaxies in the sky with stellar mass $\sim 10^{11}\, M_\odot$ situated at $z=0.2$-$0.6$, suggesting a possible physical connection. In this work, we explore the possibility that these radio circles originate from the accretion shocks/virial shocks around massive ($\gtrsim10^{13}\, M_\odot$) dark matter halo at $z\sim0.5$. We found that the radio flux density of the emitting shell is marginally consistent with the ORCs. We also find that pure advection of electrons from the shock results in a radio-emitting shell that is considerably narrower than the observed one due to strong inverse-Compton cooling of electrons. Instead, we show that the diffusion of cosmic-ray (CR) electrons plays a significant role in increasing the width of the shell. We infer a diffusion coefficient, $D_{\rm cr} \sim 10^{30}\ {\rm cm^2\,s^{-1}}$, consistent with the values expected for low-density circumgalactic medium (CGM). If ORCs indeed trace virial shocks, then our derived CR diffusion coefficient represents one of the few estimations available for the low-density CGM. Finally, we show that the apparent discrepancy between ORC and halo number density can be mitigated by considering an incomplete halo virialization and the limited radiation efficiency of shocks. This study, therefore, opens up new avenues to probe such shocks and non-thermal particle acceleration within them. Observations of the hot X-ray emitting interstellar medium in the Milky Way are important for studying the stellar feedback and understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies. We present measurements of the soft X-ray background emission for 130 Suzaku observations at $75^\circ15^\circ$. With the standard soft X-ray background model consisting of the local hot bubble and the Milky Way halo, residual structures remain at 0.7--1 keV in the spectra of some regions. Adding a collisional-ionization-equilibrium component with a temperature of $\sim$0.8 keV, much higher than the virial temperature of the Milky Way, significantly reduces the derived C-statistic for 56 out of 130 observations. The emission measure of the 0.8 keV component varies by more than an order of magnitude: Assuming the solar abundance, the median value is 3$\times 10^{-4}~ \rm{cm^{-6} pc}$ and the 16th-84th percentile range is (1--8)$\times 10^{-4}~ \rm{cm^{-6} pc}$. Regions toward the Orion-Eridanus Superbubble, a large cavity extending from the Ori OB1 association, have the highest emission measures of the 0.8 keV component. While the scatter is large, the emission measures tend to be higher toward the lower Galactic latitude. We discuss possible biases caused by the solar wind charge exchange, stars, and background groups. We give a complete answer to the rationality problem (up to stable $k$-equivalence) for norm one tori $T=R^{(1)}_{K/k}(\mathbb{G}_m)$ of $K/k$ whose Galois closures $L/k$ are $A_5\simeq {\rm PSL}_2(\mathbb{F}_4)$ and ${\rm PSL}_2(\mathbb{F}_8)$ extensions. In particular, we prove that $T$ is stably $k$-rational for $G={\rm Gal}(L/k)\simeq {\rm PSL}_2(\mathbb{F}_{8})$, $H={\rm Gal}(L/K)\simeq (C_2)^3$ and $H\simeq (C_2)^3\rtimes C_7$ where $C_n$ is the cyclic group of order $n$. Based on the result, we conjecture that $T$ is stably $k$-rational for $G\simeq {\rm PSL}_2(\mathbb{F}_{2^d})$, $H\simeq (C_2)^d$ and $H\simeq (C_2)^d\rtimes C_{2^d-1}$. Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are classified into repeaters and non-repeaters, with only a few percent of the observed FRB population from the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) confirmed as repeaters. However, this figure represents only a lower limit due to the observational biases, and the true fraction of repeaters remains unknown. Correcting for these biases uncovers a notable decline in apparently non-repeating FRB detection rate as the CHIME operational time increases. This finding suggests that a significant portion of apparently non-repeating FRBs could in fact exhibit repetition when observed over more extended periods. A simple population model infers that the true repeater fraction likely exceeds 50% with 99% confidence, a figure substantially larger than the observed face value, even consistent with 100%. This greater prevalence of repeaters had previously gone unnoticed due to their very low repetition rates ($\sim$10$^{-3.5}$ hr$^{-1}$ on average). Hence, theoretical FRB models must incorporate these low-rate repeaters. Online Continual Learning (OCL) addresses the problem of training neural networks on a continuous data stream where multiple classification tasks emerge in sequence. In contrast to offline Continual Learning, data can be seen only once in OCL, which is a very severe constraint. In this context, replay-based strategies have achieved impressive results and most state-of-the-art approaches heavily depend on them. While Knowledge Distillation (KD) has been extensively used in offline Continual Learning, it remains under-exploited in OCL, despite its high potential. In this paper, we analyze the challenges in applying KD to OCL and give empirical justifications. We introduce a direct yet effective methodology for applying Momentum Knowledge Distillation (MKD) to many flagship OCL methods and demonstrate its capabilities to enhance existing approaches. In addition to improving existing state-of-the-art accuracy by more than $10\%$ points on ImageNet100, we shed light on MKD internal mechanics and impacts during training in OCL. Deep neural networks have shown remarkable performance when trained on independent and identically distributed data from a fixed set of classes. However, in real-world scenarios, it can be desirable to train models on a continuous stream of data where multiple classification tasks are presented sequentially. This scenario, known as Continual Learning (CL) poses challenges to standard learning algorithms which struggle to maintain knowledge of old tasks while learning new ones. This stability-plasticity dilemma remains central to CL and multiple metrics have been proposed to adequately measure stability and plasticity separately. However, none considers the increasing difficulty of the classification task, which inherently results in performance loss for any model. In that sense, we analyze some limitations of current metrics and identify the presence of setup-induced forgetting. Therefore, we propose new metrics that account for the task's increasing difficulty. Through experiments on benchmark datasets, we demonstrate that our proposed metrics can provide new insights into the stability-plasticity trade-off achieved by models in the continual learning environment., Comment: 6 pages, presented at MIRU 2023

We have developed a Thomson scattering measurement system for the cascade arc discharge device designed for the plasma window (PW) application study. The PW is one of the plasma application techniques that sustain the steep pressure gradient between high pressure (10-100 kPa) and a vacuum environment due to the thermal energy of the plasma. Since the plasma thermal energy is the essential parameter for the pressure separation capability of PW, we installed the Thomson scattering measurement system to observe the electron density and temperature within the anode and cathode of the PW for the detailed analysis of the pressure separation capability. The frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser (532 nm, 200 mJ, 8 ns) was employed for the probe laser. The scattered light was fed to the triple grating spectrometer. The notch filter between the first and second grating eliminated the stray light, realizing a sufficiently high signal-to-noise ratio. The Thomson scattering measurement system successfully obtained the electron density and temperature of the cascade arc plasma at 20 mm downstream from the tip of the cathode. The installed system successfully obtained the Thomson scattering spectrum and showed that the electron density increased from $2\times10^{19} {\rm m}^{-3}$ to $7\times10^{19} {\rm m}^{-3}$ with the discharge power, while the electron temperature was almost constant at about 2 eV. We construct a protocol for extracting distributed one-qubit quantum information encoded in a stabilizer code of multiple qubits, only by single-qubit local operations and classical communication (LOCC) without global operations or entanglement resources. This protocol achieves efficient extraction within a polynomial time in terms of the number of physical qubits. We apply this protocol to a setting of quantum information splitting where a subset of spatially separated parties cooperate by classical communication to extract quantum information shared among all the parties. For this task, our LOCC extraction protocol allows designing hierarchical information access structures among the parties, where the minimum number of parties required to cooperate depends on the location of extracting the shared quantum information. These results provide a fundamental building block of distributed quantum information processing that requires access to distributed quantum information encoded in the stabilizer codes., Comment: 16 pages, 15 figures

Building defect prediction models based on online learning can enhance prediction accuracy. It continuously rebuilds a new prediction model when adding a new data point. However, predicting a module as "non-defective" (i.e., negative prediction) can result in fewer test cases for such modules. Therefore, defects can be overlooked during testing, even when the module is defective. The erroneous test results are used as learning data by online learning, which could negatively affect prediction accuracy.
