The objective of the study is to examine the correlation between the national income and wages in Turkey economy within the sampling period of 2002Q1-2015Q4. Toward this objective, the correlation between time series of 56 observation were analysed using Engle-Granger and Johansen cointegration testing in the long term and Error Correction Model in the short term. Findings obtained through cointegration testing for the correlation reflecting long term between the national income and the wages; allow creating a single cointegrated equation among variables. The finding of long term correlation has allowed us to conclude that there was a trend of variables parallel variation. Error Correction Model has been established to determine the degree of consequent cointegration and its speed of occurrence. The obtained -0.391 error term coefficient indicate that approximate %4 of 1 unit deviation on the short term disparity get better in the following period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the hemostatic function by thromboelastography (TEG) and determine if there was an association between the changes in hemostatic parameters and serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM was diagnosed by echocardiography in 19 dogs. Ten healthy dogs were selected as controls. Myocardial injury was confirmed by increased serum cTnI levels. Coagulation was assessed by TEG evaluating clot kinetics (reaction time [R] and kinetic time [K]), clot strengthening (alpha [a] angle and G value), platelet function (maximum amplitude [MA] and coagulation-index [CI]), clot stability (LY30, the percentage of lysis 30 min after MA), and global clotting times (activated partial thromboplastin time [aPTT] and prothrombin time [PT]). Dogs with DCM had higher R and K times but lower MA, a-angle, G, and CI compared to controls (P < 0.05). LY30 and PT did not statistically differ between groups, but the aPTT in dogs with DCM was higher than that of the controls. Serum cTnI (median [range], ng/mL) was higher in dogs with DCM (0.25 [0.13-3.1]) than in healthy dogs (0.03 [0.01-0.06]). There was no statistical relation between cTnI and coagulation parameters. This study showed that alterations of the coagulation status in dogs with DCM could develop independently of serum cTnI elevations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to investigate serum leptin and ghrelin levels and their relations with circulating cortisol, thyroid hormones, lipids, homocysteine (Hcy) and folic acid in dogs with compulsive tail chasing (CTC). The material of this study consists of fifteen dogs with CTC and 15 healthy controls of various weights, breeds, ages of both sexes were enrolled in the study. CTC was diagnosed on the basis of the dog’s behavioral history, clinical signs, and results of other medical assessments. None of the dogs were considered to have concurrent medical disease that would account for CTC. Dogs with CTC had a higher leptin (8.3±0.9 ng/mL vs 1.7±0.2 ng/mL, P<0.001) and lower ghrelin levels (74±7 pg/mL vs 144±41 pg/mL, P<0.05) than those of healthy controls. Serum cortisol, lipids (cholesterol, phospholipids and NEFA) and Hcy levels increased (P<0.05), whereas serum folic acid decreased (P<0.001) in dogs with CTC as compared with controls. Serum ghrelin correlated negatively with cholesterol (P<0.05), but serum leptin correlated positively with cholesterol, fT4, and phospholipids (P<0.05). These results suggest that serum leptin and ghrelin levels may bring up a new perspective on our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms associated with CTC. Turkey's banking sector is trying to create a competitive structure along with trends in the world of globalization. Especially since the financial crisis in 2001, The banking sector in Turkey has developed rapidly and ensure basic banking activities are spread across the country. In this process, the activities of banks, market growth potential and improve competition in the sector, taking into account factors that are seen. The basic functions of banking activities are known to be accepting deposits and lending. In this study, the data taken into consideration for determining this function and provinces with similar characteristics have been determined with banking activities. For this purpose, the cluster analysis of multivariate statistical techniques were used. As a result of the analyzes conducted according to the classification, when Turkey's 81 provinces grouped in terms of basic banking activities to occur six groups, within these groups in the first group of Istanbul and the fourth group of Ankara alone they are located is determined. Accordingly, these two provinces in terms of core banking provinces have different features from other all provinces and from each other. The reason for this difference; A commercial center of Istanbul, Ankara's public institutions are concentrated mostly as a center in the form of fore evaluated. Considering other groups; in the second group (Balıkesir, Eskişehir, Kayseri, etc..) 21 provinces, In the third group (Manisa, Gaziantep, Samsun, etc..) 15 provinces, In the fifth group (Canakkale, Istanbul, Konya, etc..) 28 provinces and ın the sixth group (Pain, Van, Diyarbakir, etc..) observed that there are 15 provinces. In this experimental sciatic nerve crush injury model study, early and late neuroprotective efficacy of mannitol and vitamin C. In this study 60 male rats were used. The subjects were divided into 6 groups as Sham group (Group 1), Control group (Group 2), 1. hour mannitol group (Group 3), 1. hour vitamin C group (Group 4), 24. hour mannitol group (Group 5) and 24. hour vitamin C group (Group 6).At the end of the experimental period, tissue samples were taken for histopathological and biochemical studies. Lipid peroxide product malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities were measured. After mannitol treatment tissue SOD and CAT activities increased and MDA level decreased significantly, at the early period (group III, p < 0.05) and on the late period (group IV, p < 0.05) than control (group 2) group. And after mannitol treatment tissue CAT activities increased and MDA level decreased significantly, at the early period (group IV, p < 0.05) and on the late period (Group VI, p < 0.05) than control (group 2) group. However, SOD activities increased in early period (group IV, p < 0.05). As a result, it was found that application of vitamin c and mannitol intraperitoneally, may be useful on preventing oxidative stress and also mannitol has more neuroprotective efficacy at late period than early period. In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence of heart diseases in dogs admitted to Small Animal Clinic (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Uludag University-Bursa), between 2005 and 2007 years. For this purpose, totally 200 dogs, of different breed, age and both gender, with heart disease were used. Heart diseases were diagnosed by electrocardiographic and echocardiographic examinations. Most commonly affected breed was Terrier (47%), mix-breed (14%), Pointer (7%), and Rottweiler (6%). Common findings at the time of the initial physical examination were exercise intolerance (32%), coughing (29%), ascites (13%), and lethargy (12%). Supraventricular tachycardia (40%), low voltage QRS (10%), p-mitrale (7%) and p-pulmonale (6%) were observed electrocardiographically. Echocardiography showed valvular diseases, predominantly mitral regurgitation (67%) and mitral valve prolepses (18%), left-sided heart failure (30%), and pericardial effusion (6%). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was diagnosed rarely (2%). This was the first study reporting the prevalence of heart diseases in dogs in Bursa. Practitioner should be kept in mind that cardiologic examinations should be performed during diagnostic work-up in dogs with exercise intolerance and/or coughing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The clinical and haematological findings in dairy cattle with naturally infected bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV) infection were evaluated. Thirty-seven (12.3%) out of 300 cattle that had previously been found positive for BIV infection were monitored. Thirty-seven BIV-free cattle selected from BIV-positive herds were used as a control group. Routine clinical and haematological parameters were recorded 6 times, at 1-month intervals. Mastitis (n = 18), metritis (n = 9), respiratory system diseases (n = 8), retained placenta (n = 7), and regional lymphadenopathy (n = 7) were predominantly diagnosed during the monitoring period in BIV-infected cattle, and mastitis (n = 1) and metabolic disturbance (n = 1) in the control animals. Heart and respiratory rates were significantly higher (P < 0.01) in BIV-infected cattle than in the control group. White blood cell (WBC) count and lymphocyte rate were lower (P < 0.01) in BIV-infected cattle, but the neutrophil rate was higher (P < 0.05) than those of the control group. There were no significant differences in erythrocyte or platelet indices within or between the groups during the study. These findings suggest that the presence of BIV infection should be considered a health risk to cattle populations, and may have a role in changing WBC and differential cell counts in the host. The aim of the study was to determine the seroprevalence of anti-Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies in a population of Turkish dogs and horses, as well as to com- pare the sensitivity of novel flow-cytometry-based borreliacidal antibody test (BAT) with ELISA assay. Serum samples collected from 400 dogs and 300 horses were tested with enzyme-linked protein A/G assay (ELPAGA), using Borrelia whole cell antigens. ELPAGA test showed 93 dogs (23.2%) and 18 horses (6%) serologically positive for anti- Borrelia antibodies. In parallel testing of sera with BAT, we found 27.75% positive dogs and 6.33% positive horses. When the results of these serological testes were compared with the health status of the animals, the most common clinical signs noticed in dogs were skin manifestations, urinary tract disorder and anemia; however, no clinical symptoms were observed in horses positive for the anti-Borrelia antibodies. This is a first time that seroprevalence of Lyme disease in dogs and horses has been reported from Turkey, as well as the use of novel BAT in animals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The results of antigenic characterization of canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV2) isolated from the feces of 60 dogs with hemorrhagic enteritis are reported. Antigenic characterization was carried out by comparing the reactivity pattern of 4 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to CPV2 in the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test. CPV2 was detected in 21 out of 60 dogs (35%) and antigenic typing was able to be performed for only 16 dogs with {beta}=1:8 titers. Nine samples were characterized as CPV2a and 7 as CPV2b, indicating that the CPV2a variant was more common than CPV2b in dog populations in Bursa province in Turkey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography represents an advanced imaging technique that allows the analysis of global and regional myocardial function, cardiac rotation and synchronicity using deformation imaging. It has gained growing importance over the last decade, especially in human medicine as a method of evaluating myocardial function. This review aims to give an overview of the current understanding of this technique and its clinical applicability in the field of veterinary medicine with a focus on early detection of left ventricular dysfunction in dogs. Two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D–STE) is an advanced echocardiographic technique based on deformation imaging that allows comprehensive evaluation of the myocardial function. Clinical application of 2D–STE holds great potential for its ability to provide valuable information on both global and regional myocardial function and to quantify cardiac rotation and synchronicity, which are not readily possible with the conventional echocardiography. It has gained growing importance over the past decade, especially in human medicine, and its application includes assessment of myocardial function, detection of subclinical myocardial dysfunction and serving as a prognostic indicator. This review illustrates the fundamental concepts of deformation analysis and gives an overview of the current understanding and its clinical application of this technique in veterinary medicine, with a focus on early detection of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in dogs. Simple Summary: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) remains a fatal disease, despite the advances in disease-specific therapies. This may be because the assessment of pulmonary hemodynamics in PH has not been established. Recently, several studies have reported that the pulmonary arterial wave reflection (PAWR) might influence the right ventricular afterload and could provide additional information regarding the severity and progression of PH. However, the pathophysiology of PAWR has some unclear points particularly in the case of acute pulmonary embolism (APE). The objective of this study was to investigate, for the first time, the characteristics of PAWR in a dog model of APE using dual-tipped sensor wire. From the result of the present study, after dogs developed PH by injections of dextran microsphere, PAWR was increased significantly along with the pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and reduced after vasodilator administration. In addition, PAWR was significantly correlated with PVR and right ventricular fractional area of change (FAC). These results indicating that PAWR may be useful as a new evaluation method in PH and may detect changes related to right ventricular afterload earlier than pulmonary artery pressure (PAP). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a complex syndrome that has been frequently diagnosed in dogs and humans and can be detected by Doppler echocardiography and invasive catheterization. Recently, PAWR attracts much attention as a noninvasive approach for the early detection of PH. The present study aims to investigate the PAWR changes in acute pulmonary embolism (APE) and highlight the response of PAWR variables to vasodilator therapy in dogs. For this purpose, anesthesia and catheterization were performed in 6 Beagle dogs. After that, APE was experimentally conducted by Dextran microsphere administration, followed by vasodilator (Nitroprusside; 1μg/kg/min/IV) administration. The hemodynamics, echocardiography, PVR and PAWR variables were evaluated at the baseline, after APE and after administration of nitroprusside. The result showed a significant increase in PVR, PAP, tricuspid regurgitation (TR) as well as PAWR variables following APE induction compared with the baseline (p < 0.05). Vasodilation caused by administration of nitroprusside reduced the mean atrial pressure, PVR and PAWR parameters. There were a significant correlation and linear regression between PAWR indices and PVR as well as right ventricular function parameters. In conclusion, PAWR is not only correlated with PVR but also the right ventricular function parameter, which indicates that PAWR may be useful as a new evaluation method in PH, considering that PAWR can assess both right ventricular afterload and right ventricular function. Background: Platelets play a central role in the development of cardiovascular diseases and changes in their proteins are involved in the pathophysiology of heart diseases in humans. There is lack of knowledge about the possible role of platelets in congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the changes in global platelet proteomes in dogs with CHF, to clarify the possible role of platelets in the physiopathology of this disease. Healthy-dogs (n = 10) and dogs with acute CHF due to myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD, n = 10) were used. Acute CHF was defined based on the clinical (increased respiratory rate or difficulty breathing) and radiographic findings of pulmonary edema. Dogs Blood samples were collected into tubes with acid-citrate-dextrose, and platelet-pellets were obtained by centrifuge and washing steps. Platelet-proteomes were identified using LC-MS based label-free differential proteome expression analysis method and matched according to protein database for Canis lupus familiaris. Results: Totally 104 different proteins were identified in the platelets of the dogs being 4 out of them were significantly up-regulated and 6 down-regulated in acute CHF dogs. Guanine-nucleotide-binding protein, apolipoproteins (A-II and C-III) and clusterin levels increased, but CXC-motif-chemokine-10, cytochrome-C-oxidase-subunit-2, cathepsin-D, serine/threonine-protein-phosphatase-PP1-gamma-catalytic-subunit, creatine-kinase-B-type and myotrophin levels decreased in acute CHF dogs. These proteins are associated with several molecular functions, biological processes, signaling systems and immune-inflammatory responses. Conclusion: This study describes by first time the changes in the protein composition in platelets of dogs with acute CHF due to MMVD. Our findings provide a resource for increase the knowledge about the proteome of canine platelets and their roles in CHF caused by MMVD and could be a tool for further investigations about the prevention and treatment of this disease. Background: Heart failure (HF) is associated with changes in inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers. This study aimed to evaluate the changes of a panel of inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers in dogs with different stages of HF and its relation with the severity of the disease and echocardiographic changes. A total of 29 dogs with HF as a result of myxomatous mitral valve degeneration or dilated cardiomyopathy were included and classified as stage-A (healthy), B (asymptomatic dogs), C (symptomatic dogs) and D (dogs with end-stage HF) according to the ACVIM staging system. In these dogs an ecnhocardiographic examination was performed and cytokines, and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers were evaluated in serum. Results: KC-like was significantly increased in dogs of stage-C (P < 0.01) and -D (P < 0.05) compared with stage-A and -B. Stage-D dogs showed significantly higher serum CRP and Hp (P < 0.05) but lower serum antioxidant capacity (PON1, TEAC, CUPRAC, and thiol) compared to stage-A and -B (P < 0.05). After the treatment, serum levels of CRP, Hp and KC-like decreased and serum antioxidant levels increased compared to their pre-treatment values. Left ventricular dimension and LA/Ao ratio correlated positively with CRP, MCP-1, and KC-like but negatively with PON1, GM-CSF, IL-7 and antioxidant biomarkers (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Our results showed that dogs with advanced HF show increases in positive acute-phase proteins and selected inflammatory cytokines such as KC-like, and decreases in antioxidant biomarkers, indicating that inflammation and oxidative stress act as collaborative partners in the pathogenesis of HF. Some of these biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress could have the potential to be biomarkers to monitor the severity of the disease and the effect of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Serological evidence of minute virus of canines (MVC; canine parvovirus type-1) was investigated for the first time in dogs in Turkey. Dogs with various clinical symptoms including primarily gastrointestinal and respiratory system disorders were used. Immunofluorescence (IF) test was performed to determine whether anti-MVC antibodies were present in the serum samples. MVC antibodies were found in 18 out of 100 dogs (18.0%) tested, indicating that MVC is present in dogs in Turkey. The present result is additional evidence for the worldwide distribution of MVC.
