Abstract The hydrological regime is considered to be the major factor that affects the distribution of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi in wetlands. We aimed to investigate the responses of AM fungal community to different hydrological gradients. Illumina Miseq sequencing technology was used to study the AM fungal community structure in roots and rhizosphere soils of Phragmites australis in different moisture areas (dry area, alternating wet and dry area, and flooded area) in Mengjin Yellow River wetland. The rhizosphere soils and roots hosted different AM fungal communities. In roots, the AM fungal colonization and Chao1 richness in dry area were significantly higher than that in alternating wet and dry area and flooded area, but the community composition did not vary clearly under different water conditions. In rhizosphere soils, the Chao1 richness of AM fungi in flooded area was significantly higher than that in alternating wet and dry area and dry area, and the AM fungal community structure obviously differed across different areas. The redundancy analyses indicated that changes in the AM fungal community in soils were associated with altered soil properties, and the abundance of the dominant genus Glomus was mostly positively correlated with alkali‐hydrolyzable nitrogen in soils. This study helps us to understand the responses of AM fungal community to hydrological gradients in wetlands.

BackgroundFor cesarean delivery (CD), the 90% effective dosage (ED90) of oxytocin for a first bolus has been established. It is not yet known how much oxytocin to inject into obese women undergoing elective discectomy to keep their uterine tone (UT) appropriate. We hypothesized that patients who are overweight need a greater dose of oxytocin infusion; thus, we aimed to determine how the dose-response curve for oxytocin infusion changes following an initial 1 international unit (IU) bolus in obese women undergoing elective CD.MethodsOne hundred parturients with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m2 were randomly assigned to receive an infusion rate of 14, 18, 22, or 26 IU/h of oxytocin. When the uterine palpation is as hard as touching the forehead or tip of the nose, it is considered sufficient UT according to the criteria used by obstetricians. The median effective dose (ED50) and ED90 values were determined using probit analysis.ResultsWe found the ED50 and ED90 values for the infusion dose of oxytocin were around 11.0 IU/h and 19.1 IU/h, respectively. Each group had a different number of parturients who needed rescued oxytocin: 14 IU/h for six, 18 IU/h for three, one for 22 IU/h, and none for 26 IU/h. The correlation between the frequency of rescued oxytocin administration and the amount of oxytocin infusion needed to avoid uterine atony was statistically significant (p = 0.02).ConclusionThe present research showed that the most effective dosage of oxytocin infusion for obese parturients undergoing elective CD is 19.1 IU/h, following an initial loading dose of 1 IU. ABSTRACTAlthough vaginitis is closely related to vaginal microecology in females, the precise composition and functional potential of different types of vaginitis remain unclear. Here, metagenomic sequencing was applied to analyze the vaginal flora in patients with various forms of vaginitis, including cases with a clue cell proportion ranging from 1% to 20% (Clue1_20), bacterial vaginitis (BV), vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), and BV combined with VVC (VVC_BV). Our results identified Prevotella as an important biomarker between BV and Clue1_20. Moreover, a gradual decrease was observed in the relative abundance of shikimic acid metabolism associated with bacteria producing indole as well as a decline in the abundance of Gardnerella vaginalis in patients with BV, Clue1_20, and healthy women. Interestingly, the vaginal flora of patients in the VVC_BV group exhibited structural similarities to that of the VVC group, and its potentially functional characteristics resembled those of the BV and VVC groups. Finally, Lactobacillus crispatus was found in high abundance in healthy samples, greatly contributing to the stability of the vaginal environment. For the further study of L. crispatus, we isolated five strains of L. crispatus from healthy samples and evaluated their capacity to inhibit G. vaginalis biofilms and produce lactic acid in vitro to select the potential probiotic candidate for improving vaginitis in future clinical studies. Overall, we successfully identified bacterial biomarkers of different vaginitis and characterized the dynamic shifts in vaginal flora between patients with BV and healthy females. This research advances our understanding and holds great promise in enhancing clinical approaches for the treatment of vaginitis.IMPORTANCEVaginitis is one of the most common gynecological diseases, mostly caused by infections of pathogens such as Candida albicans and Gardnerella vaginalis. In recent years, it has been found that the stability of the vaginal flora plays an important role in vaginitis. Furthermore, the abundant Lactobacillus-producing rich lactic acid in the vagina provides a healthy acidic environment such as Lactobacillus crispatus. The metabolites of Lactobacillus can inhibit the colonization of pathogens. Here, we collected the vaginal samples of patients with bacterial vaginitis (BV), vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), and BV combined with VVC to discover the differences and relationships among the different kinds of vaginitis by metagenomic sequencing. Furthermore, because of the importance of L. crispatus in promoting vaginal health, we isolated multiple strains from vaginal samples of healthy females and chose the most promising strain with potential probiotic benefits to provide clinical implications for treatment strategies.

Previous research has found that prolonged eye-based attention can bias ocular dominance. If one eye long-termly views a regular movie meanwhile the opposite eye views a backward movie of the same episode, perceptual ocular dominance will shift towards the eye previously viewing the backward movie. Yet it remains unclear whether the role of eye-based attention in this phenomenon is causal or not. To address this issue, the present study relied on both the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) techniques. We found robust activation of the frontal eye field (FEF) and intraparietal sulcus (IPS) when participants were watching the dichoptic movie while focusing their attention on the regular movie. Interestingly, we found a robust effect of attention-induced ocular dominance shift when the cortical function of vertex or IPS was transiently inhibited by continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS), yet the effect was significantly attenuated to a negligible extent when cTBS was delivered to FEF. A control experiment verified that the attenuation of ocular dominance shift after inhibitory stimulation of FEF was not due to any impact of the cTBS on the binocular rivalry measurement of ocular dominance. These findings suggest that the fronto-parietal attentional network is involved in controlling eye-based attention in the ‘dichoptic-backward-movie’ adaptation paradigm, and in this network, FEF plays a crucial causal role in generating the attention-induced ocular dominance shift.

IntroductionStaphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a prominent pathogen responsible for both hospital-acquired and community-acquired infections. Among its arsenal of virulence factors, Panton-Valentine Leucocidin (PVL) is closely associated with severe diseases such as profound skin infections and necrotizing pneumonia. Patients infected with pvl-positive S. aureus often exhibit more severe symptoms and carry a substantially higher mortality risk. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly and accurately detect pvl-positive S. aureus before initiating protective measures and providing effective antibacterial treatment.MethodsIn this study, we propose a precise identification and highly sensitive detection method for pvl-positive S. aureus based on recombinase-assisted amplification and the CRISPR-ERASE strip which we previously developed.ResultsThe results revealed that this method achieved a detection limit of 1 copy/μL for pvl-positive plasmids within 1 hour. The method successfully identified all 25 pvl-positive and 51 pvl-negative strains among the tested 76 isolated S. aureus samples, demonstrating its concordance with qPCR.DiscussionThese results show that the CRISPR-ERASE detection method for pvl-positive S. aureus has the advantages of high sensitivity and specificity, this method combines the characteristics of recombinase-assisted amplification at room temperature and the advantages of ERASE test strip visualization, which can greatly reduce the dependence on professional laboratories. It is more suitable for on-site detection than PCR and qPCR, thereby providing important value for rapid on-site detection of pvl.

To obtain healthy, low-sodium cured pork with good flavor, the processing optimization of the liquid smoke and baking was carried out through single factor experiment and orthogonal experiment in the present study. The effect of different amounts of smoking liquid, liquid smoking time, baking time and baking temperature on the yield, water activity, pH and color of low-sodium cured pork was investigated. Results showed that, the order affecting sensory quality of low-sodium cured pork was as follows: Baking temperature>baking time>smoking liquid amount>liquid smoking time. The optimized technological conditions of smoking and baking were as follows: The amount of smoking liquid was 4%, the time of liquid smoking was 150 min, the baking time was 28 h, the baking temperature was 50 ℃, and the sensory score of low-sodium cured pork under this processing technology was 37 points. The electronic tongue test was conducted to compare the taste of low-sodium cured pork with that of commercial cured pork. Results showed that the saltiness of low-sodium cured pork was significantly lower than that of commercial cured pork, and the bitterness and astringency were not significantly different from those of commercial cured pork.

Drylands are characterized by unique ecosystem types, sparse vegetation, fragile environments, and vital ecosystem services. The accurate mapping of dryland ecosystems is essential for their protection and restoration, but previous approaches primarily relied on modifying land use data derived from remote sensing, lacking the direct utilization of latest remote sensing technologies and methods to map ecosystems, especially failing to effectively identify key ecosystems with sparse vegetation. This study attempts to integrate Google Earth Engine (GEE), random forest (RF) algorithm, multi-source remote sensing data (spectral, radar, terrain, texture), feature optimization, and image segmentation to develop a fine-scale mapping method for an ecologically critical area in northern China. The results showed the following: (1) Incorporating multi-source remote sensing data significantly improved the overall classification accuracy of dryland ecosystems, with radar features contributing the most, followed by terrain and texture features. (2) Optimizing the features set can enhance the classification accuracy, with overall accuracy reaching 91.34% and kappa coefficient 0.90. (3) User’s accuracies exceeded 90% for forest, cropland, and water, and were slightly lower for steppe and shrub-steppe but were still above 85%, demonstrating the efficacy of the GEE and RF algorithm to map sparse vegetation and other dryland ecosystems. Accurate dryland ecosystems mapping requires accounting for regional heterogeneity and optimizing sample data and feature selection based on field surveys to precisely depict ecosystem patterns in complex regions. This study precisely mapped dryland ecosystems in a typical dryland region, and provides baseline data for ecological protection and restoration policies in this region, as well as a methodological reference for ecosystem mapping in similar regions.

Abstract During the past decade, cognitive neuroscience has been calling for population diversity to address the challenge of validity and generalizability, ushering in a new era of population neuroscience. The developing Chinese Color Nest Project (devCCNP, 2013–2022), the first ten-year stage of the lifespan CCNP (2013–2032), is a two-stages project focusing on brain-mind development. The project aims to create and share a large-scale, longitudinal and multimodal dataset of typically developing children and adolescents (ages 6.0–17.9 at enrolment) in the Chinese population. The devCCNP houses not only phenotypes measured by demographic, biophysical, psychological and behavioural, cognitive, affective, and ocular-tracking assessments but also neurotypes measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain morphometry, resting-state function, naturalistic viewing function and diffusion structure. This Data Descriptor introduces the first data release of devCCNP including a total of 864 visits from 479 participants. Herein, we provided details of the experimental design, sampling strategies, and technical validation of the devCCNP resource. We demonstrate and discuss the potential of a multicohort longitudinal design to depict normative brain growth curves from the perspective of developmental population neuroscience. The devCCNP resource is shared as part of the “Chinese Data-sharing Warehouse for In-vivo Imaging Brain” in the Chinese Color Nest Project (CCNP) – Lifespan Brain-Mind Development Data Community ( https://ccnp.scidb.cn ) at the Science Data Bank.

Abstract Background Folic acid (FA) supplementation is associated with a lower risk of the neural tube and heart defects and is recommended for women of childbearing age. Although there are detailed recommendations, differences in the initiation time and duration of FA supplementation remain poorly studied. Methods A multicentre prospective study of 17,713 women was conducted. The incidence of congenital malformations in women taking a recommended dosage (e.g. 0.4 or 0.8 mg/day) of FA was compared with that in women without supplementation. The predicted probability of malformations by the initiation time and duration of FA use was estimated to determine optimal options. Results Periconceptional FA supplementation was associated with a lower and insignificant risk of congenital malformations (1.59% vs. 2.37%; odds ratio [OR] 0.69; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.44–1.08), heart defects (3.8 vs. 8.0 per 1000 infants; OR, 0.47; 0.21–1.02), and neural tube defects (7.0 vs. 11.5 per 10,000 infants; OR, 0.64; 0.08–5.15). FA use after pregnancy provided greater protection against total malformations. Statistically significant associations were found in women who initiated FA supplementation in the first month of gestation (OR, 0.55; 95% CI: 0.33–0.91) and in those who supplemented for 1 to 2 months (OR, 0.59; 95% CI: 0.36–0.98). Similar results were found for heart defects. The optimal initiation time was 1.5 (optimal range: 1.1 to 1.9) months before pregnancy and a duration of 4.0 (3.7 to 4.4) months was reasonable to achieve the lowest risk of congenital malformations. Heart defect prevention required an earlier initiation (2.2 vs. 1.1 months before pregnancy) and a longer duration (4.7 vs. 3.7 months) than the prevention of other malformations. Conclusions The timely initiation of FA supplementation for gestation was associated with a decreased risk of congenital malformations, which was mainly attributed to its protection against heart defects. The initiation of FA supplementation 1.5 months before conception with a duration of 4 months is the preferred option for congenital malformation prevention. Organic lasers that emit light in the deep-red and near-infrared (NIR) region are of essential importance in laser communication, night vision, bioimaging, and information-secured displays but are still challenging because of the lack of proper gain materials. Herein, a new molecular design strategy that operates by merging two excited-state intramolecular proton transfer-active molecules into one excited-state double proton transfer (ESDPT)-active molecule was demonstrated. Based on this new strategy, three new materials were designed and synthesized with two groups of intramolecular resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds, in which the ESDPT process was proven to proceed smoothly based on theoretical calculations and experimental results of steady-state and transient spectra. Benefiting from the effective six-level system constructed by the ESDPT process, all newly designed materials showed low threshold laser emissions at approximately 720 nm when doped in PS microspheres, which in turn proved the existence of the second proton transfer process. More importantly, our well-developed NIR organic lasers showed high laser stability, which can maintain high laser intensity after 12000 pulse lasing, which is essential in practical applications. This work provides a simple and effective method for the development of NIR organic gain materials and demonstrates the ESDPT mechanism for NIR lasing.

Abstract Chemical depolymerization has been identified as a promising approach towards recycling of plastic waste. However, complete depolymerization may be energy intensive with complications in purification. In this work, we have demonstrated upcycling of mixed plastic waste comprising a mixture of polyester, polyamide, and polyurethane through a reprocessable vitrimer of the depolymerized oligomers. Using poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) as a model polymer, we first demonstrated partial controlled depolymerization, using glycerol as a cleaving agent, to obtain branched PET oligomers. Recovered PET (RPET) oligomer was then used as a feedstock to produce a crosslinked yet reprocessable vitrimer (vRPET) despite having a wide molecular weight distribution using a solventless melt processing approach. Crosslinking and dynamic interactions were observed through rheology and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Tensile mechanical studies showed no noticeable decrease in mechanical strength over multiple repeated melt processing cycles. Consequently, we have clearly demonstrated the applicability of the above method to upcycle mixed plastic wastes into vitrimers and reprocessable composites. This work also afforded insights into a potentially viable alternative route for utilization of depolymerized plastic/mixed plastic waste into crosslinked vitrimer resins manifesting excellent mechanical strength, while remaining reprocessable/ recyclable for cyclical lifetime use.

Abstract Background Voiding trials are used to identify women at risk for postoperative urinary retention while performing optimal voiding trial management with minimal burden to the patient and medical service team. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of postoperative void trials following urogynecologic surgery to investigate (1) the optimal postoperative void trial methodology and (2) the optimal criteria for assessing void trial. Method We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and relevant reference lists of eligible articles from inception to April 2022. We identified any randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in English that studied void trials in patients undergoing urogynecologic surgery. Study selection (title/abstract and full text), data extraction, and risk of bias assessment were conducted by two independent reviewers. Extracted study outcomes included the following: the correct passing rate, time to discharge, discharge rate without a catheter after the initial void trial, postoperative urinary tract infection, and patient satisfaction. Results Void trial methodology included backfill-assisted and autofill studies (2 RCTs, n = 95). Backfill assistance was more likely to be successful than autofill (RR 2.12, 95% CI 1.29, 3.47, P = 0.00); however, no significant difference was found in the time to discharge (WMDs = − 29.11 min, 95% CI − 57.45, 1.23, P = 0.06). The criteria for passing void trial included subjective assessment of the urinary force of stream and objective assessment of the standard voiding trial (3 RCTs, n = 377). No significant differences were found in the correct passing rate (RR 0.97, 95% CI 0.93, 1.01, P = 0.14) or void trial failure rate (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.52, 1.18, P = 0.24). Moreover, no significant differences were found in the complication rates or patient satisfaction between the two criteria. Conclusion Bladder backfilling was associated with a lower rate of catheter discharge after urogynecologic surgery. The subjective assessment of FOS is a reliable and safe method for assessing postoperative voiding because it is less invasive. Systematic review registration PROSPERO CRD42022313397

In order to investigate the effect of microalloying element composite adjustment on the corrosion resistance of Q345qE bridge steel, the influences of alloy element Cr, Ni, and Cu composite adjustment on the corrosion resistance of Q345qE bridge steel were studied by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), electrochemical workstation, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results showed that the compactness and protectiveness of the rust layer were improved after the composite adjustment of Cr, Ni and Cu microalloying elements. The Cr element in the rust layer on the Q345qE bridge steel surface could be enriched in the inner rust layer, which effectively blocked the penetration and transmission of corrosive ions such as Cl- and enhanced the protective ability of the rust layer on the substrate. After alloying element adjustment, the proportion of α-FeOOH that was more stable than γ-FeOOH in the rust layer of Q345qENH steel increased. Generally, Q345qE bridge steel with composite adjustment by microalloying elements possessed better corrosion resistance compared to ordinary Q345qE in 3.5% NaCl solution.

Abstract Background Patients are recommended not to drive for at least the first 24 h after endoscopy with propofol sedation. However, the evidence underlying these recommendations is scarce. We hypothesized that after endoscopic procedures performed under propofol sedation, the subject’s driving ability was restored in less than 24 h. Methods We prospectively enrolled thirty patients between 20 and 70 years possessing a legitimate driver’s license scheduled for endoscopy at our hospital. The sample chosen was a convenience sample. Gastroscopy or colonoscopy was performed with propofol sedation. Before and after endoscopy, the investigator drove the subjects to the laboratory to assess their driving skills using a driving simulation system, which employs 3 driving scenarios designed by professional transportation researchers. The blood propofol concentration was estimated before endoscopy, and 2 and 4 h after endoscopy. The primary outcome was the time required for subjects to recover their driving ability after propofol sedation. The secondary outcome was the blood propofol concentration before and after endoscopic procedures under propofol anesthesia. Results Thirty volunteers participated in the study and 18 of them completed all the interventions. In the low-risk S-curve scene, the mean acceleration, lane deviation, and number of deviations from the path at baseline (0.016 cm/s2, 42.50 cm, and 0.83, respectively) were significantly less than that at post-2 h (0.029 cm/s2, P = 0.001; 53.80 cm, P = 0.014; 2.06, P = 0.022). In the moderate-(overtaking) and high-risk (emergency collision avoidance) scenes, the tested parameters at baseline and post-2 h were statistically comparable. In the low-, moderate-, and high-risk scenes the tested parameters at baseline and post-4 h were statistically comparable. The total range of propofol was 120-280 mg.The mean blood concentration of propofol at post-2 h was 0.81 ± 0.40 µg/mL, and at post-4 h was below the limit of detection. Conclusion After endoscopy performed under propofol sedation, subjects’ driving abilities were completely restored at 4 h when tested on a simulator.

Abstract Background The usefulness of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) for patients with stage I lung adenocarcinoma with micropapillary (MIP) components remains unclear. We analyzed whether postoperative ACT could reduce recurrence in patients with stage I lung adenocarcinoma with MIP components, thereby improving their overall survival (OS) and disease‐free survival (DFS). Methods Data for patients with pathologically confirmed stage I lung adenocarcinoma with MIP components from January 2012 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. OS and DFS were analyzed in groups and subgroups. Results Overall, 259 patients were enrolled. Chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infection significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality in bronchiectasis patients. Initiating antibiotics early may lead to the eradication of PA. Here we outline the design of a trial (ERASE; NCT06093191) assessing the efficacy and safety of inhaled tobramycin, alone or with oral ciprofloxacin, in bronchiectasis patients with a new isolation of PA. This multicentre, 2×2 factorial randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial includes a 2-week screening period, a 12-week treatment phase (with a combination of ciprofloxacin or a placebo at initial 2 weeks) and a 24-week follow-up. 364 adults with bronchiectasis and a new PA isolation will be randomly assigned to one of four groups: placebo (inhaled saline and ciprofloxacin placebo twice daily), ciprofloxacin alone (750 mg ciprofloxacin and inhaled saline twice daily), inhaled tobramycin alone (inhaled 300 mg tobramycin and ciprofloxacin placebo twice daily) or a combination of both drugs (inhaled 300 mg tobramycin and 750 mg ciprofloxacin twice daily). The primary objective of this study is to assess the proportion of patients successfully eradicating PA in each group by the end of the study. Efficacy will be evaluated based on the eradication rate of PA at other time points (12, 24 and 36 weeks), the occurrence of exacerbations and hospitalisations, time to first pulmonary exacerbations, patient-reported outcomes, symptom measures, pulmonary function tests and the cost of hospitalisations. To date no randomised trial has evaluated the benefit of different PA eradication strategies in bronchiectasis patients. The ERASE trial will therefore generate crucial data to inform future clinical guidelines.

Our system’s prowess is evident in its low latency (2.97 ms at 100 nodes), high accuracy (rating of 6.8), and impeccable anti-collision capabilities during competitive events. In practical tests over 1000 meters, it dramatically reduced timing errors to a mere fraction of manual methods, demonstrating its precision and potential to transform physical training and education. This innovation stands as a beacon for the future of sports, driving the integration of technology and athletics.

Biochemical analyzers are vital instruments that utilize the principle of photoelectric colorimetry to quantify a specific chemical composition in body fluids. This analysis provides critical data for the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and overall health status of various diseases in clinical practice. However, the performance of a biochemical analyzer can vary significantly between different brands or over time within the same brand. Therefore, it is imperative to regularly assess the performance of the analyzer to ensure consistent results for longitudinal studies and to maintain day-to-day data consistency. Additionally, when multiple analyzers are utilized, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of each instrument to ensure accurate results across multiple platforms. In this study, we developed and verified an experimental evaluation scheme for the analytical performance of the instrument, chemometrics for biochemical analyzers, utilizing national reference materials and patient sera as the experimental subjects. We evaluated the performance of the optical system, temperature control system, sample-adding system, and detection system to confirm the feasibility of this scheme. We also compared the analytical performance of different brands of biochemical analyzers for routine biochemical tests, such as liver function, kidney function, ion, blood lipids, blood glucose, and myocardial enzyme spectrum. Using the AU 5400 as a control and the ADVIA 2400 as the comparison system, the relative variation in inter-instrument comparison data was found to be acceptable at the clinical medicine decision level. In conclusion, the performance of a biochemical analyzer can vary significantly between different brands or over time within the same brand. Regular evaluations are necessary to ensure accurate and consistent results across different analyzers. This study provides a feasible scheme for evaluating the analytical performance of biochemical analyzers that can be used to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the results of different brands of automatic chemical analyzers in the laboratory.
