101. Multimedia sensor image detection based on constrained underdetermined equation

Abstract

In order to study the image detection of multimedia sensor based on constrained under determined equation, this paper proposes the improvement of image sensor quality detection method based on image recognition algorithm. Firstly, the principle and steps of the under determined method are explained, and the complexity of the algorithm is analyzed. The image sensor is the most important part of the mobile camera, which determines the performance of the mobile camera, and its assembly quality largely determines the quality of the whole mobile camera. The case studied in this paper is model h mobile phone camera, and the first pass rate of good products is only 80%. In order to meet the 95% pass rate of good products required by customers, it is necessary to comprehensively improve the processes that have a great impact on product quality, so as to improve the first pass rate of products, achieve quality objectives and reduce manufacturing failure costs. In order to find out the threshold value of the height information measured by the improved method, to determine whether the product is good, and to find out the process that has a great impact on the surface flatness of the image sensor, the product measurement experiment is specially set. The improved war page test method was used to measure the products of each experimental group. Among them, No. 22, No. 39 and No. 40 products are poor due to changes in physical properties in subsequent production, and cannot flow to the next process for production. Therefore, the data of No. 22, No. 39 and No. 40 are missing in the test data. A total of 133 groups of experimental data were obtained in this experimental test. The results showed that the standard deviations of group 1, group 2, group 3 and group 4 were 0.172, 0.125 and 0.304 respectively. That is, after the same product is treated by false hardening, heating hardening and base installation processes, the false hardening and heating hardening processes have relatively little impact on the surface flatness of the image sensor. After the base opening and installation process, the surface flatness of the image sensor begins to change. The standard deviations of the measurement results of group 1 and groups 4, 5, 6 and 7 were 0.304, 0.381, 0.391 and 0.514 respectively. That is, after the base installation, calibration, bonding, soldering and testing of the product, the surface flatness of the image sensor and the initial surface flatness have changed greatly. Therefore, production technicians can focus on the process that starts to change, that is, the base installation process. The improved method has the advantages of automatic operation, low error, low error rate and so on.

Abstract

The hydraulic support equipment is usually used to support the roof in underground mining. During this process, the support bears frequent impact load, which greatly weakens its dynamic stability. To study the dynamic response characteristics of the support, when it bears the impact load at the top beam and shield beam, the numerical model of the support is established using ADAMS and the equivalent variable stiffness damping system was used to replace the column system. An active static load is applied vertically above the top beam to simulate the roof gravity force, and the impact load is applied downward perpendicular to the top beam and shield beam. Based on the above model, the dynamic response of the key parts of the support, when different impact loads are applied to the top beam and shield beam, and the influence of offset loading on the stability of the support are analyzed. Then, when considering asymmetric bracing conditions, the dynamic characteristics of hydraulic support under impact load are discussed by setting different initial support forces. The results show that when under a single impact load, the load variation coefficient of the front column reaches 1.41, which is the most sensitive to the impact load at the front end of the top beam. When the top beam and shield beam bear the impact load at the same time, the support hinge joint response more violently to the impact load acting on the top beam end and the upper area of the shield beam, and the maximum load change coefficient is 0.64, which greatly affects the overall stability of the hydraulic support. When the support bears to lateral torque, the weakening effect of offset load acting on different positions on the bearing performance of the support is the same, and the magnitude of offset load is positively correlated with the weakening effect. When considering the different initial load ratios (ILR) of the column, it is found that the hinge joint of top beam and shield beam is the most sensitive to the change of ILR, and the insufficient initial support of the front column has the greatest weakening effect on the bearing performance of the support. The research results can help to optimize the structure of the support shield support and improve the bearing reliability of the hydraulic support.

Abstract

Policy distillation,a method of transferring knowledge from one policy to another,has achieved great success in challenging reinforcement learning tasks.The typical policy distillation approach uses a teacher-student policy model,where know-ledge is transferred from the teacher policy,which has excellent empirical data,to the student policy.Obtaining a teacher policy is computationally intensive,so dual policy distillation(DPD) framework is proposed,which maintains two student policies to transfer knowledge to each other and no longer depends on the teacher policy.However,if one of the student policies cannot surpass the other through self-learning,or if the two student policies converge after distillation,the deep reinforcement learning algorithm combined with DPD degenerates into a single policy gradient optimization approach.To address the problems mentioned above,the concept of similarity between student policies is given,and the similarity constrained dual policy distillation(SCDPD) framework is proposed.The framework dynamically adjusts the similarity between two students' policies in the process of knowledge transfer,and has been theoretically shown to be effective in enhancing the exploration of students′ policies as well as the stability of algorithms.Experimental results show that the SCDPD-SAC algorithm and SCDPD-PPO algorithm,which combine SCDPD with classical off-policy and on-policy deep reinforcement learning algorithms,have better performance compared with classical algorithms on multiple continuous control tasks.

Abstract

In order to analyze motion and anti-slip characteristics of a limited-slip differential with curve-faced gear-pair, a static model of the differential is established based on the principle of the curve-faced gear pair meshing and the differential. The influence of the order, the eccentricity and the gear pair's velocity on the differential's motion characteristics when turning is analyzed. The dynamic characteristics of the limited-slip differential with curve-faced gears are worked out with the Adams software. The results show that, compared with the ordinary cone differential, the limited-slip differential with curve-faced gears has significant anti-slip characteristics, and the anti-slip coefficient can reach 2.5. By simplifying the limited-slip differential with curve-faced gear pair, an experimental platform is built. The deflection angular velocity value of the non-circular planetary gear is obtained, which verifies its theoretical value's accuracy in the differential state.

105. The Impact of Dual Enrollment on College Application Choice and Admission Success. EdWorkingPaper No. 24-1018

Abstract

Dual enrollment (DE) is one of the fastest growing programs that support the high school-to-college transition. Yet, there is limited empirical evidence about its impact on either students' college application choices or admission outcomes. Using a fuzzy regression discontinuity approach on data from two cohorts of ninth-grade students in one anonymous state, we found that taking DE credits increased the likelihood of applying to highly selective in-state four-year institutions. Attempting DE credits also increased the probability of gaining admission to a highly selective in-state four-year college. Heterogeneous analysis further indicates that the gains were extended across Black, Latinx, and white student populations.

Abstract

Teachers of color often work in schools with few colleagues from the same racial or ethnic background. This "racial isolation" may affect their work experiences and important job outcomes, including retention. Using longitudinal administrative and survey data, we investigate the degree to which Tennessee teachers who are more racially isolated are more likely to turn over. Accounting for other factors, we find that racially isolated Black teachers are more likely to leave their schools than less isolated teachers. This turnover is driven by transfers to a different district and exiting the profession altogether. Consistent with an explanation that isolated teachers' work experiences differ, they also report less collaboration with colleagues and receive lower observation scores.

Abstract

Objective To explore the application value of skull surface markers which are easy to be exposed in the operation of retrosigmoid sinus approach to establish coordinate system in the location of key holes. Methods The thin slice CT of 80 patients with trigeminal neuralgia or hemifacial spasm from the image database of Linyi Central Hospital of Shandong Province from January 2019 to January 2020 were selected for three⁃dimensional (3D) imaging. The coordinate system was constructed by the vertex of digastric sulci (point A), the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture (point B) and star point (point C). A total of 60 patients who were hospitalized in our hospital from May 2020 to May 2022 and required retrosigmoid sinus approach for microvascular decompression (MVD) were selected and randomly divided into reconstruction group, non⁃reconstruction group and control group, with 20 cases in each group. In reconstruction group, after the construction of the coordinate system during the surgery, the center of key hole in 3D skull model constructed before surgery was used to locate the location. In non⁃reconstructed group, after the intraoperative construction of coordinate system, the key hole positioning law of the imaging model was used as the center of the key hole. In control group, no coordinate system was established during the operation, and the center of the key hole was taken as the star point. After the center of the key hole was determined, MVD was performed routinely in all groups. The 3D skull model was constructed after surgery, and bone window area, bone defect area, the actual center of key hole (R0) and the center of ideal key hole (R, D value) were measured. Results The results of the imaging model showed the average coordinates of point R were [(4.60±3.89) mm, (4.88±4.14) mm], and the approximate coordinates were (5 mm, 5 mm) after the establishment of the coordinate system with the vertex of digastric sulcus (point A), the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture (point B) and star point (point C). The coincidence rate between the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture and the transverse sinus groove was 95.63% (153/160), and the coincidence rate between the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture and the vertex of digastric sulcus and the superior curve of sigmoid sinus groove was 93.13% (149/160). The coincidence rate between the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture and the vertex line of digastric sulcus and the superior and vertical segment of sigmoid sulcus was 71.25% (114/160). The results showed the bone window area, bone defect area and D value were significantly different among 3 groups (P=0.000, for all), and the bone window area, bone defect area and D value in reconstruction group and non⁃reconstruction group were all smaller than those in control group (P＜0.01, for all). Bone window area (P=0.009) and D value (P=0.000) in reconstructed group were also smaller than those in non⁃reconstructed group. Conclusions In the absence of preoperative CT 3D reconstruction of the skull, a coordinate system was established with the vertex of the digastric sulcus (point A), the intersection of temporal scale and parietal lacustrine suture (point B) and star point (point C), and a bone window was formed with the coordinate point (5 mm, 5 mm) as the center of the key hole to better locate the location of the key hole.

108. Noncredit Career and Technical Education Programs in Virginia. Early Findings from the FastForward Study

Abstract

Across the country, as technology continues to advance rapidly, the labor market exhibits a growing need for workers who receive frequent and ongoing skill development. Employers in many fields struggle to find adequately trained workers to meet their needs. Community college noncredit career and technical education (CTE) programs are an important contributor to skill and workforce development and help to close this "skills gap." This brief summarizes early findings from a study of FastForward, which uses a pay-for-performance model to fund noncredit CTE programs at the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. FastForward aims to increase the supply of workers who receive credentials for high-demand occupations in Virginia. The FastForward study is focused on identifying institutional and programmatic factors that may influence learners' academic and labor market outcomes. This brief presents findings on the different approaches used by colleges and programs to deliver training, student and staff experiences in these CTE programs, and students' academic and labor market outcomes.

109. Density-oriented deep eutectic solvent-based system for the selective separation of polysaccharides from Astragalus membranaceus var. Mongholicus under ultrasound-assisted conditions

Abstract

The water extraction and ethanol precipitation method is an extraction method based on the solubility characteristics of polysaccharides that offers wide applicability in the extraction and separation of plant polysaccharides. However, this method leads to large amounts of proteins, nucleic acids, pigments, and other impurities in the polysaccharides products, which makes downstream purification complicated and time-consuming. In this study, a green, high-density natural deep eutectic solvents was used for the high-purity extraction and separation of polysaccharides from Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch) Bge. var. Mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao roots under ultrasound-assisted conditions. In this study, 16 different natural deep eutectic solvents were designed to screen the best solvent for extracting Astragalus polysaccharides (APSs). Based on the yield and recovery of APSs, a natural deep eutectic solvents composed of choline chloride and oxalic acid with a molar ratio of 1:2 was selected. The related factors affecting polysaccharides extraction and solvent precipitation were investigated. To improve the operating methodology, single-factor trials, a Plackett-Burman design, and a Box-Behnken design were used. The optimal extraction process conditions were obtained as follows: water content of 55%, liquid–solid ratio of 24 mL/g, ultrasonic irradiation time of 54 min, ultrasonic irradiation temperature of 50 °C, ultrasonic irradiation power of 480 W, ethanol precipitation time of 24 h, and ethanol concentration of 75%. Under optimal extraction conditions, the recovery of APSs was 61.4 ± 0.6 mg/g. Considering the special matrix characteristics of A. membranaceus var. Mongholicus roots, physical-technology-based ultrasonic waves promote penetration, and the mass transfer function also solves the bottleneck of high-viscosity deep eutectic solvents in the extraction stage. In comparison with the conventional method, the proposed method based on deep eutectic solvents isolation can significantly increase APSs recovery, which is beneficial to simplifying the process of polysaccharides purification by using solvent properties to separate extracts and reduce impurities in APSs.

Abstract

Temperature variation affects the growth performance of fish species due to growing constraints and trade-off on physiological functions. Here we experimentally investigated several metabolic and physiological parameters in Sinilabeo rendahli, an endemic fish species found in the Yangtze River in China. After a 14-day acclimation period, we measured routine metabolic rate (RMR), individual metabolic rate (MO2), temperature quotient (Q10), loss of equilibrium (LOE), and critical oxygen tension (Pcrit) at three different temperatures (15, 20, and 25°C). Moreover, we sampled the muscle tissue from juvenile S. rendahli under experimental conditions after 28 days of acclimation and performed transcriptome-RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The Pcrit of the fish at the above acclimation temperatures were determined to be 1.07, 1.28, and 1.33 mg·L−1, respectively, and corresponded with increasing acclimation temperatures (15–25°C). RMR was positively correlated with Pcrit (r = 0.4711, P = 0.0201), negatively correlated with LOE (r = −0.4284, P = 0.0367), and significantly positively correlated with MRcrit (r = 0.8797, P < 0.001) at temperatures ranging from 15 to 25°C. In addition, a total of 4,710 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. The results of DEG analysis and KEGG clustering analysis indicated that energy metabolism played a central role in thermal stress in S. rendahli for the major upregulated genes. This was followed by autophagy, mitophagy, cardiac muscle contraction, extracellular matrix (ECM)-receptor interaction, and protein digestion and absorption. This study is significant for understanding the adaptive response of S. rendahli to thermal stress. Even more importantly, this study demonstrates that S. rendahli is more suitable for cold-water life.

Abstract

In this study, we used the integral method of the probability density function to evaluate the detection efficiency of an inhomogeneous iodine cartridge source by fitting the function relationship between the efficiency of the 131I γ-ray and the height of the disk source from the detector. We constructed a mathematical model by combining the efficiency ratio of the positive and negative placement, K, and the distribution parameter, α, to determine the activity of 131I in the iodine cartridge. To verify this method, we analyzed the inhomogeneous iodine cartridge samples obtained from a gaseous iodine collection experiment. The average deviation of the total activity of 131I, calculated by using 131I γ-ray (364.48 keV), in the iodine cartridge between our method and the homogeneous iodine cartridge source obtained by employing disassembly-stirring-backfilling was 5.71%, and the maximum deviation was 8.54%. The results showed that the disk source calibration method of the probability density function can be used to determine the detection efficiency of inhomogeneous iodine cartridges, thereby providing a feasible method for monitoring gaseous iodine.

Abstract

To determine the optimal electrodeposition conditions for actinium in a nitric acid/ethanol electrolyte, the 228Ac nuclide was used for electrodeposition experiments in a nitric acid/ethanol electrolyte in this study. First, under a current of 0.1 A, the effect of the electrodeposition time on the electrodeposition of actinium was studied. Subsequently, under different currents, the effect of the direct current on the electrodeposition of actinium was studied (T=35 min). The effect of different acid concentrations on the electrodeposition of actinium was then studied (I=0.15 A, T=35 min). The influence of different alcohol-water ratios on actinium electrodeposition was also studied. The results showed that the electrodeposition yield of 228Ac could reach more than 90% under the following electrodeposition conditions: nitric acid/ethanol as the electrolyte, an electrodeposition time of 35 min, a current of 0.15 A, a nitric acid concentration of 0.05 mol/L, an ethanol-water ratio of 90%, and an electrolyte volume of 15 mL. The optimized electrodeposition conditions for actinium can be applied to environmental samples to prepare an actinium alpha source.

113. Optimization on extraction technology of bacteriostatic extract from Indocalamus leaves and its bacteriostatic test

Abstract

Objective: To study and optimize the extraction technology of bacteriostatic extract from Indocalamus leaves. Methods: The extracts were drawn from Indocalamus leaves by ultrasound-assisted, refluxing and immersing method with extraction solvents: water, ethyl acetate, pH 4 of hydrochloric acid solution, pH 4 of acetic acid solution, pH 10 of ammonia solution and different volume ratio ethyl alcohol. The tests were carried out to analyze the antimicrobial effects with indicator bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella Dysenteriae and Salmonella typhi and the total bacteriostatic circle was as inspection indicator, to find out the best extraction solvent and the best extraction method. Using water as extraction solvent, ultrasonic extraction method as method, an orthogonal test L9（33） was carried out by adjusting three impact factors. The impact factors were liquid-solid ratio, sonication period and sonication frequency. The orthogonal test found the optimal extraction process parameters and obtained the best extract. At the same time, the antimicrobial effect of the extract obtained under the optimized conditions was investigated according to the standard series of reference substances. Results: The results showed that water was the best solvent, and ultrasound-assisted method was the best method. The best extraction process parameters were as follows: the ratio of liquid to solid was 16∶1 （mL/g）, ultrasonic frequency was 4 times, ultrasonic period was 55 minutes. The inhibitory effect of the best extract on Bacillus Subtilis and Salmonella Typhi was equivalent to the effect of 0.01 and 0.03 mg/mL gentamicin, respectively. The bacteriostatic effects on Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Shigella Dysenteriae were greater than that of 0.05 mg/mL gentamicin. Conclusion: The water ultrasonic method is an effective method for extracting antibacterial substances from Indocalamus leaves, and the inhibitive effect of the extract on Bacillus Subtilis, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Shigella Dysenteriae and Salmonella Typhi is remarkable.

The aim of the study was to describe the risk of Shewanella xiamenensis in hospital environment through analysis of genomic comparison and resistance status.Methods: Seven S. xiamenensis strains were isolated from hospital wastewater. PCR and Sanger sequencing were carried out for detection of common carbapenemase genes. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed to determine the antimicrobial profile. Whole genome sequencing was applied, and sequences were further used for genomic analysis.Results: Seven Shewanella xiamenensis were all positive for blaNDM and blaOXA-48. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed all Shewanella xiamenensis were resistant to cefotaxime, ceftazidime, imipenem, meropenem, gentamycin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Whole genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis demonstrated the diversity of Shewanella xiamenensis despite isolating from one wastewater pool.Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of detection of three types blaOXA-48-like genes in one hospital in China. And we have detected multi-drug resistant S. xiamenensis from hospital wastewater. After excluding other diseases, 59 patients were finally selected as the OSAS group. In addition, 60 healthy people were selected as the control group. Serum RNA was then extracted. Eight RNA samples were randomly selected from the two groups for high-throughput miRNA sequencing. The 10 miRNAs with the greatest differences were selected as preselected markers from the results. Then, qRT-PCR was performed on the remaining RNA samples of the two groups to extract and verify the 10 miRNAs, and statistical analysis was performed between groups.Results: A diagnostic panel was constructed by a stepwise logistic regression model combined with the expression data of miRNAs in the validation phase. A four-miRNA panel was identified to better predict OSAS, and the model was calculated using the following formula: Logit (P)= 0.77– 1.65 × miR-486-5p - 4.56 × miR-148a-3p + 1.79 × miR-744-5p + 1.13 × let-7d-3p. The AUC for the four-miRNA panel was 0.955 (95% CI: 0.899 to 0.985; sensitivity = 91.38%, specificity = 91.38%). Abstract

New materials for combating bacteria-caused infection and promoting the formation of microvascular networks during wound healing are of vital importance. Although antibiotics can be used to prevent infection, treatments that can disinfect and accelerate wound healing are scarce. Herein, we engineer a coating that is both highly compatible with current wound dressing substrates and capable of simultaneously disinfecting and revascularizing wounds using a metal-phenolic nanoplatform containing an alloyed nanostructured architecture (Ag@Cu-MPNNC). The alloyed nanostructure is formed by the spontaneous co-reduction and catalytic disproportionation reaction of multiple metal ions on a foundation metal-phenolic supramolecular layer. This synergistic presence of metals greatly improves the antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogenic bacteria, while demonstrating negligible cytotoxicity to normal tissue. In infected rat models, the Ag@Cu-MPNNC could kill bacteria efficiently, promoting revascularization and accelerate wound closure with no adverse side effects in infected in vivo models. In other words, this material acts as a combination therapy by inhibiting bacterial invasion and modulating bio-nano interactions in the wound.

Common corn starch-lauric acid complex (CSLA) was prepared by extrusion treatment combined with cool storage. The effects of extrusion treatment combined with cool storage on the gelatinization degree, complexing index, thermal properties, crystal structure and digestive properties of CSLA were systematically investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The results showed that compared with extrusion treatment, extrusion treatment combined with cool storage was beneficial to the formation of common corn starch-lauric acid complex, the complexing index increased from 29% to 35%, and the relative crystallinity increased from 25.20% to 31.82%. Extrusion treatment combined with cool storage can reduce the digestibility of the compound and increase the content of RS from 38.07% to 49.82%. The results of thermal properties showed that extrusion treatment combined with cool storage made common corn starch and lauric acid form VI- type complex with low thermal stability, and the melting temperature was 89.95~101.33 ℃, while common corn starch and endogenous lipids formed a VII- type complex with high thermal stability, and the melting temperature was 106.73~ 117.48 ℃. The results can provide reference for the preparation of starch-fatty acid complex with low digestibility and the preparation of anti-digestibility starch food.

Objective To investigate the transcriptomic changes in primary human oral keratinocytes (pHOKs) after coculture with Prevotella melaninogenica (P.m) and to verify the changes in human oral keratinocyte (HOK) cell lines. Methods pHOK was isolated and cocultured with P.m for 0, 4 and 24 h. Total RNA was extracted, a gene library was constructed, transcriptional sequencing was performed, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were analyzed, gene ontology (GO) pathway analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed, and the validation of DEGs was performed by qRT-PCR and Western Blot in the HOK and P.m coculture cell model. Results 1 788 DEGs were detected between the 4 h group and control group, including upregulated DEGs such as lymphocyte cytosolic protein 1(LCP1), keratin 7 (KRT7) and Cilia and flagella associated protein 251(CFAP251) and downregulated DEGs such as FERM, ARH/RhoGEF and Pleckstrin domain protein 1 (FARP1), WW domain containing transcription regulator 1(WWTR1) and Discoidin, CUB and LCCL domain-containing protein 2 (DCBLD2). 1 832 DEGs were detected between the 24 h group and control group, including upregulated DEGs such as LCP1, complement C1s(C1S), kynureninase (KYNU) and downregulated DEGs such as phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1), FARP1 and FKBP prolyl isomerase 10 (FKBP10). There were 1 090 common differentially expressed genes (cDEGs) in the 4 h and 24 h groups, including LCP1, KYNU and long intergenic nonprotein coding RNA 958 (LINC00958). As the heat exchange component of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system, the evaporator directly affects the overall operation performance of the system. In this paper, an analytical method for energy level on the working fluid side of evaporator is proposed based on the energy level and enerty theory. The reliability, validity, and correlation of the proposed analytical method are studied by means of theoretical analysis, experimental evaluation, and Elman neural network (ElmanNN). The bilinear interpolation algorithm is used to analyze the non-linear relationship between the system parameters and the energy level on the working fluid side. In addition, the correlation between the heat exchange efficiency of the evaporator and the operating performance of the system is compared. Based on the back propagation neural network (BPNN), the high energy level area on working fluid side is accurately evaluated and verified, the direction and degree of the non-linear mapping relationship between the working fluid side energy level and the system performance are quantitatively evaluated, and the sensitivity of thermodynamic cycle parameters in the high energy level area on working fluid side is quantitatively evaluated. This study provides a novel approach to evaluate the operation of the evaporator in the ORC system. In addition, this study also provides guidance on how to keep the evaporator operating continuously in the high energy level area throughout the experiment.

This paper introduces a flexible statistical model for analyzing zero-inflated continuous data, which involves a novel zero-inflated Rayleigh (ZIR) distribution. The moment, entropy, order statistics and other structural properties of this distribution are derived. Some interesting conclusions are drawn while discussing the interrelationships between various extropies. Abstract

Soil microbes play vital roles in mediating the functions and services of terrestrial ecosystems in the context of ongoing climate change and human disturbance. There are complex interactions between soil microbial taxa. However, research on the drivers of soil microbial network complexity and stability based on microbial taxa interactions is still in its infancy. We examined network structure and the complexity and stability of soil microbial communities across a large-scale environmental gradient in semi-arid grasslands of northern China by combining network theory and high-throughput sequencing. We found that aridity was the strongest driver of soil microbial network structure. Increasing aridity directly reduced the complexity and stability of soil microbial networks by decreasing the ratio of microbial taxa that participated in network construction and the ratio of potential positive and negative interactions of networks. Soil heterogeneity enhanced microbial network complexity and stability by potentially promoting diverse host plants and mediating uneven distribution of soil resources. These findings suggest that aridity and decreasing soil heterogeneity may have detrimental influences on soil microbial functions and the associated plant performance. This study provides new insights into the controls of climatic and/or edaphic variables in regulating soil microbial networks and highlights the importance of environmental heterogeneity in community assembly mechanisms of soil microbes.

Abstract

With the development of information technology and the increasing complexity of industrial technology, there is an urgent need for a certain field to use big data and artificial intelligence to improve the management and decision-making level. In order to classify the field’s risk text data through intelligent algorithms, analysing the risk distribution and the major problems, this paper researches on the annotation methods of training data in this field. The proposed data annotation method is based on pattern matching, addressing the special problems of risk data annotation in this field (such as strong professionalism, small data volume, high accuracy requirement and timeliness requirements). A new matching pattern is generated through the steps of text segmentation, keyword extraction, pattern preliminary generation, pattern relation tree construction, pattern optimization, pattern generalization, pattern verification, classification and annotation, and final classification and annotation are performed after pattern matching. Performance tests in terms of accuracy, recall rate, and annotation time have shown that the overall performance of the proposed method outperforms that of traditional item-by-item manual annotation, and semi-automatic annotation methods through machine learning. The method described in this paper has strong application value for risk data annotation in this field, and also has certain reference significance for high-density, high-accuracy and high-timeliness data annotation in other fields.

124. Prediction of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events by Triglyceride Glucose Index in Predominantly Male Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic and chronic autoimmune disease that is characterized by persistent joint inflammation. RA patients experience a considerably increased risk of cardiovascular-related morbidity and mortality. The current study investigated the association between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in a predominantly male cohort of RA patients. Methods: A total of 1613 RA patients (81.53% male) were selected from the Kailuan study. The TyG index was calculated as the logarithmic product of fasting blood triglyceride and fasting blood glucose divided by two. MACEs were defined as the composite of non-fatal myocardial infarctions and non-fatal strokes. Cox proportional hazards analysis was performed to study the association between the TyG index and MACEs. Results: A total of 59 MACEs occurred during the median follow-up time of 5.32 years. Following adjustment for age and gender, analysis by multivariable Cox proportional hazards (model 1) showed that an elevated TyG index was associated with an increased risk of MACEs (quartile 2, hazard ratio (HR): 2.741, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.220–6.157, p = 0.015; quartile 4, HR: 2.521, 95% CI: 1.074–5.917, p = 0.034). After adjustment for other variables, Cox proportional hazards analysis (model 2) showed that an elevated TyG index was independently associated with an increased risk of MACEs (quartile 2, HR: 2.348, 95% CI: 1.009–5.465, p = 0.048). In addition, subgroup analysis showed a higher TyG index was significantly linked to an increased risk of MACEs in patients aged more than 65 years (quartile 2, HR: 6.048, 95% CI: 1.311–27.908, p = 0.021; quartile 4, HR: 12.074, 95% CI: 1.438–101.358, p = 0.022). Conclusions: The TyG index was associated with an increased risk of MACEs in a predominantly male cohort of RA patients. This index may be helpful for the prediction of MACEs in male patients with RA. Clinical Trial Registration: Registration number in the Chinese clinical trial registry: ChiCTR-TNRC-11001489.

Abstract

Shading is an important technique to protect tea plantations under abiotic stresses. In this study, we analyzed the effect of shading (SD60% shade vs. SD0% no-shade) on the physiological attributes and proteomic analysis of tea leaves in November and December during low temperatures. The results revealed that shading protected the tea plants, including their soil plant analysis development (SPAD), photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), and nitrogen content (N), in November and December. The proteomics analysis of tea leaves was determined using tandem mass tags (TMT) technology and a total of 7263 proteins were accumulated. Further, statistical analysis and the fold change of significant proteins (FC < 0.67 and FC > 1.5 p < 0.05) revealed 14 DAPs, 11 increased and 3 decreased, in November (nCK_vs_nSD60), 20 DAPs, 7 increased and 13 decreased, in December (dCK_vs_dSD60), and 12 DAPs, 3 increased and 9 decreased, in both November and December (nCK_vs_nSD60). These differentially accumulated proteins (DAPs) were dehydrins (DHNs), late-embryogenesis abundant (LEA), thaumatin-like proteins (TLPs), glutathione S-transferase (GSTs), gibberellin-regulated proteins (GAs), proline-rich proteins (PRPs), cold and drought proteins (CORA-like), and early light-induced protein 1, which were found in the cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplast, extra cell, and plasma membrane, and functioned in catalytic, cellular, stimulus-response, and metabolic pathways. In conclusion, the proliferation of key proteins was triggered by translation and posttranslational modifications, which might sustain membrane permeability in tea cellular compartments and could be responsible for tea protection under shading during low temperatures. This study aimed to investigate the impact of the conventional breeding technique (shading) and modern molecular technologies (proteomics) on tea plants, for the development and protection of new tea cultivars.

Abstract Background Previous studies have confirmed the oncogenic role of HMGB2 in various cancers, but the biological functions of HMGB2-derived circRNAs remain unknown. Thus, we intended to investigate the potential role of HMGB2-derived circRNAs in lung adenocarcinomas (LUAD) and squamous cell carcinomas (LUSC). Methods The expression profiles of HMGB2-derived circRNAs in LUAD and LUSC tissues and matched normal tissues were assessed using qRT–PCR. The role of circHMGB2 in the progression of the LUAD and LUSC was determined in vitro by Transwell, CCK-8, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry assays, as well as in vivo in an immunocompetent mouse model and a humanized mouse model. In addition, in vivo circRNA precipitation assays, luciferase reporter assays and RNA pulldown assays were performed to explore the underlying mechanism by which circHMGB2 promotes anti-PD-1 resistance in the LUAD and LUSC. Results The expression of circHMGB2 (hsa_circ_0071452) was significantly upregulated in NSCLC tissues, and survival analysis identified circHMGB2 as an independent indicator of poor prognosis in the LUAD and LUSC patients. We found that circHMGB2 exerted a mild effect on the proliferation of the LUAD and LUSC cells, but circHMGB2 substantially reshaped the tumor microenvironment by contributing to the exhaustion of antitumor immunity in an immunocompetent mouse model and a humanized mouse model. Mechanistically, circHMGB2 relieves the inhibition of downstream CARM1 by sponging miR-181a-5p, thus inactivating the type 1 interferon response in the LUAD and LUSC. Moreover, we found that the upregulation of circHMGB2 expression decreased the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy, and we revealed that the combination of the CARM1 inhibitor EZM2302 and an anti-PD-1 antibody exerted promising synergistic effects in a preclinical model. Conclusion circHMGB2 overexpression promotes the LUAD and LUSC progression mainly by reshaping the tumor microenvironment and regulating anti-PD-1 resistance in the LUAD and LUSC patients. This study provides a new strategy for the LUAD and LUSC treatment.

Abstract Background Seed dormancy and germination determine wheat resistance to pre-harvest sprouting and thereby affect grain yield and quality. Arabidopsis VQ genes have been shown to influence seed germination; however, the functions of wheat VQ genes have not been characterized. Results We identified 65 TaVQ genes in common wheat and named them TaVQ1–65. We identified 48 paralogous pairs, 37 of which had Ka/Ks values greater than 1, suggesting that most TaVQ genes have experienced positive selection. Chromosome locations, gene structures, promoter element analysis, and gene ontology annotations of the TaVQs showed that their structures determined their functions and that structural changes reflected functional diversity. Transcriptome-based expression analysis of 62 TaVQ genes and microarray analysis of 11 TaVQ genes indicated that they played important roles in diverse biological processes. We compared TaVQ gene expression and seed germination index values among wheat varieties with contrasting seed dormancy and germination phenotypes and identified 21 TaVQ genes that may be involved in seed dormancy and germination. Conclusions Sixty-five TaVQ proteins were identified for the first time in common wheat, and bioinformatics analyses were used to investigate their phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary divergence. qRT-PCR data showed that 21 TaVQ candidate genes were potentially involved in seed dormancy and germination. These findings provide useful information for further cloning and functional analysis of TaVQ genes and introduce useful candidate genes for the improvement of PHS resistance in wheat.

In order to find out the problems and deficiencies of power supply enterprises in the process of power grid development, construction and operation, and grasp the development focus of power supply enterprises, based on the user demand, a criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC)-entropy weight method and root cause analysis method were proposed for the comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic analysis research of power grid development and operation in power supply enterprises. Firstly, combined with the basic ideas and general principles of index system construction, a comprehensive evaluation index system suitable for power grid development and operation was established, and the weight of each index was calculated based on the improved CRITIC-entropy weight method. Then, based on the relevant data of power grid development and operation of eighteen county-level power supply enterprises in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the comprehensive evaluation of power grid development and operation was carried out. Finally, the root cause analysis method was used to diagnose and analyze the causes of low comprehensive evaluation results of enterprises, and the corresponding improvement suggestions were put forward.

Descriptive analytical methods were used to analyze the included COVID-19 LSRs, and the study characteristics of COVID-19 LSRs were further assessed.Results: Sixty-four COVID-19 LSRs were included. Eighty-nine point one percent of LSRs were published on Science Citation Index (SCI) journals, and 64.1% publication with an impact factor (IF) > 5 and 17.2% with an IF > 15 among SCI journals. The first unit of the published LSRs for COVID-19 came from 19 countries, with the largest contribution from the UK (17.2%, 11/64). Forty point six percent of LSRs for COVID-19 were related to therapeutics topic which was considered the most concerned perspective for LSRs for COVID-19. Seventy-six point six percent of LSRs focused on the general population, with less attention to children, pregnant women and the elderly. However, the LSR for COVID-19 was reported incomplete on “living” process, including 40.6% of studies without search frequency, 79.7% of studies without screening frequency, 20.3% of studies without update frequency, and 65.6% of studies without the timing or criteria of transitioning LSR out of living mode.Conclusion: Although researchers in many countries have applied LSRs to COVID-19, most of the LSRs for COVID-19 were incomplete in reporting on the “living” process and less focused on special populations. This could reduce the confidence of health-care providers and policy makers in the results of COVID-19 LSR, thereby hindering the translation of evidence on COVID-19 LSR into clinical practice. In BD patients, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity is associated with stress. This study aimed to examine the relationship between HPA axis activity and BD symptoms in various clinical states, as well as how personality influences the process.Methods: This study investigated the differences in HPA axis activity among four BD states. We enrolled 813 BD patients in an 8-week longitudinal study to examine the relationship between HPA axis activity and symptom trajectories using dynamic temporal warping (DTW) analysis and an unsupervised machine learning technique. Furthermore, using mediation analyses, the relationship between the HPA axis, personality, and BD symptoms was investigated.Results: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis showed that glucocorticoid cortisol (CORT) and adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) did not differ significantly among the four clinical states of BD. The DTW integrating clustering analysis revealed that the two clusters were optimal, with cluster 1 characterized by severe manic symptoms, which then improved, and cluster 2, characterized by milder manic severity, which also improved. The two clusters showed different ACTH levels (t = 2.289, p = 0.022), and logistic regression analysis revealed a slight positive association between ACTH levels and cluster 1. Furthermore, the mediation analysis indicated that ACTH influences curative efficacy via conscientiousness (βc =0.103, p=0.001).Discussion: In conclusion, we found that a higher level of ACTH is associated with severe manic symptoms, indicating a chronic stress response in BD patients. Additionally, the ACTH levels affect short-term BD curative efficacy via the mediation of conscientiousness, providing a psychotherapeutic strategy direction for BD.Keywords: bipolar disorder, hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis, personality, dynamic time warping analysis, mediation analysis

The morphology of the micelles was observed by the TEM. The particle size and zeta potential were measured via the nanometer particle size analyzer. The drug loading, encapsulation and in vitro release rates of micelles were detected by the HPLC. The UPLC-ESI-MS/MS methods were used to measure the ISL concentrations of ISL in plasma and main tissues after intravenous administration, and compared the pharmacokinetics and tissue distributions between ISL and ISL-M. In the MCAO mice model, the protective effects of ISL and ISL-M were confirmed via the behavioral and molecular biology experiments.Results: The results showed that the drug loading of ISL-M was 7.63 ± 2.62%, the encapsulation efficiency was 68.17 ± 6.23%, the particle size was 40.87 ± 4.82 nm, and the zeta potential was − 34.23 ± 3.35 mV. The in vitro release experiments showed that ISL-M had good sustained-release effect and pH sensitivity. Compared with ISL monomers, the ISL-M could significantly prolong the in vivo circulation time of ISL and enhance the accumulation in the brain tissues. The ISL-M could ameliorate the brain injury induced by the MCAO mice via inhibition of cellular autophagy and neuronal apoptosis. Abstract

Ionic liquids (ILs) begin to be applied in more broad scopes and even in medicine steadily, so it is very necessary to study their biocompatibility, bioactivity, and influence on blood. For the first time, the main effects of popular imidazolium ILs with common anions and alkylated cations on rabbit blood were explored and compared comprehensively. A series of key indices and characteristic methods were applied in this systematic study. The thrombolytic properties in vitro of these ILs and their interactions with two kinds of serum albumins were also studied. This study provides key data and lays foundation for further applications of ILs and risk assessments in related fields.

Abstract

An angular analysis of the $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi e^+e^-$ decay is performed using the proton-proton collision dataset collected between 2011 and 2018 by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and $13\,{\rm TeV}$. The analysis is performed in the very low dielectron invariant mass-squared region between $0.0009$ and $0.2615\,{\rm GeV}^2\!/c^4$. The longitudinal polarisation fraction of the $\phi$ meson is measured to be less than $11.5\%$ at $90\%$ confidence level. The $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{\mathcal{R}e C\!P}$ observable, which is related to the lepton forward-backward asymmetry, is measured to be $0.116 \pm 0.155 \pm 0.006$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The transverse asymmetries, $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{(2)}$ and $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{\mathcal{I}m C\!P}$ , which are sensitive to the virtual photon polarisation, are found to be $-0.045 \pm 0.235 \pm 0.014$ and $0.002 \pm 0.247 \pm 0.016$, respectively. 136. Information Extraction from Clinical Notes: Are We Ready to Switch to Large Language Models?

Abstract

Backgrounds: Information extraction (IE) is critical in clinical natural language processing (NLP). While large language models (LLMs) excel on generative tasks, their performance on extractive tasks remains debated. Methods: We investigated Named Entity Recognition (NER) and Relation Extraction (RE) using 1,588 clinical notes from four sources (UT Physicians, MTSamples, MIMIC-III, and i2b2). We developed an annotated corpus covering 4 clinical entities and 16 modifiers, and compared instruction-tuned LLaMA-2 and LLaMA-3 against BiomedBERT in terms of performance, generalizability, computational resources, and throughput to BiomedBERT. Results: LLaMA models outperformed BiomedBERT across datasets. With sufficient training data, LLaMA showed modest improvements (1% on NER, 1.5-3.7% on RE); improvements were larger with limited training data. On unseen i2b2 data, LLaMA-3-70B outperformed BiomedBERT by 7% (F1) on NER and 4% on RE. However, LLaMA models required more computing resources and ran up to 28 times slower. We implemented "Kiwi," a clinical IE package featuring both models, available at https://kiwi.clinicalnlp.org/. Conclusion: This study is among the first to develop and evaluate a comprehensive clinical IE system using open-source LLMs. Results indicate that LLaMA models outperform BiomedBERT for clinical NER and RE but with higher computational costs and lower throughputs. These findings highlight that choosing between LLMs and traditional deep learning methods for clinical IE applications should remain task-specific, taking into account both performance metrics and practical considerations such as available computing resources and the intended use case scenarios.

Abstract

Water's unique hydrogen-bonding network and anomalous properties present significant challenges for accurately modeling its structural, thermodynamic, and transport behavior across varied conditions. Although machine-learned potentials have advanced the prediction of individual properties, a unified computational framework capable of simultaneously capturing water's complex and subtle properties with high accuracy has remained elusive. Here, we address this challenge by introducing NEP-MB-pol, a highly accurate and efficient neuroevolution potential trained on extensive MB-pol reference data with coupled-cluster-level accuracy, combined with path-integral molecular dynamics and quantum-correction techniques to incorporate nuclear quantum effects. This NEP-MB-pol framework reproduces experimentally measured structural, thermodynamic, and transport properties of water across a broad temperature range, achieving simultaneous, fast, and accurate prediction of self-diffusion coefficient, viscosity, and thermal conductivity. Abstract

The first measurement of $\phi(1020)$ meson production in fixed-target $p$Ne collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=68.5$ GeV is presented. The $\phi(1020)$ mesons are reconstructed in their $K^{+}K^{-}$ decay in a data sample consisting of proton collisions on neon nuclei at rest, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $21.7 \pm 1.4$ nb$^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb detector at CERN. The $\phi(1020)$ production cross-section in the centre-of-mass rapidity range of $-1.8

Abstract

To ensure secure and reliable communication in wireless systems, authenticating the identities of numerous nodes is imperative. Traditional cryptography-based authentication methods suffer from issues such as low compatibility, reliability, and high complexity. Physical-Layer Authentication (PLA) is emerging as a promising complement due to its exploitation of unique properties in wireless environments. Recently, Machine Learning (ML)-based PLA has gained attention for its intelligence, adaptability, universality, and scalability compared to non-ML approaches. However, a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art ML-based PLA and its foundational aspects is lacking. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of characteristics and technologies that can be used in the ML-based PLA. We categorize existing ML-based PLA schemes into two main types: multi-device identification and attack detection schemes. In deep learning-based multi-device identification schemes, Deep Neural Networks are employed to train models, avoiding complex processing and expert feature transformation. Deep learning-based multi-device identification schemes are further subdivided, with schemes based on Convolutional Neural Networks being extensively researched. In ML-based attack detection schemes, receivers utilize intelligent ML techniques to set detection thresholds automatically, eliminating the need for manual calculation or knowledge of channel models. ML-based attack detection schemes are categorized into three sub-types: Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, and Reinforcement Learning. Additionally, we summarize open-source datasets used for PLA, encompassing Radio Frequency fingerprints and channel fingerprints. 140. Lightweight holographic near-eye display system with self-charging capability using solar energy

Abstract

Near-eye display plays an important role in emerging spatial computing systems, providing a distinctive visual effect of virtual-real fusion. However, its application for all-day wear is greatly limited by the bulky structure, energy expenditure, and continuous battery heating. Here, we propose a lightweight holographic near-eye display system that takes advantage of solar energy for self-charging. To achieve the collection of solar energy and near-eye display without crosstalk, holographic optical elements (HOE) are used to diffract sunlight and signal light into a common waveguide. Then, small-area solar cells convert the collected solar energy and power the system. Compact power supply components replace heavy batteries, contributing to the lightweight design. The simple acquisition of solar energy provides the system with sustainable self-charging capability. We believe that the lightweight design and continuous energy input solution will significantly promote the popularity of near-eye display in our daily lives.

Abstract

Physical-Layer Authentication (PLA) offers endogenous security, lightweight implementation, and high reliability, making it a promising complement to upper-layer security methods in Edge Intelligence (EI)-empowered Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). However, state-of-the-art Channel State Information (CSI)-based PLA schemes face challenges in recognizing mobile multi-users due to the limited reliability of CSI fingerprints in low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) environments and the constantly shifting CSI distributions with user movements. To address these issues, we propose a Temporal Dynamic Graph Convolutional Network (TDGCN)-based PLA scheme. This scheme harnesses Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRSs) to refine CSI fingerprint precision and employs Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to capture the spatio-temporal dynamics induced by user movements and IRS deployments. Specifically, we partition hierarchical CSI fingerprints into multivariate time series and utilize dynamic GNNs to capture their associations. Additionally, Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCNs) handle temporal dependencies within each CSI fingerprint dimension. Dynamic Graph Isomorphism Networks (GINs) and cascade node clustering pooling further enable efficient information aggregation and reduced computational complexity. Abstract

In practical satellite-based quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, the preparation and transmission of polarization-encoding photons suffer from complex environmental effects and high channel-loss. Consequently, the hinge to enhancing the secure key rate (SKR) lies in achieving robust, low-error and high-speed polarization modulation. Although the schemes that realize self-compensation exhibit remarkable robustness. Their modulation speed is constrained to approximately 2 GHz to avoid the interaction between the electrical signal and the reverse optical pulses. Here we utilize the non-reciprocity of the lithium niobate modulators and eliminate the modulation on the reverse optical pulses. As this characteristic is widely available in the radio-frequency band, the modulation speed is no longer limited by the self-compensating optics and can be further increased. The measured average intrinsic QBER of the different polarization states at 10 GHz system repetition frequency is as low as 0.53% over 10 min without any compensation. And the experiment simulation shows that the proposed scheme extends the transmission distance to more than 350 km. Abstract

Using 7.93 ${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 ${\rm GeV}$ with the BESIII detector, we present an analysis of the decay $D^{0} \to \eta \pi^- e^+ \nu_{e}$. The branching fraction of the decay $D^{0} \to a_{0}(980)^{-} e^+ \nu_{e}$ with $a_{0}(980)^{-} \to \eta \pi^{-}$ is measured to be $(0.86\pm0.17_{\text{stat}}\pm0.05_{\text{syst}})\times 10^{-4}$. The decay dynamics of this process is studied with a single-pole parameterization of the hadronic form factor and the Flatt\'e formula describing the $a_0(980)$ line shape in the differential decay rate. The product of the form factor $f^{ a_0}_{+}(0)$ and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ is determined for the first time with the result $f^{ a_0}_+(0)|V_{cd}|=0.126\pm0.013_{\rm stat}\pm0.003_{\rm syst}$.

144. New Separations and Reductions for Directed Preservers and Hopsets

Abstract

We study distance preservers, hopsets, and shortcut sets in $n$-node, $m$-edge directed graphs, and show improved bounds and new reductions for various settings of these problems. Our first set of results is about exact and approximate distance preservers. We give the following bounds on the size of directed distance preservers with $p$ demand pairs: 1) $\tilde{O}(n^{5/6}p^{2/3} + n)$ edges for exact distance preservers in unweighted graphs; and 2) $\Omega(n^{2/3}p^{2/3})$ edges for approximate distance preservers with any given finite stretch, in graphs with arbitrary aspect ratio. Additionally, we establish a new directed-to-undirected reduction for exact distance preservers. We show that if undirected distance preservers have size $O(n^{\lambda}p^{\mu} + n)$ for constants $\lambda, \mu > 0$, then directed distance preservers have size $O\left( n^{\frac{1}{2-\lambda}}p^{\frac{1+\mu-\lambda}{2-\lambda}} + n^{1/2}p + n\right).$ As a consequence of the reduction, if current upper bounds for undirected preservers can be improved for some $p \leq n$, then so can current upper bounds for directed preservers. Our second set of results is about directed hopsets and shortcut sets. For hopsets in directed graphs, we prove that the hopbound is: 1) $\Omega(n^{2/9})$ for $O(m)$-size shortcut sets, improving the previous $\Omega(n^{1/5})$ bound [Vassilevska Williams, Xu and Xu, SODA 2024]; 2) $\Omega(n^{2/7})$ for $O(m)$-size exact hopsets in unweighted graphs, improving the previous $\Omega(n^{1/4})$ bound [Bodwin and Hoppenworth, FOCS 2023]; and 3) $\Omega(n^{1/2})$ for $O(n)$-size approximate hopsets with any given finite stretch, in graphs with arbitrary aspect ratio. Abstract

Non-equilibrium quantum transport is crucial to technological advances ranging from nanoelectronics to thermal management. In essence, it deals with the coherent transfer of energy and (quasi-)particles through quantum channels between thermodynamic baths. A complete understanding of quantum transport thus requires the ability to simulate and probe macroscopic and microscopic physics on equal footing. Using a superconducting quantum processor, we demonstrate the emergence of non-equilibrium steady quantum transport by emulating the baths with qubit ladders and realising steady particle currents between the baths. We experimentally show that the currents are independent of the microscopic details of bath initialisation, and their temporal fluctuations decrease rapidly with the size of the baths, emulating those predicted by thermodynamic baths. The above characteristics are experimental evidence of pure-state statistical mechanics and prethermalisation in non-equilibrium many-body quantum systems. Furthermore, by utilising precise controls and measurements with single-site resolution, we demonstrate the capability to tune steady currents by manipulating the macroscopic properties of the baths, including filling and spectral properties. 146. Orthogonal Spin-Orbit Torque-Induced Deterministic Switching in NiO

Abstract

The electrical switching of antiferromagnet (AFM) is very important for the development of ultrafast magnetic random-access memory (MRAM). This task becomes more difficult in antiferromagnetic oxide NiO which has complex anisotropy. We show that by utilizing two spin-orbit torques (SOT) from orthogonal currents, one can deterministically switch the magnetic moments of NiO in two electrical distinguishable states that can be read out using the spin Hall magnetoresistance. This deterministic switching relies on the symmetry of SOT on different sublattices, where the sign reversal of magnetic moments leads to constructive torques in the beginning and balanced torques in the end. In addition, we show that the easy-plane anisotropy plays a key role in the switching, which has been ignored in some previous works. The uniform magnetic dynamics in this work provides a clear physical picture in understanding the SOT switching of NiO. Furthermore, the electrical writing and reading function in our device advances the development of AFM-MRAM.

Abstract

Replacing the ferromagnet with ferrimagnet (FiM) in the magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) allows faster magnetization switching in picoseconds. The operation of a memory cell that consists of the MTJ and a transistor requires reversable magnetization switching. When a constant voltage is applied, we find that the spin-transfer torque can only switch the FiM-MTJ from parallel to antiparallel state. This stems from the small switching window of FiM and the dynamic resistance variation during the magnetization switching. We find the resulting current variation can be suppressed by reducing the magnetoresistance ratio. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the switching window can be expanded by adjusting the amount of Gd in FiM. We predict that the polarity of both switching current (Jc,switch) and oscillation current (Jc,osc) reverses at the angular momentum compensation point but not the magnetization compensation point. This anomalous dynamic behavior is attributed to the different physical nature of magnetization switching and oscillation in FiM, which must be considered when designing FiM-based MRAM.

Abstract

Oxide heterostructures provide versatile platforms for manipulating electronic and ionic conductive states. In this study, we demonstrate a remarkable billion-fold enhancement in room-temperature ionic conductivity within h-RMnO3/YSZ heterostructures, achieved through electric-field-assisted oxygen deficiency engineering. This enhancement is closely linked to substantial oxygen depletion in YSZ and is tunable by varying the thickness of the h-RMnO3 film layer and the applied voltage bias. Abstract

Gas source localization is pivotal for the rapid mitigation of gas leakage disasters, where mobile robots emerge as a promising solution. However, existing methods predominantly schedule robots' movements based on reactive stimuli or simplified gas plume models. These approaches typically excel in idealized, simulated environments but fall short in real-world gas environments characterized by their patchy distribution. In this work, we introduce SniffySquad, a multi-robot olfaction-based system designed to address the inherent patchiness in gas source localization. SniffySquad incorporates a patchiness-aware active sensing approach that enhances the quality of data collection and estimation. Moreover, it features an innovative collaborative role adaptation strategy to boost the efficiency of source-seeking endeavors. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that our system achieves an increase in the success rate by $20\%+$ and an improvement in path efficiency by $30\%+$, outperforming state-of-the-art gas source localization solutions.

Abstract

The dissociation of quarkonium states with different binding energies produced in heavy-ion collisions is a powerful probe for investigating the formation and properties of the quark-gluon plasma. The ratio of production cross-sections of $\psi(2S)$ and $J/\psi$ mesons times the ratio of their branching fractions into the dimuon final state is measured as a function of centrality using data collected by the LHCb detector in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV.
