PbZrO3 has been broadly considered as a prototypical antiferroelectric material for high-power energy storage. A recent theoretical study suggests that the ground state of PbZrO3 is threefold-modulated ferrielectric, which challenges the generally accepted antiferroelectric configuration. However, such a novel ferrielectric phase was predicted only to be accessible at low temperatures. Here, we successfully achieve the room-temperature construction of the strongly competing ferrielectric and antiferroelectric state by strain-mediated phase separation in PbZrO3/SrTiO3 thin film. We demonstrate that the phase separation occurs spontaneously in quasi-periodic stripe-like patterns under a compressive misfit strain and can be tailored by varying the film thickness. The ferrielectric phase strikingly exhibitsa threefold modulation period with a nearly up-up-down configuration, which could be stabilized and manipulated by the formation and evolution of interfacial defects under applied strain. The present results construct a fertile ground for further exploring the physical properties and applications based on the novel ferrielectric phase. Transition metal layered oxides (NaxTMO2), boasting a high theoretical specific capacity and affordability, have emerged as prominent cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). Their potential, however, is hindered when operating at higher voltage range (4.0–4.3 V) due to irreversible phase transition, heterogeneous surface reconstruction, and side reaction. Herein, using a straightforward room‐temperature liquid‐phase reductive method, a dual conformal protective layer is in situ constructed on the surface of NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2(NFM). This layer comprises both a spinel structure and an amorphous CoxB coating, thereby achieving a layered‐spinel‐CoxB configuration. The spinel structure provides 3D Na+ transport channels and works as a pillar to anchor the intrinsic layered structure. Simultaneously, the external CoxB layer effectively mitigates O loss, transition metal ion dissolution, and undesired side reactions on the surface. Benefiting from the synergistic effects on both the material's bulk and surface, the 1wt% CoxB coated cathode displays superior stability. After 300 cycles, the capacity retention is 79.6% between 2 and 4 V, significantly outperforming pristine‐NFM's(p‐NFM) 51.4%. When charged to 4.3 V, its capacity retention stands at 70%, much higher than that of p‐NFM (51.2%). The capacitors are in rising demand for cryogenic applications. As for now, it still remains an ongoing challenge for simultaneously achieving high energy storage density and cryogenic temperature stability. Herein, the strategy of stable backward phase transition was demonstrated in the antiferroelectric composition of (Pb0.9175La0.055)(Zr0.975Ti0.025)O3. As a result, we achieved high recoverable energy density about 10 J/cm3 with exceptional low-temperature stability from −160 to 25 °C. Multi-layer ceramic capacitors designed for pulse discharge applications also demonstrated high performance in cryogenic conditions, with the peak current fluctuations of less than 4%. Through in situ characterizations using x-ray diffraction, Raman spectra, and transmission electron microscopy, we discovered that the anisotropic structural evolution is responsible for a stable backward phase transition, providing the material with robust stability at cryogenic temperatures. These results offer a good paradigm for improving the temperature stability of antiferroelectric multi-layer capacitors to meet the rigorous demands of energy storage applications. Background: Premature ovarian failure (POF) has a profound impact on female reproductive and psychological health. In recent years, the transplantation of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) has demonstrated unprecedented potential in the treatment of POF. However, the heterogeneity of human UC-MSCs remains a challenge for their large-scale clinical application. Therefore, it is imperative to identify specific subpopulations within UC-MSCs that possess the capability to improve ovarian function, with the aim of reducing the uncertainty arising from the heterogeneity while achieving more effective treatment of POF. Methods: 10 × Genomics was performed to investigate the heterogeneity of human UC-MSCs. We used LRP1 as a marker and distinguished the potential therapeutic subpopulation by flow cytometry, and determined its secretory functions. Unsorted UC-MSCs, LRP1high and LRP1low subpopulation was transplanted under the ovarian capsules of aged mice and CTX-induced POF mice, and therapeutic effects was evaluated by assessing hormone levels, estrous cycles, follicle counts, and embryo numbers. RNA sequencing on mouse oocytes and granulosa cells after transplantation was performed to explore the mechanism of LRP1high subpopulation on mouse oocytes and granulosa cells. Results: We identified three distinct functional subtypes, including mesenchymal stem cells, multilymphoid progenitor cells and trophoblasts. Additionally, we identified the LRP1high subpopulation, which improved ovarian function in aged and POF mice. We elucidated the unique secretory functions of the LRP1high subpopulation, capable of secreting various chemokines, cytokines, and growth factors. Furthermore, LRP1 plays a crucial role in regulating the ovarian microenvironment, including tissue repair and extracellular matrix remodeling. Consistent with its functions, the transcriptomes of oocytes and granulosa cells after transplantation revealed that the LRP1high subpopulation improves ovarian function by modulating the extracellular matrix of oocytes, NAD metabolism, and mitochondrial function in granulosa cells. Conclusion: Through exploration of the heterogeneity of UC-MSCs, we identified the LRP1high subpopulation capable of improving ovarian function in aged and POF mice by secreting various factors and remodeling the extracellular matrix. Antiferroelectric ceramics can realize ultra-high energy storage, which benefits from transformation between an antiferroelectric phase and a ferroelectric phase. Understanding the mechanism of such phase transition is the key point for building the structure-property correlation. Here, we report the observation of electric-induced devil's staircase in the course of antiferroelectric–ferroelectric phase transition in PbZrO3-based antiferroelectric ceramics by in situ transmission electron microscopy. The dynamic evolution as-revealed in both reciprocal- and real-space involves stepwise rather than monotonic increase in modulation periods along with simultaneous proliferation of nanodomains. Desynchrony of phase transition is observed for incommensurate domains with different initial modulation periods within a single antiferroelectric domain. Then, the synergistic effect of the devil's staircase and as small as possible the initial modulation period is believed to contribute to the superior energy-storage performance. These findings will be helpful for the development of theories for antiferroelectric–ferroelectric phase transition and the design of high-power antiferroelectric materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soil microbes are the primary drivers of the material cycling of the forest ecosystem, and understanding how microbial structure and composition change across succession assists in clarifying the mechanisms behind succession dynamics. However, the response of soil microbial communities and assembly processes to succession is poorly understood in subtropical forests. Thus, through the "space instead of time" and high throughput sequencing method, the dynamics of the soil bacterial and fungal communities and assembly process along the succession were studied, where five succession stages, including Abandoned lands (AL), Deciduous broad-leaved forests (DB), Coniferous forests (CF), Coniferous broad-leaved mixed forests (CB), and Evergreen broad-leaved forests (EB), were selected in a subtropical forest on the western slope of Wuyi Mountain, southern China. The results demonstrated that succession significantly decreased soil bacterial α-diversity but had little effect on fungal α-diversity. The composition of soil bacterial and fungal communities shifted along with the succession stages. LEfSe analysis showed the transition from initial succession microbial communities dominated by Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, Ascomycota, and Chytridiomycota to terminal succession communities dominated by Actinobacteriota and Basidiomycota. Distance-based redundancy analysis (db-RDA) revealed that soil total organic carbon (TOC) was the main factor explaining variability in the structure of soil bacterial communities, and multiple soil environmental factors such as the TOC, soil total nitrogen (TN), C:N ratio, and pH co-regulated the structure of fungi. The null models illustrated that deterministic processes were dominant in the soil bacterial communities, while the stochastic processes contributed significantly to the soil fungal communities during succession. Collectively, our results suggest that different patterns are displayed by the soil bacterial and fungal communities during the succession. These findings enhance our comprehension of the processes that drive the formation and maintenance of soil microbial diversity throughout forest succession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exploring the epitaxial growth mechanism and ferroelectricity of CaBi2Nb2O9 (CBN) films is of great significance for its high-quality integration and application in ferroelectric memory. Herein, a high-quality (00l) CBN film was epitaxially grown on a NH4–HF solution etched SrTiO3 (STO) substrate by pulsed laser deposition. The epitaxial relationship of the CBN/STO heterostructure is (001)[100]CBN//(100)[110]STO, revealed by HRXRD and HRTEM. The single-layer Ca–O and double-layer Bi–O initial growth layers of CBN films were observed at the atomic scale and also discussed to clarify the factors affecting the growth modes. By comparing with the interface initial growth layer of BWO films, it is believed that the number of perovskite layers is an important factor affecting the quantity of the initial growth layers and growth mode in CBN films. In addition, the in-plane ferroelectricity of CBN thin films was demonstrated and the in-plane polarization switching was achieved by PFM measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
