Abstract

In wireless communication networks, the stock of spectrum, computing, storage and other resources at the edge was limited. The traditional decentralized and exclusive resource allocation resulted in weak resource reuse capability and low utilization rate. At the same time, it was difficult to ensure the fairness of resource sharing in the traditional resource scheduling process due to the lack of trust between the owners. First, a double auction model of computing and wireless communication resource joint management based on blockchain was proposed. In the model, a resource market was established, in which resource buyers and sellers allocated resources through double auctions. Secondly, blockchain was used to store the resource information of buyers and sellers to solve the mutual trust problem of all parties in the network. Finally, the experimental simulation was carried out to verify that the proposed model effectively improved the system performance and resource utilization efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Degradability of bone tissue engineering scaffold that matching the regeneration rate could allow a complete replacement of host tissue. However, the porous structure of biodegradable Mg scaffolds certainly generated high specific surface area, and the three-dimensional interconnected pores provided fast pervasive invasion entrance for the corrosive medium, rising concern of the structural integrity during the degradation. To clarify the structural evolution of the three-dimensional (3D) porous structure, semi-static immersion tests were carried out to evaluate the degradation performance in our previous study. Nevertheless, dynamic immersion tests mimicking the in vivo circulatory fluid through the interconnected porous structure have yet been investigated. Moreover, the effects of dynamic flow rates on the degradation deposition behavior of 3D porous Mg scaffolds were rarely reported. In this study, Mg scaffolds degraded at three flow rates exhibited different degradation rates and deposition process. A flow rate of 0.5 mL/min introduced maximum drop of porosity by accumulated deposition products. The deposition products provided limited protection against the degradation process at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The three-dimensional interconnected porous structure of Mg scaffold degraded at 2.0 mL/min well retained after 14 days showing the best interconnectivity resistance to the degradation deposition process. The dynamic immersion tests disclosed the reason for the different degradation rates on account of flow rates, which may bring insight into understanding of varied in vivo degradation rates related to implantation sites. © 2021

114. Blockchain-Based VEC Network Trust Management: A DRL Algorithm for Vehicular Service Offloading and Migration

Abstract

To meet the execution requirements of delay-sensitive services in vehicular edge computing (VEC) networks, vehicular services need to be offloaded to edge computing nodes. For complex, large-scale services, the services need to be migrated if the services are not completed before the vehicles leave the coverage of edge computing nodes. Trust and resource matching between areas thus become major problems. This paper studies the decision model of vehicular service offloading and migration. First, software-defined network (SDN) technology is introduced into the traditional network architecture, and a two-layer distributed SDN-controlled VEC network architecture is designed, which is divided into a domain control layer and an area control layer. In this framework, we use the consortium blockchain as a carrier to share network topology information between SDN controllers to prevent information leakage. We then established a service offloading and migration optimization problem model to minimize service execution delay, reduce energy consumption and maximize the throughput of the blockchain system. We describe the problem model as a Markov Decision Process (MDP), introduce a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm named asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C) and design a dynamic service offloading and migration algorithm (DSOMA) based on A3C to solve the problem. Simulation results show that DSOMA can increase the throughput of the blockchain system, and DSOMA is superior to the deep Q-learning (DQN) algorithm and greedy offloading algorithm in reducing service execution delay and system energy consumption. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Abstract

A series of host-activated Tb3+ and Eu3+-co-doped CaNb2O6 (CNO) phosphors with tunable luminescence were synthesized via high-temperature solid-state method with the purpose of developing single-component phosphors for white light-emitting diode (LED) devices. Benefiting from blue broadband emission of CNO and multiple energy transfer of NbO43− → Tb3+ → Eu3+, white light-emitting CNO:Tb3+, Eu3+ phosphors were achieved by reasonably adjusting the doping content of Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions. Two typical white light-emitting phosphors, CNO:0.015Tb3+, 0.02Eu3+ with color coordinate (0.33, 0.33) and CNO:0.10Tb3+, 0.05Eu3+ with color coordinate (0.40, 0.39), could maintain 63% and 73% of the initial integral intensity at 150 °C and had good color stability. Subsequently, the representative CNO:0.015Tb3+, 0.02Eu3+ phosphors were successfully applied to a 275 nm ultraviolet chip to fabricate a white LED device with a low correlated color temperature of 3464 K and a high color rendering index of 86.0. The above results indicate that synthesized single-component white light-emitting CNO:Tb3+, Eu3+ phosphors have good application prospects in the field of white LED. Moreover, this strategy of using self-activated host and multiple energy transfer also provides guidance for the design of novel white light-emitting phosphors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Breakdown process of the Klebanoff mode and origin of turbulence are experimentally investigated in detail. An acoustic excitation using a 2D roughness attached on the wall are used for T-S wave generation. Piezo-ceramic actuators are used to introduce the Klebanoff mode fluctuation. It is found that another shear layer, in which the spike phenomenon takes place and the turbulence starts, exists between the Lambda structures aligned in rows. 145. An injectable magnesium-coordinated phosphate chitosan-based hydrogel loaded with vancomycin for antibacterial and osteogenesis in the treatment of osteomyelitis

Abstract

Microbial infections of bones, particularly after joint replacement surgery, are a common occurrence in clinical settings and often lead to osteomyelitis (OM). Unfortunately, current treatment approaches for OM are not satisfactory. To address this issue, this study focuses on the development and evaluation of an injectable magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticle (NP)-coordinated phosphocreatine-grafted chitosan hydrogel (CMPMg-VCM) loaded with varying amounts of vancomycin (VCM) for the treatment of OM. The results demonstrate that the loading of VCM does not affect the formation of the injectable hydrogel, and the MgO-incorporated hydrogel exhibits anti-swelling properties. The release of VCM from the hydrogel effectively kills S.aureusbacteria, with CMPMg-VCM (50) showing the highest antibacterial activity even after prolonged immersion in PBS solution for 12 days. Importantly, all the hydrogels are non-toxic to MC3T3-E1 cells and promote osteogenic differentiation through the early secretion of alkaline phosphatase and calcium nodule formation. Furthermore, in vivoexperiments using a rat OM model reveal that the CMPMg-VCM hydrogel effectively kills and inhibits bacterial growth, while also protecting the infected bone from osteolysis. These beneficial properties are attributed to the burst release of VCM, which disrupts bacterial biofilm, as well as the release of Mg ions and hydroxyl by the degradation of MgO NPs, which inhibits bacterial growth and prevents osteolysis. Overall, the CMPMg-VCM hydrogel exhibits promising potential for the treatment of microbial bone infections.

146. Potential effects of teriparatide (PTH (1–34)) on osteoarthritis: a systematic review

Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common and prevalent degenerative joint disease characterized by degradation of the articular cartilage. However, none of disease-modifying OA drugs is approved currently. Teriparatide (PTH (1–34)) might stimulate chondrocyte proliferation and cartilage regeneration via some uncertain mechanisms. Relevant therapies of PTH (1–34) on OA with such effects have recently gained increasing interest, but have not become widespread practice. Thus, we launch this systematic review (SR) to update the latest evidence accordingly. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, and Embase from their inception to February 2022. Studies investigating the effects of the PTH (1–34) on OA were obtained. The quality assessment and descriptive summary were made of all included studies. Overall, 307 records were identified, and 33 studies were included. In vivo studies (n= 22) concluded that PTH (1–34) slowed progression of OA by alleviating cartilage degeneration and aberrant remodeling of subchondral bone (SCB). Moreover, PTH (1–34) exhibited repair of cartilage and SCB, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. In vitro studies (n= 11) concluded that PTH (1–34) was important for chondrocytes via increasing the proliferation and matrix synthesis but preventing apoptosis or hypertrophy. All included studies were assessed with low or unclear risk of bias in methodological quality. The SR demonstrated that PTH (1–34) could alleviate the progression of OA. Moreover, PTH (1–34) had beneficial effects on osteoporotic OA (OPOA) models, which might be a therapeutic option for OA and OPOA treatment.
