The 1950s in Australia began with the newly elected Menzies Government's campaign to ban the Communist Party of Australia, feeding into and sustaining growing anti‐communist rhetoric in the post‐war nation. Fears of communist infiltration coloured the actions of the Australian peace movement, with public commentators and political figures condemning the movement as a communist fifth column intent on destroying Australian society. Peace activists had to manage such perceptions of their work while navigating their own beliefs on politics and ideology. Using the women of the anti‐nuclear movement of the 1950s and 1960s as a case study, this paper demonstrates that while the movement would often be publicly characterised — both in contemporary sources and more recent literature — as divided along ideological lines, individual alliances were far more complex and entangled. Though Cold War divisions appeared to be upheld in public nuclear disarmament sentiment, private sentiments were far more nuanced. These women had to decide what was more important to them: the cause or the image. Ultimately, for many, communism was a pressing issue, but nuclear disarmament was more pressing still. The article discusses the participation of Christians in the public protests against the Cuban government which started on July 11, 2021. Topics explored include the arrest and imprisonment of sisters María Cristina Garrido and Angélica Garrido for their activism, the use of social media platforms by Cuban believers to speak against police violence, and the humanitarian assistance extended by several Christian organizations for the benefit of affected Cubans.

Most of the literature in social and political psychology has focused on two extremes regarding disadvantaged group members' position in society; that is, either surviving on subsistence levels or fighting to change societal structures. The overemphasis on these two extremes has given less attention to the everyday psychology of resistance. In addition, the psychological processes encompassing everyday resistance have been ignored in social and political psychology literature while examining disadvantaged group members. Thus, the present study explores the relationship between psychological and everyday resistance in the context of the women's movement in India. Furthermore, it examines the multiple forms and layers of resistance against patriarchal oppression and state violence that exist in different spheres and that activists were engaged in, beyond their activism/collective action. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyze interviews (N = 12) with Indian women activists available on the Global Feminism database. The analysis revealed the complexities and nuances in the relationship between psychological and everyday resistance. It provides detailed insight about the importance of the context and circumstances in shaping and determining the repertoires of resistance, issues of political intentions, recognition, erasure, and silencing associated with less prototypical or subaltern forms of resistance. Luisa Capetillo's revolutionary power was recognized in her time by allies and detractors alike, both in Puerto Rico and abroad. The scarcely examined archive of Puerto Rican and US-based newspaper coverage between 1911 and 1913 shows the significance of Capetillo's gesta (heroic feat) and gestos (gestures, movements), offering a powerful trace of her subversive walks and an instance of her own argument. Through her deliberately clothed and performed walks—as part of worker-led and anarchist manifestations and, on her own, as a de facto feminist statement—Luisa Capetillo became/was becoming an other woman. Not a single acera (sidewalk) or calle (street), nor any protest in the archipelago taking the form of a walk against power, has ever been the same after Luisa and her faldapantalón (skirt-pant). Attempting to reflect this premise, this essay traverses, on dreamy foot and bilingually, the author's past-and-present walking duermevelas with Luisa alongside the newspaper archive. Topics explored include her advocacy for the preservation of parks during her tenure in the board of directors of East Bay Regional Park District in California, the transformation of Mills College under her leadership as president of the institution, and the significant involvement of Reinhardt in the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

In 2020, Black Americans voted in historic numbers in the US presidential election. Black women political activists were instrumental in navigating voter suppression to increase voter turnout among Black communities. Here, I draw linkages between Patricia Hill Collins's conceptualization of motherwork and Black women's political activism. I reconceptualize Black women's motherwork as a political tool for preparing Black women for political candidacy to address issues that threaten Black family stability. I provide a conceptual history of motherwork and map out what Black women's political motherwork looks like for families and communities. I conclude with theoretical, analytical, and practical implications for family scientists to consider when using Black political motherwork in their scholarship and practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
