118. Geochemical characteristics of dolomite weathering profiles and revelations to enrichment mechanism of trace elements in the Jiujialu Formation, central Guizhou Province

Abstract

黔中早石炭世九架炉组铝土矿含矿岩系富集Ti、Li、Sc、V、Ga、Nb、Ta、Zr、Hf、Th和稀土（REEs）等'三稀金属'，具有成为独立矿床或伴生资源的潜力。这些元素大部分与九架炉组共有同一母岩，且富集程度受母岩的成分和风化作用控制。本研究选取九架炉组母岩乌当娄山关群白云岩和纳雍牛蹄塘组泥质白云岩的现代风化剖面为研究对象，研究元素在风化作用过程中的迁移特征及分布规律，进而为九架炉组微量元素的富集机制提供启示。研究获得以下认识：1）依据剖面结构、Zr-Hf、Nb-Ta、Y-Ho二元图特征及REE配分曲线和Eu/Eu*值的相似性表明研究区土层主要来源于基底或母岩的风化；2）白云岩风化成土过程中Si、Fe、Cr、As、Sb、Ti、Nb、Ta、Zr、Hf、Th、REEs等元素化学性质相对稳定，富集程度较高，而Ca、Mg、Na、K、Sr、P、Mo、Cd等元素化学性质活泼，容易淋失亏损；3）纳雍剖面REEs3+和Ca2+半径差与REEs富集系数相关性良好，表明碳酸盐岩风化过程中，含钙矿物磷灰石是稀土元素分配的重要控制因素；4）九架炉组的母岩也是Ti、Li、Sc、V、Ga、Nb、Ta、Zr、Hf、Th等微量元素的主要物质来源，母岩风化过程中，这些微量元素首先在副矿物、黏土矿物、铝矿物及磷灰石等矿物相中初步富集，之后随风化碎屑物一起沉积形成微量元素超常富集地层；5）纳雍剖面地表和地下水提供了部分P、Be、Zn、Sb、Pb、Y及REEs来源，指示水体迁入作用也是九架炉组REEs富集的重要原因。研究表明黔中九架炉组微量元素的来源较复杂，风化-沉积过程中，化学性质稳定的元素残留在风化碎屑物中并被搬运-沉积在负地形中，而化学性质活泼的元素首先被带入水体，在沉积-成岩过程中特定条件下发生二次富集作用（例如次生矿物的形成及吸附）形成微量元素富集的地层。

Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) is a scarce, but not an extremely rare element in the Earth's crust (crustal average: 0.2 ppm Cd). Geochemically, Cd exhibits thiophile, lithophile, and volatile behavior in different geologic processes. Biologically, it is a nutrient-like element that is closely related to P and Zn and is toxic element to organisms. Presently, Cd isotopes have been successfully utilized to trace Cd sources and nutrient cycling in marine systems in addition to unearthing other geochemical processes. Using published studies and our recent work, this survey summarizes the chemical preparation and mass spectrometry of Cd isotopes. It also reviews Cd isotopic compositions and fractionation mechanisms in nature as well as experiments.

Abstract

Tin isotope ratios of eight different geological reference materials were determined using Neptune and Neoma (Thermo Fisher, USA) multi‐collector‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (MC‐ICP‐MS) systems using the 117Sn‐122Sn double‐spike technique. Tin was purified by two‐stage ion‐exchange chromatography with a recovery of 85% ± 5%, with isobarically interfering matrix elements being reduced to negligible levels. Doping experiments indicated that the Neoma instrument was less affected by isobaric interferences than the Neptune instrument. The determined δ124/116SnSRM3161a values are consistent with published values, and the long‐term (> 6 months) intermediate precision was better than ±0.01‰ amu−1 for both instruments. The method allows the Sn isotope ratios of samples containing ~ 2 ng of Sn to be precisely determined with an Sn solution concentration of 1 ng g−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Niobium, Zr, REE, and Y are widely enriched in the Upper Permian coal-bearing strata in southwestern China and are regarded as a substantial resource. To better understand the occurrence modes and enrichment mechanisms of these rare metals, comprehensive heavy-mineral separation, Micro-Raman spectroscopy, EPMA, and LA-ICP-MS analyses of primary and secondary metal minerals were conducted in the polymetallic beds in western Guizhou. In addition, the XRD, XRF, and ICP-MS analyses of bulk rocks were carried out. Our results suggest that Nb is primarily hosted in secondary TiO 2 polymorphs which converted from primary Nb-rich rutile, and occurs as minor ilmenorutile and columbite-(Fe). The Zr is sequestered in both detrital zircon and secondary microcrystalline zircon. REE and Y (REY) are mainly incorporated into secondary florencite-(Ce), rhabdophane-(Ce), churchite-(Y), and zircon, also partially adsorbed by clay minerals. The assemblage of detrital zircon, Nb-rich rutile, and discrete Nb minerals reveals that rare metals are preconcentrated during the waning-stage Emeishan alkaline magmatisms. Complex zonings in rutile crystals may result from the diffusion of Nb5+ and Fe2+, and these grains are further overprinted by magmatic-hydrothermal and enveloped by ilmenorutile and columbite-(Fe). Furthermore, magmatic rutile is commonly converted into anatase, brookite, and leucoxene under supergene conditions, and then persisted as stable phases. Authigenic REY-rich (Al)-phosphates and zircon are sourced from the leaching, even decomposition of primary REY-phosphates and zircons. Their colloidal aggregates are precipitated from the acidic and oxidizing low-temperature fluids, which are superposed onto clay matrix. The mineralogical and geochemical features suggest that the polymetallic beds are enriched by both alkaline magmatic-hydrothermal processes in source rocks and supergene fluid alterations in sediments. This study gives new insights into the enrichment processes and conditions, and further extraction of critical metals in the coeval coal-bearing strata in southwestern China. 145. Selenium and Sulfur Systematics of Mafic Dykes in Western Fujian Province, Southern China

Abstract

Fifteen samples from three study areas (the Bancun diabase dykes, the Bali hornblende gabbro dykes, the Linzifen gabbro-diabase dykes) were collected and analyzed for selenium (Se), sulfur (S), copper (Cu), major and trace elements. In general, Se, S and Cu do positively correlate to each other. The concentration of S and Se and the S/Se ratio are higher than the corresponding value of primitive mantle (PM), and the Cu/S ratio falls in a narrow range (0.04–0.29), which is consistent with that of primitive mantle (0.05–0.20). The Bancun diabase dykes and the Bali hornblende gabbro dykes were located in an intraplate environment during the Late Mesozoic. Oceanic subduction was closely related to magmatic activities. The magmatic activities play an important role in the transportation mechanism of Se and S. Because those two groups were closer to fault zones, which may affect the distribution of S and Se and other elements. In the two groups, no crustal contamination was observed, indicating that all analyzed elements may come from enriched mantle metasomtism associated with slab subduction. However, the Linzifen gabbro-diabase dykes were located in an intraplate rift environment, and its invading age is older than the other two groups, the primitive magma comes from mantle, and there is an anomalous relation between S, Se and Al2O3, (La/Sm)N, and all these factors could result in higher S and Se concentration.
