114. Research on combustion performance of PVC foam in fire propagation apparatus

Abstract

Polyvinyl chloride foam (PVC) is widely used as the wall materials of the high-speed train. The combustion characteristics of PVC foam under the heat fluxes of 20-60 kW/m2 are investigated by fire Propagation Apparatus (FPA). The results show that the ignition time of PVC foam decreases with the increase of heat flux. The peak of heat release rate, mass loss rate and smoke production rate increase with the increase of heat flux. Under the condition of 60 kW/m2, the heat release rate has the peak value of 109.10 kW/m2. The research on the combustion characteristics of the PVC can be used to analyse the fire risk of the train and guide the formulation of safety measures.

123. The origin of dielectric relaxation behavior in TiO2 based ceramics co-doped with Zn2+, W6+ ions under a N2/O2 sintering atmosphere.

Abstract

Dense (Zn0.5W0.5)xTi1−xO2 (ZWTOx) ceramics were fabricated using a conventional solid state reaction method with sintering under a nitrogen atmosphere (ZWTOx-N2) and an oxygen atmosphere (ZWTOx-O2), respectively. Colossal permittivity (ε > 104) and low loss (tan δ < 0.1) were simultaneously achieved in ZWTOx-N2 ceramics, and two types of dielectric relaxation behaviors observed were interpreted to be due to interface polarization and disassociation between oxygen vacancies and trivalent titanium ions, respectively. The impedance plots suggested that the ZWTOx-N2 ceramics are electrical heterostructures composed of semiconductor and insulator grain boundaries, which proved that the CP performance of ZWTOx-N2 ceramics almost originates from the internal barrier layer capacitance (IBLC) effect. In addition, a series of anomalous dielectric behaviors such as low permittivity and low frequency dispersion were observed for ZWTOx-O2 ceramics; polarization (P)–electric field (E) hysteresis loop curves were obtained for ZWTOx-O2 ceramics, and that impedance plots have shown that the ZWTOx-O2 ceramics display higher insulation resistivity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations illustrated that the Zn2+–W6+ ion pairs are easy to form in ZWTOx-O2 ceramics, which causes destruction of the local lattice and thus leads to abnormal dielectric behavior. Abstract

Lead-free relaxor ceramics (1 − x)K 0. 5 Na 0. 5 NbO3 − x Bi(Mn 0. 5 Ni 0. 5 )O3 ((1 − x)KNN- x BMN) with considerable charge–discharge characteristics and energy storage properties were prepared by a solid state method. Remarkable, a BMN doping level of 0.04, 0.96KNN–0.04BMN ceramic obtained good energy storage performance with acceptable energy storage density W rec of 1.826 J/cm3 and energy storage efficiency η of 77.4%, as well as good frequency stability (1–500 Hz) and fatigue resistance (1–5000 cycles). Meanwhile, a satisfactory charge–discharge performance with power density P D ∼ 98.90 MW/cm3, discharge time t 0. 9 < 70 ns and temperature stability (30–180∘C) was obtained in 0.96KNN–0.04BMN ceramic. The small grain size (∼ 150 nm) and the high polarizability of Bi 3 + are directly related to its good energy storage capacity. This work proposes a feasible approach for lead-free KNN-based ceramics to achieve high-energy storage and ultra-fast charge–discharge performance as well as candidate materials for the application of advanced high-temperature pulse capacitors.
