104. Buffering Time Strategies for Wireless Full-duplex Systems under Poisson Traffic

Abstract

Full-duplex wireless communication has the potential to double the capacity of wireless networks by reducing the band occupancy of transmissions. However, a full-duplex capability cannot always reduce the band occupancy because the real traffic is not fully buffered. Buffering time while waiting for a packet to arrive at an opposite node is expected to reduce the band occupancy. In this study, we provide the first theoretical analysis of band occupancy and the mean waiting time for full-duplex communication with and without buffering time under traffic that is not fully buffered based on queueing theory, as well as the closed-form results. We also present the results of simulations of band occupancy and the mean waiting time. The basic analysis provided in this study shows how the mean waiting time and band occupancy are affected by the buffering time. When the buffering time is half the packet length, the band occupancy is reduced by approximately 15 %. In addition, under asymmetrical traffic, the results suggest that the buffering time should not be set at the node who has a higher traffic intensity compared with another node. Abstract

We have developed a novel technique for the measurement of the avalanche fluctuation of gaseous detectors using a UV laser. The technique is simple and requires a short data-taking time of about ten minutes. Furthermore, it is applicable for relatively low gas gains. Our experimental setup as well as the measurement principle, and the results obtained with a stack of Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs) operated in several gas mixtures are presented., Comment: A supplemental material (Addendum to be published in Nucl. Abstract

For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented., Comment: 22 pages, 19 figures

Abstract

The balance between bacterial colonization and its containment in the intestine is indispensable for the symbiotic relationship between humans and their bacteria. One component to maintain homeostasis at the mucosal surfaces is immunoglobulin A (IgA), the most abundant immunoglobulin in mammals.sup.1,2. Several studies have revealed important characteristics of poly-reactive IgA.sup.3,4, which is produced naturally without commensal bacteria. Considering the dynamic changes within the gut environment, however, it remains uncertain how the commensal-reactive IgA pool is shaped and how such IgA affects the microbial community. Here we show that acetate--one of the major gut microbial metabolites--not only increases the production of IgA in the colon, but also alters the capacity of the IgA pool to bind to specific microorganisms including Enterobacterales. Induction of commensal-reactive IgA and changes in the IgA repertoire by acetate were observed in mice monocolonized with Escherichia coli, which belongs to Enterobacterales, but not with the major commensal Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, which suggests that acetate directs selective IgA binding to certain microorganisms. Mechanistically, acetate orchestrated the interactions between epithelial and immune cells, induced microbially stimulated CD4 T cells to support T-cell-dependent IgA production and, as a consequence, altered the localization of these bacteria within the colon. Collectively, we identified a role for gut microbial metabolites in the regulation of differential IgA production to maintain mucosal homeostasis. Abstract

Even with advanced plasmid and viral vectors, attaining copy numbers of multiple genes among different transfected cells is challenging. We achieved one gene expression from a single-copy gene in one cell using a transgene competition system, a combination of the Kazusa cDNA clones and our dual recombinase-mediated cassette exchange system. All 48 nuclear receptors were simultaneously expressed in one dish at the same expression level in HEK293 using this system, and the cell proliferation rate was compared. Significant differences were observed between cells transfected with CMV- or EF1 promoter-driven expression of the 48 nuclear receptors after 8 weeks. The EF1-NR1I2 cell line, which exhibited the highest increase from 2 to 8 weeks, showed 1.13-fold higher proliferation than the EF1-DsRed line. On the other hand, the EF1-NR4A1 cell line, which showed the maximum decrease at 8 weeks, showed 0.88-fold lower proliferation than the EF1-DsRed line. The results were confirmed in both our transgene competition system and long-term growth experiments. Abstract

Background: Appropriate prognostic indicators are required for patients with stage IV colorectal cancer (CRC). Lymph node metastasis mainly involves four histological types of CRC. Some metastatic lymph nodes (mLNs) showing cribriform carcinoma are associated with distant metastasis in patients with node-positive CRC and are correlated with recurrence and survival in stage III disease. However, the significance of mLN histology in the prognosis of patients with node-positive stage IV disease remains unclear. Methods: We enrolled 449 consecutive patients with CRC who underwent primary tumor resection with lymph node dissection between January 2011 and November 2018. This study included 88 patients with node-positive stage IV CRC and synchronous or metachronous distant metastases. We retrospectively investigated the association between cancer histology in the mLNs based on our classification and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with node-positive stage IV CRC. Results: Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that CSS was better in patients with CRC and all the mLNs showing tubular-type carcinoma. In contrast, patients with at least some mLNs showing poorly differentiated-type carcinoma had poor prognosis. Multivariate analysis showed that "all mLNs showing tubular-type carcinoma" was an independent good prognostic factor for CSS in patients with node-positive stage IV CRC. In addition, "at least some mLNs showing poorly differentiated-type carcinoma" was an independent poor prognostic factor for CSS in patients with node-positive stage IV disease.
