Abstract

To design a mechanically stable and superhydrophobic coating, a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-containing poly(perfluoropolyether)methacrylate (PFPEM) hybrid copolymer (PFPEM–POSS) was synthesized via a free-radical solution polymerization with PFPEM, 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl acrylate, methyl (meth)acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, hydroxypropyl acrylate, methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane, and methacrylisobutyl POSS; and azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. Hydrophobic coatings were formed on substrates by a facile one-step dip-coating method in a solution mixture of diethylene glycol dimethyl ether with the PFPEM–POSS hybrid copolymer. The chemical structure of the PFPEM–POSS copolymer and the surface morphology and performance of the PFPEM–POSS coatings were investigated. The results indicate that, under POSS aggregation via the fluorophilic/oleophilic co-monomer phase separation and owing to the low-surface-energy poly(perfluoropolyether)methacrylate incorporated into the copolymer, PFPEM–POSS exhibited a hierarchical micro-nano roughness in atomic force microscopy observations and provided the treated substrates with excellent hydrophobicity and abrasion resistance. As a result, the water contact angle reached 152.3° on the treated glass.

129. Application of Machine Learning Algorithms to the Study of Noise Artifacts in Gravitational-Wave Data

Abstract

The sensitivity of searches for astrophysical transients in data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitationalwave Observatory (LIGO) is generally limited by the presence of transient, non-Gaussian noise artifacts, which occur at a high-enough rate such that accidental coincidence across multiple detectors is non-negligible. Furthermore, non-Gaussian noise artifacts typically dominate over the background contributed from stationary noise. These "glitches" can easily be confused for transient gravitational-wave signals, and their robust identification and removal will help any search for astrophysical gravitational-waves. We apply Machine Learning Algorithms (MLAs) to the problem, using data from auxiliary channels within the LIGO detectors that monitor degrees of freedom unaffected by astrophysical signals. Terrestrial noise sources may manifest characteristic disturbances in these auxiliary channels, inducing non-trivial correlations with glitches in the gravitational-wave data. The number of auxiliary-channel parameters describing these disturbances may also be extremely large; high dimensionality is an area where MLAs are particularly well-suited. We demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of three very different MLAs: Artificial Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines, and Random Forests. These classifiers identify and remove a substantial fraction of the glitches present in two very different data sets: four weeks of LIGO's fourth science run and one week of LIGO's sixth science run. We observe that all three algorithms agree on which events are glitches to within 10% for the sixth science run data, and support this by showing that the different optimization criteria used by each classifier generate the same decision surface, based on a likelihood-ratio statistic. Furthermore, we find that all classifiers obtain similar limiting performance, suggesting that most of the useful information currently contained in the auxiliary channel parameters we extract is already being used. Future performance gains are thus likely to involve additional sources of information, rather than improvements in the MLAs themselves.

Abstract

Aiming at the problem of array position error calibration under near-field source conditions, a method based on fourth-order cumulant is proposed. Decoupling of azimuth, range and array position error is achieved by vector reconstruction, the rotation invariance of the fourth-order cumulant constructed and transformation of array steering vectors. At the same time, the position error is calibrated in a time-sharing manner by using multiple signal sources at different positions. But this method does not require a precisely known auxiliary source. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has less computational complexity, more accurate azimuth and range parameters estimation, and higher accuracy of position error calibration.

Abstract

Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials have attracted increasing research attention due to their broad application potential. The major design strategy for AIE luminogens (AIEgens) is incorporating molecular rotors, such as tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and triphenylamine (TPA), into conjugated skeletons to decrease intermolecular π–π interactions. Therefore, the diversity of AIEgens is usually determined by the types of molecular rotors. Herein, we report a new molecular rotor, diphenylphosphine (DPP), that can be incorporated facilely into a typical aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) luminophore to facilitate ACQ-to-AIE transformation. Due to the large steric hindrance and sp3 hybrid conformation of diphenylphosphine, the intermolecular π–π interaction is limited to a certain extent; the photoluminescence quantum yields of our AIEgens range from 10.3% to 47.0%. Furthermore, the luminescent color of the molecules can be tuned from blue to orange by adjusting the electron-donating/withdrawing strength of the substituent groups. At the same time, the AIEgens also exhibit novel pressure-induced emission enhancement (PIEE) properties. The rapid intersystem crossing (ISC) process was explored as the DPP-based AIE mechanism by ultrafast IR spectroscopy. To our best knowledge, this is the first systematic study of a general strategy to realize ACQ-to-AIE transformation by using the DPP group, which greatly increases the diversity of AIEgens as well as their potential applications. Abstract

Gravitational wave (GW) astronomy based on the GW detection is a rising interdisciplinary field, and a new window for humanity to observe the universe, followed after the traditional astronomy with the electromagnetic waves as the detection means, it has a quite important significance for studying the origin and evolution of the universe, and for extending the astronomical research field. The appearance of laser interferometer GW detector has opened a new era of GW detection, and the data processing and analysis of GWs have already been developed quickly around the world, to provide a sharp weapon for the GW astronomy. This paper introduces systematically the tool software that commonly used for the data analysis of GWs, and discusses in detail the basic methods used in the data analysis of GWs, such as the time-frequency analysis, composite analysis, pulsar timing analysis, matched filter, template, χ 2 test, and Monte-Carlo simulation, etc.
