In recent years, stimulation‐responsive hydrogels have emerged as a promising vehicle for wound management and drug delivery. However, due to their limited therapeutic effect, there is an urgent need to develop new hydrogel systems that can achieve effective wound treatment. MXenes have been widely used in diagnostic, antimicrobial, and electrochemical sensing applications, and are increasingly being investigated for their potential in wound therapy. In this review, we present a comprehensive overview of responsive MXene‐based hydrogels systems for wound repair, including their synthesis methods, structures, surface modification strategies, biomedical applications, cytotoxicity, and biocompatibility. We also discuss the opportunities and challenges that responsive MXene‐based hydrogels are likely to face in the future. Overall, this review will be a useful resource for researchers and practitioners working on the development and application of responsive MXene‐based hydrogels for wound treatment. Introduction: Distinguishing between malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and benign pleural effusion (BPE) poses a challenge in clinical practice. We aimed to construct and validate a combined model integrating radiomic features and clinical factors using computerized tomography (CT) images to differentiate between MPE and BPE. Methods: A retrospective inclusion of 315 patients with pleural effusion (PE) was conducted in this study (training cohort: n = 220; test cohort: n = 95). Radiomic features were extracted from CT images, and the dimensionality reduction and selection processes were carried out to obtain the optimal radiomic features. Logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest were employed to construct radiomic models. LR analyses were utilized to identify independent clinical risk factors to develop a clinical model. The combined model was created by integrating the optimal radiomic features with the independent clinical predictive factors. The discriminative ability of each model was assessed by receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Out of the total 1,834 radiomic features extracted, 15 optimal radiomic features explicitly related to MPE were picked to develop the radiomic model. Among the radiomic models, the SVM model demonstrated the highest predictive performance [area under the curve (AUC), training cohort: 0.876, test cohort: 0.774]. Six clinically independent predictive factors, including age, effusion laterality, procalcitonin, carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE), were selected for constructing the clinical model. The combined model (AUC: 0.932, 0.870) exhibited superior discriminative performance in the training and test cohorts compared to the clinical model (AUC: 0.850, 0.820) and the radiomic model (AUC: 0.876, 0.774). The calibration curves and DCA further confirmed the practicality of the combined model. Conclusion: This study presented the development and validation of a combined model for distinguishing MPE and BPE. This study delved into the larval development and the morphological and anatomical transformations that occur in the galls of chestnut trees (Castanea mollissima BL.) and are induced by the chestnut gall wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu (GWDK) across various stages: initial, growth, differentiation, maturity, and lignification. Chestnut galls in the five development stages were collected. Gall structural characteristics were observed with an anatomical stereomicroscope, and anatomical changes in galls were analyzed with staining and scanning electron microscope techniques. The chestnut gall wasp laid its eggs on young leaves and buds. Chestnut gall wasp parasitism caused plant tissues to form a gall chamber, with parenchyma, protective, and epidermal layers. The development of the gall structure caused by the infestation of the GWDK gall led to the weakening of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) elimination ability of the host. The accumulation of ROS led to cell wall peroxidation, resulting in structural damage and diminished host resistance, and the parenchyma layer exhibited significant nutrient supply and thickening. The thickness of the protective and epidermal layers varied notably across different growth stages. The oviposition of the chestnut gall wasp induced modifications in the original plant tissues, with gall formation being most favorable in young tissues, correlating with the maturity level of the host plant tissues. Variances in the internal structures of the galls primarily stemmed from nutrient supplementation, while those in the external structure were attributed to defensive characteristics. This research contributes a foundational understanding of gall development induced by the chestnut gall wasp in Chinese chestnut, offering valuable insights into the intricate interplay between insect infestation and plant physiology. Pecan forests (Carya illinoinensis) are significant contributors to both food and oil production, and thrive in diverse soil environments, including coastal regions. However, the interplay between soil microbes and pecan forest health in coastal environments remains understudied. Therefore, we investigated soil bacterial and fungal diversity in coastal (Dafeng, DF) and inland (Guomei, GM) pecan plantations using high-throughput sequencing. The results revealed a higher microbial diversity in the DF plantation than in the GM plantation, significantly influenced by pH and edaphic factors. The dominant bacterial phyla were Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota and Bacteroidota in the DF plantation, and Acidobacteriota, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobiota in the GM plantation. Bacillus, Nitrospira and UTCFX1 were significantly more abundant bacterial genera in DF soil, whereas Candidatus Udaeobacter, HSB_OF53-F07 and ADurbBin063-1 were more prevalent in GM soil. Basidiomycota dominated fungal sequences in the GM plantation, with a higher relative abundance of Ascomycota in the DF plantation. Significant differences in fungal genus composition were observed between plantations, with Scleroderma, Hebeloma, and Naucoria being more abundant in DF soil, and Clavulina, Russula, and Inocybe in GM soil. A functional analysis revealed greater carbohydrate metabolism potential in GM plantation bacteria and a higher ectomycorrhizal fungi abundance in DF soil. Significantly positive correlations were detected between certain bacterial and fungal genera and pH and total soluble salt content, suggesting their role in pecan adaptation to coastal environments and saline–alkali stress mitigation. These findings enhance our understanding of soil microbiomes in coastal pecan plantations, and are anticipated to foster ecologically sustainable agroforestry practices and contribute to coastal marshland ecosystem management. Merging process variants models can quickly construct a single process model to meet a new demand.The issue of how to merge the process variants models is of great practical value.Therefore,a process variants merging method using group-fair control flow structure is proposed.Firstly,process variants are segmented into individual variant using group-fairness in Petri nets.Then,the control flow paths of the variant fragments are extracted and their corresponding matrix representation are constructed,then the variants are merged into a single flow model.Finally,it is proved that the merged process model captures all the behaviors of the input process models,and it can detect the unexpected behaviors of the merged model compared to the former input models.

Five kinds of rubber latex foams with different natural rubber latex content were studied by the accelerated hot air aging method, and the aging degree and aging rate were characterized by aging kinetic model and several performance parameters, such as yellowness index, whiteness index, cross-linking density.In addition, the hot air aging beha-viors of rubber latex foams were explored.The results showed that yellowness index increased and whiteness index decreased with the increase in the aging time during the aging process.The cross-linking density increased at a faster rate in the early and middle stages of the aging process, and increased at a relatively slower rate in the later stage of the aging process.The analysis of kinetic model of the rubber latex foams indicated that the aging reaction rate of the rubber latex foams with natural rubber latex mass fraction of 80% was the largest during the aging process, and the aging reaction rates of the rubber latex foams with natural rubber latex mass fraction of 50%, 40% and 0 were relatively close, which demonstrated that the rubber latex foams with low natural rubber latex content had better hot air aging performance.

Abstract Background Oxaliplatin is one of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of various cancers, including gastric cancer. It has, however, a narrow therapeutic index due to its toxicity and the occurrence of drug resistance. Hence, it is of great significance to develop novel therapies to potentiate the anti-tumor effect and reduce the toxicity of oxaliplatin. In our previous study, we demonstrated that ethaselen (BBSKE), an inhibitor of thioredoxin reductase, effectively inhibited the growth of gastric cancer cells and promoted apoptosis in vitro. In the present study, we investigated whether BBSKE can potentiate the anti-tumor effect of oxaliplatin in gastric cancer in vivo and vitro. Methods Cellular apoptosis and ROS levels were analyzed by flow cytometry. Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) activity in gastric cancer cells, organoid and tumor tissues was determined by using the endpoint insulin reduction assay. Western blot was used to analyze the expressions of the indicated proteins. Nude mice xenograft models were used to test the effects of BBSKE and oxaliplatin combinations on gastric cancer cell growth in vivo. In addition, we also used the combined treatment of BBSKE and oxaliplatin in three cases of gastric cancer Patient-Derived organoid (GC-PDO) to detect the anti-tumor effect. Results We found that BBSKE significantly enhanced oxaliplatin-induced growth inhibition in gastric cancer cells by inhibiting TrxR1 activity. Because of the inhibition of TrxR1 activity, BBSKE synergized with oxaliplatin to enhance the production of ROS and activate p38 and JNK signaling pathways which eventually induced apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. In vivo, we also found that BBSKE synergized with oxaliplatin to suppress the gastric cancer tumor growth in xenograft nude mice model, accompanied by the reduced TrxR1 activity. Remarkably, we found that BBSKE attenuated body weight loss evoked by oxaliplatin treatment. We also used three cases of GC-PDO and found that the combined treatment of BBSKE and oxaliplatin dramatically inhibited the growth and viability of GC-PDO with increased ROS level, decreased TrxR1 activity and enhanced apoptosis. Conclusions This study elucidates the underlying mechanisms of synergistic effect of BBSKE and oxaliplatin, and suggests that the combined treatment has potential value in gastric cancer therapy.

ObjectiveThere were few studies that had attempted to predict facial emotion recognition (FER) ability at the individual level in schizophrenia patients. In this study, we developed a model for the prediction of FER ability in Chinese Han patients with the first-episode schizophrenia (FSZ).Materials and MethodsA total of 28 patients with FSZ and 33 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. All subjects underwent resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI). The amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method was selected to analyze voxel-level spontaneous neuronal activity. The visual search experiments were selected to evaluate the FER, while the support vector regression (SVR) model was selected to develop a model based on individual rs-fMRI brain scan.ResultsGroup difference in FER ability showed statistical significance (P < 0.05). In FSZ patients, increased mALFF value were observed in the limbic lobe and frontal lobe, while decreased mALFF value were observed in the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, and occipital lobe (P < 0.05, AlphaSim correction). SVR analysis showed that abnormal spontaneous activity in multiple brain regions, especially in the right posterior cingulate, right precuneus, and left calcarine could effectively predict fearful FER accuracy (r = 0.64, P = 0.011) in patients.ConclusionOur study provides an evidence that abnormal spontaneous activity in specific brain regions may serve as a predictive biomarker for fearful FER ability in schizophrenia.

Abstract Background Laparoscopic surgery has been widely accepted to treat early-stage gastric cancer. However, it is still controversial to perform laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy for locally advanced gastric cancer. We performed the present study to compare the long-term outcomes of patients after laparoscopic or open gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy. Methods The clinicopathological data of 182 gastric cancer patients receiving gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy between January 2011 and December 2015 at Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital were retrospectively retrieved. The overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) of these 182 patients were compared. Then, the prognostic significance of positive lymph node ratio (LNR) was assessed. Results As a whole, OS (P = 0.789) and DFS (P = 0.672) of patients receiving laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy were not significantly different from those of patients receiving open surgery. For stage I patients, laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy was not significantly different from open surgery in terms of OS (P = 0.573) and DFS (P = 0.157). Similarly, for stage II patients, laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy was not significantly different from open surgery in terms of OS (P = 0.567) and DFS (P = 0.830). For stage III patients, laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy was not significantly different from open surgery in terms of OS (P = 0.773) and DFS (P = 0.404). Laparoscopic or open gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy was not proven by Cox regression analysis to be an independent prognostic factor for OS and DFS. High LNR was significantly associated with worse OS (P < 0.001) and DFS (P < 0.001). Surgical type did not significantly affect prognosis of patients with low LNR or survival of patients with high LNR. Conclusions For patients with gastric cancer, laparoscopic gastrectomy plus D2 lymphadenectomy was not inferior to open surgery in terms of long-term outcomes. LNR is a useful prognostic marker for GC patients.

A low-cost, non-hazardous personal-power system based on an aqueous all-iron electrochemical cell is demonstrated. The system is intended to be assembled and operated by developing-world households that lack sufficient access to electricity, thereby enabling LED lighting or mobile phone charging on demand. Lab-scale hardware is used to assess the performance of individual cell components. It is found that coffee filter paper is an effective low-cost separator. Carbon felt is a low-cost electrode material, and its performance and wetting by the electrolyte solution is greatly improved by pre-treatment with sulfuric acid. The carbon felt does not degrade after a week of daily use. By using these components, performance of the system is significantly improved over the previous baseline, with power density more than doubling to 40 mW cm−2, and iron utilization improving from 78% to 88%. The operating cost is estimated to be less than US$0.03 per mobile phone charge. Based on the lab-scale results, a stand-alone prototype consumer product is designed, fabricated, and tested. It successfully provides 2.5 h of LED illumination while consuming 200 mL of electrolyte solution via gravity feed. We anticipate these results will enable deployment of this innovative system to energy-impoverished individuals in the developing world.

Skin color shift in side view of UV2A mode is a challenging problem since the dark line is wider than other VA mode. In this paper, several factors such as various methods for 8 domain driving, resistant ratio and area ratio of sub to main pixel were fully discussed. Finally, novel pixel design was proposed in this paper with CR (80/20) =50% (θ=30°, φ=0°) which is 25% higher than traditional UV2A mode. In this study, nano- SiO2 was synthesized using the sol-gel method to modify the properties of fly ash-slag geopolymers (FASGs). FASGs with six contents of sol-type nano- SiO2 (0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5%) and two alkali dosages (5% and 7% of Na2O) were prepared. The influences of sol-type nano- SiO2 and alkali content on the compressive strength, flexural strength, drying shrinkage, and microstructure of FASG were studied. The results demonstrated that the early-age compressive and flexure strength of FASG can be enhanced by sol-type nano- SiO2 due to the improved microstructure and the reaction products. The improvement effect of sol-type nano- SiO2 on mechanical properties was more significant for FASGs with lower alkali dosages. The optimized content of sol-type nano- SiO2 in FASG was 0.2% for the mechanical properties. The addition of the sol-type nano- SiO2 can mitigate the drying shrinkage of the FASG when the content is lower than 0.4%. The sol-type nano- SiO2 can promote the formation of reaction products in FASG and result in a denser microstructure of FASG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is instrumental in the noninvasive evaluation of tumor tissues in patients subjected to chemotherapy, thereby yielding essential diagnostic data crucial for the prognosis of tumors and the formulation of therapeutic strategies. Currently, commercially available MRI contrast agents (CAs) predominantly consist of mononuclear gadolinium-(III) complexes. Because there is only one Gd-(III) atom per molecule, these CAs often require administration in high doses to achieve the desired contrast quality, which inevitably leads to some adverse events. Herein, we develop a six-nuclei, apoptosis-targeting T1 CA, Gd6–ZnDPA nanoprobe, which consists of a hexanuclear gadolinium nanocluster (Gd6) with an apoptosis-targeting group (ZnDPA). The amplification of Gd-(III) by the hexanuclear structure generates its high longitudinal relaxivity (44.67 mM–1 s–1, 1T) and low r1/r2 ratio (0.68, 1T). Based on the Solomon–Bloembergen–Morgan (SBM) theory, this notable improvement is primarily ascribed to a long correlation tumbling time (τR). More importantly, the Gd6–ZnDPA nanoprobe shows excellent tumor apoptosis properties with an enhanced MR signal ratio (∼74%) and a long MRI imaging acquisition time window (∼48 h) in 4T1 tumor-bearing mice.
