This article focuses on the localized prostate cancer radical treatments. In brachytherapy, radioactive implants are placed in the prostate to deliver radiotherapy precisely. There are two general approaches: low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy, in which permanent seed implants are inserted, and high dose rate brachytherapy, in which a temporary implant is placed. Most centres in the Great Britain employ the LDR technique. The seeds decay slowly over a few weeks, and the patient does not constitute a risk to others during this time.
