In previous article (J Vion-Dury, M. Besson, D. Schon, et al., 2015), we examined the phenomenological content of Saussurian linguistics - precisely by arguing structural homology between, on the one hand, the Husserlian analysis of semiotic phenomenality as a stratification of verbal consciousness, and, on the other hand, a morphodynamic formalization of the Saussurian theory of the sign. To test this model, we decided to use the N400 component of evoked potentials. This component is evoked by definition only by a stimulus and, in particular, by a stimulus that raises or evokes an access to meaning. Because in general, the N400 is considered either as a marker of integration of meaning (in connection with the process of detecting the incongruity of the word with respect to the context), or as a lexical access marker (case of isolated words). We needed to find a linguistic stimulus that would generate an N400 as a witness to the "consciousness of availability". To do this, we designed a protocol called Extended and Fluent Word Spotting (WSp ++) so named because it crosses the protocols of "Wordspotting" and "syllabic flow".This is the protocol described in the current article., Dans de précédents travaux, synthétisés à l'occasion d'un récent article (J Vion-Dury, M Besson, D Schon, et al., 2015), nous avons examiné la teneur phénoménologique de la linguistique saussurienne − précisément en faisant valoir une homologie de structure entre, d'une part, l'analyse husserlienne de la phénoménalité sémiotique comme stratification de la conscience verbale, et, d'autre part, une formalisation morphodynamique de la théorie saussurienne du signe. Pour mettre à l'épreuve ce modèle, nous avons donc décidé d'utiliser la composante N400 des potentiels évoqués. Cette composante, n'est évoquée par définition que par un stimulus et, en particulier, par un stimulus qui relève ou évoque un accès au sens. Car d'une manière générale, la N400 est considérée soit comme marqueur d'intégration du sens (en lien avec les processus de détection de l'incongruité du mot par rapport au contexte), soit comme un marqueur d'accès lexical (cas des mots isolés). Il nous fallait donc trouver un stimulus linguistique qui permette de générer une N400 comme témoin de la conscience de disponibilité. Pour ce faire, nous avons conçu un protocole, dit de Extended and Fluent Word Spotting (WSp++ ) ainsi nommé parce qu'il croise les protocoles de " Wordspotting " et de " flux syllabiques ". C'est ce protocole que décrit l'article ci joint.

International audience; This article experiments with the possibility of linking a first-person musicological approach to a phenomenological thinking on the Cartesian cogito, all inscribed in a text whose style and structure oscillate, in an exemplary and performative way, between the literary novel and the philosophical discourse, all complemented by a counterpoint of illustrations which in itself attempts to lead the reader to the point of departure. This work puts Louis Couperin's prelude "in imitation of Mr Froberger" face to face with the videore videre of the second metaphysical meditation of Descartes, in a phenomenological position similar to that of Michel Henry. This text also proposes that musical as well as philosophical interpretations must be historically informed (according to the fashionable expression), but that the way of being historically informed must be thought in the first person. So, the Nagel's founding question "what does it mean to be a bat? must be transposed as follows: "what would it be like to be Louis Couperin facing his harpsichord, or Descartes next to his stove?"; Cet article expérimente la possibilité de lier une approche musicologique en première personne à une réflexion phénoménologique sur le cogito cartésien, le tout inscrit dans un texte dont le style et la structure oscillent, de manière exemplificatrice et performative, entre la nouvelle littéraire et le discours philosophique, le tout agrémenté d’un contrepoint d’illustrations qui en lui-même tente de conduire le lecteur vers le point de départ du propos. Il s’agit de mettre face à face le prélude de Louis Couperin « à l’imitation de Mr Froberger » et le videor videre de la seconde méditation métaphysique de Descartes, dans une position phénoménologique proche de celle de Michel Henry. International audience; We explored possibilities to increase motor imagery (MI) BCI performance by implementing Flow theory. According to this theory, by adapting the task difficulty to one's skills and making engaging content, one can reach a state of flow, i.e., to be fully immersed in a task, forgetting about the self and the environment, and thus reaching higher performance rates [1]. In this experiment, to evoke the state of flow, music was played in the background, the BCI task was playful (a video game), and the difficulty was adapted in real-time according to user performance (classifier output). Subjects reported to have been perturbed by the rhythm of the music which did not follow their imagined movement [2]. This inspired us to explore the benefits of a task-related (congruent) and synchronised audio feedback which would comply with the user's imagined movements. Congruent visual environment in MI BCI has been researched in virtual reality, giving a sense of body ownership illusion, and showed to be more robust and improve performance [3]. On the other hand, the effects of a congruent audio environment, have not yet been explicitly explored in BCI. We investigate the potential of an audio congruent to the task, tackling the sensori illusion of presence by providing realistic audio feedback using a synthesizer from [4]. We present preliminary results to show the benefits of a congruent, audio MI feedback of feet as opposed to no congruent feedback using abstract sound. We found a significant difference (p < 0.05) in classification accuracy when a binary classifier was trained offline separately on the "congruent" and "non-congruent" runs (respectively 66.1%, SD: 7.45 and 63.9% SD: 7.8, 10-fold cross-validation) [5].

Models of neurology that we would apply to psychiatry display several irremediable difficulties: firstly their reductionism and technical shortcomings and, secondly, their lack of meaning and the low importance they agree temporality. Thus we see that speculative bubbles are being developed, which do not change ultimately much to our knowledge and generate mountains of useless publications. Phenomenology seems the only way to take into account simultaneously the problem of meaning and temporality of subjects, all of which are part of the varied stories maze. However, bridges between phenomenology, psychotherapy and neuroscience can be proposed without models that are applied in neurology to psychiatry., Les modèles de la neurologie que l'on voudrait appliquer à la psychiatrie, butent sur plusieurs difficultés irrémédiables: d'une part leur réductionnisme et les insuffisances des techniques et, d' autre part, leur absence de sens et la faible importance qu'ils accordent à la temporalité. On voit ainsi des bulles spéculatives se développer qui ne changent en définitive pas grand chose à nos connaissances et génèrent des montagnes de publications inutiles. La phénoménologie nous semble seule à même de prendre en compte en même temps la problématique du sens et de la temporalité des sujets, qui tous s'inscrivent dans des lacis d'histoires variées. Pour autant, des ponts entre phénoménologie, psychothérapies et neurosciences peuvent être proposés, sans pour autant que soient appliqués les modèles de la neurologie à la psychiatrie.

Neurofeedback is increasingly used in the clinic, especially in psychiatry. Cognitive psychology, which seeks to explain its bases is largely founded on the cybernetic paradigm, and bases neurofeedback on the concept of both operant conditioning, and skill learning.In this article, we make an epistemological critique of the cognitivist approach of neurofeedback, and try to detect the drawbacks of this approach by helping us experience the practice of neurofeedback in a clinical setting. The notions of operant conditioning and learning seem to be of little use when patients change their strategy several times during the course of treatment. In addition, the presence of therapist is crucial from a patient's point of view.We propose that the phenomenological approach concerning this situation of man vis-a-vis the machine appears more adequate to understand the neurofeedback from the point of view of the conscience and the flesh. We discuss the importance of intersubjectivity in this therapeutic process that involves interactions between a brain and a computer., Le neurofeedback est de plus en plus utilisé en clinique, en particulier psychiatrique. La psychologie cognitive qui cherche à en expliquer les bases s'inspire largement du paradigme cybernétique, et fait reposer le neurofeedback sur le concept de conditionnement opérant, mais également d'apprentissage complexe.Dans cet article, nous faisons une critique épistémologique de l'approche cognitiviste du neurofeedback, et tentons d'en déceler les difficultés en nous aidant de l'expérience de la pratique du neurofeedback dans un cadre clinique. Les notions de conditionnement opérant et d'apprentissage semblent peu opératoire dès lors que les patients changent de stratégie plusieurs fois pendant la cure. Par ailleurs, la présence du personnel infirmier est déterminante du point de vue des patients. C'est par une approche phénoménologique concernant cette situation d'homme face à la machine que nous tentons d'aborder le neurofeedback du point de vue de la conscience et de la chair. Nous discutons l'importance de l'intersubjectivité dans ce processus thérapeutique qui fait intervenir les interactions entre un cerveau et un ordinateur.

International audience; In neurosciences, it is usual to speak of states of consciousness and to assign a neuronal origin. Moreover, the notion of consciousness is usually underpinned by an ontology (eg is conscious that can be reported verbally) and a monistic or dualistic epistemological position. In this paper we propose a model that: 1) replace the word "state" by Husserl's term "modalization", so in order to emphasize the flexible and labile nature of consciousness, 2) does not presuppose any ontology and no dualistic or monistic conception of mind, 3) does not pose the question of the origin of consciousness, 4) considers the modalizations of consciousness are dynamic forms that can be described by the attractors of a morphodynamic model, 5) describes the modalizations of consciousness as the complex combination of manners (intellection, emotions, memory ...), and 6) allows to consider the character of both intentional (Husserl) and impressional (Henry) of consciousness. This model also incorporates vigilance and attention, in the fine modulation changes in modalization of consciousness.We propose also to consider that many psychotherapies (hypnosis, neurofeedback, psychoanalysis, EMDR ...) involve psychological changes caused by induced modalizations of consciousness.

Regardless of the type of music being listened to, and whether the subjects are musicians or not, the following descriptive categories can be observed: a) The subjects very often associate complex and rich imaginary scenes with musical listening, b) they describe a modification of their perceived body and cephalic space, c) they experience subtle mood swings, d) they move with the music (the rhythms) and internalize it, e) they describe changes in the limits of the body space f) they fuse more or less strongly with the music ("I am music"), g) their ears are felt in a different way, h) they anticipate the music.More generally, the body experienced in musical listening is modified and resembles a homunculus as it can be described in the sensory projections of the somesthetic area, or the body diagram of the motor areas., Cet article décrit les vécus pré-réflexifs loirs de l'écoute musicale. International audience; Claude Bernard, and his master François Magendie, by the constitution of physiological science, has brought the establishment of a unifying representation system in the field of medicine. According to these representations, the diseases and the therapeutics would be considered by medical doctors as following the same laws of physiology. Physiology would be the condition of a real scientific medicine. How this positioning may be applied to psychiatry? To answer this question, this article proposes first of all to summarize the principal concepts structuring clinical physiology since Claude Bernard. These concepts are those of the "milieu intérieur", its stability and its regulation. The principles of this regulation system introduced by Claude Bernard lead us to consider him as the first modern systemic physiologist. Moreover these principles of regulation offer the possibility to understanding in an original way the processes of adaptation and acclimatization of an organism. This article then to analyze how these physiological concepts can be applied to psychiatry, including a discussion on the distinction of normal and pathological (by underlining that the difficulty in defining the disease is not specific to mental disorders), by providing a physiological perspective of the notion of syndrome for linking together in a practical way, the requirements of scientific medicine to that of rigorous clinical medicine.; Claude Bernard, et son maitre François Magendie, ont permis, par la constitution de la science physiologique, la mise en place d'un système de représentation unificatrice dans le champ de la médecine où la pathologie et la thérapeutique seraient considérées par les médecins comme suivant les mêmes lois de la physiologie. La physiologie serait ainsi la condition d'une véritable médecine scientifique. Comment ce positionnement peut il s'appliquer à la psychiatrie ? Afin de répondre à cette question, cet article se propose, tout d'abord de rappeler les concepts essentiels structurant la physiologie clinique depuis Claude Bernard. Ces concepts sont ceux de milieu intérieur, de sa constance et de sa régulation. Les principes de ce système de régulation introduis par Claude Bernard font de lui un précurseur de la physiologie systémique moderne et permettent de comprendre de manière originale les processus d'adaptation et d'acclimatation d'un organisme. Cet article se propose ensuite d'analyser comment ces concepts peuvent s'appliquer à la psychiatrie et notamment à la distinction du normal et du pathologique (et de souligner que la difficulté dans la définition de la maladie n'est pas propre aux troubles mentaux), en offrant une perspective physiologique à la notion de syndrome, concept permettant de lier ensemble, et de manière pratique, les exigences d'une médecine scientifique à celle d'une médecine clinique rigoureuse.

International audience; Objectives: Cluster headache (CH) is a rare disease (1 to 3 / 1000), predominant in men (sex ratio: 4 men / 1 woman) and characterized by frequent very painful paroxystic attacks occurring sometimes 8 times by day. CH is a disease without lesion and impairs the quality of life of patients. Attacks occur only on the same hemiface and can last from 15 minutes to 3 hours. The pain is particularly severe and a frequent and extreme psychiatric symptomatology is observed during the attacks. Treatments are rare and not always efficient: sumatriptan, oxygen, LSD, psilocybin. In this paper we try to answer to the question: "What does that make you to have a cluster headache attack ? ", using elicitation interview developed by Vermersch. Patients and methods: Ten patients have been interviewed using elicitation interview (EI) (40-50 mn for one interview). All these patients (7 men and 3 women) T suffer from chronic or episodic CH, with a mean age of 43 years. The patients come from the Lariboisiere hospital (Paris), and more precisely from the center of headache urgency. EI allows describing the pre-reflexive consciousness contents. The method is described in Balzani and coll., and in Petitmengin and coll (see bibliography). Data analysis were performed using Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Results: From the EI, we have distinguished three phenomenological axes, following Heidegger’s philosophy: 1) An alteration of being-to-the-world with a strong unbearable feeling of imprisonment, and physical restriction. At the same time the patients present a stereotypical and automatic behavior with few motor schemes and escaping strategies. When pain arises, they want to leave and to go very far. Aggressive behavior frequenly occur. Sometimes, the patients are not able to perform the sumatripan injection, due to a motor inhibition. Some patients try to do autohypnosis or other methods to resist to the pain. 2) An alteration of being-to-the self, going from the corporal distortion to the body dissolution. At the onset of symptoms, the patient does the experience of physical deformation, particularly of the face, with strong vegetative symptoms. The patient is not able to control corporeal manifestations: tears, mad thinks, incoherent projects in order to stop the crisis. Some patients want to remove the part of their body where the pain is the most intense (eye, for example). There is a losing of the body limits and a loss of the time orientation. In many cases the pain is unbearable and patients want to commit suicide. At the extreme, the sensation of self seems destroyed, and some patients evoke an experience similar than Near Death Experiences, or describe an experience of swaying in emptiness or imminent death. 3) An alteration of being-to-the-other, going from the imperative solitude to the acceptance for a presence without words. Solitude is the most experience for the patients. They cannot accept anybody. Another person is unbearable, because asking questions about the crisis. In the same time, the patient is scared of this solitude since he is not able to speak about his painful experience. In summary, the structure of the self is altered, and thinking is completely disturbed. The experience of time and space is modified and apragmatism is a consequence of this intense pain. During the crisis, pain is central and the patient lives a kind of dissolution, near death: a self-dismantling.Conclusion: The EI have allowed us to describe precisely the painful experience of subjects with a cluster headache. This experience is very rich and very intense. EI, as a phenomenological method, is a very useful method to describe more precisely the symptomatology of a disease, because it pays attention to the effective experience of the pathological flesh, as compared to the pathological body.; L’Algie Vasculaire de la Face (AVF) se manifeste par des accès douloureux paroxystiques fréquents et invalidants. L’intensité de la douleur est exceptionnellement sévère. Dans l’AVF, des manifestations psychiques ou comportementales sont retrouvées en cours de crise, avec une sémiologie pour le moins singulière, voire extrême. Ce travail phénoménologique veut tenter de répondre à la question : « Qu’est-ce que cela vous fait d’avoir une crise d’AVF ? » en utilisant la méthode dite d’entretien d’explicitation des vécus conscients. Trois axes phénoménologiques se différencient : (1) une altération de l’Être-au-monde attestée par une impression de restriction physique et d’enfermement insupportable, imposé, sans échappatoire ; (2) une altération de l’Être-à-soi qui va de la déformation à la dissolution ; (3) et une altération de l’Être-à-l’autre allant de la solitude impérative à la seule acceptation d’une présence sans mots.

National audience; Résumé Cette étude vise à éprouver l'efficacité d'une thérapie par GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) biofeedback chez des patients souffrant d'épilepsie du lobe temporal (ELT) pharmacorésistante pour qui le stress est un facteur déclencheur de crises. Elle a montré son intérêt dans la réduction des crises et dans l'amélioration de certaines variables psychoaffectives. Les perspectives psychologiques et physiologiques liées à cette thérapie sont discutées. Introduction De nombreux patients souffrant d'ELT pharmacorésistante rapportent l'existence de facteurs déclencheurs de crises (stress, manque de sommeil, etc.) et développer des techniques pour en contrôler l'apparition. Pouvoir agir directement sur la capacité de prédiction et sur le contrôle des crises épileptiques présente un fort intérêt pour la prise en charge clinique. Les approches par rétrocontrôle biologique, appelées biofeedback, ont démontré leur efficacité dans le contrôle des crises. Le GSR biofeedback vise à augmenter les niveaux de l'excitation sympathique périphérique afin de réduire l'excitabilité corticale. Une telle excitation autonome peut également être associée à une augmentation du stress et de l'anxiété. Cette étude visait donc à vérifier que les patients atteints d'ELT dont les crises sont déclenchées par le stress ne subissent pas d'aggravations en termes de stress, d'anxiété, et de réponse émotionnelle négative à ce traitement. Matériel et méthode Quinze patients avec ELT pharmacorésistante sensibles au stress ont suivi 12 séances de biofeedback. Une évaluation cognitive des biais attentionnels vers les stimuli émotionnels négatifs ainsi qu'une évaluation psychoaffective (BDI, STAI-A, PANAS et QOLIE-89) ont été pratiquées avant et après la thérapie. Résultats et discussion Les patients n'ont pas présenté d'aggravation sur les biais attentionnels (p> .05). Une amélioration significative a été trouvée pour l'inventaire d'anxiété état (p= .020), l'inventaire de dépression (p< .001), la perception des affects négatifs (p= .003) et la qualité de vie (p= .018). Une réduction moyenne de -48,61% (SD = 27,79) (p= 0,005) ainsi qu'une corrélation entre la variation moyenne du GSR pendant le traitement biofeedback et la réduction de la fréquence des crises (r (15) = 0,62, p= .042) ont été observées. Ainsi, le biofeedback utilisé dans la présente étude était non seulement bien toléré, mais également très bénéfique pour les patients. En outre, cette technique présente l'avantage d'augmenter rapidement le sentiment de contrôle et d'efficacité personnelle, dans la mesure où l'ajustement des stratégies se fait en cours de production et évite l'apprentissage de stratégies inefficaces. Couplé à des méthodes de détection effectives des crises par voie physiologique ce type de thérapie représente une perspective prometteuse comme stratégie thérapeutique complémentaire pour les épilepsies pharmacorésistantes.

This poster paper describes the objectives, approach and use cases of the EC FP7 Integrated Project PERICLES. The project began on 1st February 2013 and runs for four years. The aim is to research and prototype solutions for digital preservation in continually evolving environments including changes in context, semantics and practices. The project addresses use cases focusing on digital art, media and science.

International audience; P50 amplitude changes in dual click conditioning–testing procedure might be a neurophysiological marker of deficient sensory gating in schizophrenia. However, the relationship between abnormalities in the neurophysiological and phenomenological dimensions of sensory gating in schizophrenia remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to determine if patients with low P50-suppression (below 50%) report more per- ceptual anomalies. Methods: Three groups were compared: twenty-nine schizophrenia patients with high P50-suppression (above 50% amplitude suppression), twenty-three schizophrenia patients with low P50-suppression (below 50%) and twenty-six healthy subjects. The Sensory Gating Inventory (SGI), a four-factor self-report questionnaire, was used to measure perceptual anomalies related to sensory gating. A comparison of demographic and clinical data was also carried out. Results: Patients with low P50-suppression presented: i) significantly higher scores on the SGI (for the overall SGI score and for each of the 4 factors) and ii) significantly larger P50 amplitude at the second click, than both patients with high P50-suppression and healthy subjects. There were no group differences in the most of demo- graphic and clinical data. Discussion: The finding offers support for conceptual models wherein abnormal neurophysiologic responses to repetitive stimuli give rise to clinically relevant perceptions of being inundated and overwhelmed by external sensory stimuli. Further studies are needed to explore the contributions of clinical symptoms, medication and neuropsychological functions to the relationship between P50-suppression and the SGI, and the role of sensory “gating in” versus “gating out”.

International audience; The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of second-generation antipsychotics (clozapine or another second-generation antipsychotic) on perceptual abnormalities related to sensory gating deficit. Although clozapine is known to improve sensory gating assessed neuro- physiologically, we hypothesized that patients with schizophrenia treated with clozapine would report less perceptual abnormalities related to sen- sory gating deficit than patients treated with other second-generation anti- psychotics do. Forty patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia were investigated (10 patients treated with clozapine and 30 patients treated with another second-generation antipsychotic drug). Perceptual abnor- malities were assessed with the Sensory Gating Inventory. Sensory gating was assessed through electroencephalogram with the auditory event- related potential method by measuring P50 amplitude changes in a dual click conditioning-testing procedure. Patients treated with clozapine pres- ent normal sensory gating and report less perceptual abnormalities related to sensory gating than patients treated with other second-generation anti- psychotics do. Although the cross-sectional design of this study is limited because causal inferences cannot be clearly concluded, the present study suggests clinical and neurophysiological advantages of clozapine com- pared with other second-generation antipsychotics and provides a basis for future investigations on the effect of this treatment on perceptual abnor- malities related to sensory gating deficit in patients with schizophrenia.

National audience; L’œuvre musicale elle-même ne pourrait exister sans « mémoires » : sans la mémoire du compositeur qui doit choisir et organiser le matériau musical ; sans la mémoire de l'interprète qui, entre autres, sur la base de ses acquis techniques mémorisés, doit permettre à l’œuvre d'exister ; et sans la mémoire de l'auditeur, qui, privé de toute capacité de connaissance et de reconnaissance, de mise en relation des événements musicaux et de ses souvenirs culturels et émotionnels, ne pourrait pas créer un espace de sens. Ce projet pluridisciplinaire est né au départ d'un besoin d'apporter un témoignage original dans les recherches actuelles-épistémologiques, cognitives, psychologiques, sémiotiques, neurologiques, musicologiques…-sur le rapport entre musique et mémoire. La rencontre entre différents points de vue, même parfois éloignés, ou parfois touchant des points similaires, a vivifié ce binôme « musique-mémoire » de la manière la plus ouverte possible. Les textes, issus de domaines et d'expériences variés, ouvrent à une rencontre fructueuse, à un contrepoint fleuri...

International audience; Il y a cinquante ans paraissait La perception de la musique, ouvrage majeur par lequel Robert Francès instituait une forme novatrice d’approche du fait musical. Son style, sa cohérence scientifique, joints à une assise culturelle et à des intuitions exceptionnelles, lui confèrent une place d’autorité inégalée. Cette oeuvre vaut toujours à Robert Francès un important capital de sympathie et de respect souvent résumé par le titre de « père de la psychologie de la musique française ». L’héritage de La perception de la musiquese doit d’être pensé, débattu et analysé, surtout lorsque cinquante années de recul nous le permettent. C’est là tout le projet de ce recueil. Il rassemble les analyses et les réflexions de ses héritiers les plus directs (ceux qui ont fréquenté le Laboratoire de psychologie de la culture que Robert Francès fonda en 1969 à l’Université Paris X - Nanterre), mais aussi celles de chercheurs éminents plus éloignés de lui par leurs origines disciplinaire, géographique ou générationnelle et qui ont lu, apprécié et mûrement intégré à leur pensée comme à leurs travaux La perception de la musique.Contributions de Mireille Besson, Emmanuel Bigand, Jean-Marc Chouvel, W. Ce rapport fait partie du Rapport de synthèse de l'Atelier de Réflexion Prospective ANR "PIRSTEC". Il synthétise les résultats des travaux de l'atelier n° 30, "Explicitation de l'expérience cognitive", portant sur les possibilités d'intégrer l'étude de l'expérience vécue dans les sciences et technologies cognitives.

International audience; In this paper we list the various criticisms that have been formulated against introspection, from Auguste Comte denying that consciousness can observe itself, to recent criticisms of the reliability of first person descriptions. We show that these criticisms rely on the one hand on poor knowledge of the introspective process, and on the other hand on a naïve conception of scientific objectivity. Two kinds of answers are offered: the first one is grounded on a refined description of the process of becoming aware of one's experience and describing it, the second one relies on a comparison with the methods of the experimental sciences. We conclude the article by providing a renewed definition of 'the truth' of a first person description.
