Abstract: International audience; Le texte analyse les processus sociaux à l’œuvre dans l’intégration de militants associatifs populaires au sein des administrations publiques au temps des gouvernements chavistes au Venezuela. Au cœur de ce processus, l’économie morale articulée autour de la notion de révolution, détermine les échanges politiques producteurs de l’action publique, que ce soit par la production de l’administration elle-même, ou par la construction du rôle public de l’administration.L’analyse des échanges politiques articulée à la notion d’économie morale nous permet de comprendre comment l’intégration de militants associatifs populaires au sein des administrations publiques retravaille le rapport à la fois moral et pratique des classes populaires à l’État et au politique, tout en reproduisant la conditionnalité de leur accès à l’action publique.

Abstract: International audience; At the end of the Second World War, many Algerians came to live in France, taking advantage of strong labour market demand but also (from 1946) of their newly acquired freedom of movement as citizens of the French Union. This migration worried the French authorities, who introduced a series of targeted and often discriminatory measures. One such measure was the identification of these populations in the census, the main source of statistical data on the population of France. In derogation of the law and the egalitarian principles applied in metropolitan France, INSEE applied in 1954 and 1962 a name-based method to identify Algerians present in France, who were widely categorized as ‘French Muslims of Algeria’ despite having a legal status identical to that of French natives. Statistics were thus compiled based on ethnicity and religion, unlike today’s standard census-taking practices.; En période de forte demande de main d’œuvre, mais aussi et surtout parce que leur statut de citoyen de l’Union française leur donne la libre circulation depuis 1946, de nombreux Algériens se rendent en France après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Or cette migration nourrit les inquiétudes des pouvoirs publics et les expose à un ensemble de traitements spécifiques – le plus souvent discriminatoires – l’un d’entre eux étant leur identification dans le recensement, principale source de connaissance statistique des populations. En dérogation à la loi et au cadre égalitaire métropolitain, l’Insee met en œuvre, en 1954 et 1962, une méthode de reconnaissance onomastique pour distinguer les Algériens présents en France – dont la catégorie administrative la plus utilisée est « Français musulmans d’Algérie » – alors même que leur statut juridique est identique à celui des autres Français, et ainsi constituer des statistiques ethno-religieuses, en rupture avec les usages en matière de recensement.

Abstract: IntroductionVaccination is an effective and safe strategy to prevent Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and related harms. Despite various efforts by French authorities to improve HPV vaccine coverage (VC) these past few years, VC has remained far lower than in most other high-income countries. To improve it, we have coconstructed with stakeholders a school-based and primary care-based multicomponent intervention, and plan to evaluate its effectiveness, efficiency and implementation through a cluster randomised controlled trial (cRCT).Methods and analysisThis pragmatic cRCT uses an incomplete factorial design to evaluate three components applied alone or in combination: (1) adolescents and parents’ education and motivation at school, using eHealth tools and participatory learning; (2) general practitioners’ training on HPV using motivational interviewing techniques and provision of a decision aid tool; (3) free-of-charge access to vaccination at school. Eligible municipalities (clusters) are located in one of 14 preselected French school districts and must have only one secondary school which enrols at least 2/3 of inhabitants aged 11–14 years. A randomisation stratified by school district and deprivation index allocated 90 municipalities into 6 groups of 15. The expected overall sample size estimate is 41 940 adolescents aged 11–14 years. The primary endpoint is the HPV VC (≥1 dose) among adolescents aged 11–14 years, at 2 months, at the municipality level (data from routine databases). Secondary endpoints include: HPV VC (≥1 dose at 6 and 12 months; and 2 doses at 2, 6 and 12 months); differences in knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and intention among adolescents, parents and general practitioners between baseline and 2 months after intervention (self-administered questionnaires); incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. Implementation measures include dose, fidelity, adaptations, reached population and satisfaction (activity reports and self-administered questionnaires).Ethics and disseminationThis protocol was approved by the French Ethics Committee ‘CPP Sud-Est VI’ on 22 December 2020 (ID-RCB: 2020-A02031-38). No individual consent was required for this type of research; all participants were informed of their rights, in particular not to participate or to oppose the collection of data concerning them. Findings will be widely disseminated (conference presentations, reports, factsheets and academic publications).Trial registration numberNCT04945655.

Abstract: N°50/1 2021, paru en mars 2022; International audience; The recent availability of part of Michel Foucault's reading files on the National Library's digital site (Gallica), in particular his notes on the Analytic philosophy of language, allows us to approach in a new light the genesis of the method of Discourse Analysis set up in L'archéologie du savoir (1969) and its implementation in his first courses at the Collège de France. The present work, after presenting an overview of his files, which are particularly diverse in terms of the number of authors and themes, proposes a reading path within these files that situates the contours of the definition of Analysis. It then presents the way in which these files differentiate Analytic philosophy and Continental philosophy. It is then possible to delineate a close relationship between Foucault's interest in the analytical characterisation of Meaning as function and his Discourse functionalism complementary to Archaeological description.; La récente mise à disposition d’une partie des fiches de lectures de Michel Foucault sur le site numérique (Gallica) de la Bibliothèque Nationale, en particulier ses notes sur la philosophie analytique du langage, permet d’aborder sous un jour nouveau la genèse de la méthode d’analyse du discours présente dans L’archéologie du savoir (1969) et sa mise en œuvre dans ses premiers cours au Collège de France. Le présent travail, après avoir présenté une vue d’ensemble de ses fiches particulièrement diversifiées en nombre d’auteurs et de thèmes, propose un cheminement de lecture au sein de ces fiches situant les contours de ce qu’il en est de la définition de l’analyse. S’y adjoint ensuite une présentation de la manière dont ces fiches différencient la philosophie analytique et la philosophie continentale. Abstract: Although Leontief was and still is one of the most recognized names in economics, inextricably linked to the development of input-output techniques, he remained fiercely critical of other economists' works and of the state of economic science during his whole life. To understand his bitterness, we go back to the root of the split between Leontief and the rest of the economics profession, through an examination of the debates that took place in the late 1940s. From his input-output model, conceived as an operational theory of economic interdependencies, Leontief drew a specific approach to economic policy and planning which had a lot of success with government agencies, explaining how he could durably sustain his split from the profession.

Abstract: International audience; Lassa virus (LASV), an Old World arenavirus, is responsible for hemorrhagic fevers in western Africa. The privileged tropism of LASV for endothelial cells combined with a dysregulated inflammatory response are the main cause of the increase in vascular permeability observed during the disease. Mopeia virus (MOPV) is another arenavirus closely related to LASV but nonpathogenic for non-human primates (NHPs) and has never been described in humans. MOPV is more immunogenic than LASV in NHPs and in vitro in human immune cell models, with more intense type I IFN and adaptive cellular responses. Here, we compared the transcriptomic and proteomic responses of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to infection with the two viruses to further decipher the mechanisms involved in their differences in immunogenicity and pathogenicity. Both viruses replicated durably and efficiently in HUVECs, but the responses they induced were strikingly different. Modest activation was observed at an early stage of LASV infection and then rapidly shut down. By contrast, MOPV induced a late but more intense response, characterized by the expression of genes and proteins mainly associated with the type I IFN response and antigen processing/presentation. Such a response is consistent with the higher immunogenicity of MOPV relative to LASV, whereas the lack of an innate response induced in HUVECs by LASV is consistent with its uncontrolled systemic dissemination through the vascular endothelium.

Abstract: Recovery is a multidimensional construct that can be defined either from a clinical perspective or from a consumer-focused one, as a self-broadening process aimed at living a meaningful life beyond mental illness. We aimed to longitudinally examine the overlap and mutual distinctions between clinical and personal recovery. Of 1239 people with schizophrenia consecutively recruited from the FondaMental Advanced Centers of Expertise for SZ network, the 507 present at one-year did not differ from those lost to follow-up. Clinical recovery was defined as the combination of clinical remission and functional remission. Personal recovery was defined as being in the rebuilding or in the growth stage of the Stages of Recovery Instrument (STORI). Full recovery was defined as the combination of clinical recovery and personal recovery. First, we examined the factors at baseline associated with each aspect of recovery. Then, we conducted multivariable models on the correlates of stable clinical recovery, stable personal recovery, and stable full recovery after one year. At baseline, clinical recovery and personal recovery were characterized by distinct patterns of outcome (i.e. better objective outcomes but no difference in subjective outcomes for clinical recovery, the opposite pattern for personal recovery, and better overall outcomes for full recovery). We found that clinical recovery and personal recovery predicted each other over time (baseline personal recovery for stable clinical recovery at one year; P = .026, OR = 4.94 [1.30–23.0]; baseline clinical recovery for stable personal recovery at one year; P = .016, OR = 3.64 [1.31–11.2]). In short, given the interaction but also the degree of difference between clinical recovery and personal recovery, psychosocial treatment should target, beyond clinical recovery, subjective aspects such as personal recovery and depression to reach full recovery.

Abstract: First published: 18 May 2021; International audience; The “turn-taking” system, a notion referring to the dynamics of verbal exchanges in face-to-face interaction, is often presented as the hallmark of human language (Levinson, 2016). However, recent works have investigated turn-taking mechanisms in several nonhuman taxa, thus referring to the moment-by-moment coordinated alternation of actions or vocalizations, for instance in primates or birds. These findings have been interpreted as evidence of elementary forms of sequence organization in the animal world, and therefore as evidences of an evolutionary pathway, leading from very rough forms of signal alternation, to the complex multimodal and conversational turn-taking system used by humans. This article first reviews and discusses these findings. It then makes the case for going beyond the study of uniquely intra-specific forms of communication and interaction. It argues that considering interspecies interaction is of interest for social sciences in general, and linguistics scholarship in particular, at least in two respects. First, on an empirical level, to investigate a widespread phenomenon, namely ordinary human-animal interactions, as it occurs mostly in domestic settings—a topic that has been relatively neglected in the study of social interaction so far (for a range of reasons that we shall touch on). Secondly, on a more speculative level, it assumes that ordinary interspecies interactions, especially as they unfold with domestic pets or wild animals in natural settings (vs. in experimental settings), are a valuable locus to explore rudimentary forms of sequence organization, that are neither governed by linguistic and cultural norms, nor entirely the product of stereotypical species-related behavioral patterns. We posit that fundamental principles of sociality are to be found in the contextual adjustments of multimodal actions and in the emergence of meaning in interspecies interactions.

Abstract: In France, two therapeutic strategies can be offered after fingolimod (FNG) withdrawal to highly active relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients: natalizumab (NTZ) or anti-CD20. We compared the effectiveness of these two strategies as a switch for FNG within the OFSEP database. The primary endpoint was the time to first relapse. Other outcomes were the relapse rates over 3-month periods, time to worsening the EDSS score, proportion of patients with worsened 24-month MRI, time to treatment discontinuation, and incidence rates of serious adverse events. The dynamics of event rates over time were modeled using multidimensional penalized splines, allowing the possibility to model the effects of covariates in a flexible way, considering non-linearity and interactions. A total of 740 patients were included (337 under anti-CD20 and 403 under NTZ). There was no difference between the two treatments regarding the dynamic of the first occurrence of relapse, with a monthly probability of 5.0% at initiation and 1.0% after 6 months. The rate of EDSS worsening increased in both groups until 6 months and then decreased. No difference in the proportion of patients with new T2 lesions at 24 months was observed. After 18 months of follow-up, a greater risk of NTZ discontinuation was found compared to anti-CD20. This study showed no difference between NTZ and anti-CD20 after the FNG switch regarding the clinical and radiological activity. The effect of these treatments was optimal after 6 months and there was more frequent discontinuation of NTZ after 18 months, probably mainly related to JC virus seroconversions. Abstract: PurposeTo determine associations between thermal responses, medical events, performance, heat acclimation and health status during a World Athletics Championships in hot-humid conditions.MethodsFrom 305 marathon and race-walk starters, 83 completed a preparticipation questionnaire on health and acclimation. Core (Tcore; ingestible pill) and skin (Tskin; thermal camera) temperatures were measured in-competition in 56 and 107 athletes, respectively. 70 in-race medical events were analysed retrospectively. Performance (% personal best) and did not finish (DNF) were extracted from official results.ResultsPeak Tcore during competition reached 39.6°C±0.6°C (maximum 41.1°C). Tskin decreased from 32.2°C±1.3°C to 31.0°C±1.4°C during the races (pcore was not related to DNF (25% of starters) or medical events (p≥0.150), whereas Tskin, Tskin rate of decrease and Tcore-to-Tskin gradient were (p≤0.029). A third of the athletes reported symptoms in the 10 days preceding the event, mainly insomnia, diarrhoea and stomach pain, with diarrhoea (9% of athletes) increasing the risk of in-race medical events (71% vs 17%, pcore (39.4°C±0.4°C vs 39.8°C±0.7°C, p=0.044) and larger in-race decrease in Tskin (−1.4°C±1.0°C vs −0.9°C±1.2°C, p=0.060), than non-acclimated athletes. Although not significant, they also showed lower DNF (19% vs 30%, p=0.273) and medical events (19% vs 32%, p=0.179).ConclusionTskin, Tskin rate of decrease and Tcore-to-Tskin gradient were important indicators of heat tolerance. While heat-acclimated athletes ranked better, recent diarrhoea represented a significant risk factor for DNF and in-race medical events.

Abstract: International audience; Modeling is now central to epidemic management (Cauchemez et al., 2011; O. Faye et al., 2015; Gilbert et al., 2020; Temime et al., 2020; Y. T. Kouakep & Tchoumi, et al., 2021). In a world governed by numbers, it has the power to alert and guide public policies, particularly in the field of global health. Despite this, the reliability of those forecasts is questioned (Huc & Mangiarotti, 2016) particularly with regard to the lesser consideration given to the social logics underlying the practices of actors described by anthropology (Brives et al., 2016). In this context and as part of an interdisciplinary work around the implementation of a vaccine trial against Ebola, I wish to question the conditions of possibility and the limits of a collaboration between modelers and anthropologists. To do this, based on ethnographic work carried out in Conakry in the Ebola aftermath, I would like to consider the collaboration between the two disciplines through the example of the notion of "household". We suggest to consider this notion as a boundary-object (Star, 1988) that need to be improved and refined in terms of definition and contextualization on both sides in order to avoid working on the basis of a misunderstanding.

Abstract: The place of Harvard in the development of econometrics is assessed through the research of its faculty and the development of the courses they taught. Over the course of the century, as the content of econometrics was itself transformed, we find that the Harvard department of economics occupied a singular place in the econometric landscape. This idiosyncrasy was defined by large projects such as the Harvard barometer of the 1920s or the postwar development of input-output analysis, but also by the lack of common purpose that often characterized the work of its members. Through the storied halls of the university passed many of the best and brightest, but few were given the chance to pursue their projects durably, to the detriment of the constitution of a "Harvard econometrics."

Abstract: Background Schools were closed extensively in 2020–21 to counter SARS-CoV-2 spread, impacting students’ education and wellbeing. With highly contagious variants expanding in Europe, safe options to maintain schools open are urgently needed. By estimating school-specific transmissibility, our study evaluates costs and benefits of different protocols for SARS-CoV-2 control at school. Methods We developed an agent-based model of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in schools. We used empirical contact data in a primary and a secondary school and data from pilot screenings in 683 schools during the alpha variant (B.1.1.7) wave in March–June, 2021, in France. We fitted the model to observed school prevalence to estimate the schoolspecific effective reproductive number for the alpha (Ralpha) and delta (B.1.617.2; Rdelta) variants and performed a cost– benefit analysis examining different intervention protocols. Findings We estimated Ralpha to be 1·40 (95% CI 1·35–1·45) in the primary school and 1·46 (1·41–1·51) in the secondary school during the spring wave, higher than the time-varying reproductive number estimated from community surveillance. Considering the delta variant and vaccination coverage in Europe as of mid-September, 2021, we estimated Rdelta to be 1·66 (1·60–1·71) in primary schools and 1·10 (1·06–1·14) in secondary schools. Under these conditions, weekly testing of 75% of unvaccinated students (PCR tests on saliva samples in primary schools and lateral flow tests in secondary schools), in addition to symptom-based testing, would reduce cases by 34% (95% CI 32–36) in primary schools and 36% (35–39) in secondary schools compared with symptom-based testing alone. Insufficient adherence was recorded in pilot screening (median ≤53%). Regular testing would also reduce studentdays lost up to 80% compared with reactive class closures. Moderate vaccination coverage in students would still benefit from regular testing for additional control—ie, weekly testing 75% of unvaccinated students would reduce cases compared with symptom-based testing only, by 23% in primary schools when 50% of children are vaccinated. Interpretation The COVID-19 pandemic will probably continue to pose a risk to the safe and normal functioning of schools. Extending vaccination coverage in students, complemented by regular testing with good adherence, are essential steps to keep schools open when highly transmissible variants are circulating.

Abstract: Background The antiviral efficacy of remdesivir in COVID-19 hospitalized patients remains controversial. Objectives To estimate the effect of remdesivir in blocking viral replication. Methods We analysed nasopharyngeal normalized viral loads from 665 hospitalized patients included in the DisCoVeRy trial (NCT 04315948; EudraCT 2020-000936-23), randomized to either standard of care (SoC) or SoC + remdesivir. We used a mathematical model to reconstruct viral kinetic profiles and estimate the antiviral efficacy of remdesivir in blocking viral replication. Additional analyses were conducted stratified on time of treatment initiation (≤7 or >7 days since symptom onset) or viral load at randomization (< or ≥3.5 log10 copies/104 cells). Results In our model, remdesivir reduced viral production by infected cells by 2-fold on average (95% CI: 1.5–3.2-fold). Model-based simulations predict that remdesivir reduced time to viral clearance by 0.7 days compared with SoC, with large inter-individual variabilities (IQR: 0.0–1.3 days). Remdesivir had a larger impact in patients with high viral load at randomization, reducing viral production by 5-fold on average (95% CI: 2.8–25-fold) and the median time to viral clearance by 2.4 days (IQR: 0.9–4.5 days). Conclusions Remdesivir halved viral production, leading to a median reduction of 0.7 days in the time to viral clearance compared with SoC. The efficacy was larger in patients with high viral load at randomization.

Abstract: International audience; AIMS: The heart failure (HF) prognosis in older patients remains poor with a high 5-years mortality rate more frequently attributed to noncardiovascular causes. The complex interplay between frailty and heart failure contribute to poor health outcomes of older adults with HF independently of ejection fraction. The aim of this position paper is to propose a practical management of frailty in older patients with heart failure. METHODS: A panel of multidisciplinary experts on behalf the Heart Failure Working Group of the French Society of Cardiology and on behalf French Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology conducted a systematic literature search on the interlink between frailty and HF, met to propose an early frailty screening by non-geriatricians and to propose ways to implement management plan of frailty. Statements were agreed by expert consensus. RESULTS: Clinically relevant aspects of interlink between frailty and HF have been reported to identify the population eligible for screening and the most suitable screening test(s). The frailty screening program proposed focuses on frailty model defined by an accumulation of deficits including geriatric syndromes, comorbidities, for older patients with HF in different settings of care. The management plan of frailty includes optimization of HF pharmacological treatments and non-surgical device treatment as well as optimization of a global patient-centred biopsychosocial blended collaborative care pathway. CONCLUSION: The current manuscript provides practical recommendations on how to screen and optimize frailty management in older patients with heart failure.

Abstract: (1) Background: The Vaccine Coverage Rate of influenza remains low and omnichannel efforts are required to improve it. The objective was to evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of a QR Code nudging system in outpatient departments. (2) Methods: The study was performed in 6 departments ensuring ambulatory activities in a French university Hospital between November and December 2021. By scanning QR codes, users accessed anonymously to the ELEFIGHT® web app, which provides medical information on influenza and invites them to initiate a discussion about influenza prevention with their physicians during the consultation. (3) Results: 351 people made 529 scans with an average reading time of 1 min and 4 s and a conversion rate of 32%, i.e., people willing to engage in a discussion. (4) Conclusions: The study suggests that direct access to medical information through QR codes in hospitals might help nudge people to raise their awareness and trigger their action on influenza prevention.

Abstract: International audience; Notre travail de synthèse sur les porte-parole pendant la Révolution française obéit à un certain nombre de principes que nous souhaitons présentement développer d’une part sur la base de l’apport foucaldien en matière de pastorat présenté dans un de ses cours, d’autre part autour du législateur Sieyès et le moment 1789, auquel Foucault prête également une attention particulière dans un autre de ses cours. Dans ses cours des années 1976-1978, Michel Foucault entame sa réflexion sur la gouvernementalité et la biopolitique en considérant que les mécanismes du dispositif contemporain de pouvoir se mettent en place à partir du 18ème siècle. A ce titre, l’avènement du porte-parolat, en particulier pendant la Révolution française, est contemporain d’un nouveau dispositif de pouvoir. Dans ce temps de maturation de sa conception de la biopolitique, Foucault parle de ce dispositif révolutionnaire un court moment à propos de la conception propre à Sieyès de la Nation, mais il préfère partir d’un abord de l’âge pastoral, donc du temps historique du pastorat bien antérieur au siècle des Lumières. A partir de cet apport foucaldien peut se préciser toute une série de techniques de pouvoir spécifiques du porte-parolat qui sont basées sur des mécanismes de transfert, des procédures d’inversion, des jeux d’appui d’éléments contraires et des démarches de distribution paradoxale par le fait de relations à la fois de réciprocité et d’exclusion.

Dans une période où Pierre Leroux écrivait, « le socialisme paraît, et l’aube du jour c’est 1830 » (Lettre au Docteur Deville), son cadet, Jules Leroux, typographe ayant, parmi les premiers, esquissé les principes d’une coopérative de production (Aux typographes, 1833) développe dans ces entrées économiques de l’Encyclopédie nouvelle les matériaux d’un anti-Traité répondant au classique Traité d’économie politique publié par Jean-Baptiste Say en 1803 et sans cesse réédité lors d’un premier XIXe siècle qui enregistra l’essor de l’école libérale française. Cette autre économie qui, chez Jules Leroux, suivait les directives d’une doctrine de l’égalité radicale, de la solidarité et de la perfectibilité, bouleversa les principes de la propriété, redéfinissant besoin, travail et richesse, et modifiant les règles de la production, de la distribution et de la répartition.Artisan, se revendiquant d’une pensée de la communauté/communisme, Jules Leroux détonne dans le réseau des prestigieux collaborateurs de l’Encyclopédie. Son frère, Pierre Leroux, l’impose pourtant pour la rédaction de la presque totalité des entrées économiques du corpus. Abstract: International audience; Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a highly prevalent and harmful medical disorder often comorbid with psychosis where it can contribute to cardiovascular complications. As immune dysfunction is a key shared component of both MetS and schizophrenia (SZ), this study investigated the relationship between immune alterations and MetS in patients with SZ, whilst controlling the impact of confounding clinical characteristics including psychiatric symptoms and comorbidities, history of childhood maltreatment and psychotropic treatments.Method: A total of 310 patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for SZ or schizoaffective disorders (SZA), with or without MetS, were systematically assessed and included in the FondaMental Advanced Centers of Expertise for Schizophrenia (FACE-SZ) cohort. Detailed clinical characteristics of patients, including psychotic symptomatology, psychiatric comorbidities and history of childhood maltreatment were recorded and the serum levels of 18 cytokines were measured. A penalized regression method was performed to analyze associations between inflammation and MetS, whilst controlling for confounding factors.ResultsOf the total sample, 25% of patients had MetS. Eight cytokines were above the lower limit of detection (LLOD) in more than 90% of the samples and retained in downstream analysis. Using a conservative Variable Inclusion Probability (VIP) of 75%, we found that elevated levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-7, IL-12/23 p40 and IL-16 and lower levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were associated with MetS. As for clinical variables, age, sex, body mass index (BMI), diagnosis of SZ (not SZA), age at the first episode of psychosis (FEP), alcohol abuse, current tobacco smoking, and treatment with antidepressants and anxiolytics were all associated with MetS.Conclusion: We have identified five cytokines associated with MetS in SZ suggesting that patients with psychotic disorders and MetS are characterized by a specific “immuno-metabolic” profile. This may help to design tailored treatments for this subgroup of patients with both psychotic disorders and MetS, taking one more step towards precision medicine in psychiatry

Abstract: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a pathological condition characterized by impaired motor skills. Current theories advance that a deficit of the internal models is mainly responsible for DCD children’s altered behavior. Yet, accurate movement execution requires not only correct movement planning, but also integration of sensory feedback into body representation for action (Body Schema) to update the state of the body. Here we advance and test the hypothesis that the plasticity of this body representation is altered in DCD. To probe Body Schema (BS) plasticity, we submitted a well-established tool-use paradigm to seventeen DCD children, required to reach for an object with their hand before and after tool use, and compared their movement kinematics to that of a control group of Typically Developing (TD) peers. We also asked both groups to provide explicit estimates of their arm length to probe plasticity of their Body Image (BI). Results revealed that DCD children explicitly judged their arm shorter after tool use, showing changes in their BI comparable to their TD peers. Unlike them, though, DCD did not update their implicit BS estimate: kinematics showed that tool use affected their peak amplitudes, but not their latencies. Remarkably, the kinematics of tool use showed that the motor control of the tool was comparable between groups, both improving with practice, confirming that motor learning abilities are preserved in DCD. This study thus brings evidence in favor of an alternative theoretical account of the DCD etiology. Our findings point to a deficit in the plasticity of the body representation used to plan and execute movements. Though not mutually exclusive, this widens the theoretical perspective under which DCD should be considered: DCD may not be limited to a problem affecting the internal models and their motor functions, but may concern the state of the effector they have to use.

Abstract: National audience; Le traitement des usager·e·s de drogues au sein des institutions médico-sociales proposant accompagnement social, soin et prévention a fait jusqu’à aujourd’hui l’objet de peu d’analyses au prisme des rapports de genres (Neff, 2018). Si cette approche a été mobilisée dans l’étude des carrières de consommation (Bounhik, 2008 ; Simmat-Durand, 2009) et de l’organisation du trafic (Perrin, 2018), on sait encore peu de choses sur la façon dont cesorganismes publics (re)produisent des différenciations, des assignations ou des inégalités fondées sur le genre. Ce chapitre d'ouvrage propose d’y contribuer en s’intéressant à la construction de l’accessibilité à l’offre de services des « Centres d’accueil et d’accompagnement à la réduction des risques pour usagers de drogues » (CAARUD). Il s'agira d'interroger pourquoi, malgré des dispositions pensées pour faciliter l'accès au public, nombre de nombre de femmes limitent leurs recours à ces structures. Deux questions sont ici explorées. Comment comprendre d’abord que les femmes ne recourent pas aux CAARUD à l’égal des hommes alors que ces établissements reposent sur un principe d’accès inconditionnel ? Dans quellemesure ensuite l'existence de rare espace en non-mixité peut compenser cette inégalité structurelle d’accès ?

Abstract: International audience; The emergence, in the mid-twentieth century, of an integrated French educational system that embraces all levels and tracks within a `unique' organised structure of compulsory school education for children between 6 and 16 years of age came with a renewal of the distinctions between the professional identities, trajectories and careers of the various categories of teachers. While this system has helped to redefine, and to some extent blur, the divisions between teaching groups, their professional identities and administrative statuses have remained quite distinct, mainly because of persisting forms of institutional differentiation. In addition, some new lines of division can be observed. Our argument draws on a review of the socio-historical research conducted in relation to three teaching groups (primary school teachers, agrégés and technical and vocational education teachers) and on a particular case study of the contract teachers (contractuels) whose rise marks a new form of segmentation among teachers in France.

Abstract: International audience; Background: In people with schizophrenia, major areas of everyday life are impaired, including independent living, productive activities, social relationships and overall quality of life. Enhanced understanding of factors that hinder real-life functioning is vital for treatments to translate into more positive outcomes.Aim: The goal of the present study was to identify factors associated with motivation deficits in real-life schizophrenia, and to assess its contribution to impaired functioning and quality of life.Methods: Based on previous literature and clinical experience, several factors were selected and grouped into factors potentially explaining motivation deficits. Some of these variables were never investigated before in relationship with motivation deficits.Results: In 561 patients with schizophrenia of the national FACE-SZ cohort living in the community, 235(41.9%) reported severe motivation deficits. These deficits were found to be significantly associated with impaired socially useful activities, psychological and physical quality of life (in almost all domains), alcohol use disorder (aOR =2.141, p = 0.021), severe nicotine dependence (aOR =2.906, p < 0.001) independently of age and sex. No significant association was found for body mass index, metabolic syndrome or physical activity level. In the second model, we identified the following modifiable factors associated with motivation deficits: history of suicide attempt (aOR =2.297, p = 0.001), positive symptoms (aOR =1.052, p = 0.006), current major depressive episode (aOR =2.627, p < 0.001), sleep disorders (aOR =1.474, p = 0.024) and lower medication adherence (aOR =0.836, p = 0.001) independently of gender, current alcohol use disorder, second-generation antipsychotics and akathisia. No significant association was found for negative symptoms, childhood trauma and inflammation. These results were maintained after removing patients with schizoaffective disorders or those with major depressive disorder.Interpretation: Motivation deficits are frequent and remain persistent unmet need in real-world schizophrenia that should be addressed in future guidelines. Based on our results, literature and clinical experience, we recommend to address in priority major depression, sleep, suicide, positive symptoms (when present and as early as possible) and medication adherence to improve motivation deficits of schizophrenia.

Abstract: The lifting of non-pharmaceutical measures preventing transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (and other viruses, including influenza viruses) raises concerns about healthcare resources and fears of an increased number of cases of influenza and COVID-19. For the 2021-2022 influenza season, the WHO and20 European countries promoted coadministration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines. Recently, the French Health Authority recommended coupling the COVID-19 vaccination with the 2022-2023 influenza vaccination campaign for healthcare professionals and people at risk of severe COVID-19. The present systematic review examines published data on the safety, immunogenicity, efficacy/effectiveness, and acceptability/acceptance of coadministration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines. No safety concerns or immune interferences were found whatever the vaccines or the age of vaccinated subjects (65- or 65+). No efficacy/effectiveness data were available. The results should reassure vaccinees and vaccinators in case of coadministration and increase vaccine coverage. Healthcare systems promoting coupled campaigns must provide the necessary means for successful coadministration.The lifting of non-pharmaceutical measures recommended to prevent transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (and other viruses, including influenza viruses) raises concerns about healthcare resources, already under pressure. It also raises fears of an increase in the number of cases of influenza or COVID-19 infection during the winter season. For the 2021–2022 influenza season, the World Health Organization and several European countries promoted concomitant administration in distinct anatomic sites (i.e., coadministration) of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines to avoid additional stress on healthcare systems. In May 2022, the French Health Authority recommended coupling the COVID-19 vaccination with the 2022–2023 influenza vaccination campaign (i.e., starting COVID-19 vaccination at the date of influenza vaccination) for healthcare professionals and people at risk of severe COVID-19, in case of epidemic wave. Coadministration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines is one of the factors of success for a coupled campaign. The present systematic review examines all published data (articles or reports, clinical trials, or surveys) on the safety, immunogenicity, efficacy/effectiveness, and acceptability/acceptance of coadministration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines. The PRISMA method was used to collect information. No safety concerns or immune interferences were found whatever the vaccines or the age of vaccinated subjects (65- or 65+). No efficacy/effectiveness data were available. Acceptability and acceptance were good but could be improved. By reassuring vaccinees and vaccinators, these results are expected to favor coadministration and ultimately increase vaccine coverage, thus offering better protection. Healthcare systems promoting coupled campaigns with coadministration must provide the necessary means for their successful implementation.

Abstract: This chapter reviews the lessons learned from the sociology of lobbyists since the turn of the century, incorporating those of the chapters collected in the book. The first dimension (what do lobbyists do?) concerns the relations between institutions and interest groups and the effects on them of the reforms undertaken in Brussels (in terms of human resources, decision-making processes and transparency). How can we go beyond the influence/instrumentalisation alternative that structures the theoretical offer on this point to account for the complex forms of interdependence linking interest representation organisations and professionals to their administrative and political interlocutors? On the exchange of which types of resources is this interdependence based? What role do advocacy professionals play in the political work of their institutional interlocutors? A second set of questions (who are the lobbyists?) concerns the changes in the profiles and career paths of the lobbyists that accompany these transformations. The normalisation of Brussels lobbying, to which transparency policies contribute, has gone hand in hand with the multiplication, since the 2000s, of institutional solicitations addressed to interest representatives. To what extent have they contributed to a standardisation of professional lobbying practices? Does this phenomenon also concern employees of NGOs and associations defending non-economic and financial interests? What common repertoires of action, but also what different conceptions of what interest representation is and should be at the European level, can the observation of lobbyists' ways of doing and seeing be brought to light? How does the analysis of the trajectories and social properties of these actors shed light on the conditions of possibility of their lobbying strategies, and does it explain their contrasting scope?, Ce chapitre revient sur les enseignements des travaux de sociologie des lobbyistes conduits depuis le tournant du siècle en y intégrant ceux des chapitres rassemblés dans l’ouvrage. Abstract: International audience; Background: When you smell an odorant, your first reaction will certainly be either I like it or I dislike it. This primary reaction is a reflection of what is called the "hedonic value" of the odor. Very often, this hedonic value dominates the olfactory percept, more than olfactory identification or intensity. This component of olfactory perception is of primary importance for guiding behavior: avoiding danger (the smell of smoke, gas, etc.), consuming food, or seduction. Olfactory hedonics can be assessed using a large number of methods in humans, including psychophysical measures, autonomic responses, measurement of facial expressions or peripheral nervous activity. All of these techniques have their limitations: subjectivity, invasiveness, need for expertise, etc. A new method: The olfactory system is closely linked to the reward system, the role of which is to mediate motivated behavior. In this context, we propose that the capacity odorants have of recruiting the reward system and thus inducing motivated behavior can be used to identify new behavioral parameters to assess odor hedonic value in humans. Results: We recorded freely moving human participants exploring odors emanating from flasks, and showed that five parameters linked to motivated behavior were closely linked to odor hedonics: speed of approach to the nose and withdrawal of the flask containing the odorant, distance between flask and nose, number of samplings, and withdrawal distance (maximal distance between nose and flask after odor sampling). Conclusions: We highlighted new non-verbal and non-invasive parameters to evaluate olfactory hedonics in humans based on the assessment of odor-motivated behavior.

Abstract: The radical rejection of the eighteenth-century legacy by a part of the left is a recent stance. Since the French Revolution, which forged its egalitarian foundations, the socialist, communist or anarchist left has defined its identity by a dialectical relationship to illuminism, revealing its desire to fulfill the emancipatory promises of Philosophers while exceeding some of their limits. The book returns to the springs of this positive dialectic of Enlightenment among some of the most illustrious representatives of the left. It shows the inscription of most of the authors and currents of social transformation in the wake of the Enlightenment and the Revolution., Le rejet radical de l’héritage du XVIIIe siècle par une partie de la gauche est une posture récente, dont la première expression remonte à la fin de la Seconde guerre mondiale. Depuis la Révolution française qui a forgé ses fondements égalitaristes, la gauche socialiste, communiste ou anarchiste a défini son identité par un rapport dialectique à l’illuminisme, révélant sa volonté de réaliser les promesses émancipatrices des Philosophes tout en dépassant certaines de leurs limites. L’ouvrage revient sur les ressorts de cette dialectique positive des Lumières chez certains des plus illustres représentants de la gauche. Il montre l’inscription de la majeure partie des auteurs et des courants de transformation sociale dans le sillage des Lumières et de la Révolution.

Abstract: This paper provides a general representation of endogenous and threshold-based regime switching models and develops an efficient numerical solution method. The regime-switching is triggered endogenously when some variables cross threshold conditions that can themselves be regime-dependent. We illustrate our approach using a RBC model with state-dependent government spending policies. It is shown that regime-switching models involve strong non linearities and discontinuities in the dynamics of the model. However, our numerical solution based on simulation and projection methods with regime-dependent policy rules is accurate, and fast enough, to efficiently take into all these challenging aspects. Several alternative specifications to the model and the method are studied.

À partir d’une étude de cas, cet article revient sur les affaires associées au maire d’une commune française. Il étudie les dynamiques de qualification des atteintes à la probité. Il éclaire alors les rapports variés que des acteurs politiques entretiennent avec les normes ainsi que les moyens matériels de faire de la politique., The exercise of local elective functions is increasingly governed by regulations and judicial bodies. It is also subject to supervision by a variety of players. However, this supervision does not prevent the persistence of grey areas giving rise to controversial assessments and judgements. Based on a case study, this article looks back at the affairs associated with the mayor of a French municipality. It examines the dynamics of characterization regarding breaches of probity. It then sheds light on the varied relationships that political actors have with the standards and the material means of doing politics.

Abstract: International audience; Who are and what do the interest representation actors working in Brussels? With around 12,000 organisations listed in the European transparency register and growing budgets, lobbying is a concrete and tangible reality of the functioning of the European Union. However, very little is known about those who carry out this activity.This book aims to fill this gap and shed light on the recent transformations of the European landscape of interest representation. By examining the practices and social trajectories of lobbyists working in Brussels, the empirical research gathered here lifts the veil on an often fantasised world. Combining qualitative and quantitative data, they explore various structures and sectors of activity: very large companies, European federations, public affairs firms, NGOs, trade unions, intervening in financial regulation, the port and pharmaceutical sectors, social policies, the common market or competition, etc. Through the sociological portrait of lobbyists, this book highlights their interdependent relationships with political and institutional actors and their role in the making of European public action.; Qui sont et que font les acteurs de la représentation d’intérêts travaillant à Bruxelles ? Abstract: International audience; Although transcranial Direct Current stimulation (tDCS) shows promise in the treatment of major depressive episodes, the optimal parameters and population to target remain unclear. We investigated the clinical interest of a 10 session tDCS regimen in patients with mild to severe treatment-resistant depression, in a pilot double-blind, randomized sham-controlled trial. tDCS was delivered over 5 consecutive days (two 30 min sessions per day separated by at least 2 h, 2 mA). The anode and cathode were placed over the left and the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, respectively. One month after tDCS, we observed significantly fewer patients who achieved remission (MADRS10 < 10) in the sham group (0 out of 18 patients) than in the active group (5 out of 21 patients; p = 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between the groups regarding the mean scores of severity changes throughout the study period. Bifrontal add-on tDCS delivered twice per day over 5 days, in combination with antidepressant medication, can be a safe and suitable approach to achieve remission in patients with mild to severe treatment-resistant major depressive disorder. However, in regards to the pilot nature and limitations of the present study, further studies are needed before any frank conclusions can be made regarding the use of tDCS with the proposed parameters in clinical settings.

Abstract: International audience; Stereotaxic neurosurgery in laboratory animals is a demanding technique used in a wide variety of studies in Neurosciences. Allowing to position one or more optical, electrical, or chemical probes, this approach remains indispensable for exploring brain functions. To date however, stereotaxic surgery is not taught as a subject per se, but rather passed-on behind closed door in research laboratories, resulting in a variety of practices and success rates. There is therefore a need to harmonize practices and enhance neuroscientists’ habilities to explore the brain in a valuable and reproducible way. Here we introduce an animal-free training on stereotaxic neurosurgery. The teacher/trainee ratio is 1:3 and, as a pre-requisite, trainees validate an online course on elementary concepts such as aseptic techniques, anesthesia and pain management, per-operative animal care, incisions and sutures (Vogt et al, 2011). The course covers the theoretical background of stereotaxy and focuses on techniques and surgical approaches to optimize spatial precision, while minimizing the risks of irreversible harm to the animal. Anatomy and functional organization of the brain are reminded, with a peculiar attention to the 3-dimensional arrangement of brain blood vessels and ventricles. Hands-on practice includes exercises to acquire an ease in the manipulation of a stereotaxic frame, micropositioners, rulers and verniers. Instead of real animals, trainees use realistic high-resolution simulation devices to measure stereotaxic coordinates of cranial landmarks and entry points, and safely prepare the skull for the insertion and fixation of a probe. Exercises are repeated as needed and the accurate placement of a probe can be checked promptly without the need of histology. Tools and supports are made available for trainees to maintain their skills once back to their laboratory.Really designed with the 3Rs’ principle in mind, this course should contribute to promote more reproducible and compassionate approaches in animal research in Neuroscience.Reference(s) :Vogt, C., Gervasoni, D., Grezel, D., Morales, A. Abstract: International audience; Introduction: Fighting pandemics requires an established infrastructure for pandemic preparedness, with existing, sustainable platforms ready to be activated. This includes platforms for disease surveillance, virus circulation, and vaccine performance monitoring based on Real-World data, to complement clinical trial evidence.Areas covered: Because of its complexity, this can best be done by combining efforts between public and private sectors, developing a multi-stakeholder approach. Public-Private-Partnerships increasingly play a critical role in combating infectious diseases but are still looked at with hesitancy. The Development of Robust and Innovative Vaccine Effectiveness (DRIVE) project, which established a platform for measuring brand-specific influenza vaccine effectiveness in Europe, exemplifies how to build a collaborative platform with transparent governance, state-of-the-art methodology, and a large network of participating sites. Lessons learned from DRIVE have been cardinal to set up COVIDRIVE, a platform for brand-specific COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness monitoring.Expert opinion: The DRIVE partners propose that a debate on the benefits of Public-Private-Partnership-generated real-world evidence for vaccine effectiveness monitoring should be pursued to clarify roles and responsibilities, set up expectations, and decide the future environment for vaccine monitoring in Europe. In parallel, the driving factors behind PPP hesitancy should be studied.

Abstract: When describing motion along both the horizontal and vertical axes, languages from different families express the elements encoding verticality before those coding for horizontality (e.g., going up right instead of right up). In light of the motor grounding of language, the present study investigated whether the prevalence of verticality in Path expression also governs the trajectory of arm biological movements. Using a 3D virtual-reality setting, we tracked the kinematics of hand pointing movements in five spatial directions, two of which implied the vertical and horizontal vectors equally (i.e., up right +45° and bottom right −45°). Movement onset could be prompted by visual or auditory verbal cues, the latter being canonical in French (“en haut à droite”/up right) or not (“à droite en haut”/right up). In two experiments, analyses of the index finger kinematics revealed a significant effect of gravity, with earlier acceleration, velocity, and deceleration peaks for upward (+45°) than downward (−45°) movements, irrespective of the instructions. Remarkably, confirming the linguistic observations, we found that vertical kinematic parameters occurred earlier than horizontal ones for upward movements, both for visual and congruent verbal cues. Non-canonical verbal instructions significantly affected this temporal dynamic: for upward movements, the horizontal and vertical components temporally aligned, while they reversed for downward movements where the kinematics of the vertical axis was delayed with respect to that of the horizontal one. This temporal dynamic is so deeply anchored that non-canonical verbal instructions allowed for horizontality to precede verticality only for movements that do not fight against gravity. Altogether, our findings provide new insights into the embodiment of language by revealing that linguistic path may reflect the organization of biological movements, giving priority to the vertical axis.

Abstract: Objectives QyScore® is an imaging analysis tool certified in Europe (CE marked) and the US (FDA cleared) for the automatic volumetry of grey and white matter (GM and WM respectively), hippocampus (HP), amygdala (AM), and white matter hyperintensity (WMH). Here we compare QyScore® performances with the consensus of expert neuroradiologists. Methods Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and the relative volume difference (RVD) for GM, WM volumes were calculated on 50 3DT1 images. DSC and the F1 metrics were calculated for WMH on 130 3DT1 and FLAIR images. For each index, we identified thresholds of reliability based on current literature review results. We hypothesized that DSC/F1 scores obtained using QyScore® markers would be higher than the threshold. In contrast, RVD scores would be lower. Regression analysis and Bland–Altman plots were obtained to evaluate QyScore® performance in comparison to the consensus of three expert neuroradiologists. Results The lower bound of the DSC/F1 confidence intervals was higher than the threshold for the GM, WM, HP, AM, and WMH, and the higher bounds of the RVD confidence interval were below the threshold for the WM, GM, HP, and AM. QyScore®, compared with the consensus of three expert neuroradiologists, provides reliable performance for the automatic segmentation of the GM and WM volumes, and HP and AM volumes, as well as WMH volumes. Conclusions QyScore® represents a reliable medical device in comparison with the consensus of expert neuroradiologists. Therefore, QyScore® could be implemented in clinical trials and clinical routine to support the diagnosis and longitudinal monitoring of neurological diseases. Key Points • QyScore® provides reliable automatic segmentation of brain structures in comparison with the consensus of three expert neuroradiologists. • QyScore® automatic segmentation could be performed on MRI images using different vendors and protocols of acquisition. In addition, the fast segmentation process saves time over manual and semi-automatic methods. • QyScore® could be implemented in clinical trials and clinical routine to support the diagnosis and longitudinal monitoring of neurological diseases.
