We investigate the gravitational microlensing event KMT-2019-BLG-1715, of which light curve shows two short-term anomalies from a caustic-crossing binary-lensing light curve: one with a large deviation and the other with a small deviation. We identify five pairs of solutions, in which the anomalies are explained by adding an extra lens or source component in addition to the base binary-lens model. We resolve the degeneracies by applying a method, in which the measured flux ratio between the first and second source stars is compared with the flux ratio deduced from the ratio of the source radii. Applying this method leaves a single pair of viable solutions, in both of which the major anomaly is generated by a planetary-mass third body of the lens, and the minor anomaly is generated by a faint second source. A Bayesian analysis indicates that the lens comprises three masses: a planet-mass object with $\sim 2.6~M_{\rm J}$ and binary stars of K and M dwarfs lying in the galactic disk. Long secondary periods (LSPs), observed in a third of pulsating red giant stars, are the only unexplained type of large-amplitude stellar variability known at this time. Here we show that this phenomenon is a manifestation of a substellar or stellar companion orbiting the red giant star. Our investigation is based on a sample of about 16,000 well-defined LSP variables detected in the long-term OGLE photometric database of the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds, combined with the mid-infrared data extracted from the NEOWISE-R archive. From this collection, we selected about 700 objects with stable, large-amplitude, well-sampled infrared light curves and found that about half of them exhibit secondary eclipses, thus presenting an important piece of evidence that the physical mechanism responsible for LSPs is binarity. Namely, the LSP light changes are due to the presence of a dusty cloud orbiting the red giant together with the companion and obscuring the star once per orbit. The secondary eclipses, visible only in the infrared wavelength, occur when the cloud is hidden behind the giant. In this scenario, the low-mass companion is a former planet that has accreted a significant amount of mass from the envelope of its host star and grown into a brown dwarf., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

In order to exhume the buried signatures of "missing planetary caustics" in the KMTNet data, we conducted a systematic anomaly search to the residuals from point-source point-lens fits, based on a modified version of the KMTNet EventFinder algorithm. This search reveals the lowest mass-ratio planetary caustic to date in the microlensing event OGLE-2019-BLG-1053, for which the planetary signal had not been noticed before. The planetary system has a planet-host mass ratio of $q = (1.25 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-5}$. A Bayesian analysis yields estimates of the mass of the host star, $M_{\rm host} = 0.61_{-0.24}^{+0.29}~M_\odot$, the mass of its planet, $M_{\rm planet} = 2.48_{-0.98}^{+1.19}~M_{\oplus}$, the projected planet-host separation, $a_\perp = 3.4_{-0.5}^{+0.5}$ au, and the lens distance of $D_{\rm L} = 6.8_{-0.9}^{+0.6}$ kpc. We present a collection of 10 111 genuine delta Sct-type pulsating variable stars detected in the OGLE-IV Galactic bulge fields. In this sample, 9835 variables are new discoveries. For most of the stars photometric data cover the whole decade 2010-2019. We illustrate a huge variety of light curve shapes of delta Sct variables. Long-term observations have allowed us to spot objects with evident period, amplitude, and mean brightness variations. Our analysis indicates that about 28% of the stars are single-mode pulsators. Fourteen delta Sct stars show additional eclipsing or ellipsoidal binary modulation. We report significant attenuation or even disappearance of the pulsation signal in six sources. The whole set of variables is a mix of objects representing various Milky Way's populations, with the majority of stars from the Galactic bulge. There are also representatives of the Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy. Some of the newly detected variables could be SX Phe-type stars residing in globular clusters. We report the results of eROSITA and NICER observations of the June 2020 outburst of the Be/X-ray binary pulsar RX J0529.8-6556 in the Large Magellanic Cloud, along with the analysis of archival X-ray and optical data from this source. We find two anomalous features in the system's behavior. First, the pulse profile observed by NICER during maximum luminosity is similar to that observed by XMM-Newton in 2000, despite the fact that the X-ray luminosity was different by two orders of magnitude. By contrast, a modest decrease in luminosity in the 2020 observations generated a significant change in pulse profile. Second, we find that the historical optical outbursts are not strictly periodic, as would be expected if the outbursts were triggered by periastron passage, as is generally assumed. The optical peaks are also not coincident with the X-ray outbursts. We suggest that this behavior may result from a misalignment of the Be star disk and the orbital plane, which might cause changes in the timing of the passage of the neutron star through the disk as it precesses. We report the discovery of a new high mass X-ray binary pulsar, XMMU J050722.1-684758, possibly associated with the supernova remnant MCSNR J0507-6847 in the Large Magellanic Cloud, using XMM-Newton X-ray observations. Pulsations with a periodicity of 570 s are discovered from the Be X-ray binary XMMU J050722.1-684758 confirming its nature as a HMXB pulsar. The HMXB is located near the geometric centre of the supernova remnant MCSNR J0507-6847 (0.9 arcmin from the centre) which supports the XRB-SNR association. The estimated age of the supernova remnant is 43-63 kyr which points to a middle aged to old supernova remnant. The large diameter of the supernova remnant combined with the lack of distinctive shell counterparts in optical and radio indicates that the SNR is expanding into the tenous environment of the superbubble N103. The estimated magnetic field strength of the neutron star is $B\gtrsim10^{14}$ G assuming a spin equilibrium condition which is expected from the estimated age of the parent remnant and assuming that the measured mass-accretion rate remained constant throughout., Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2018-BLG-1428, which has a short-duration ($\sim 1$ day) caustic-crossing anomaly. The event was caused by a planetary lens system with planet/host mass ratio $q=1.7\times10^{-3}$. Thanks to the detection of the caustic-crossing anomaly, the finite source effect was well measured, but the microlens parallax was not constrained due to the relatively short timescale ($t_{\rm E}=24$ days). From a Bayesian analysis, we find that the host star is a dwarf star $M_{\rm host}=0.43^{+0.33}_{-0.22} \ M_{\odot}$ at a distance $D_{\rm L}=6.22^{+1.03}_{-1.51}\ {\rm kpc}$ and the planet is a Jovian-mass planet $M_{\rm p}=0.77^{+0.77}_{-0.53} \ M_{\rm J}$ with a projected separation $a_{\perp}=3.30^{+0.59}_{-0.83}\ {\rm au}$. The planet orbits beyond the snow line of the host star. Considering the relative lens-source proper motion of $\mu_{\rm rel} = 5.58 \pm 0.38\ \rm mas\ yr^{-1}$, the lens can be resolved by adaptive optics with a 30m telescope in the future., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, accepted in MNRAS

We present the bolometric lightcurve, identification and analysis of the progenitor candidate, and preliminary modelling of AT2016jbu (Gaia16cfr). We find a progenitor consistent with a $\sim$22--25~$M_{\odot}$ yellow hypergiant surrounded by a dusty circumstellar shell, in agreement with what has been previously reported. We see evidence for significant photometric variability in the progenitor, as well as strong H$\alpha$ emission consistent with pre-existing circumstellar material. The age of the environment as well as the resolved stellar population surrounding AT2016jbu, support a progenitor age of $>$10 Myr, consistent with a progenitor mass of $\sim$22~$M_{\odot}$. A joint analysis of the velocity evolution of AT2016jbu, and the photospheric radius inferred from the bolometric lightcurve shows the transient is consistent with two successive outbursts/explosions. The first outburst ejected material with velocity $\sim$650$kms^{-1}$, while the second, more energetic event, ejected material at $\sim$4500$kms^{-1}$. Whether the latter is the core-collapse of the progenitor remains uncertain. We place a limit on the ejected $^{56}$Ni mass of $<$0.016$M_{\odot}$. Using the BPASS code, we explore a wide range of possible progenitor systems, and find that the majority of these are in binaries, some of which are undergoing mass transfer or common envelope evolution immediately prior to explosion. Finally, we use the SNEC code to demonstrate that the low-energy explosion within some of these binary systems, together with sufficient CSM, can reproduce the overall morphology of the lightcurve of AT2016jbu., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present the results from a high cadence, multi-wavelength observation campaign of AT 2016jbu (aka Gaia16cfr), an interacting transient. This dataset complements the current literature by adding higher cadence as well as extended coverage of the lightcurve evolution and late-time spectroscopic evolution. Photometric coverage reveals that AT 2016jbu underwent significant photometric variability followed by two luminous events, the latter of which reached an absolute magnitude of M$_V\sim$-18.5 mag. This is similar to the transient SN 2009ip whose nature is still debated. Spectra are dominated by narrow emission lines and show a blue continuum during the peak of the second event. AT 2016jbu shows signatures of a complex, non-homogeneous circumstellar material (CSM). We see slowly evolving asymmetric hydrogen line profiles, with velocities of 500km$s^{-1}$ seen in narrow emission features from a slow moving CSM, and up to 10,000km$s^{-1}$ seen in broad absorption from some high velocity material. Late-time spectra ($\sim$+1 year) show a lack of forbidden emission lines expected from a core-collapse supernova and are dominated by strong emission from H, He i and Ca ii. Strong asymmetric emission features, a bumpy lightcurve, and continually evolving spectra suggest an inhibit nebular phase. We compare the evolution of H$\alpha$ among SN 2009ip-like transients and find possible evidence for orientation angle effects. We present the analyses of two microlensing events, OGLE-2018-BLG-0567 and OGLE-2018-BLG-0962. In both events, the short-lasting anomalies were densely and continuously covered by two high-cadence surveys. The light-curve modeling indicates that the anomalies are generated by source crossings over the planetary caustics induced by planetary companions to the hosts. The estimated planet/host separation (scaled to the angular Einstein radius $\theta_{\rm E}$) and mass ratio are $(s, q) = (1.81, 1.24\times10^{-3})$ and $(s, q) = (1.25, 2.38\times10^{-3})$, respectively. From Bayesian analyses, we estimate the host and planet masses as $(M_{\rm h}, M_{\rm p}) = (0.24_{-0.13}^{+0.16}\,M_{\odot}, 0.32_{-0.16}^{+0.34}\,M_{\rm J})$ and $(M_{\rm h}, M_{\rm p}) = (0.55_{-0.29}^{+0.32}\,M_{\odot}, 1.37_{-0.72}^{+0.80}\,M_{\rm J})$, respectively. These planetary systems are located at a distance of $7.07_{-1.15}^{+0.93}\,{\rm kpc}$ for OGLE-2018-BLG-0567 and $6.47_{-1.73}^{+1.04}\,{\rm kpc}$ for OGLE-2018-BLG-0962, suggesting that they are likely to be near the Galactic bulge. The two events prove the capability of current high-cadence surveys for finding planets through the planetary-caustic channel. We aim to find missing microlensing planets hidden in the unanalyzed lensing events of previous survey data. For this purpose, we conduct a systematic inspection of high-magnification microlensing events, with peak magnifications $A_{\rm peak}\gtrsim 30$, in the data collected from high-cadence surveys in and before the 2018 season. From this investigation, we identify an anomaly in the lensing light curve of the event KMT-2018-BLG-1025. The analysis of the light curve indicates that the anomaly is caused by a very low mass-ratio companion to the lens. We identify three degenerate solutions, in which the ambiguity between a pair of solutions (solutions B) is caused by the previously known close--wide degeneracy, and the degeneracy between these and the other solution (solution A) is a new type that has not been reported before. The estimated mass ratio between the planet and host is $q\sim 0.8\times 10^{-4}$ for the solution A and $q\sim 1.6\times 10^{-4}$ for the solutions B. From the Bayesian analysis conducted with measured observables, we estimate that the masses of the planet and host and the distance to the lens are $(M_{\rm p}, M_{\rm h}, D_{\rm L})\sim (6.1~M_\oplus, 0.22~M_\odot, 6.7~{\rm kpc})$ for the solution A and $\sim (4.4~M_\oplus, 0.08~M_\odot, 7.5~{\rm kpc})$ for the solutions B. The planet mass is in the category of a super-Earth regardless of the solutions, making the planet the eleventh super-Earth planet, with masses lying between those of Earth and the Solar system's ice giants, discovered by microlensing., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, 5 tables

The Gaia early Data Release 3 has delivered exquisite astrometric data for 1.47 billion sources, which is revolutionizing many fields in astronomy. For a small fraction of these sources, the astrometric solutions are poor, and the reported values and uncertainties may not apply. Before any analysis, it is important to recognize and excise these spurious results - this is commonly done by means of quality flags in the Gaia catalog. Here, we devise a means of separating 'good' from 'bad' astrometric solutions that is an order of magnitude cleaner than any single flag: 99.3% pure and 97.3% complete, as validated on our test data. We devise an extensive sample of manifestly bad astrometric solutions, with parallax that is negative at > 4.5 sigma; and a corresponding sample of presumably good solutions, including sources in HEALPix pixels on the sky that do not contain such negative parallaxes, and sources that fall on the main sequence in a color-absolute magnitude diagram. We then train a neural network that uses 17 pertinent Gaia catalog entries and information about nearby sources to discriminate between these two samples, captured in a single 'astrometric fidelity' parameter. A diverse set of verification tests shows that our approach works very cleanly, including for sources with positive parallaxes. The main limitations of our approach are in the very low-SNR and the crowded regime. We show that the perturbation at the peak of the light curve of microlensing event KMT-2019-BLG-0371 is explained by a model with a mass ratio between the host star and planet of $q \sim 0.08$. Due to the short event duration ($t_{\rm E} \sim 6.5\ $ days), the secondary object in this system could potentially be a massive giant planet. A Bayesian analysis shows that the system most likely consists of a host star with a mass $M_{\rm h} = 0.09^{+0.14}_{-0.05}M_{\odot}$ and a massive giant planet with a mass $M_{\rm p} = 7.70^{+11.34}_{-3.90}M_{\rm Jup}$. However, the interpretation of the secondary as a planet (i.e., as having $M_{\rm p} < 13 M_{\rm Jup}$) rests entirely on the Bayesian analysis. Motivated by this event, we conduct an investigation to determine which constraints meaningfully affect Bayesian analyses for microlensing events. We find that the masses inferred from such a Bayesian analysis are determined almost entirely by the measured value of $\theta_{\rm E}$ and are relatively insensitive to other factors such as the direction of the event $(\ell, b)$, the lens-source relative proper motion $\mu_{\rm rel}$, or the specific Galactic model prior., Comment: 23pages, 7 figures

We report the analysis of OGLE-2019-BLG-0960, which contains the smallest mass-ratio microlensing planet found to date (q = 1.2--1.6 x 10^{-5} at 1-sigma). Although there is substantial uncertainty in the satellite parallax measured by Spitzer, the measurement of the annual parallax effect combined with the finite source effect allows us to determine the mass of the host star (M_L = 0.3--0.6 M_Sun), the mass of its planet (m_p = 1.4--3.1 M_Earth), the projected separation between the host and planet (a_perp = 1.2--2.3 au), and the distance to the lens system (D_L = 0.6--1.2 kpc). The lens is plausibly the blend, which could be checked with adaptive optics observations. As the smallest planet clearly below the break in the mass-ratio function (Suzuki et al. 2016; Jung et al. 2019), it demonstrates that current experiments are powerful enough to robustly measure the slope of the mass-ratio function below that break. We find that the cross-section for detecting small planets is maximized for planets with separations just outside of the boundary for resonant caustics and that sensitivity to such planets can be maximized by intensively monitoring events whenever they are magnified by a factor A > 5. Finally, an empirical investigation demonstrates that most planets showing a degeneracy between (s > 1) and (s < 1) solutions are not in the regime (|log s| >> 0) for which the "close"/"wide" degeneracy was derived. This investigation suggests a link between the "close"/"wide" and "inner/outer" degeneracies and also that the symmetry in the lens equation goes much deeper than symmetries uncovered for the limiting cases., Comment: 32 pages, 15 figures, 5 tables. Using the six years of the spectroscopic monitoring of the luminous quasar HE 0435-4312 ($z=1.2231$) with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), in combination with the photometric data (CATALINA, OGLE, SALTICAM, and BMT), we determined the rest-frame time-delay of $296^{+13}_{-14}$ days between the MgII broad-line emission and the ionizing continuum using seven different time-delay inference methods. Artefact time-delay peaks and aliases were mitigated using the bootstrap method, prior weighting probability function as well as by analyzing unevenly sampled mock light curves. The MgII emission is considerably variable with the fractional variability of $\sim 5.4\%$, which is comparable to the continuum variability ($\sim 4.8\%$). Because of its high luminosity ($L_{3000}=10^{46.4}\,{\rm erg\,s^{-1}}$), the source is beneficial for a further reduction of the scatter along the MgII-based radius-luminosity relation and its extended versions, especially when the high-accreting subsample that has an RMS scatter of $\sim 0.2$ dex is considered. This opens up a possibility to use the high-accretor MgII-based radius-luminosity relation for constraining cosmological parameters. We report a giant exoplanet discovery in the microlensing event OGLE-2017-BLG-1049, which is a planet-host star mass ratio of $q=9.53\pm0.39\times10^{-3}$ and has a caustic crossing feature in the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) observations. The caustic crossing feature yields an angular Einstein radius of $\theta_{\rm E}=0.52 \pm 0.11\ {\rm mas}$. However, the microlens parallax is not measured because of the time scale of the event $t_{\rm E}\simeq 29\ {\rm days}$, which is not long enough in this case to determine the microlens parallax. Thus, we perform a Bayesian analysis to estimate physical quantities of the lens system. From this, we find that the lens system has a star with mass $M_{\rm h}=0.55^{+0.36}_{-0.29} \ M_{\odot}$ hosting a giant planet with $M_{\rm p}=5.53^{+3.62}_{-2.87} \ M_{\rm Jup}$, at a distance of $D_{\rm L}=5.67^{+1.11}_{-1.52}\ {\rm kpc}$. The projected star-planet separation in units of the Einstein radius $(\theta_{\rm E})$ corresponding to the total mass of the lens system is $a_{\perp}=3.92^{+1.10}_{-1.32}\ \rm{au}$. This means that the planet is located beyond the snow line of the host. The relative lens-source proper motion is $\mu_{\rm rel}\sim 7 \ \rm{mas \ yr^{-1}}$, thus the lens and source will be separated from each other within 10 years. We report the discovery and analysis of a planet in the microlensing event OGLE-2018-BLG-0799. The planetary signal was observed by several ground-based telescopes, and the planet-host mass ratio is $q = (2.65 \pm 0.16) \times 10^{-3}$. The ground-based observations yield a constraint on the angular Einstein radius $\theta_{\rm E}$, and the microlensing parallax vector $\vec{\pi}_{\rm E}$, is strongly constrained by the Spitzer data. However, the 2019 Spitzer baseline data reveal systematics in the Spitzer photometry, so there is ambiguity in the magnitude of the parallax. In our preferred interpretation, a full Bayesian analysis using a Galactic model indicates that the planetary system is composed of an $M_{\rm planet} = 0.26_{-0.11}^{+0.22}~M_{J}$ planet orbiting an $M_{\rm host} = 0.093_{-0.038}^{+0.082}~M_{\odot}$, at a distance of $D_{\rm L} = 3.71_{-1.70}^{+3.24}$ kpc. An alternate interpretation of the data shifts the localization of the minima along the arc-shaped microlens parallax constraints. This, in turn, yields a more massive host with median mass of $0.13 {M_{\odot}}$ at a distance of 6.3 kpc. This analysis demonstrates the robustness of the osculating circles formalism, but shows that further investigation is needed to assess how systematics affect the specific localization of the microlens parallax vector and, consequently, the inferred physical parameters., Comment: Published by MNRAS

We report a new free-floating planet (FFP) candidate, KMT-2017-BLG-2820, with Einstein radius $\theta_\e\simeq 6\,\muas$, lens-source relative proper motion $\mu_\rel \simeq 8\,\masyr$, and Einstein timescale $t_\e=6.5\,$hr. It is the third FFP candidate found in an ongoing study of giant-source finite-source point-lens (FSPL) events in the KMTNet data base, and the sixth FSPL FFP candidate overall. We find no significant evidence for a host. Based on their timescale distributions and detection rates, we argue that five of these six FSPL FFP candidates are drawn from the same population as the six point-source point-lens (PSPL) FFP candidates found by \citet{mroz17} in the OGLE-IV data base. The $\theta_\e$ distribution of the FSPL FFPs implies that they are either sub-Jovian planets in the bulge or super-Earths in the disk. However, the apparent "Einstein Desert" ($10\la\theta_\e/\muas\la 30$) would argue for the latter. Whether each of the 12 (6 FSPL and 6 PSPL) FFP candidates is truly an FFP, or simply a very wide-separation planet, can be determined at first adaptive optics (AO) light on 30m telescopes, and earlier for some. If the latter, a second epoch of AO observations could measure the projected planet-host separation with a precision ${\cal O}(10\,\au)$. Some low-mass planets are expected to be ejected from their parent planetary systems during early stages of planetary system formation. According to planet-formation theories, such as the core accretion theory, typical masses of ejected planets should be between 0.3 and 1.0 $M_{\oplus}$. Although in practice such objects do not emit any light, they may be detected using gravitational microlensing via their light-bending gravity. Microlensing events due to terrestrial-mass rogue planets are expected to have extremely small angular Einstein radii (< 1 uas) and extremely short timescales (< 0.1 day). Here, we present the discovery of the shortest-timescale microlensing event, OGLE-2016-BLG-1928, identified to date ($t_{\rm E} \approx 0.0288\ \mathrm{day} = 41.5 \mathrm{min}$). Thanks to the detection of finite-source effects in the light curve of the event, we were able to measure the angular Einstein radius of the lens $\theta_{\rm E} = 0.842 \pm 0.064$ uas, making the event the most extreme short-timescale microlens discovered to date. Depending on its unknown distance, the lens may be a Mars- to Earth-mass object, with the former possibility favored by the Gaia proper motion measurement of the source. The planet may be orbiting a star but we rule out the presence of stellar companions up to the projected distance of 8.0 au from the planet. Supersoft X-ray sources (SSS) have been identified as white dwarfs accreting from binary companions and undergoing nuclear-burning of the accreted material on their surface. Although expected to be a relatively numerous population from both binary evolution models and their identification as Type Ia supernova progenitor candidates, given the very soft spectrum of SSSs relatively few are known. Here we report on the X-ray and optical properties of 1RXS J050526.3-684628, a previously unidentified accreting nuclear-burning white dwarf located in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). XMM-Newton observations enabled us to study its X-ray spectrum and measure for the first time short period oscillations of ~170 s. By analysing newly obtained X-ray data by eROSITA, together with Swift observations and archival ROSAT data, we have followed its long-term evolution over the last 3 decades. We identify 1RXS J050526.3-684628 as a slowly-evolving post-nova SSS undergoing residual surface nuclear-burning, which finally reached its peak in 2013 and is now declining. Though long expected on theoretical grounds, such long-lived residual-burning objects had not yet been found. By comparison with existing models, we find that the effective temperature and luminosity evolution are consistent with a ~0.7 $M_{\odot}$ carbon-oxygen white dwarf accreting ~10$^{-9}~\rm{M}_{\odot}$/yr. We present modeling of the long-term optical light curve and radial velocity curve of the binary stellar system CXOGBS J175553.2-281633, first detected in X-rays in the \textit{Chandra} Galactic Bulge Survey. We analyzed 7 years of optical I-band photometry from OGLE and found long-term variations from year to year. These long-term variations can most likely be explained with by either variations in the luminosity of the accretion disk or a spotted secondary star. The phased light curve has a sinusoidal shape, which we interpret as being due to ellipsoidal modulations. We improve the orbital period to be $P = 10.34488 \pm 0.00006$ h with a time of inferior conjunction of the secondary star $T_0 = {\rm HJD\ } 2455260.8204 \pm 0.0008$. Moreover, we collected 37 spectra over 6 non-consecutive nights. The spectra show evidence for an evolved K7 secondary donor star, from which we obtain a semi-amplitude for the radial velocity curve of $K_2 = 161 \pm 6 $ km s$^{-1}$. Using the light curve synthesis code {\tt XRbinary}, we derive the most likely orbital inclination for the binary of $i = 63.0\pm0.7$ deg, a primary mass of $M_1 = 0.83 \pm 0.06$ M$_\odot$, consistent with a white dwarf accretor, and a secondary donor mass of $M_2 = 0.65 \pm 0.07$ M$_\odot$, consistent with the spectral classification. Anomalous Cepheids (ACs) are metal-deficient, core-helium-burning pulsating stars with masses in the range 1.2-2.2 M_S. Until recently, all known ACs were pure single-mode pulsators. The first candidate for an AC pulsating in more than one radial mode - OGLE-GAL-ACEP-091 - was recently identified in the Milky Way based on the photometric database of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) survey. We analyze this object showing that it is actually a triple-mode pulsator. Its position in the Petersen diagram, the light-curve morphology quantified by Fourier coefficients, and absolute magnitudes derived from the Gaia parallax are consistent with the assumption that OGLE-GAL-ACEP-091 is an AC. Our grid of linear pulsation models indicates that OGLE-GAL-ACEP-091 is a 1.8 M_S star with a metallicity of about [Fe/H] = -0.5 dex., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Letters

Microlensing planets occurring on faint source stars can escape detection due to their weak signals. Occasionally, detections of such planets are not reported due to the difficulty of extracting high-profile scientific issues on the detected planets. For the solid demographic census of microlensing planetary systems based on a complete sample, we investigate the microlensing data obtained in the 2016 and 2017 seasons to search for planetary signals in faint-source lensing events. From this investigation, we find four unpublished microlensing planets including KMT-2016-BLG-2364Lb, KMT-2016-BLG-2397Lb, OGLE-2017-BLG-0604Lb, and OGLE-2017-BLG-1375Lb. We analyze the observed lensing light curves and determine their lensing parameters. From Bayesian analyses conducted with the constraints from the measured parameters, it is found that the masses of the hosts and planets are in the ranges $0.50\lesssim M_{\rm host}/M_\odot\lesssim 0.85$ and $0.5 \lesssim M_{\rm p}/M_{\rm J}\lesssim 13.2$, respectively, indicating that all planets are giant planets around host stars with subsolar masses. The lenses are located in the distance range of $3.8 \lesssim \dl/{\rm kpc}\lesssim 6.4$. It is found that the lenses of OGLE-2017-BLG-0604 and OGLE-2017-BLG-1375 are likely to be in the Galactic disk., Comment: 11 pages, 8 tables, 12 figures

We report on the results of a comprehensive search for Cepheid variable stars in the fields photometricallymonitored by the OGLE Galaxy Variability Survey. We identify 742 Cepheids not included in the first release of the OGLE Collection of Galactic Cepheids and reclassify several dozen previously published variables. The upgraded collection comprises 1974 classical, 1625 type II, and 119 anomalous Cepheids located in the area of about 3000 square degrees covering the disk and bulge of the Milky Way. We present the most interesting objects in our sample: an isolated group of long-period doublemode classical Cepheids pulsating in the fundamental mode and first overtone, the first known Galactic double-mode Cepheid with the second and third overtone excited, double-mode type II Cepheids, candidates for single-mode first-overtone BL Her stars, and Cepheids showing simultaneous eclipsing variability. We have used photometric data on almost 91 000 fundamental-mode RR Lyrae stars (type RRab) detected by the OGLE survey to investigate properties of old populations in the Milky Way. Based on their metallicity distributions, we demonstrate that the Galaxy is built from three distinct old components: halo, bulge, and disk. The distributions reach their maxima at approximately [Fe/H]_J95 = -1.2, -1.0, and -0.6 dex on the Jurcsik's metallicity scale, respectively. We find that, very likely, the entire halo is formed from infalling dwarf galaxies. It is evident that halo stars penetrate the inner regions of the Galactic bulge. We estimate that about one-third of all RR Lyr stars within the bulge area belong in fact to the halo population. The whole old bulge is dominated by two populations, A and B, represented by a double sequence in the period-amplitude (Bailey) diagram. The boundary in iron abundance between the halo and the disk population is at about [Fe/H]_J95 = -0.8 dex. Using Gaia DR2 for RRab stars in the disk area, we show that the observed dispersion of proper motions along the Galactic latitude decreases smoothly with the increasing metal content excluding a bump around [Fe/H]_J95 = -1.0 dex., Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, submitted to Acta Astronomica

We report the discovery of a planet in the microlensing event OGLE-2018-BLG-1269, with planet-host mass ratio $q \sim 6\times10^{-4}$, i.e., $0.6$ times smaller than the Jupiter/Sun mass ratio. Combined with the $Gaia$ parallax and proper motion, a strong one-dimensional constraint on the microlens parallax vector allows us to significantly reduce the uncertainties of lens physical parameters. A Bayesian analysis that ignores any information about light from the host yields that the planet is a cold giant $(M_{2} = 0.69_{-0.22}^{+0.44}\,M_{\rm J})$ orbiting a Sun-like star $(M_{1} = 1.13_{-0.35}^{+0.72}\,M_{\odot})$ at a distance of $D_{\rm L} = 2.56_{-0.62}^{+0.92}\,{\rm kpc}$. The projected planet-host separation is $a_{\perp} = 4.61_{-1.17}^{+1.70}\,{\rm au}$. Using {\it Gaia} astrometry, we show that the blended light lies $\lesssim 12\,$mas from the host and therefore must be either the host star or a stellar companion to the host. An isochrone analysis favors the former possibility at $>99.6\%$. The host is therefore a subgiant. For host metallicities in the range of $0.0 \leq {\rm [Fe/H]} \leq +0.3$, the host and planet masses are then in the range of $1.16 \leq M_{1}/M_{\odot} \leq 1.38$ and $0.74 \leq M_{2}/M_{\rm J} \leq 0.89$, respectively. Low host metallicities are excluded. The brightness and proximity of the lens make the event a strong candidate for spectroscopic followup both to test the microlensing solution and to further characterize the system., Comment: 40 pages, 11 figures, and 3 tables

We report on the discovery of Swift J004516.6-734703, a Be/X-ray binary system by the Swift SMC Survey, S-CUBED. Swift J004516.6-734703, or SXP 146.6, was found to be exhibiting a bright (~10^37 erg/s) X-ray outburst in 2020 June 18. The historical UV and IR light-curves from OGLE and Swift/UVOT showed that after a long period of steady brightness, it experienced a significant brightening beginning around 2019 March. This IR/UV rise is likely the signature of the formation of a circumstellar disc, confirmed by the presence of strong a H{\alpha} line in SALT spectroscopy, that was not previously present. Periodicity analysis of the OGLE data reveals a plausible 426 day binary period, and in the X-ray a pulsation period of 146.6s period is detected. The onset of X-ray emission from Swift J004516.6-734703 is likely the signature of a Type-I outburst from the first periastron passage of the neutron star companion through the newly formed circumstellar disc. We note that the formation of the circumstellar disc began at the predicted time of the previous periastron passage, suggesting its formation was spurred by tidal interaction with the neutron star., Comment: 6 Pages, 7 Figures, 1 Table. For a long time XMMU J010331.7-730144 was proposed as a high-mass X-ray binary candidate based on its X-ray properties, however, its optical behaviour was unclear - in particular previous observations did not reveal key Balmer emission lines. In this paper we report on optical and X-ray variability of the system. XMMU J010331.7-730144 has been monitored with the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) in the I and V-bands for the past 9 years where it has shown extremely large amplitude outbursts separated by long periods of low-level flux. During its most recent optical outburst we obtained spectra with the Southern Africa Large Telescope (SALT) where, for the first time, the H-alpha line is seen in emission, confirming the Be nature of the optical companion. The OGLE colour-magnitude diagrams also exhibit a distinct loop which is explained by changes in mass-loss from the Be star and mass outflow in its disc. In the X-rays, XMMU J010331.7-730144 has been monitored by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory through the S-CUBED programme. The X-ray flux throughout the monitoring campaign shows relatively low values for a typical Be/X-ray binary system. We show, from the analysis of the optical data, that the variability is due to the Be disc density and opacity changing rather than its physical extent as a result of efficient truncation by the NS. The relatively low X-ray flux can then be explained by the neutron star normally accreting matter at a low rate due to the small radial extent of the Be disc., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present the most extensive and detailed reddening maps of the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) derived from the color properties of Red Clump (RC) stars. The analysis is based on the deep photometric maps from the fourth phase of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE-IV), covering approximately 670 deg2 of the sky in the Magellanic System region. The resulting maps provide reddening information for 180 deg2 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and 75 deg2 in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), with a resolution of 1.7x1.7 arcmin in the central parts of the MCs, decreasing to approximately 27x27 arcmin in the outskirts. The mean reddening is E(V-I) = 0.100 +- 0.043 mag in the LMC and E(V-I) = 0.047 +- 0.025 mag in the SMC. We refine methods of calculating the RC color to obtain the highest possible accuracy of reddening maps based on RC stars. Using spectroscopy of red giants, we find the metallicity gradient in both MCs, which causes a slight decrease of the intrinsic RC color with distance from the galaxy center of ~0.002 mag/deg in the LMC and between 0.003 and 0.009 mag/deg in the SMC. The central values of the intrinsic RC color are 0.886 and 0.877 mag in the LMC and SMC, respectively. We present the monitoring of the AGN continuum and MgII broad line emission for the quasar HE 0413-4031 ($z=1.38$) based on the six-year monitoring by the South African Large Telescope (SALT). We managed to estimate a time-delay of $302.6^{+28.7}_{-33.1}$ days in the rest frame of the source using seven different methods: interpolated cross-correlation function (ICCF), discrete correlation function (DCF), $z$-transformed DCF, JAVELIN, two estimators of data regularity (Von Neumann, Bartels), and $\chi^2$ method. This time-delay is below the value expected from the standard radius-luminosity relation. However, based on the monochromatic luminosity of the source and the SED modelling, we interpret this departure as the shortening of the time-delay due to the higher accretion rate of the source, with the inferred Eddington ratio of $\sim 0.4$. The MgII line luminosity of HE 0413-4031 responds to the continuum variability as $L_{\rm line}\propto L_{\rm cont}^{0.43\pm 0.10}$, which is consistent with the light-travel distance of the location of MgII emission at $R_{\rm out} \sim 10^{18}\,{\rm cm}$. Using the data of 10 other quasars, we confirm the radius-luminosity relation for broad MgII line, which was previously determined for broad H$\beta$ line for lower-redshift sources. In addition, we detect a general departure of higher-accreting quasars from this relation in analogy to H$\beta$ sample. We present the analysis of microlensing event OGLE-2006-BLG-284, which has a lens system that consists of two stars and a gas giant planet with a mass ratio of $q_p = (1.26\pm 0.19) \times 10^{-3}$ to the primary. The mass ratio of the two stars is $q_s = 0.289\pm 0.011$, and their projected separation is $s_s = 2.1\pm 0.7\,$AU, while the projected separation of the planet from the primary is $s_p = 2.2\pm 0.8\,$AU. For this lens system to have stable orbits, the three-dimensional separation of either the primary and secondary stars or the planet and primary star must be much larger than that these projected separations. Since we do not know which is the case, the system could include either a circumbinary or a circumstellar planet. Because there is no measurement of the microlensing parallax effect or lens system brightness, we can only make a rough Bayesian estimate of the lens system masses and brightness. We find host star and planet masses of $M_{L1} = 0.35^{+0.30}_{-0.20}\,M_\odot$, $M_{L2} = 0.10^{+0.09}_{-0.06}\,M_\odot$, and $m_p = 144^{+126}_{-82}\,M_\oplus$, and the $K$-band magnitude of the combined brightness of the host stars is $K_L = 19.7^{+0.7}_{-1.0}$. The separation between the lens and source system will be $\sim 90\,$mas in mid-2020, so it should be possible to detect the host system with follow-up adaptive optics or Hubble Space Telescope observations.

Swift J004427.3-734801 is an X-ray source in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) that was first discovered as part of the Swift S-CUBED programme in January 2020. It was not detected in any of the previous 3 years worth of observations. The accurate positional determination from the X-ray data have permitted an optical counterpart to be identified which has the characteristics of an O9V-B2III star. Evidence for the presence of an IR excess and significant I-band variability strongly suggest that this is an OBe type star. Over 17 years worth of optical monitoring by the OGLE project reveal periods of time in which quasi-periodic optical flares occur at intervals of ~21.5d. The X-ray data obtained from the S-CUBED project reveal a very soft spectrum, too soft to be that from accretion on to a neutron star or black hole. We report the discovery and analysis of the planetary microlensing event OGLE-2017-BLG-0406, which was observed both from the ground and by the ${\it Spitzer}$ satellite in a solar orbit. At high magnification, the anomaly in the light curve was densely observed by ground-based-survey and follow-up groups, and it was found to be explained by a planetary lens with a planet/host mass ratio of $q=7.0 \times 10^{-4}$ from the light-curve modeling. The ground-only and ${\it Spitzer}$-"only" data each provide very strong one-dimensional (1-D) constraints on the 2-D microlens parallax vector $\bf{\pi_{\rm E}}$. When combined, these yield a precise measurement of $\bf{\pi_{\rm E}}$, and so of the masses of the host $M_{\rm host}=0.56\pm0.07\,M_\odot$ and planet $M_{\rm planet} = 0.41 \pm 0.05\,M_{\rm Jup}$. The system lies at a distance $D_{\rm L}=5.2 \pm 0.5 \ {\rm kpc}$ from the Sun toward the Galactic bulge, and the host is more likely to be a disk population star according to the kinematics of the lens. The projected separation of the planet from the host is $a_{\perp} = 3.5 \pm 0.3 \ {\rm au}$, i.e., just over twice the snow line. The Galactic-disk kinematics are established in part from a precise measurement of the source proper motion based on OGLE-IV data. Searches for gravitational microlensing events are traditionally concentrated on the central regions of the Galactic bulge but many microlensing events are expected to occur in the Galactic plane, far from the Galactic Center. Owing to the difficulty in conducting high-cadence observations of the Galactic plane over its vast area, which are necessary for the detection of microlensing events, their global properties were hitherto unknown. We report the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2018-BLG-0677. A small feature in the light curve of the event leads to the discovery that the lens is a star-planet system. Although there are two degenerate solutions that could not be distinguished for this event, both lead to a similar planet-host mass ratio. We perform a Bayesian analysis based on a Galactic model to obtain the properties of the system and find that the planet corresponds to a super-Earth/sub-Neptune with a mass $M_{\mathrm{planet}} = {3.96}^{+5.88}_{-2.66}\mathrm{M_\oplus}$. The host star has a mass $ M_{\mathrm{host}} = {0.12}^{+0.14}_{-0.08}\mathrm{M_\odot}$. The projected separation for the inner and outer solutions are ${0.63}^{+0.20}_{-0.17}$~AU and ${0.72}^{+0.23}_{-0.19}$~AU respectively. At $\Delta\chi^2=\chi^2({\rm 1L1S})-\chi^2({\rm 2L1S})=46$, this is by far the lowest $\Delta\chi^2$ for any securely-detected microlensing planet to date, a feature that is closely connected to the fact that it is detected primarily via a "dip" rather than a "bump"., Comment: 15 page, 12 figures, Published in AJ

We analyze KMT-2019-BLG-1339, a microlensing event with an obvious but incompletely resolved brief anomaly feature around the peak of the light curve. Although the origin of the anomaly is identified to be a companion to the lens with a low mass ratio $q$, the interpretation is subject to two different degeneracy types. The first type is the ambiguity in $\rho$, representing the angular source radius scaled to the angular radius of the Einstein ring, $\theta_{\rm E}$, and the other is the $s\leftrightarrow s^{-1}$ degeneracy. The former type, `finite-source degeneracy', causes ambiguities in both $s$ and $q$, while the latter induces an ambiguity only in $s$. Here $s$ denotes the separation (in units of $\theta_{\rm E}$) in projection between the lens components. We estimate that the lens components have masses $(M_1, M_2)\sim (0.27^{+0.36}_{-0.15}~M_\odot, 11^{+16}_{-7}~M_{\rm J})$ and $\sim (0.48^{+0.40}_{-0.28}~M_\odot, 1.3^{+1.1}_{-0.7}~M_{\rm J})$ according to the two solutions subject to the finite-source degeneracy, indicating that the lens comprises an M dwarf and a companion with a mass around the planet/brown dwarf boundary or a Jovian-mass planet. It is possible to lift the finite-source degeneracy by conducting future observations utilizing a high resolution instrument because the relative lens-source proper motion predicted by the solutions are widely different., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

High-cadence observations of the Galactic bulge by the microlensing surveys led to the discovery of a handful of extremely short-timescale microlensing events that can be attributed to free-floating or wide-orbit planets. Here, we report the discovery of another strong free-floating planet candidate, which was found from the analysis of the gravitational microlensing event OGLE-2019-BLG-0551. The light curve of the event is characterized by a very short duration (<3 d) and a very small amplitude (< 0.1 mag). From modeling of the light curve, we find that the Einstein timescale, tE = 0.381 +/- 0.017 d, is much shorter, and the angular Einstein radius, thetaE = 4.35 +/- 0.34 uas, is much smaller than those of typical lensing events produced by stellar-mass lenses (tE ~ 20 d, thetaE ~ 0.3 mas), indicating that the lens is very likely to be a planetary-mass object. We conduct an extensive search for possible signatures of a companion star in the light curve of the event, finding no significant evidence for the putative host star. For the first time, we also demonstrate that the angular Einstein radius of the lens does not depend on blending in the low-magnification events with strong finite source effects., Comment: accepted for publication in AJ, minor changes

RX J0209.6-7427 is an X-ray source in the Magellanic Bridge that was first detected in 1993, but not seen again till 2019. It has been identified as a member of the Be/X-ray binary class, a category of objects that are well established as bright, often-unpredictable transients. Such systems are rarely known in the Bridge, possibly because they lie outside the area most commonly studied by X-ray telescopes. Whatever the reason for the sparse number of such systems in the Bridge, they can provide useful tools for trying to understand the result of the tidal dynamics of the two Magellanic Clouds. In this paper the nature of the object is explored with the help of new data obtained during the latest outburst. In particular, the first optical spectrum of the counterpart is presented to help classify the star, plus measurements of the Balmer emission lines over several years are used to investigate changes in the size and structure of the circumstellar disk., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures. We use photometric and spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing binary E32 in the globular cluster 47 Tuc to derive the masses, radii, and luminosities of the component stars. The system has an orbital period of 40.9 d, a markedly eccentric orbit with e = 0.24, and is shown to be a member of or a recent escaper from the cluster. We obtain Mp = 0.862(5) Msun , Rp = 1.183(3) Rsun , Lp = 1.65(5) Lsun for the primary and Ms = 0.827(5) Msun , Rs = 1.004(4) Rsun , Ls = 1.14(4) Lsun for the secondary. Based on these data and on an earlier analysis of the binary V69 in 47 Tuc we measure the distance to the cluster from the distance moduli of the component stars, and, independently, from a color - surface brightness calibration. We obtain 4.55(3) and 4.50(7) kpc, respectively - values compatible within 1 sigma with recent estimates based on Gaia DR2 parallaxes. By comparing the M - R diagram of the two binaries and the color-magnitude diagram of 47 Tuc to Dartmouth model isochrones we estimate the age of the cluster to be 12.0 pm 0.5 Gyr, and the helium abundance of the cluster to be Y approx 0.25., Comment: Accepted by MNRAS

We present an upgrade of the OGLE Collection of RR Lyrae stars in the Galactic bulge and disk. The size of our sample has been doubled and reached 78 350 RR Lyr variables, of which 56 508 are fundamental-mode pulsators (RRab stars), 21 321 pulsate solely in the first-overtone (RRc stars), 458 are classical double-mode pulsators (RRd stars), and 63 are anomalous RRd variables (including five triple-mode pulsators). For all the newly identified RR Lyr stars, we publish time-series photometry obtained during the OGLE Galaxy Variability Survey. We present the spatial distribution of RR Lyr stars on the sky, provide a list of globular clusters hosting RR Lyr variables, and discuss the Petersen diagram for multimode pulsators. We find new RRd stars belonging to a compact group in the Petersen diagram (with period ratios P_1O/P_F = 0.74 and fundamental-mode periods P_F = 0.44 d) and we show that their spatial distribution is roughly spherically symmetrical around the Milky Way center., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures

We present an updated three dimensional map of the Milky Way based on a sample of 2431 classical Cepheid variable stars, supplemented with about 200 newly detected classical Cepheids from the OGLE survey. The new objects were discovered as a result of a dedicated observing campaign of the ~280 square degree extension of the OGLE footprint of the Galactic disk during 2018-2019 observing seasons. These regions cover the main part of the northern Galactic warp that has been deficient in Cepheids so far. We use direct distances to the sample of over 2390 classical Cepheids to model the distribution of the young stellar population in the Milky Way and recalculate the parameters of the Galactic disk warp. Our data show that its northern part is very prominent and its amplitude is ~10% larger than that of the southern part. By combining Gaia astrometric data with the Galactic rotation curve and distances to Cepheids from our sample, we construct a map of the vertical component of the velocity vector for all Cepheids in the Milky Way disk. We find large-scale vertical motions with amplitudes of 10-20 km/s, such that Cepheids located in the northern warp exhibit large positive vertical velocity (toward the north Galactic pole), whereas those in the southern warp - negative vertical velocity (toward the south Galactic pole)., Comment: This version is updated with a kinematical analysis of the Galactic warp using Gaia astrometric data

We present the analysis of the binary-lens microlensing event OGLE-2013-BLG-0911. The best-fit solutions indicate the binary mass ratio of q~0.03 which differs from that reported in Shvartzvald+2016. The event suffers from the well-known close/wide degeneracy, resulting in two groups of solutions for the projected separation normalized by the Einstein radius of s~0.15 or s~7. The finite source and the parallax observations allow us to measure the lens physical parameters. The lens system is an M-dwarf orbited by a massive Jupiter companion at very close (M_{host}=0.30^{+0.08}_{-0.06} M_{Sun}, M_{comp}=10.1^{+2.9}_{-2.2} M_{Jup}, a_{exp}=0.40^{+0.05}_{-0.04} au) or wide (M_{host}=0.28^{+0.10}_{-0.08} M_{Sun}, M_{comp}=9.9^{+3.8}_{-3.5}M_{Jup}, a_{exp}=18.0^{+3.2}_{-3.2} au) separation. Although the mass ratio is slightly above the planet-brown dwarf (BD) mass-ratio boundary of q=0.03 which is generally used, the median physical mass of the companion is slightly below the planet-BD mass boundary of 13M_{Jup}. It is likely that the formation mechanisms for BDs and planets are different and the objects near the boundaries could have been formed by either mechanism. It is important to probe the distribution of such companions with masses of ~13M_{Jup} in order to statistically constrain the formation theories for both BDs and massive planets. FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) are young low-mass stars undergoing powerful accretion outbursts. The increased accretion is often accompanied by collimated jets and energetic, large-scale molecular outflows. The extra heating during the outburst may also induce detectable geometrical, chemical, and mineralogical changes in the circumstellar material, affecting possible planet formation around these objects. V346 Nor is a southern FUor with peculiar spectral characteristics. Decades after the beginning of its outburst, it unexpectedly underwent a fading event around 2010 due to a decrease in the mass accretion rate onto the star by at least two orders of magnitude. Here we present optical and near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy obtained after the minimum. Our light curves show a gradual re-brightening of V346 Nor, with its Ks-band brightness only 1.5 mag below the outburst brightness level. Our VLT/XSHOOTER spectroscopic observations display several strong forbidden emission lines towards the source from various metals and molecular hydrogen, suggesting the launch of a new jet. Our N-band spectrum obtained with VLT/VISIR outlines a deeper silicate absorption feature than before, indicating that the geometry of the circumstellar medium has changed in the post-outburst period compared to peak brightness., Comment: 22 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal

We report the discovery of a cold planet with a very low planet/host mass ratio of $q=(4.09\pm0.27) \times 10^{-5}$, which is similar to the ratio of Uranus/Sun ($q=4.37 \times 10^{-5}$) in the Solar system. The Bayesian estimates for the host mass, planet mass, system distance, and planet-host projected separation are $M_{\rm host}=0.76\pm 0.40 M_\odot$, $M_{\rm planet}=10.3\pm 5.5 M_\oplus$, $D_{\rm L} = 3.3\pm1.3\,{\rm kpc}$, and $a_\perp = 3.3\pm 1.4\,{\rm au}$, respectively. The consistency of the color and brightness expected from the estimated lens mass and distance with those of the blend suggests the possibility that the most blended light comes from the planet host, and this hypothesis can be established if high resolution images are taken during the next (2020) bulge season. We present the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2016-BLG-1227. The light curve of this short-duration event appears to be a single-lens event affected by severe finite-source effects. Analysis of the light curve based on single-lens single-source (1L1S) modeling yields very small values of the event timescale, $t_{\rm E}\sim 3.5$ days, and the angular Einstein radius, $\theta_{\rm E}\sim 0.009$ mas, making the lens a candidate of a free-floating planet. Close inspection reveals that the 1L1S solution leaves small residuals with amplitude $\Delta I\lesssim 0.03$ mag. We find that the residuals are explained by the existence of an additional widely-separated heavier lens component, indicating that the lens is a wide-separation planetary system rather than a free-floating planet. From Bayesian analysis, it is estimated that the planet has a mass of $M_{\rm p} = 0.79^{+1.30}_{-0.39} M_{\rm J}$ and it is orbiting a low-mass host star with a mass of $M_{\rm host}=0.10^{+0.17}_{-0.05} M_\odot$ located with a projected separation of $a_\perp=3.4^{+2.1}_{-1.0}$ au. The planetary system is located in the Galactic bulge with a line-of-sight separation from the source star of $D_{\rm LS}=1.21^{+0.96}_{-0.63}$ kpc. The event shows that there are a range of deviations in the signatures of host stars for apparently isolated planetary lensing events and that it is possible to identify a host even when a deviation is subtle., Comment: 8 figures, 4 tables

We report the discovery and the analysis of the short (tE < 5 days) planetary microlensing event, OGLE-2015-BLG-1771. The event was discovered by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE), and the planetary anomaly (at I ~ 19) was captured by The Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). The event has three surviving planetary models that explain the observed light curves, with planet-host mass ratio q \~ 5.4 * 10^{-3}, 4.5 * 10^{-3} and 4.5 * 10^{-2}, respectively. The first model is the best-fit model, while the second model is disfavored by \Delta\chi^2 ~ 3. The last model is strongly disfavored by \Delta\chi^2 ~ 15 but not ruled out. A Bayesian analysis using a Galactic model indicates that the first two models are probably composed of a Saturn-mass planet orbiting a late M dwarf, while the third one could consist of a super-Jovian planet and a mid-mass brown dwarf. The source-lens relative proper motion is mu_rel ~ 9 mas/yr, so the source and lens could be resolved by current adaptive-optics (AO) instruments in 2021 if the lens is luminous., Comment: 7 figures and 3 tables; submitted to AAS Journal

Fourteen years after its eruption as a classical nova (CN), V1047 Cen (Nova Cen 2005) began an unusual re-brightening in 2019 April. The amplitude of the brightening suggests that this is a dwarf nova (DN) eruption in a CN system. Very few CNe have had DN eruptions within decades of the main CN outburst. The 14 years separating the CN and DN eruptions of V1047 Cen is the shortest of all instances recorded thus far. Explaining this rapid succession of CN and DN outbursts in V1047 Cen may be challenging within the framework of standard theories for DN outbursts. Following a CN eruption, the mass accretion rate is believed to remain high $(\dot{M}\sim10^{-8}$M$_\odot$yr$^{-1})$ for a few centuries, due to the irradiation of the secondary star by the still-hot surface of the white dwarf. Thus a DN eruption is not expected to occur during this high mass accretion phase as DN outbursts, which result from thermal instabilities in the accretion disk, and arise during a regime of low mass accretion rate $(\dot{M}\sim10^{-10}$M$_\odot$yr$^{-1})$. Here we present near-infrared spectroscopy to show that the present outburst is most likely a DN eruption, and discuss the possible reasons for its early occurrence. Even if the present re-brightening is later shown to be due to a cause other than a DN outburst, the present study provides invaluable documentation of this unusual event., Comment: Astrophysical Journal Letters, in press. Short-timescale microlensing events are likely to be produced by substellar brown dwarfs (BDs), but it is difficult to securely identify BD lenses based on only event timescales $t_{\rm E}$ because short-timescale events can also be produced by stellar lenses with high relative lens-source proper motions. In this paper, we report three strong candidate BD-lens events found from the search for lensing events not only with short timescales ($t_{\rm E} \lesssim 6~{\rm days}$) but also with very small angular Einstein radii ($\theta_{\rm E}\lesssim 0.05~{\rm mas}$) among the events that have been found in the 2016--2019 observing seasons. These events include MOA-2017-BLG-147, MOA-2017-BLG-241, and MOA-2019-BLG-256, in which the first two events are produced by single lenses and the last event is produced by a binary lens. From the Bayesian analysis conducted with the combined $t_{\rm E}$ and $\theta_{\rm E}$ constraint, it is estimated that the lens masses of the individual events are $0.051^{+0.100}_{-0.027}~M_\odot$, $0.044^{+0.090}_{-0.023}~M_\odot$, and $0.046^{+0.067}_{-0.023}~M_\odot/0.038^{+0.056}_{-0.019}~M_\odot$ and the probability of the lens mass smaller than the lower limit of stars is $\sim 80\%$ for all events.
