SummaryIn the present paper Yunotrechus diannanensis n. gen., n. sp. is described and illustrated from two limestone caves which are close to each other in Wenshan and Maguan counties of southern Yunnan Province, southwestern China. Yunotrechus is an anophthalmoid, not directly related to any hypogean trechine genera hitherto known in Yunnan or in southeastern Asian countries because all of them are aphaenopsoids, with elongated prothorax and tumid propleura. The phylogenetic position of Yunotrechus within Trechinae in China or southeastern Asia remains unclear, although it may be related to Superbotrechus Deuve & Tian 2009, which was recorded from western Hubei Province, central China, and Sichuanotrechus Deuve 2006, which was recorded from northern Sichuan Province, southwestern China. Y. diannanensis n. sp. is the first troglobitic trechine beetle discovered in a tropical area of China.

Libotrechus duanensis Lin and Tian, new species, the second species of the cavernicolous carabid genus Libotrechus Ueno, 1998, is described from a limestone cave in Du'an Xian of northern Guangxi province in southern China. Based on the morphological character states of L. duanensis, several supplemental diagnostic characters for the genus Libotrechus are noted. In addition, new distributional records of Libotrechus nishikawai Ueno, 1998 in the Mulun Karst of northernmost Guangxi, together with a distributional map for the genus, is provided.

A new species of Anillinus Casey, 1918, is described from the Oak Ridge area, Roane County, Tennessee, in the eastern United States. Based on the presence of two patches with effaced microsculpture on the vertex, Anillinus inexpectatus, new species, belongs to the Anillinus loweae-group of species. Within this group, a patch of long setae on the ventral margin of the median lobe of the aedeagus places the new species close to Anillinus steevesi Barr, 1996. Modifications to a previous key for the A. loweae-group species are provided for identification of the new species, and zoogeographical considerations and biogeographical barriers for the A. loweae-group species are discussed.

A new eyeless species, Oodinotrechus liyoubangi n. sp, is described from northern Guangxi. All specimens of this interesting species were collected in three limestone caves in Mulun National Nature Reserve of northern Guangxi, southern China. It is the second species for the genus Oodinotrechus Ueno, 1998, distinguished from the type species O. kishimotoi Ueno, 1998 by its visible scutellum and pronotal structure. Three new troglobitic trechine ground beetle species are described from three caves in eastern and southeastern Serbia: Duvalius (Paraduvalius) bogovinae sp. n., from the Bogovinska Pećina Cave, village of Bogovina, Kučajske Planine Mts., near Boljevac, eastern Serbia; D. (P.) milutini sp. n., from the Samar cave system, village of Kopajkošara, Mt. Kalafat, near Svrljig, southeastern Serbia, and D. (P.) beljanicae sp. n., from the Velika Atula Cave, village of Strmosten, Mt. Beljanica, near Despotovac, eastern Serbia. The new species are easily distinguished from relatives. All important morphological features, along with the diagnoses and illustrations of the new taxa are presented. The new species are relicts and endemics of eastern and southeastern Serbia. The following two new troglobitic trechine ground beetle species are described from two caves in eastern and southeastern Serbia: Duvalius (Paraduvalius) petrovici sp. n., from the Resavska Pećina Cave, village of Jelovac, near Despotovac, Kučajske Planine Mts., and D. (P.) sotirovi sp. n., from the Ogorelička Pećina Cave, village of Sićevo, near Niš, Svrljiške Planine Mts. The new species considerably differ from the related taxa. All important morphological characteristics of the species, along with the diagnoses and images of the taxa are presented. Two new genera and species of cave-dwelling carabid trechines are described and illustrated from China. Luoxiaotrechus deuvein. gen., n.sp. occurs in a limestone cave called Haitang Dong in eastern You Xian ( = County) of eastern Hunan Province, not far from the border with Jiangxi Province. Luoxiaotrechusn. gen. is morphologically close to Qianaphaenops Ueno, 2000. Sidublemus solidusn. gen., n. sp. lives in a limestone cave called Bidongfeiyan in southwestern of Guidong Xian, southeastern Hunan. A new species of Trechus from the Oromia Province (Ethiopia) is described in the present note. This new taxon shows some peculiar characters, such as a much swollen abdomen of pseudophysiogastric aspect, a feature shared by other high altitude Trechinae, as for instance Queinnectrechus Deuve, 1992 from Asia. The integuments are glabrous; the antennae are short; the pronotum is larger than long, with regularly rounded sides and hind angles; the elytrae are short and rounded (pseudophysiogastric) with the first six striae well engraved, on the third of them two discal foveolate setae are well visible. The aedeagus is big and stout, abruptly narrowing at the tip (in lateral view), with a small botton slanting upwards; the copulatory piece is big and well sclerified, triangular, with a more or less sharpened tip. Integration of molecular genetic techniques and geometric morphometrics represent a valuable tool in the resolution of taxonomic uncertainty and the identification of significant units for conservation. We combined mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit II gene sequence data and geometric morphometric analysis to examine taxonomic status and identify units for conservation in four species of the hypogean beetle Duvalius (Coleoptera, Trechinae) using mainly museum specimens collected in central Italy. Previous taxonomic studies based on morphological traits described several subspecies often inhabiting geographically distinct caves. Phylogenetic analysis identified two well supported monophyletic lineages and a number of different clades with relatively small genetic differences, suggesting a short divergence time in line with known geological history of the study area. Geometric morphometrics, on the other hand, recovered a high level of distinctiveness among specimens. Both genetic and morphometric analyses did not entirely corroborate former taxonomic nomenclature, suggesting possible rearrangements and the definition of evolutionary significant units. Beetles of the genus Duvalius are protected by regional laws and the majority of taxa considered in this study inhabit caves located outside protected areas. Our study advocates the importance of devoting protection efforts to networks of cave ecosystems rather than single locations or species.

This paper overviews more than 39 families of fossil Coleoptera from Lower Cretaceous Lebanese amber from nine outcrops. Lebanese amber contains the oldest representatives of the families Scydmaenidae (considered by some as a subfamily of Staphylinidae), Ptiliidae, Elodophalmidae, Clambidae, Throscidae, Lebanophytidae fam. n., Ptilodactylidae, Cantharidae, Melyridae, Dasytidae, Dermestidae, Ptinidae, Kateretidae, Erotylidae, Latridiidae, Laemophloeidae, Salpingidae, Anthicidae, Melandryidae, Aderidae, Curculionidae (Scolytinae). The families Chelonariidae and Scraptiidae are known from both Lebanese amber and Baissa, with both sites having a comparable age. The subfamilies Trechinae (Carabidae), Euaesthetinae (Staphylinidae) and Liparochrinae (Hybosoridae) first appear in the fossil record in Lebanese amber. Five new species of anilline ground beetles are described from Alabama. Two species, Anillinus kingi, new species, and Anillinus davidsoni, new species, are litter and endogean species, respectively, from Blount Mountain Ridge (St. Clair County). Anillinus cavicola, new species, and Anillinus tombarri, new species, are troglobitic species from caves in Marshall County and the limestone belt of the Wills Creek Anticline (De Kalb County), respectively. Anillinus tombarri, at 3 mm length, is the largest representative of the genus known to science. Anillinus hirsutus , new species (Keel Mountain, Madison/Jackson Counties) is unique within the genus because of peculiarities of ventral vestiture not documented in other Anillinus species. We investigated the taxonomic implications of two species of the anilline carabid genus Anillinus Casey described from Brazil, Anillinus minor Zaballos and Mateu and Anillinus magnus Zaballos and Mateu. Comparison of the aedeagus of A. minor to those of North American representatives of the genus led to the conclusion that A. minor should be placed in synonymy with A. steevesi Barr, new synonym, from the southeastern United States. Morphological details of the aedeagus of A. minor suggest affinities with the southern populations of A. steevesi from Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Anillinus magnus is transferred to the North American genus Serranillus Barr, as Serranillus magnus (Zaballos and Mateu), new combination. Evaluation of the possible common origins of the two species represented by the Brazil-labeled specimens suggested that they were originally collected in northwestern Georgia, USA and subsequently mislabeled and described as “Brazilian” species. A new genus (Punctoduvalius gen. n.) and a species of trechine ground beetles (Punctoduvalius orlovacensis sp. n.) from Bosnia and Herzegovina have been described and diagnosed. Punctoduvalius gen. n. is clearly distinct from all other phenetically close genera in many important respects, such as: the presence of depigmented reduced eyes, the presence of a pigmented eye border, the presence of deep and complete frontal furrows, the presence of tiny setae on the genae, the presence of distinct longitudinal fissures on the protibias, the ratio of length/width of the first protarsal article in males, the presence of two elytral discal setae, the presence of numerous setiferous punctures in interstrial spaces, the specific position of the humeral setae, and the specific shape of the copulatory piece. This new genus comprises four species: Punctoduvalius pilifer (Ganglbauer, 1891) (endogean from Mts. Treskavica and Bjelasnica, and from a cave on Mt. Visocica, Bosnia and Herzegovina), P. protectus (Winkler, 1926) (from the Pecina kod Ostojica Cave, Mt. Treskavica, and endogean from Mt. Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina), P. brevipilosus (Knirsch, 1927) (endogean from Lupoglav Peak, Mt. Prenj, Bosnia and Herzegovina), and P. orlovacensis sp. n. (from the Orlovaca Cave, village of Donje Bisevo, near Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina). The four species clearly differ in many important respects. The following three taxonomic changes are proposed: Punctoduvalius pilifer (Ganglbauer, 1891), comb. n., P. protectus (Winkler, 1926), comb. n., and P. brevipilosus (Knirsch, 1927), comb. n. The new genus and its members belong to an old separate phyletic lineage, distinct from all other existing species groups. Additionally, these forms are relict and endemic to the deep soil and caves of Bosnia and Herzegovina. [Acknowledgments. We present a study of the eastern group of species of the genus Geotrechus (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Trechini), combining molecular and morphological approaches. Four new species are described from caves of the Pyrenees of Catalonia, Spain. Two of the new species belong to the Geotrechus ubachi group sensu novo, like all the species previously known. A new group, the Geotrechus delioti group, is proposed for two new species merged until now with Geotrechus seijasi Español. The molecular study is based on a combination of fragments of four mitochondrial and two nuclear genes. We discuss the distribution of the group and provide a potential scenario of diversification, favouring the hypothesis of allopatric speciation for this old and speciose group of Pyrenean microendemic biota., The specimen of Geotrechus seijasi used for the molecular part of the work (MZB 2014-2433) was collected during a campaign of the project “Actuacions de seguiment de les poblacions d’invertebrats protegits cavernícoles” of the MZB and funded by the “Direcció General del Medi Natural i Biodiversitat”, Generalitat de Catalunya, 2014. A new subgenus and new species of anophthalmic trechine beetles, Oodinotrechus (Pingleotrechus) yinae subgen. n., sp. n., is described and illustrated from a limestone cave called Chaotianyan in southern part of Guilin karst, northeastern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The new taxon is very different from the Maolan-Mulun congeners belonging to the nominate subgenus Oodinotrechus (s. str.) Uéno, 1998, in several important character states including pronotal structure, elytral chaetotaxy and male genitalia. It is the first record of a cavernicolous trechine beetle in Guilin karst, and in the eastern part of Guangxi. In addition, a distribution map for the genus Oodinotrechus Uéno, 1998, is provided.

A new species of Bembidion (Trichoplataphus Netolitzky) from the Ozark Plateau of Missouri and Arkansas is described (Bembidion ozarkense Maddison and Hildebrandt). It is distinguishable from the closely related species, B. rolandi Fall, by characteristics of the male genitalia, and sequences of the genes cytochrome oxidase I and 28S ribosomal DNA. A brief review of the North American species of Trichoplataphus is presented, including a key to species.

Paralovricia gen. n. beroni sp. n., belonging to the new subtribe Lovriciina, is described from two caves in the Western Rhodopes (Bulgaria): Kraypatnata peshtera, near Smilyan Village (Smolyan Municipality) and Snezhanka, near Peshtera Town (Peshtera Municipality). Three currently known genera, Lovricia Pretner, 1979, Neolovricia Lakota, Jalžić & Moravec, 2009 and Paralovricia gen. n. represent a monophyletic unit supported by important synapomorphies that allows to propose the establishment of the new subtribe Lovriciina, characterized by the following characters: last maxillary palpomeres very long and narrow, basal angles of pronotum without seta, elytra without discal setae, elytral umbilicate series of nine pores in which the main pores are the 2nd, 6th and 9th, apical recurrent striole absent and mesotibial apex expanded outward. Its systematic position within the subfamily Trechinae (sensu Lorenz 2005) is discussed and Lovriciina is placed near Anillina. Key to the genera of the subtribe is proposed. Distribution data and zoogeographical hypotheses are discussed.

A historical review of the study of genus Typhlocharis and a synthesis of current knowledge are carried out, providing a historical context for the description of a new species in the province of Alicante (Spain). Relevant data on the biotic and abiotic environment where the species lives are also provided. With regard to its taxonomic position, it is affiliated with the Typhlocharis monastica group, although it is necessary to redefine that group. The most plausible hypothesis for the unusual presence of unguiform gonocoxites in the genus Typhlocharis and the implications for the systematics of the group are discussed. Finally, a dispersal mechanism for Typhlocharis that would explain its wide distribution in the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa is proposed.

Trechini ground beetles include some of the most spectacular radiations of cave and endogean Coleoptera, but the origin of the subterranean taxa and their typical morphological adaptations (loss of eyes and wings, depigmentation, elongation of body and appendages) have never been studied in a formal phylogenetic framework. We provide here a molecular phylogeny of the Pyrenean subterranean Trechini based on a combination of mitochondrial (cox1, cyb, rrnL, tRNA-Leu, nad1) and nuclear (SSU, LSU) markers of 102 specimens of 90 species. We found all Pyrenean highly modified subterranean taxa to be monophyletic, to the exclusion of all epigean and all subterranean species from other geographical areas (Cantabrian and Iberian mountains, Alps). Within the Pyrenean subterranean clade the three genera (Geotrechus, Aphaenops and Hydraphaenops) were polyphyletic, indicating multiple origins of their special adaptations to different ways of life (endogean, troglobitic or living in deep fissures). Diversification followed a geographical pattern, with two main clades in the western and central-eastern Pyrenees respectively, and several smaller lineages of more restricted range. Based on a Bayesian relaxed-clock approach, and using as an approximation a standard mitochondrial mutation rate of 2.3% MY, we estimate the origin of the subterranean clade at ca. 10 MY. Bembidion (Archaeophilochthus) christelae a new subgenus and species belonging to the tribe Bembidiini (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Trechinae) preserved in a piece of Baltic amber (Eocene) is described. A comparison with recent fauna is made, and paleobiology of the species is hypothetized.

Carabid (Coleoptera: Carabidae) specimens from various environs in Turkey were examined. Eighty-one species/subspecies representing 20 genera in 9 subfamilies were identified. The subfamilies represented were Brachininae (5 species/subspecies), Broscinae (1 species), Carabinae (24 species/subspecies), Elaphrinae (1 species), Nebriinae (6 species/subspecies), Omophorninae (1 species), Paussinae (1 species), Scartinae (5 species/subspecies), and Trechinae (37 species/subspecies). All but a few of these species/subspecies are new records of distribution in several Turkish provinces. Furthermore, identification of Bembidion (Be-mbidionetolitzkya) cyaneum Chaudoir, 1846 and Bembidion (Bembidionetolitzkya) coeruleum Audinet-Serville, 1821 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Trechinae) are the first recorded occurrences of these species in Turkey. Previously published records from Turkey, geographical distribution and chorotype information are provided for each species.

Two new cave-dwelling ground beetle species, Trechus gamae sp. n. and Trechus lunai sp. n., from Portugal, are described. The new species are included in the Trechus fulvus-group by their morphological characters. The work provides diagnostic characters in particular those of the structure of male genitalia, and the distribution of the hypogean species of the fulvus-group at the Estremenho Karstic Massif is mapped. Some comments on the seasonal activity of T. gamae sp. n. are also given. An identification key to the males of the T. fulvus-group species from the Estremenho Karstic Massif is presented, and biogeographical comments are also included.

Two new ground beetle species of the genus Tachyura Motschulsky from Egypt are described and illustrated. Tachyura akkadi n. sp. is based on a specimen preserved in the insect collection of the Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt; while T. fadli n. sp. is based on specimens collected from Salouga Island Protectorate at Aswan. T. akkadi and T. fadli are closely related to T. amabilis ornatus (Apetz, 1854) and to T. sudanensis Schatzmayr & Koch, 1934, respectively.

A new species of endogeous Trechinae from western Pyrenees (Coleoptera, Carabidae). Aphaenops (Geaphaenops) cissauguensis n. sp., new species of hypogean Trechinae collected in a pit of the western Pyrenees is described. We studied species richness patterns of obligate subterranean (troglobiotic) beetles in the Dinaric karst of the western Balkans, using five grid sizes with cells of 80 x 80, 40 x 40, 20 x 20, 10 x 10, and 5 × 5 km. The same two hotspots could be recognized at all scales, although details differed. Differences in sampling intensity were not sufficient to explain these patterns. Correlations between number of species and number of sampled localities increased with increasing cell size. Additional species are expected to be found in the region, as indicated by jackknife 1, jackknife 2, Chao2, bootstrap, and incidence-based coverage (ICE) species richness estimators. All estimates increased with increasing cell size, except Chao2, with the lowest prediction at the intermediate 20 x 20 km cell size. Jackknife 2 and ICE gave highest estimates and jackknife 1 and bootstrap the lowest. Jackknife 1 and bootstrap estimates changed least with cell size, while the number of single cell species increased. In the highly endemic subterranean fauna with many rare species, bootstrap may be most appropriate to consider. Positive autocorrelation of species numbers was highest at 20 x 20 km scale, so we used this cell size for further analyses. At this scale we added 137 localities with less positional accuracy to 1572 previously considered, and increased 254 troglobiotic species considered to 276. Previously discovered hotspots and their positions did not change, except for a new species-rich cell which appeared in the south-eastern region. There are two centres of troglobiotic species richness in the Dinaric karst. The one in the north-west exhibited high species richness of Trechinae (Carabidae), while in the south-east, the Leptodirinae (Cholevidae) were much more diverse. These centres of species richness should serve as the starting point for establishing a conservation network of important subterranean areas in Dinaric karst.

The Anillinus langdoni–species group is characterized and two new species are described, Anillinus cieglerae Sokolov and Carlton sp. nov. and A. pusillus Sokolov and Carlton sp. nov., both from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The langdoni–group includes four species at present, three apparently endemic to the Great Smoky Mountains and adjacent mountains of western North Carolina/Tennessee, and a fourth from South Mountains of middle North Carolina. They are distinguished mainly using characters of the male genitalia and to a lesser extent, differences in shapes of female spermathecae. Phylogenetic analyses based on aedeagal morphology and COI gene sequences yielded conflicting results, with the later providing a phylogeny that was more parsimonious with expectations based on geographic distributions. Speciation within the group may derive from ecological constraints and altitudinal fluctuations of habitat corridors during past climate changes combined with the impact of local watersheds as fine scale isolating mechanisms.

A new species of cave-dwelling beetle from the pyrenean massif, Aphaenops (Cerbaphaenops) jauzioni n. sp. (Coleoptera: Carabidae), is described. Geometric morphometric analyses based on five morphological structures and comparisons with two populations of the closely related species Aphaenops (Cerbaphaenops) cerberus Dieck 1869 support the uniqueness of the new species. The specific status of the new taxon is also confirmed by the male genitalia structures. A putative scenario of population isolation is proposed.

Recent discoveries reveal that southern China’s karsts hold the most diverse and morphologically modified subterranean trechine beetles in the world, albeit the first troglobitic blind beetle was only reported in the early 1990’s. In total, 110 species belonging to 43 genera of cavernicolous trechines have hitherto been recorded from the karsts of southern China, including the following five new genera proposed below: Shiqianaphaenops Tian, gen. n., to contain two species: Shiqianaphaenops majusculus (Uéno, 1999) (= Shenaphaenops majusculus Uéno, 1999, comb. n.), the type species from Cave Feng Dong, Shiqian, Guizhou, and Shiqianaphaenops cursor (Uéno, 1999) (= Shenaphaenops cursor Uéno, 1999, comb. n.), from Cave Shenxian Dong, Shiqian, Guizhou; and the monotypic Dianotrechus Tian, gen. n. (the type species: Dianotrechus gueorguievi Tian, sp. n., from Cave Dashi Dong, Kunming, Yunnan), Tianeotrechus Tian & Tang, gen. n. (the type species: Tianeotrechus trisetosus Tian & Tang, sp. n., from Cave Bahao Dong, Tian’e County, Guangxi), Huoyanodytes Tian & Huang, gen. n. (the type species: Huoyanodytes tujiaphilus Tian & Huang, sp. n., from Longshan, Hunan) and Wanhuaphaenops Tian & Wang, gen. n. (the type species: Wanhuaphaenops zhangi Tian & Wang, sp. n., from Cave Songjia Dong, Chenzhou, Hunan).

Members of the Vietnamese carabid fauna are arranged and nomenclaturally revised. As the result, 178 species belonging to 74 genera of 12 subfamilies, Brachininae, Omophroninae, Carabinae, Scaritinae, Bembidiinae, Trechinae, Pterostichinae, Harpalinae, Callistinae, Oodinae, Odacanthinae, and Lebiinae, are recorded from Vietnam. Within these, four species, Abacetus leucocetes Bates, 1873, Ago-nom (Metacolpodes) buchanani Hope, 1831, Steno-lopus (Egadromd) difficilis (Hope, 1845), and Phe-ropsophus {Stenaptinus) beckeri Jedlicka, 1930 are newly recorded. A species checklist with taxonomie information, type localities and worldwide distribution are provided.

Three endogean carabids of the genus Geocharis Ehlers 1883 (Carabidae: Trechinae, Anillini) from Portugal, Geocharis coiffaiti n. sp., Geocharis sebastianae n. sp. and Geocharis rotundata n. sp., are described. The work provides diagnostic characters of these species, and in particular, the structure of male genitalia. Affinities with closely related species, as well as ecological and distribution comments are also included. A brief redescription and faunistic notes on Geocharis femoralis Coiffait 1968 and a key for the identification of the males of the species found south of the Tejo River in Portugal are also given.

Based on specimens captured in B-horizon calcareous soils the new species Typhlocharis gonzaloi sp. n. (type locality: La Heredad, Pego, Alicante Province, Spain) is described and its morphological features compared with the features of members of the T. diecki-group, to which it is assigned.

The subtribe Anillina in southeastern United States includes the genera Serranillus and Anillinus, both of which are endemic to the region.Serranillus contains two species, S. jeanneli Barr, the typespecies and S. dunavani (Jeannel), new combination, transferred from Anillinus. Both occur in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Anillinus contains 28 species, 11 previously described from southeastern U. S., east of the Mississippi River and the following 17 described here as new species: A. balli (SE. Kentucky), A. barri (E. Tennessee), A. cornelli (W. North Carolina, N. South Carolina), A. daggyi (North Carolina), A. docwatsoni (North Carolina), A. erwini (W. North Carolina), A. folkertsi (SW. Alabama), A. kovariki (N. Florida), A. langdoni (E. Tennessee), A. lescheni (E. Oklahoma), A. loweae (W. North and South Carolina, E. Tennessee), A. magazinensis (W. Arkansas), A. moseleyae (W. North Carolina, E. Tennessee), A. murrayae (W. North Carolina), A. robisoni (W. Arkansas),A. stephani (E. Oklahoma), andA. tishechkini (W. Arkansas). A neotype is designated for A. elongatus Jeannel. Species are arranged in groups on the basis of microsculpture and morphometric characters. Trends and correlations in general body form and proportions, microsculpture patterns, aedeagal morphology, and distributions are discussed.

Espanol, 1971 (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Trechinae, Trechini). - An important population of Trechus barratxinai Espanol, 1971 was discovered in the Penyes de Roset, near the type locality (abyss of Barratxina, Xixona-Alicante, East Spain). This species, originally considered as cavernicolous, shows epigeal and lapidicolous life habits, as now discovered. A detailed laboratory study revealed the presence of wings which had been overlooked in the concise description of the species. The development of wings confirms the suspicion that, as in other species in this genus, T. barratxinai has geophilic, lucifugous and hygrophilous habits but is not a cavernicolous (troglobiont) species. The species description is completed with details on the anatomy of the female genitalia. Also, the taxonomic position of T. barratxinai is questioned and its position within the "T. austriacus-group", near T. diecki Putzeys 1870, its geographical neighbour, is proposed. Finally, the first data on the species biology and on its habitat characteristics are given.

Anillinus alleni Sokolov and Carlton, new species, is described from the Ozark Mountain Interior Highlands (type locality: Blanchard Springs Recreation Area, Stone County, Arkansas, USA) based on four specimens collected using soil washing followed by Berlese extraction. The species is unique among anilline carabids in possessing extremely large, spinous projections on the male metafemora. It represents the second known anilline species occurring in the Ozark Highlands, both of which were collected using soil-washing techniques. Similarities with other species of Anillinus Casey are discussed, and ideas are presented about the potential adaptive significance of elements of external morphology in relation to subterranean habitats.

Uenotrechus Deuve et Tian, 1999, one of the highly cave-adapted genera of the ground beetles, is reviewed. New record of the type species U. liboensis Deuve et Tian, 1999 and descriptions and illustrations of two remarkable new species are provided: Uenotrechus gejianbangi Tian et Wei, sp. n. (type locality: Cave Ji Dong, Neiwen Tun, Huanjiang County, northernmost Guangxi), Uenotrechus deuvei Tian et Chen, sp. n. (type locality: Cave Longmu Dong I, Du’an County, northern Guangxi). U. nandanensis bona sp. is proposed as an independent species. A distribution map and a key to all species of Uenotrechus are also given.

Nine new Trechisibus species from South America (Peru and Patagonian Argentina) were recently described (Allegro & Giachino 2016). Five of them were based on material labelled “Argentina, Neuquen, Pen. Quetrihué” offered to the authors for study by its collector (Riccardo Sciaky). Shortly after publication, Martin Donabauer kindly communicated that a mistake probably had occurred, as they are five well known European Trechus species from Koralpe (Austria) living in low subalpine forests at 1200–1700 m a.s.l. As a subsequent control allowed us to ascertain that the collector had stayed in Koralpe collecting some material, a mistake evidently occurred in labelling, misleading a correct taxonomic interpretation of these species by the authors.

Recent cave biodiversity surveys carried out in Du’an County and its adjacent areas of northwestern Guangxi, China, have revealed some exciting scientific findings. In a very limited area seven new species of the cavernicolous trechine genus Dongodytes Deuve, 1993 were found and are described: Dongodytes (s. str.) elongatus sp. n., Dongodytes (s. str.) troglodytes sp. n., Dongodytes (s. str.) lani sp. n., Dongodytes (Dongodytodes) brevipenis sp. n., Dongodytes (Dongodytodes) jinzhuensis sp. n., Dongodytes (Dongodytodes) inexpectatus sp. n. and Dongodytes (Dongodytodes) yaophilus sp. n. Diagnoses and notes on the genus, subgenera, and two known species in Du’an Karst, Dongodytes (s. str.) baxian Tian, 2011 and Dongodytes (Dongodytodes) deharvengi Tian, 2011, are also given. A key to subgenera and all species of Dongodytes is provided. To date, Dongodytes becomes one of the richest in species genera of subterranean carabid trechines in China with 12 species which are arranged into two subgenera. Dongodytes (s. str.) Deuve is composed of seven species, four of which from Du’an County, each of other three from Bama, Fengshan and Tian’e Counties, respectively. All species of the subgenus Dongodytodes Tian, 2011 are recorded from Du’an Karst. By having 10 species (nine Dongodytes and one Libotrechus Uéno, 1998), Du’an Karst holds the richest specific diversity of cavernicolous Trechinae in China. Dongodytes species are distributed in a very limited area of the river Hongshui He drainages in northwestern Guangxi, and the river acts as a natural barrier of Dongodytes dispersal at only a specific level. However, all members of Dongodytodes are recorded from the eastern or northern bank of Hongshui He.

Tarsal tetramery is a rare condition within Carabidae, only found in some members of the endogean tribe Anillini and some cases of Gehringiini. Reduction of tarsomere numbers is also reported in endogean members of other families (e.g. Cur-culionidae or Staphylinidae). Recent fieldwork in southwestern Spain provided specimens of three new species of the en-dogean Anillini Typhlocharis Dieck, 1869: T. baeturica n.sp. , T. scrofa n.sp. and T. tetramera n.sp. The new species share extreme body size reduction (less than 1.1 mm), a gula partially fused to the cephalic capsule, with diffuse lateral sutures, and four tarsomeres in all the legs. Tarsal tetramery is recorded for the first time within the genus Typhlocharis and it is contrasted with the described cases in Anillini. Typhlocharis scrofa n.sp. and T. tetramera n.sp. have club-shaped gono-coxites, reminiscent of the unguiform-like morphology observed in T. quadridentata (Coiffait, 1969), supporting the hy-pothesis of a transitional evolution of the shape of gonocoxites. The structure of the gula is studied within the genus and includes wide, narrow and diffuse morphologies. The implications of these features and data from the new species enable us to propose a reorganization of the systematics of the genus, creating and defining a new group of species, quadridentata group . An identification key for this species group is included. The new species provides more data on syntopic species and abundance rates, brief insights on the ecology of the genus.

Two new species of Oxytrechus Jeannel 1927 are described from the páramos of the Ecuadorian Andes in Pichincha province (Ecuador: Northern Sierra): O. osellai n. sp. from Cangahua at 3375 m a.s.l. and O. belloi n. sp. from Paso de la Virgen at 3515 m a.s.l.

(Montenegro, Cetinje, Cetinjska pecina cave) and A. rumijaensis sp. nov. (Montenegro, Virpazar, Rumija Mts.). Lectotype for A. stirni (Pretner, 1959) is designated. Data on the distribution and ecology of new taxa, complemented with descriptions of the type localities are provided. Key to the identification of all twelve Adriaphaenops species, as well as a key of all hitherto known aphaenopsoid Trechini genera from Dinarides are also given.

A new anophtalmic genus, Balazucellus hubeicola n. gen., n. sp., is described from Hubei, having some affinities with Masuzonoblemus Uéno, 1989, and Duvalioblemus Deuve, 1995. A new species de Typhlocharis Dieck, 1869, of the Iberian península (Coleóptera, Carabidae, Trechinae). In this paper a new species from Madrid (central Spain), Typhlocharis bazi n.sp., is described. The new species is included among the " outereloi group" of species. Duvalius (sg. Neoduvalius) gejzadunayi sp. n. from Pećina uDubokom potoku cave ( Donje Biševo village near Rožaje, Montenegro), the first known representative of this subgenus from the territory of Montenegro is described, illustrated and compared with the related species of the subgenus Neoduvalius Müller, 1913. This new species is characterised by depigmented, medium sized body, totally reduced eyes, deep and complete frontal furrows, 3–4 pairs of discal setae in third elytral stria, as well as by the shape of aedeagus. Data on the distribution and the ecology of this remarkable species, as well as acheck-list of the subgenus Neoduvalius are also provided. Recently described genera Serboduvalius Ćurčić, S. B. Pavićević & Ćurčić, B.P.M., 2001, Rascioduvalius Ćurčić, S. B. Brajković, Mitić & Ćurčić, B.P.M., 2003, Javorella Ćurčić, S. B. Brajković, Ćurčić, B.P.M. & Mitić, 2003 and Curcicia Ćurčić, S. B. & Brajković, 2003 are regarded as junior synonyms of the genus Duvalius Delarouzée.

One new genus and eight new species of anilline carabids are described from southern Mexico. The new genus, Zapotecanillus gen. n., is established for Z. oaxacanus (type species) sp. n., Z. nanus sp. n., Z. iviei sp. n., Z. ixtlanus sp. n., Z. montanus sp. n., and Z. kavanaughi sp. n. from the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca, Z. pecki sp. n. from the Sierra Madre del Sur, and Z. longinoi sp. n. from the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. A taxonomic key for all described species of Zapotecanillus and a cladistic analysis, based on morphological data, are provided. Morphological, behavioral and biogeographical aspects of the speciation in the genus obtained from the resulting cladogram are discussed.

Nine new Trechisibus species are described, four from Central Peru (T. huascarani n. sp. and T. recuayi n. sp. from Dept. Ancash, T. curtii n. sp. and T. lemairei n. sp. from Dept. Huanuco) and five from Patagonian Argentina, Province of Rio Negro (T. brevis n. sp., T. longipenis n. sp., T. parvulus n. sp., T. sciakyi n. sp., T. striatus n. sp.).
