The ocean’s strategic status is extremely important, is the important stage of the international political, economic and military struggle, there are many disputes about the rights and interests, resources and the development and utilization on the oceans. To resolve these disputes is bound to depend on a strong comprehensive national strength, including politics, economy, science and technology, as well as the powerful marine force, in which maritime police plays an important role.

To meet requirements of automated warehouse stacker PLC control system monitoring software, a method of serial communication between the Panasonic Electrical FP1 type PLC and computer has been developed. The communication protocol, PLC communications settings and function process design are presented.

According to the functional requirements of mechanical seismic simulation platform exciter, a new exciter with dual driven slider-crank mechanism is designed to achieve stepless amplitude adjustment and multi-frequency vibration output. Based on the ADAMS simulation software, design features of mechanical seismic simulation platform exciter are verified.

In this paper a method of on-line adaptation to illumination is proposed for mobile robot based on omni-directional in a changing illumination environment. Illumination condition is represented by an average luminance distribution of a reference object in a time series images. Illumination change is detected by computing the KL-divergence between two different distributions. A dual-threshold strategy is used to classify the current illumination into known conditions or an unknown one. According to illumination the robot decides to switch to a corresponding color calibration or learn a new one. Experiments have been carried out on the soccer robot M-TR. Experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed method.

We have created a novel enzyme reactor using electric field-mediated orientation and immobilization of proteolytic enzymes (trypsin/chymotrypsin) on biocompatible PVDF membranes in a continuous flow-through chamber. Using less than 5 minutes, this reactor in various enzyme combinations can produce enhanced rapid digestion for standardized prototypic proteins, hydrophilic proteins and hydrophobic transmembrane proteins when compared to in-solution techniques. With improved digestive efficiency, our reactor improved the overall functional analysis of lipid raft proteomes by identifying more closely functionally linked proteins and elucidated a richer set of biological processes and pathways linked to the proteins than traditional in-solution methods.

In this paper, the impacts of environmental vibration on precision instruments as well as the vibration allowances of precision instruments are introduced firstly. Then the integrated model of a high-rise building is established, and the vibration responses of the floor where a precise instrument is fixed are calculated by inputting micro-vibration loads. The passive control method is used by putting several lead rubber bearings at the bottom of instrument and at the bottom of building separately, and the isolated vibration responses are calculated and analyzed. Some valuable conclusions are obtained by comparing the vibration responses of isolation system and non-isolation system with acceptable values according to the environmental vibration codes for precise instruments.

Based on optimization theories, considering soil-structure interaction and running safety, the optimal design model of the seismic isolation system with lead-rubber bearings (LRB) for a simply supported railway beam bridge is established by using the first order optimization method in ANSYS, which the parameters of the isolation bearing are taken as design variables and the maximum moments at the bottom of bridge piers are taken as objective functions. The optimal calculations are carried out under the excitation of three practical earthquake waves respectively. The research results show that the ratio of the stiffness after yielding to the stiffness before yielding has important effect on the structural seismic responses. Through the optimal analysis of isolated bridge system, the optimal design parameters of isolation bearing can be determined properly, and the seismic forces can be reduced maximally as meeting with the limits of relative displacement between pier top and beam, which provides efficient paths and beneficial references for dynamic optimization design of seismic isolated bridges.

Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is one of new composite material, which is applied in the pilot project of the railways construction. According to the literature survey and test data report, the major factors which influence the reliability of 32m prestressed RPC girder in railway bridges are given in this paper. Furthermore, combining numerical simulation with finite-element method, the reliability of the prestressed RPC girder is calculated. The results show that the failure probability and reliability parameter can be obtained through direct sampling method and the latin hypercubic sampling method. The reliability parameter of fracture is 3.9 with two methods, while the reliability parameter of deflection control is 4.1 and 4.2 respectively with the two methods, and the reliability parameters meet the demands of norm of railway bridges. Consequently, the RPC is safety to be used in the railway bridges.

The present investigation is a prospective study comparing the use of locked plates and classic double plates for the repair of bicondylar tibial plateau fractures. Eighty-four patients with bicondylar tibial plateau fractures were treated with plate fixation by either a locked plate (Less Invasive Stabilization System, LISS) or classic double plates (DP). All patients were followed for a minimum of 24 months. Outcomes were assessed by recording the surgical experience with each approach, post-operative complications and improvements in knee function as measured by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score. For all patients, no differences in the mechanisms of injury, fracture type, open fracture grade, mean age, gender distribution, associated medical conditions, pre-surgical stay, surgical time, bony union rate or radiographic healing times were observed between the two groups. Also, the HSS score and incidences of infection, seroma, hematoma, deep venous thrombosis, loss of reduction, loss of alignment, hardware failure and overall post-operative complications were all similar in both groups (P0.05). Wound size and blood loss were significantly less in the LISS group than in the DP group (both P0.05). A significantly higher incidence of post-operative malalignment of the proximal tibia (P=0.041) and a trend toward significance of a higher incidence of symptomatic hardware irritation (P=0.057) were observed in the LISS group compared to the DP group. In conclusion, LISS provides an alternative treatment for bicondylar tibial plateau fractures, but it may not replace the conventional two-incision double plating technique as the standard of care.

Inkjet printing of drug nanosuspension on edible porous substrates was carried out for the first time with the objective of preparing personalized dosage forms of poorly soluble drugs. Amorphous drug-polysaccharide nanoparticle complex (or drug nanoplex in short) was used as the nanosuspension ink, instead of the conventional crystalline nanodrug. The amorphous drug nanoplex exhibited low propensity to Ostwald ripening growth, high colloidal stability, and supersaturation generation capability making it ideal for printing. Nanoplexes of ciprofloxacin - a BCS Class IV compound - prepared by complexation with dextran sulfate were used as the nanosuspension ink at two different sizes (i.e. ≈265nm and 188nm). Inkjet printing was performed on cellulose substrate at 0.25% (w/v) nanosuspension concentration and 5% (w/v) polyethylene glycol. For both nanoplex sizes, the results indicated that the printed dose could be increased by increasing the number of droplets dispensed. However, exact correlations between the achievable dose and the number of droplets dispensed were not evident, which was likely caused by the spatial non-homogeneity in the nanosuspension concentration. Compared to the larger nanoplex, printed nanodrugs of the smaller nanoplex consistently exhibited higher payload with better batch-to-batch reproducibility (

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are nonprotein coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides. Recently in mammals, thousands of long noncoding RNAs have been identified and studied as key molecular players in different biological processes with protein complexes. As a long noncoding RNA, maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) plays an important role in many cellular processes. However, the mechanism underlying MEG3 regulatory effects remains enigmatic. By using the specific interaction between MS2 coat protein and MS2 RNA hairpin, we developed a method (MS2-tagged RNA affinity purification and mass spectrometry (MTRAP-MS)) to identify proteins that interact with MEG3. Mass spectrometry and gene ontology (GO) analysis showed that MEG3 binding proteins possess nucleotide binding properties and take part in transport, translation, and other biological processes. In addition, interleukin enhancer binding factor 3 (ILF3) and poly(A) binding protein, cytoplasmic 3 (PABPC3) were validated for their interaction with MEG3. These findings indicate that the newly developed method can effectively enrich lncRNA binding proteins and provides a strong basis for studying MEG3 functions.

To discuss the curative effect of traditional treatment and combination therapy for senile hip fracture.Using prospective methods to choose 300 cases of elderly patients with hip fractures from February 2011 to December 2012, which were randomly divided into comprehensive treatment group and conventional treatment group. After screening, 148 case were in comprehensive treatment group,including 62 males and 86 females with an average age of (78.76 +/- 7.32) years old ranging from 60 to 88; 45 cases were intertrochanteric fracture of femur, 103 cases were fracture of neck of femur; Singh indexor = IV in 74 cases,IV in 74 cases;preoperative Harris score was 39.90 +/- 2.28. There were 146 cases in conventional treatment group,including 60 males and 86 females with an average age of (80.00 +/- 7.06) years old ranging from 66 to 96; 50 cases were intertrochanteric fracture of femur, 96 cases were fracture of neck of femur; Singh indexor = IV in 75 cases,IV in 71 cases; preoperative Harris score was 40.10 +/- 2.81. Preoperative general situation,leaving bed time and hospital stay, the incidence of postoperative 12 weeks Singh indexor = IV and DPD/Cr value, Harris score at 12 months after operation and the incidence of fracture again of two groups were observed and compared.In comprehensive treatment group 140 patients were followed up for 12 to 18 months with an anverage of 14.80 +/- 1.85. In conventional treatment group 132 patients were followed up for 12 to 14 months with an average of 12.75 +/- 0.79. There were no significant differences in age, gender, the classification of fracture, preoperative Harris hip score, preoperative Singh indexor = IV level and DPD/Cr value between the two groups (P0.05). Comprehensive treatment group had shorter leaving bed time and hospital stay, smaller postoperative 12 weeks DPD/Cr value and higher postoperative Harris score, higher incidence of postoperative 12 weeks Singh indexor = IV level, lower incidence of fracture again than conventional treatment group, there was statistically significant difference between two groups (P0.05).For the anti-osteoporosis effect, the comprehensive treatment group has more advantage than traditional treatment group in elderly hip fracture, which can further improve the elderly hip fracture treatment and provide the reference of evidence-based medicine cooperate with rehabilitation department.

Amorphous nanodrugs prepared by electrostatic complexation of drug molecules with oppositely charged polysaccharides represent a promising bioavailability enhancement strategy for poorly-soluble drugs owed to their high supersaturation generation capability and simple preparation. Using ciprofloxacin (CIP) as the model drug, we investigated the effects of using dextran sulfate (DXT) or carrageenan (CGN) on the (1) preparation efficiency, (2) physical characteristics, (3) supersaturation generation, (4) antimicrobial activity, and (5) cytotoxicity of the amorphous drug-polysaccharide nanoparticle complex (nanoplex) produced. Owing to the higher charge density and chain flexibility of DXT, coupled with the greater hydrophobicity of CGN, the CIP-DXT nanoplex exhibited superior preparation efficiency and larger size than the CIP-CGN nanoplex. Whereas the low solubility and high gelation tendency of CGN resulted in superior supersaturation generation capability for the CIP-DXT nanoplex. The non-cytotoxicity, antimicrobial activity, colloidal, and amorphous state stability were established for both nanoplexes, making them an ideal supersaturated drug delivery system.

Chitosan-coated alginate microcapsules containing high-density biofilm Lactobacillus rhamnosus have been previously shown to exhibit higher freeze drying- and thermal-tolerance than their planktonic counterparts. However, their cell release profile remains poor due to the capsules' susceptibility to the gastric environment. Herein the effects of adding locust bean (LB) and xanthan (XT) gums to alginate (AGN) capsules on the stress tolerance and cell release profiles in simulated gastrointestinal fluids are investigated. Compared to the AGN-only capsules, the AGN-LB capsules exhibit improved stress tolerance (i.e. ≈ 6x for freeze drying, 100x for thermotolerance, 10x for acid), whereas the AGN-XT capsules only improve the acid tolerance. Importantly, the AGN-LB capsules possess the optimal cell release profile with a majority of cells released in the simulated intestinal juice than in the gastric juice. The AGN-LB capsules' superiority is attributed to their stronger interaction with the chitosan coating and high swelling capacity, thus delaying their bulk dissolution.

Long-period fiber grating (LPFG) is a kind of wide-range transmission passive photonic device with extensive applications in the field of fiber communication and fiber sensing. In this review, from the angle of refractive index spatial modulation, we extract three characteristic parameters of LPFG:grating period length, index modulated depth and normal orientation of grating plane, and classify LPFG as two types:uniform LPFG (none of these three parameters changes) and nonuniform LPFG (at least one of them changes), and analyze the deficiency of LPFG, including larger size than fiber Bragg grating, no reflection peak, too large bandwidth, polarization loss from single-side exposure, etc. We define the concept of novel LPFG (NLPFG) as the LPFGs based on general LPFG but having new structures and new characters by importing new factors from different aspects, like grating formed mechanism, grating structure, making material, processing technique, application performance, etc. Then we point out that the research significance of NLPFG lies in improving and exploring its real usable property, and making it practical by overcoming the defects of general LPFG in structure, property and application. We expound new techniques of LPFG fabrication, such as multi-exposure, apodized exposure, outfield action, coating and filling, fiber incised and welded, multi-dimensional modulation, and show some NLPFG examples written with these techniques. We build the spatial model of NLPFG to expand the refraction index modulation region from only fiber core to both core and cladding, and to correctly mark the direction of grating plane with tilted angle and azimuth angle. On this basis, we propose the design theory of NLPFG by adding those two angles into the coupling mode coefficient and solving the coupling mode equation. We also expound three different NLPFG design processes, as the direct design to start from given factors of grating, the reserve design to calculate the factors back from expected function or spectrum, and the direct-reserve design combined by them. Meanwhile, we introduce some typical design methods of NLPFG, like geometrical structure changed method, materials changed method, medium coated and embedded method, etc. In addition, we review the recent fabrication and typical application of NLPFG, then introduce different LPFG devices based on excentric core LPFG, multi-core LPFG, few-mode LPFG, stagger LPFG, mismatched LPFG, over-melted LPFG, phase-shift LPFG, tuning LPFG, coupled LPFG and cascaded LPFG, and show their sensing applications in strain, twisting, bending, temperature, displacement, gas concentration and biology. Finally, we provide a developing prospect of the research on NLPFG and give three possible means to improve the research, as innovating new gating structures, exploring new design methods and developing new fabrication techniques.

With the development of increasingly large and complex genomic and proteomic data sets, an enhancement in the complexity of available Venn diagram analytical programs is becoming increasingly important. Current freely available Venn diagram programs often fail to represent extra complexity among datasets, such as regulation pattern differences between different groups. Here we describe the development of VennPlex, a program that illustrates the often diverse numerical interactions among multiple, high-complexity datasets, using up to four data sets. VennPlex includes versatile output features, where grouped data points in specific regions can be easily exported into a spreadsheet. This program is able to facilitate the analysis of two to four gene sets and their corresponding expression values in a user-friendly manner. To demonstrate its unique experimental utility we applied VennPlex to a complex paradigm, i.e. a comparison of the effect of multiple oxygen tension environments (1–20% ambient oxygen) upon gene transcription of primary rat astrocytes. VennPlex accurately dissects complex data sets reliably into easily identifiable groups for straightforward analysis and data output. This program, which is an improvement over currently available Venn diagram programs, is able to rapidly extract important datasets that represent the variety of expression patterns available within the data sets, showing potential applications in fields like genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics.

As pharmacological data sets become increasingly large and complex, new visual analysis and filtering programs are needed to aid their appreciation. One of the most commonly used methods for visualizing biological data is the Venn diagram. Currently used Venn analysis software often presents multiple problems to biological scientists, in that only a limited number of simultaneous data sets can be analyzed. An improved appreciation of the connectivity between multiple, highly-complex datasets is crucial for the next generation of data analysis of genomic and proteomic data streams. We describe the development of VENNTURE, a program that facilitates visualization of up to six datasets in a user-friendly manner. This program includes versatile output features, where grouped data points can be easily exported into a spreadsheet. To demonstrate its unique experimental utility we applied VENNTURE to a highly complex parallel paradigm, i.e. comparison of multiple G protein-coupled receptor drug dose phosphoproteomic data, in multiple cellular physiological contexts. VENNTURE was able to reliably and simply dissect six complex data sets into easily identifiable groups for straightforward analysis and data output. Applied to complex pharmacological datasets, VENNTURE’s improved features and ease of analysis are much improved over currently available Venn diagram programs. VENNTURE enabled the delineation of highly complex patterns of dose-dependent G protein-coupled receptor activity and its dependence on physiological cellular contexts. This study highlights the potential for such a program in fields such as pharmacology, genomics, and bioinformatics.

We designed and fabricated a novel microdevice to facilitate continuous adsorption phenomena for biological sample preparation. Using the device, we also developed an online, highly integrated, multifunctional strategy, with a promise of accepting a large volume of crude tissue extracts with the end point generation of a reliable MS identification within 20 min. Under an external electric field, charged membranes can adsorb multiple layers of proteins, which exceed the capacity limit of common resins or membranes. It enlarges sample loading and trapping efficiency, thus bypasses the tradeoff between sample capacity and downstream detection sensitivity. This integrated approach, formed by synergistic utilization among electric field, membrane, and fluidic handling at the microscale, reduces the overall complexity of crude samples in one step for direct MS analysis. The sample preparation goals, including enrichment, desalting, removal of noncharged contaminants, and initial fractionation, can be rapidly performed in a single device. The strategy facilitates reproducible MS quantification by circumventing traditional laborious and time-consuming sample preparation steps. In addition, MEPD extended the ion trap linear dynamic range from 2 to at least 4 orders of magnitude by eliminating ion suppression effect, enriching target analyte(s), and decreasing sample loss during integrated sample preparation.

The paper suggests a kind of packet protocol for frequency-hopping networks based on chaotic non-periodic frequency-hopping (FH) sequences. The packet error and throughput performance of a frequency-hopping multi-access (FHMA) network are derived theoretically. It is shown that the ratio of the packet length to the frequency-hopping points is the key parameter to determining the FHMA system performance under the condition of a large number of users. Computer simulation results of the logistic chaotic sequences are also included to support our development.

A new polarization rotator based on the silica photonic crystal fiber is proposed. The proposed polarization rotator photonic crystal fiber (PR-PCF) possesses a triangle jigsaw-shape core region. The full-vector finite-element method is used to analyze the phenomenon of polarization conversion between the quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes. Numerical simulations show that the wavelengths of 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm are converted with a nearly 100% polarization conversion ratio with their matched coupling length and has a relatively strong realistic fabrication tolerance −100 nm on the y axis and 50 nm on the x axis. The full vectorial finite difference beam propagation method is used to confirm the performance of the proposed PR-PCF.
