Introduction: Telepharmacy, the application of information and communication technologies in healthcare services, has been adopted in many countries to provide patients with pharmaceutical care. However, it has yet to be widely used in Vietnam. This study was conducted to assess the current status of use and the factors associated with the willingness to use telepharmacy of pharmacists in Vietnam. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from February to July 2021; 414 pharmacists were recruited to fill in an online survey. Results: Overall, 86.7% of participants have used telepharmacy application and 87.2% of them were willing to apply telepharmacy in pharmacy practice. According to our multivariate analysis, the level of readiness was associated with positive attitude (odds ratio [OR] = 4.67; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.26-9.66), and a good behavior (OR = 11.34; 95% CI: 3.84-33.45). Discussion: Developing a telepharmacy system with appropriate features is essential to meet the requirements of pharmacy practice amid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic., Journal of Pharmacy Technology, 38(2), pp.106-114; 2022

This study aims to assess the proportion of preventive practices towards COVID-19 and associated factors among educators in Vietnam. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on educators at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP) using a self-administered questionnaire between June and August 2020. Online surveys and a multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to determine factors associated with practices. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were performed using Stata 14.Results: A total of 779 eligible participants were approached, most of them under 50 years (84.1%), around three-fifth were female (61.0%) and lecturers (61.1%), with only 38.1% of them working at hospitals. Overall, the majority of participants had good preventive practices towards COVID-19 (88.6%). Factors identified as being associated with good practices included participants who are lecturers (AOR 1.8, 95% CI: 1.05– 2.97), attending training courses related to COVID-19 (AOR 1.7, 95% CI: 1.05– 2.87), working at hospitals (AOR 2.5, 95% CI: 1.28– 4.76) and having a higher level of knowledge and attitude relating to COVID-19 (AOR 2.8, 95% CI: 1.52– 5.17; AOR 2.8, 95% CI: 1.70– 4.48, respectively) (all p < 0.05).Conclusion: These findings revealed that most educators reported a good level of preventive practices towards COVID-19. However, lower levels of practices still exist towards COVID-19 among participants who were administrative staff and have less access to training courses related to COVID-19, who reported that they did not work at the hospital and had a lower level of knowledge and attitude related to COVID-19. Because of the important role of educators in the education system, this study is expected to help education and health authorities implement suitable interventions to fill the gaps in practices between educators. Keywords: COVID-19, knowledge, attitude, practice, educator, Vietnam

Soil is contaminated with salinity, which inhibits plant growth and development and reduces crop yields. The DREB (dehydration responsive element binding protein) gene responds to salt stresses through enhanced transcriptional expression and activation of genes involved in plant salinity resistance. In this study, we present the results of the analysis of the expression of the GmDREB6 transgene, a gene that encodes the soybean DREB6 transcription factor, regulating the transcription of the NtP5CS and NtCLC genes in transgenic tobacco under salt stress conditions. The transcription of GmDREB6, NtP5CS, and NtCLC in transgenic tobacco lines was confirmed by qRT-PCR. Under salt stress conditions, the GmDREB6 gene transcription levels in the transgenic tobacco lines L1 and L9 had increased from 2.40- to 3.22- fold compared with the condition without salinity treatment. Two transgenic lines, L1 and L9, had transcription levels of the P5CS gene that had increased from 1.24- to 3.60- fold compared with WT plants. For the NtCLC gene, under salt stress conditions, the transgenic lines had transcription levels that had increased by 3.65–4.54 (fold) compared with WT plants (P

Meristems are central to plant growth and development, yet evidence of directly manipulating this control to improve crop yield is scarce. Kernel row number (KRN) is an important agronomic trait that can directly affect maize (Zea mays L.) yield. However, this trait is difficult to select by phenotyping, since it is highly variable in the mixed genetic backgrounds in early selfing generations. This study sought to improve this trait by marker-assisted backcrossing (MABC) of a weak allele of FASCIATED EAR 2 that is known to affect inflorescence meristem size, but the effect of which on yield is unclear. All of the four introgressed tropical elite inbreds of different heterotic groups, which are homozygous for the fea2-1328 allele, had 2–5 more KRNs compared to their respective recurrent parents. Furthermore, one hybrid made from crosses between two introgressed parents also had KRN increases that resulted in up to 28% yield increase compared to the original hybrid across multiple yield trials. The novel negative effects of the pericentromeric fea2 and/or its linkage drag effect on plant height, seed weight, and ear length, which could prevent line improvement, were revealed in several genetic backgrounds. Integration of conventional phenotypic selection to overcome these undesirable effects was discussed. This is the first work to demonstrate the possibility to increase yield of maize varieties using a mutation in a meristem size regulator. The crossing, selection strategies, and recombinant lines in this work can be applied to other elite maize hybrids and provide a potentially straightforward, non-transgenic way to improve the yield of an existing variety by 8–28%.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the oil and bioactive contents of grape waste by both conventional and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) methods. Other controlled factors included the segment solvent used (n- hexane-methanol, n-hexane-ethanol), the solid/solvent ratios (1 : 5, 1 : 10, 1 : 20 g/mL) and in MAE, the microwave powers (40 W, 240 W and 440 W). The extracts were analysed for the contents of fatty oil, lipid hydroperoxide content (LP), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant capacity. The optimal conditions for the grape oil recovery were at 240 W, using n-hexane-ethanol solvent, and the ratio of 1 : 10 by using the MAE method. At the same ratio conditions, the highest contents of LP and TPC were 0.032 mM (at 440 W) and 43.657 mg gallic acid (AG)/dry weight (at 240 W). At 440 W and ratio of 1: 10, TFC peaked the highest point at 37.862 mg quercetin/g dry weight. The results indicated that grape waste is a valuable input for a wide range of applications in nutraceutical and food industries, offering an additional economic by-product for the grape processing.

Bacillus aquimaris SH6 spores produce carotenoids that are beneficial to white-leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) health. However, the optimal dose and mechanisms behind these effects are not well understood. We investigated the fate of SH6 spores in the gut of L. vannamei. Shrimp were divided into six groups administrated with either feed only (negative control) or SH6 spores at 5 × 106 CFU/g pellet (high dose, SH6 spore-H group), 1 × 106 CFU/g pellet (medium dose, SH6 spore-M group), 2 × 105 CFU/g pellet (low dose, SH6 spore-L group), astaxanthin at 0.5 mg/g pellet (Carophyll group), or carotenoids from SH6 vegetative cells at 5 μg/g pellet (SH6 carotenoid group). The growth rate was highest in SH6 spore-H (3.38%/day), followed by SH6 spore-M (2.84%/day) and SH6 spore-L (2.25%/day), which was significantly higher than the control (1.45%/day), Carophyll (1.53%/day) or SH6 carotenoid (1.57%/day) groups. The astaxanthin levels (1.9-2.0 μg/g shrimp) and red-colour scores (21-22) in SH6 spore-H/M were higher than the control (astaxanthin: 1.2 μg/g shrimp; red score: 20) or SH6 spore-L, but lower than the Carophyll and SH6 carotenoids. Feeding with medium and high doses of SH6 spores after 28 days resulted in respective 1.3-2-fold increases in phenol oxidase activity and 8-9 fold increases in Rho mRNA expression compared to the control and low dose group. The live-counts of SH6 in the gut gradually increased during the 28-day feeding period with SH6 spores at different concentrations, starting from 4.1, 8.2, and 5.4 × 104 CFU/g gut at day 1 and reaching 5.3, 5.1, and 4.4 × 105 CFU/g gut in the SH6-H/M/L groups, respectively, at day 28. Gut microbiota became more diversified, resulting in a 2-8-fold increase in total bacterial live-counts compared to the controls. SH6 spore germination was detected by measuring the mRNA expression of a specific sequence coding for SH6 amylase at 4 h, reaching saturation at 24 h. Our results confirm that SH6 spores colonize and germinate in the gut to improve the microbial diversity and boost the immune system of shrimp, exhibiting beneficial effects at >1 × 106 CFU/g pellet.

The aerobic rice system is a new promising water-saving cultivation technique; however, rice sensitivity to aerobic conditions limits its use. We investigated morphological and physiological responses of seedlings of two upland rice genotypes (Beodien and Sensho) and two lowland rice genotypes (KD18 and Koshihikari) to flooded condition (control) and three aerobic conditions (32, 22, and 14% soil moisture content (SMC), w/w) in 2013 and to a flooded condition and aerobic condition (32% SMC) in 2014. Under aerobic conditions, shoot growth was limited because of a reduction in water uptake. Water uptake capacity was highly controlled by root traits such as root dry weight and root length. Under aerobic conditions, leaf water potential, stomatal conductance, and root hydraulic conductance declined. We found that the 32% SMC condition was the most favorable aerobic condition whereas 22% and 14% SMC conditions strongly suppressed rice growth. Genotypic variations in physio-morphological traits were more clearly detected under well-irrigated conditions (32% SMC) than other two aerobic conditions. In both years, cultivar Sensho adapted to the 32% SMC condition, whereas Koshihikari did not adapt to the aerobic rice system, probably because of its limited root growth and lower root plasticity. The positive correlation between root traits and water uptake indicate that root traits are important for improving rice performance under an aerobic rice system.

This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and preventive practices (KAP) towards COVID-19 for this population in Vietnam. Methods: An online-based cross-sectional survey was considered with all students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City (UMP), Vietnam, between June and August 2020. A structured questionnaire was used to assess KAP towards COVID-19 with response having considerable data missing in the areas of KAP being excluded from the analysis. All data were analysed by using STATA 14 software, to determine the factors associated with preventive practices, and a multivariable regression analysis was performed, along with odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI).Results: A total of 2351 eligible participants completed the survey, 65.6% of whom were female, and their mean age was 21.9 years old (SD = 2.7). Almost all had sufficient knowledge (86.6%) and good preventive practice (92.8%) towards COVID-19; however, there was also a rather low level of positive attitude recorded, at 68.8%. The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the female participants, and the receiving of information from the official websites, reported a significantly higher level of good practice. Besides, students who had a high level of sufficient knowledge and positive attitude towards COVID-19 were more likely to have good preventive practices (All p< 0.001).Conclusion: The findings demonstrated good preventive practice towards COVID-19; however, sufficient knowledge and positive attitude were lower. Therefore, it is an identified requirement to continue with additional education and training strategies to offer a better understanding and positive viewpoint of the pandemic for all students, including healthcare students. Keywords: attitude, COVID-19, knowledge, practice, healthcare students, Vietnam

Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most prevalent subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and its progression has been linked to chronic inflammation. About 70% of the ccRCC cases are associated with inactivation of the von Hippel–Lindau (VHL) tumor-suppressor gene. However, it is still not clear how mutations in VHL, encoding the substrate-recognition subunit of an E3 ubiquitin ligase that targets the alpha subunit of hypoxia-inducible factor-α (HIFα), can coordinate tissue inflammation and tumorigenesis. We previously generated mice with conditional Vhlh knockout in kidney tubules, which resulted in severe inflammation and fibrosis in addition to hyperplasia and the appearance of transformed clear cells. Interestingly, the endothelial cells (EC), although not subject to genetic manipulation, nonetheless showed profound changes in gene expression that suggest a role in promoting inflammation and tumorigenesis. Oncostatin M (OSM) mediated the interaction between VHL-deficient renal tubule cells and the ECs, and the activated ECs in turn induced macrophage recruitment and polarization. The OSM-dependent microenvironment also promoted metastasis of exogenous tumors. Thus, OSM signaling initiates reconstitution of an inflammatory and tumorigenic microenvironment by VHL-deficient renal tubule cells, which plays a critical role in ccRCC initiation and progression.Significance:A novel mechanism of cross-talk between ECs and VHL-deficient kidney tubules that stimulates inflammation and tumorigenesis is discovered, suggesting OSM could be a potential target for ccRCC intervention.

In Vietnam, the acceptance rate of mobile banking is still at a low level despite the efforts from banks and the government. Therefore, it is important to look at the elements influencing Vietnamese customers' adoption of mobile banking. Moreover, non-cash payment actions are more prevalent in an epidemic scenario. A straightforward explanation is that most people fear the illness and look for ways to avoid social interaction. In this study, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT2) is extended by considering perceived fear of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the findings, trust, performance expectancy, social influence, and fear of the pandemic significantly affect behavioral intention to adopt mobile banking services of Vietnamese people. Furthermore, the behavioral intention, followed by the perceived fear of the COVID-19, considerably and favorably influence the usage behavior toward mobile banking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data were collected based on a self-administered questionnaire that included sociodemographic and standardized questionnaires from the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Perceived stress scale (PSS) and the dependent variable using Insomnia Severity Index (ISI). Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to explore factors associated with the patientsâ insomnia disorder. Results: A total of 325 participants were included in this analysis, 34.5% of participants had insomnia. According to multivariable logistic regression, participants who were equal to and over 50 years of age, feeling alienated from others, and were not supported by families or relatives, reported significantly higher levels of insomnia disorders over those aged under 50 years, having closer ties with family and had received support from family or relatives. Besides, respondents who recorded mental health problems that included anxiety, depression and stress were more likely to get insomnia disorders than those without mental health symptoms (OR 2.7, 95% CI 1.1â 6.6) (OR 4.5, 95% CI 2.3â 8.9) (OR 2.3, 95% CI 1.1â 5.3), respectively, all p < 0.05.Conclusion: There was a remarkable rate of COVID-19 recovered patients experiencing insomnia disorders. Older age, alienated relationships and not being supported by families or relatives, as well as had mental health problems, are factors that affected the patientsâ insomnia, which showed that these sleep issues need to be screened and managed among adults who have recovered from COVID-19.Keywords: COVID-19, insomnia, recovery, sleep disturbance, Vietnam

- Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the leading type of cancer among women. Findings have revolutionized current knowledge of microRNA (miRNA) in breast tumorigenesis. The seed region of miRNA regulates the process of gene expression negatively. The presence of SNPs in the seed regions of miRNA dramatically alters the mature miRNA function. Additionally, SNPs in the out-seed region of miRNAs have a significant impact on miRNA targeting. This study focuses on the in silico analysis procedure of mature miRNA SNPs and their impact on BC risk. The database annotated SNPs on mature miRNAs was used. Also, target gene alterations, miRNAs function in BC, and the interaction of miRNAs with targets were predicted. A list of 101 SNPs in 100 miRNAs with functional targets in BC was indicated. Under the SNPs allele variation, 10 miRNAs changed function, 6 miRNAs lost targets, 15 miRNAs gained targets, 48 onco-miRNAs remained unchanged, and 21 tumor suppressor miRNAs remained unchanged. At last, a list of 89 SNPs, which alter miRNA function and miRNA-mRNA interaction, were shown to be potentially associated with BC risk. This research theoretically generated a list of possible causative SNPs in the mature miRNA gene that might be used in future BC management studies.

Purpose: Improving solubility and antibacterial efficiency of cephalothin by using silica-containing redox nanoparticle (siRNP) as a system to encapsulate and deliver this hydrophobic antibiotic. Methods: siRNP was synthesized by assembling amphiphilic block copolymers possessing a reactive oxygen species scavenging nitroxide radical and drug absorptive silica moieties in a hydrophobic side chain. Cephalothin, a hydrophobic antibiotic, was encapsulated into siRNP (cephalothin@siRNP) by mixing and dialysis methods. Antibacterial activity of cephalothin@siRNP against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) và Escherichia coli (E. coli) was evaluated by the agar diffusion method. Results: The average size of siRNP and cephalothin@siRNP was 43.83 nm and 50.15 nm, respectively. After encapsulation in siRNP, the solubility of cephalothin was improved compared to cephalothin in an aqueous solution. The result showed that in vitro antibacterial activities of cephalothin and cephalothin@siRNP had no statistical difference after 24 h incubation on agar plates on both S. aureus and E. coli. However, after an extended incubation time, regrowth of E. coli colonies in the inhibitory zone was found in cephalothin treated plate. Interestingly, E. coli regrowth was significantly reduced in plates treated with cephalothin@siRNP. Conclusion: In this study, siRNP successfully encapsulated cephalothin and enhanced the solubility of this drug. The antibacterial activity of cephalothin is prolonged when encapsulated in siRNP, which suppressed the reccurrence of E. coli colonies. Cephalothin@siRNP has the potential to inhibit antibiotic resistance.

Asymptomatic transmission was found to be the Achilles' heel of the symptom-based screening strategy, necessitating the implementation of mass testing to efficiently contain the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic. However, the global shortage of molecular reagents and the low throughput of available realtime PCR facilities were major limiting factors.A novel semi-nested and heptaplex (7-plex) RT-PCR assay with melting analysis for detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been established for either individual testing or 96-sample pooled testing. The complex melting spectrum collected from the heptaplex RT-PCR amplicons was interpreted with the support of an artificial intelligence algorithm for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The analytical and clinical performance of the semi-nested RT-PCR assay was evaluated using RNAs synthesized in-vitro and those isolated from nasopharyngeal samples. The LOD of the assay for individual testing was estimated to be 7.2 copies/reaction. Clinical performance evaluation indicated a sensitivity of 100% (95% CI: 97.83-100) and a specificity of 99.87% (95% CI: 99.55-99.98). More importantly, the assay supports a breakthrough sample pooling method, which makes possible parallel screening of up to 96 samples in one real-time PCR well without loss of sensitivity. As a result, up to 8,820 individual pre-amplified samples could be screened for SARS-CoV-2 within each 96-well plate of realtime PCR using the pooled testing procedure. The novel semi-nested RT-PCR assay provides a solution for highly multiplex (7-plex) detection of SARS-CoV-2 and enables 96-sample pooled detection for increase of testing capacity. .

Numerous studies have also revealed that students with a high level of nomophobia have an increased risk of depression. However, few researchers are interested in examining how the association between nomophobia and depressive symptoms mediates loneliness and self-control. This study aimed to investigate, among Vietnamese high school students, the association between nomophobia and depressive symptoms, specifically focusing on the role that loneliness and self-control play as potential mediators of that relationship. The Nomophobia Scale (NMP-Q), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21), The UCLA loneliness scale version 3 (UCLA III), and The Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) were completed by 556 Vietnamese high school students. Using the PROCESS macro, mediation analyses were conducted to investigate the relationship between variables. According to our findings, nomophobia was positively associated with symptoms of depression, and loneliness and self-control partially mediated this relationship. It is suggested that methods for preventing claustrophobia and depressive symptoms be taken seriously in order to increase self-control and decrease loneliness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundUnintentional injuries have emerged as a significant public health issue in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), especially in Vietnam, where there is a poor quality of care for trauma. A scarcity of formal and informal training opportunities contributes to a lack of structure for treating trauma in Vietnam. A collaborative trauma education project by the JW LEE Center for Global Medicine in South Korea and the Military Hospital 175 in Vietnam was implemented to enhance trauma care capacity among medical staff across Ho Chi Minh City in 2018. We aimed to evaluate a part of the trauma education project, a one-day workshop that targeted improving diagnostic and surgical skills among the medical staff (physicians and nurses).MethodsA one-day workshop was offered to medical staff across Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2018. The workshop was implemented to enhance the trauma care knowledge of providers and to provide practical and applicable diagnostic and surgical skills. To evaluate the workshop outcomes, we utilized a mixed-methods survey data. All participants (n = 27) voluntarily completed the post-workshop questionnaire. Quality of contents, satisfaction with teaching skills, and perceived benefit were used as outcomes of the workshop, measured by 5-point Likert scales (score: 1–5). Descriptive statistics were performed, and open-ended questions were analyzed by recurring themes.ResultsThe results from the post-workshop questionnaire demonstrated that the participants were highly satisfied with the quality of the workshop contents (mean = 4.32 standard deviation (SD) = 0.62). The mean score of the satisfaction regarding the teaching skills was 4.19 (SD = 0.61). The mean score of the perceived benefit from the workshop was 4.17 (SD = 0.63). The open-ended questions revealed that the program improved their knowledge in complex orthopedic surgeries neglected prior to training.ConclusionsPositive learning experiences highlighted the need for the continuation of the international collaboration of skill development and capacity building for trauma care in Vietnam and other LMIC.

This study aims to assess the diagnostic value of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and interleukin (IL)-6 in the diagnosis of pneumonia caused by Rhinovirus alone or with bacterial coinfection in Vietnamese children under 5 years of age. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 26 children under 5 years of age with severe pneumonia due to Rhinovirus at the National Pediatric Hospital. IL-6, hs-CRP, and PCT tests were performed. The diagnostic values of PCT, IL-6, and hs-CRP in classifying those with viral alone and those with bacterial coinfection were determined. Of 26 children, 10 children were diagnosed to have bacterial coinfections (38.5%). The optimal cutoff point for PCT was > 2.30 ng/mL (sensitivity 50%, specificity 94%, positive predictive value 83%, and negative predictive value 75%). The optimal cutoff point for hs-CRP was > 1.53 mg/dl (sensitivity 90%, specificity 56%, positive predictive value 56%, and negative predictive value 90%). Finally, the optimal cut-off point for IL-6 was > 441.5 pg/mL (sensitivity 20%, specificity 100%, positive predictive value 100%, and negative predictive value 60%). The accuracy rate of PCT was the highest with 69.2%, followed by hs-CRP with 65.4%. Inflammatory biomarkers such as PCT and hs-CRP were able to distinguish children with severe pneumonia caused by Rhinovirus alone and those with bacterial coinfection.

COVID-19 vaccines are critical tools to manage the current pandemic. The objective of this study is to assess determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among parents in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.A cross-sectional study of parents were performed, who had at least one child aged 5-17 years. The data were collected by a self-report questionnaire, which was based, predominately, on the Health Belief Model (HBM), between January 21 and 20 April 2021. The main outcome of this study aims to investigate the self-reported parental COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy for their children that has been approved by health authorities in Vietnam.A total of 1,015 parents completed the survey. Parental COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy for their children (26.2%) was decreased with blue-collar workers, intended to get vaccinated themselves, indicated sufficient knowledge toward COVID-19, and their older children reported having comorbidities. In the HBM structure, the barriers were positively related to parents' hesitancy to vaccinate their children, whilst perceived susceptibility and severity to illness, benefits of vaccination, and cues to action were less likely to cause a refusal of a vaccination for their children (all p 0.05). The reasons for vaccine hesitancy included, predominately, concerns about side effects (81.6%), and vaccine safety (76.3%).The findings show that almost a quarter of the study population are hesitant to vaccinate their children. Factors were associated with parental vaccination hesitancy for their children include sufficient knowledge of the COVID-19, older children and those with chronic conditions, and domains of HBM like the perception of susceptibility and severity to illness, benefit and barriers of vaccination, and cues to action. These will contribute to make planning in health communication strategies for the upcoming vaccination campaigns, as well as managing the pandemic.
