Unicycle is a robot that imitates a performance of a circus artist on a one-wheeled self-balancing bicycle. This research assumes that this model is equivalent to two separated popular models: a two-wheeled self-balancing robot and reaction wheeled inverted pendulum. On each model, we build a PD controller. Thence, we present a structure of PD controllers to balance this model at the equilibrium point. We also build an experimental unicycle robot for the laboratory. Our method is proven to work well based on both simulation and experiment.

Few support services and caregiving interventions exist to support family caregivers in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). This paper presents exploratory analyses of outcomes of Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health in Vietnam (REACH VN).A cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted in Soc Son, a semi-rural area in Hanoi. Nine clusters with 60 caregivers were randomized to either an enhanced control group or REACH VN, an in-home, multicomponent, family caregiver support intervention delivered over two to three months. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and three months.Caregivers in the intervention group experienced a significantly greater reduction in frustration levels compared to those in the control group. There were differences in other outcomes (e.g., care recipient problem behaviors and associated caregiver bother) favoring the intervention condition that did not reach statistical significance.We found additional evidence that REACH VN is a promising intervention to improve family caregiver outcomes in Vietnam.

Tin dioxide (SnO2) has recently been recognized as an excellent electron transport layer (ETL) for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) due to its advantageous properties, such as its high electron mobility, suitable energy band alignment, simple low-temperature process, and good chemical stability. In this work, nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) were prepared using a hydrothermal method and then used to fabricate N-GQD:SnO2 nanocomposite ultrathin films. N-GQD:SnO2 nanocomposite ultrathin films were investigated and applied as electron transport layers in planar PSCs. The presence of N-GQDs with an average size of 6.2 nm in the nanocomposite improved its morphology and reduced surface defects. The excitation–emission contour map indicated that the N-GQDs exhibited a remarkably enhanced light-harvesting capability due to the possibility of absorbing UV light and producing emissions in the visible range. The quenching of photoluminescence spectra showed that the N-GQDs in nanocomposite ultrathin films improved electron extraction and reduced charge recombination. As a result, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of our planar PSCs fabricated with the optimized N-GQD:SnO2 nanocomposite electron transport layer was improved by 20.4% over pristine SnO2-based devices.

Control of nucleation sites is an important goal in materials growth: nuclei in regular arrays may show emergent photonic or electronic behavior, and once the nuclei coalesce into thin films, the nucleation density influences parameters such as surface roughness, stress, and grain boundary structure. Tailoring substrate properties to control nucleation is therefore a powerful tool for designing functional thin films and nanomaterials. Here, we examine nucleation control for metals deposited on two-dimensional (2D) materials in a situation where substrate effects are absent and heterogeneous nucleation sites are minimized. Through quantification of faceted, epitaxial Au island nucleation on graphene, we show that ultra-low nucleation densities with nuclei several micrometers apart can be achieved on suspended graphene under conditions where we measure the nucleation density to be 2-3 orders of magnitude higher on the adjacent supported substrate. We estimate diffusion distances using nucleation theory and find a strong sensitivity of nucleation and diffusion to suspended graphene thickness. We suggest that nucleation site density control via substrate tuning may act as a platform for applications where non-lithographic patterning of metals on graphene is beneficial.

In this report, silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) with the NH2 functional group were synthesized with the hydrothermal method. The as-prepared SiQDs exhibit a strong fluorescence emission peak at 441 nm when excited at 355 nm and are effectively quenched upon adding Cr6+ ions. Hence, SiQDs were used as an optical probe to detect Cr6+ ions in solutions. The crystal structure of SiQDs was characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to determine the linker groups on the SiQDs surface. The fluorescence spectroscopic technique with an excitation wavelength of 355 nm was used to quantify the Cr6+ ion concentration in the solutions in the range of 0.1–1000 µM. Competition from common coexisting ions, such as K+, Na+, Al3+, Zn2+, and Pb2+, was ignorable. The test with actual samples showed good linearity for the Cr6+ concentration range of 0.1–50 µM.

Introduction: Tryptophan metabolism has been shown to be involved in tumor development. Two main tryptophan-degrading enzymes, tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO2) and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1), may potently promote cancer cell survival and distant metastasis in diverse types of cancer, such as lung and breast cancer. IDO1 overexpression is an independent prognosticator in gastric cancer (GC). This work aimed to uncover the expression of TDO2 and its clinicopathologic significance in GC. Methods: TDO2 expression was evaluated in public data of The Cancer Genome Atlas cohort STAD and in two different GC cohorts. Correlation between TDO2 and immune cell infiltrates as well as PD-L1 tumor staining was investigated. The biofunction of TDO2 was examined with MTT, colony formation, and spheroid formation assays by RNA interference. Results: TDO2 expression was correlated with both progressive disease and clinical outcome, and its expression was an independent predictor of prognosis in GC. TDO2 expression was correlated with infiltration of immune cells and tumor expression of PD-L1. Inhibition of TDO2 expression suppressed cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell invasion of GC cells. Additionally, suppression of TDO2 expression inhibited spheroid body-formation and viability of GC organoids. Conclusion: Our data show that TDO2 might be a crucial marker for predicting prognosis and targeted therapy in GC.

Objectives: This paper aimed to review and synthesise the qualitative research evidence on the experiences and perceptions of dementia in Vietnam and among the Vietnamese diaspora. Methods: Systematic searches were conducted in June 2019 using Medline, Embase, Emcare, PsycINFO and Cochrane electronic databases, as well as grey literature. Keywords and Medical Subject Headings [MeSH terms] for dementia and associated terms were combined with keywords for Vietnam and its provinces. Qualitative research articles published in English or Vietnamese were included to examine evidence on the life experiences of Vietnamese people with dementia using thematic analysis. Results: Our searches resulted in 3,940 papers, from which 21 qualitative research studies were included for final analysis. The majority of research has not been undertaken in Vietnam but with the Vietnamese diaspora in Western countries and has taken a cultural perspective to analyses. Research in Western countries has focused on the need for culturally adapted and culturally sensitive models of care. Emerging themes about the life experiences of Vietnamese people with dementia identified from the studies included: many people do not have diagnostic terms for dementia but use the descriptive language of symptoms; stigma was a reported problem and on occasions can be observed in the descriptive language used for people with dementia; cultural and traditional values create both an opportunity and a barrier, supporting compassion, family care and relaxation, but creating barriers to accessing health services or long-term residential care. Conclusions: This is the first systematic review reporting qualitative evidence on the life experiences of people with dementia in Vietnam and among the Vietnamese diaspora. Future research is needed on the voice of people with dementia themselves and their caregivers particularly in Vietnam, and low and middle-income countries with regards to living with dementia, pathways to care from diagnosis, treatment, care and support, additional social care and preparedness for end of life care for people with dementia.
