106. 日本人学習者の英語発音に対する学習態度について

Abstract

In this study, junior college students' attitudes toward English pronunciation and their actual pronunciation abilities were measured with the purpose of investigating the relationship between the two. Attitudes were measured using a questionnaire the authors prepared. The results of the analysis showed that although 80% of the students recognized the importance of studying pronunciation, over 50% of them study it less than once or twice a month, and about 40% of the students reported their English pronunciation as almost always having very marked characteristics of Japanese. A large gap between awareness and practice can be postulated based on this information. In addition, 40% of the students claimed that their pronunciation problems stem from a lack of pronunciation instruction in secondary school, and 24% said that the fear of teasing and embarrassment were psychological barriers to learning more accurate English pronunciation. Students who annotated English pronunciation primarily using the Japanese katakana syllabary, and students who said they felt hesitation to speak English with accurate pronunciation, were both shown to have significantly lower pronunciation test scores than other students. From the results of this study, it can be inferred that if students would refrain from using katakana to annotate English pronunciation, and teachers would be more active in encouraging students not to deliberately pronounce English as if it were Japanese, it would have a significantly positive effect on students' English pronunciation., 本研究は,短期大学の学生を対象に,英語発音に関する学習態度を調査すると共に実際の英語発音能力を測定し,学習態度と英語発音能力の関係性について明らかにすることを目的として行われた。学習態度は著者が作成したアンケートによって調査した。分析の結果,8割の学生が発音学習の重要性を認識していると回答した反面,5割以上の学生が1ヶ月に1∿2回以下しか学習をしていない,約4割の学生が自分の英語の発音はほとんどいつも日本語的（カタカナ英語）であると答える等,意識と実践において大きな差があることが明らかになった。また,日本語的な発音の理由として約4割の学生が中高学校での英語発音教育が不十分であったことを挙げ,24%の学生は,正しい発音で話すことへの恥ずかしさ,ひやかされることへの恐れ等の心理的要因を挙げた。発音学習の仕方で英語にカタカナで読み仮名を振って暗記する方法を主に使っている学生及び,正しい発音で話すことに抵抗を感じると答えた学生の発音テスト結果はそれぞれそうでない学生に比べ有意に低かった。この研究結果から,英語発音指導において,カタカナで読み仮名を振らないこと,日本語的な発音で話すことを教師が積極的に注意することが,正しい英語発音を習得する上で重要であることが明らかになった。

Abstract

The following two matters should be resolved in order for biosimulation tools to be accepted by users in biology/medicine: (1) remove issues which are irrelevant to biological importance, and (2) allow users to represent biopathways intuitively and understand/manage easily the details of representation and simulation mechanism. From these criteria, we firstly define a novel notion of Petri net called Hybrid Functional Petri Net (HFPN). Then, we introduce a software tool, Genomic Object Net, for representing and simulating biopathways, which we have developed by employing the architecture of HFPN. In order to show the usefulness of Genomic Object Net for representing and simulating biopathways, we show two HFPN representations of gene regulation mechanisms of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) circadian rhythm and apoptosis induced by Fas ligand. 148. Sol-gel silicate glass doped with silver for bone regeneration: Antibacterial activity, intermediate water, and cell death mode

Abstract

The hydration state of bioactive glass materials and its relationship with their biocompatibility have been receiving attention. In this research, silver-containing bioactive glasses (BGAgs) (Ag contents of 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0% in the glass system) were developed using the sol-gel method. Their physicochemical properties, size, morphology, and surface area were characterized by conducting X-rays diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analyses. The surface charges of the developed BGAgs were evaluated using the Nano Zetasizer. Moreover, the antibacterial activities and intermediate water (IW) contents of hydrated BGAgs were determined. Finally, BGAgs disks were tested against osteosarcoma (MG63) cell line to evaluate their death modes. The physicochemical characteristics of the BGAgs revealed no modifications after Ag doping. In comparison, relative changes were recorded in the particle size (20–33 to 16–29 nm), surface area (4.3 to 3.7 m2/g), and particle charge (−24 to −14.6 mV). Doping the current glass system with silver produced impressive amounts of IW, consistent with recorded proliferation rates of the cells when treated with BGAgs. The determined hydration states correlated with other findings in this research might be helpful in predicting and assessing the biological behaviors of BGAgs.

149. A Perfusion Method Using Low Concentration of Glutaraldehyde and Saponin Solution for the Observation of the Cytoskeleton of Epithelial Cells.

Abstract

Previously we perfused several organs with the medium containing a low concentration of glutaraldehyde and Triton X-100 in order to observe the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. Saponin can be substituted for Triton X-100. To assess the action of saponin in this perfusion method, we observed the visceral epithelial cells (podocytes) in the glomeruli of rat kidneys by scanning and transmission electron microscopes. By SEM, filaments formed a network, and vesicles and granules were seen in the cytoplasm of podocytes. These structures seen by SEM were identified by TEM as endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, thin filaments and microtubules. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

150. Temporal and spatial profiles of ABCA2‐expressing oligodendrocytes in the developing rat brain

Abstract

ABCA2 protein belongs to the ABCA subclass of ATP‐binding cassette (ABC) transporters proposed to exert critical functions in transmembrane transport of endogenous lipids. In this study, we found by immunoblot analyses that approximately 260 kDa of ABCA2 protein is expressed predominantly in oligodendrocytes, and that the expression of the protein is upregulated in the brain during maturation, especially between postnatal days 6 and 19. Parallel to the changes in expression of ABCA2, immunohistochemical analyses showed rapid spatial spread of ABCA2‐immunolabeled oligodendrocytes in the brain during this period. These temporal and spatial changes in ABCA2 expression were in good agreement with findings in myeloarchitectonics reported previously. Further, double immunolabeling with ABCA2 and a major structural protein of myelin, myelin basic protein, demonstrated that onset of ABCA2 expression in oligodendrocytes coincides with the appearance of thick myelin segments immunolabeled with myelin basic protein. Because ABCA2 was abundantly expressed in adult cortex in white matter and gray matter, coexpression of ABCA2 and a marker for the oligodendroglial progenitors NG2 or platelet‐derived growth factor α receptor was investigated. No cells coexpressing ABCA2 and the marker were observed, suggesting that ABCA2 is expressed predominantly in myelin‐forming oligodendrocytes distinct from the adult oligodendroglial progenitors tested. These results suggested a role for ABCA2 in membrane transport of substrates such as the lipids that are closely linked to myelination processes. J. Comp.
