Abstract

Introduction Recently, attention has been paid to the relationship between developmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and sleep disorders. We meet many developmental disorder patients who complaint hypersomnolence. Among these patients, cases with coexistence of central hypersomnia and developmental disorders, or developmental disorder alone were increased. Therefore, we first investigated patients with the complaint of hypersomnolence, who were also suspected developmental disorders. Furthermore, we have been measuring CSF orexin in 17 cases suspected of both disorders to investigate orexin levels of these patients. Methods 86patients who complained of EDS with suspicion of developmental disorders had been examined. In order to diagnose hypersomnolence disorders, PSG and MSLT were performed. Psychological examinations were performed for diagnosing developmental disorders.We have been measuring for CSF orexin in 17 cases suspected both hypersomnolence and developmental disorders. We examined the onset of hypersomnolence and the clinical history of these ADHD or ASD cases for more details. Results In 86 examined cases, developmental disorders coexisted in 30 cases. Among 30 cases, ADHD were 18, ASD were 6 and both diagnosed were 6 cases. Among them, 20 cases diagnosed as having coexistence of hypersomnia (8: narcolepsy, 12: IHS) and developmental disorders (ADHD:12, ASD:4, ADHD/ASD:4). In 17 cases with orexin measurements, 10 cases coexisted ADHD and 4 cases coexisted ASD. Two cases diagnosed as both ADHD and ASD. In 10 ADHD cases, 3 cases had low orexin levels, and 7 cases had normal orexin levels. Other 7 ASD cases had normal orexin levels. Conclusion ADHD has a higher rate of central hypersomnia (12/18) compared with ASD and the rate of narcolepsy was also high (5/12). While patients in ASD was diagnosed as IHS (3/6), narcolepsy cases were not observed. It became clear that the majority of patients had developmental disorder or had a tendency for developmental disorder before the onset of hypersomnolence.Although it is possible that ADHD/ASD symptoms may be exacerbated by orexin dysfunctions, ADHD/ASD may not newly occur. Abstract

A 27-year-old woman with complete placenta previa was referred at 22 weeks of gestation because of vaginal bleeding and fetal growth restriction. At 24 weeks, sudden fetal death occurred, but bleeding continued and transvaginal sonography revealed abundant periplacental blood flow in the uterine wall. To avoid cesarean section, the authors performed uterine artery embolization (UAE) be- fore vaginal delivery of the fetus. Subsequently, there was little bleeding when laminaria was inserted for cervical ripening and the fetus was delivered vaginally by using vaginal gemeprost. Total blood loss was only 149 ml. The present case suggests that UAE may be an option for patients with placenta previa who desire vaginal delivery after intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) in a second-trimester pregnancy.

Abstract

Lophiostoma bipolare was taxonomically revised based on the morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses of molecular data from nuclear rDNA SSU-ITS-LSU, TUB, tef1, and rpb2 genes. Twenty-nine strains were morphologically similar to Lo. bipolare. A total of 174 sequences were generated from the Lo. bipolare complex. Phylogenetic analyses based on TUB sequence revealed 11 distinct species within the Lo. bipolare complex. Morphological features of the ascospores and the anatomical structure of the ascomata from both field collections as well as axenic culture, which have been reported previously as variable features at intraspecific levels, were compared to evaluate the taxonomic reliability of these features. To clarify the generic position of the 11 species, phylogenetic analyses were done on SSU-ITS-LSU-tef1-rpb2 gene sequences. The Lo. bipolare complex shared phylogenetic relationships with Pseudolophiostoma and Vaginatispora, and formed an additional five distinct clades from other members of Lophiostomataceae. According to its phylogenetic position, Lo. bipolare sensu stricto was distantly related to Lophiostoma s. str., and formed an independent clade within Lophiostomataceae. Lophiostoma bipolare s. str. could be distinguished from the other lophiostomataceous genera by the clypeus around the ostiolar neck and by the thin and uniformly thick peridium. A novel genus described as Lentistoma was established to accommodate this species, and the epitypification of Lentistoma bipolare (basionym: Massarina bipolaris) was proposed. Other lineages of the Lo. bipolare complex could not be separated on the basis of the ascospore size and sheath variations, but were distinguished based on ascomatal features, such as the existence of the clypeus, brown hyphae surrounding the peridium, and the contexture of the peridium, which were stable indicators of generic boundaries in Lophiostomataceae. Four additional new genera with five new species were recognised based on these morphological differences: Crassiclypeus (C. aquaticus), Flabellascoma (F. cycadicola and F. minimum), Leptoparies (Lep. palmarum), and Pseudopaucispora (Pseudop. brunneospora). Three new species were added to Pseudolophiostoma (Pseudol. cornisporum, Pseudol. obtusisporum, and Pseudol. tropicum) and two new species were added to Vaginatispora (V. amygdali and V. scabrispora). The re-evaluation of the validity of several previously recognised genera resulted in the introduction of two new genera with new combinations for Lophiostoma pseudoarmatisporum as Parapaucispora pseudoarmatispora and Vaginatispora fuckelii as Neovaginatispora fuckelii.

Abstract

Background The intradermal (ID) route for vaccination represents an effective alternative to subcutaneous (SC)/intramuscular administration to induce protective immunity. However, a critical issue associated with ID vaccination is the precise delivery of solution in the upper dermis, which ensures enhanced immunity. Methods We fabricated a hollow microneedle unit made of poly-glycolic acid by injection molding and bonding, and created a dedicated prototype injector. To ensure ID delivery of solution, the injected site was macroscopically and microscopically examined. Serum immunoglobulin G antibody production was measured by enzyme immunoassay and compared in groups of rats following either ID delivery with microneedles or SC administration with a 27-G stainless needle of graded vaccine doses. Results The unit used a tandem array of six microneedles, each with a side delivery hole, and a conduit inside for solution. Microneedles installed in the injector punctured the skin with the aid of a spring. Injection of solution formed a wheal due to ID distribution. Histologically, a wedge-shaped skin defect in the upper skin corresponded to each puncture site. Antibody titers following vaccinations on days 1 and 8 were significantly higher with ID injection than with SC delivery on day 15 and every 7 days thereafter until day 36 with mumps vaccination, and until day 36 with varicella vaccination. Conclusions The microneedle unit presented here delivered solution intradermally without any difficulty and evoked antibody responses against viruses even with the reduced vaccine volume. Our findings confirm promising results of ID delivery as an immunogenic option to enhance vaccination efficacy.

112. Spin-transfer torque in nonuniform magnetic structures

Abstract

This chapter defines a magnetic domain wall (DW) as the transition region where the direction of magnetic moments gradually change between two neighbouring domains. It has been pointed out that ferromagnetic materials are not necessarily magnetized to saturation in the absence of an external magnetic field. Instead, they have magnetic domains, within each of which magnetic moments align. The formation of the magnetic domains is energetically favourable because this structure can lower the magnetostatic energy originating from the dipole–dipole interaction. A magnetic vortex realized in a ferromagnetic disk is a typical example of nonuniform magnetic structure. In very small ferromagnetic systems, where a curling spin configuration has been proposed to occur in place of domains, the formation of DWs is not energetically favored.

Abstract

The study of the perovskite manganites La0.47Ca0.53Mn1-xCuxO3 with x = 0, 0.06, 0.09, and 0.13 has been done. The magnetic structure was determined using high-resolution neutron scattering at room temperature and low temperature. All samples were paramagnetic at room temperature and antiferromagnetic at low temperature. Using the SQUID Quantum Design, the samples showed that the doping of the insulating antiferromagnetic phase La0.47Ca0.53MnO3 with Cu doping resulted in the temperature transition from an insulator to metal state, and an antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase. The temperature transition from an insulator to metal state ranged from 23 to 100 K and from 200 to 230 K for the transition from an antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase.

Background:There are only very few reports of cervical toxoplasma lymphadenitis being diagnosed exclusively via fine-needle aspiration cytology (with serology).Case report:We describe a case of toxoplasma lymphadenitis that was successfully diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology. The case involved a male patient who was immunocompromised as a result of recurrent acute myelogenous leukaemia with cervical lymphadenopathy. The biopsy showed typical features of a well-defined pseudocyst containing Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites.Conclusion:Toxoplasma lymphadenitis is a common cause of lymph node enlargement. Fine-needle aspiration cytology is a useful method for diagnosing and differentiating toxoplasma lymphadenitis from more serious causes of lymphadenopathy, such as metastatic lymphadenopathy or lymphoma.

Abstract

Accurate assessment of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and their redistribution among the atmosphere, ocean, and terrestrial biosphere is important to better understand the global carbon cycle, support the development of climate policies, and project future climate change. Here we describe data sets and a methodology to quantify all major components of the global carbon budget, including their uncertainties, based on the combination of a range of data, algorithms, statistics and model estimates and their interpretation by a broad scientific community. We discuss changes compared to previous estimates, consistency within and among components, alongside methodology and data limitations. CO2 emissions from fossil-fuel combustion and cement production (EFF) are based on energy statistics, while emissions from land-use change (ELUC), mainly deforestation, are based on combined evidence from land-cover change data, fire activity associated with deforestation, and models. The global atmospheric CO2 concentration is measured directly and its rate of growth (G ATM) is computed from the annual changes in concentration. The mean ocean CO2 sink (SOCEAN) is based on observations from the 1990s, while the annual anomalies and trends are estimated with ocean models. The variability in SOCEAN is evaluated for the first time in this budget with data products based on surveys of ocean CO2 measurements. The global residual terrestrial CO2 sink (SLAND) is estimated by the difference of the other terms of the global carbon budget and compared to results of independent dynamic global vegetation models forced by observed climate, CO2 and land cover change (some including nitrogen-carbon interactions). All uncertainties are reported as ±1σ ,reflecting the current capacity to characterise the annual estimates of each component of the global carbon budget. For the last decade available (2003-2012), EFF was 8.6±0.4 GtC yr-1, ELUC 0.9±0.5 GtC yr-1, GATM 4.3±0.1 GtC yr-1, SOCEAN 2.5±0.5 GtC yr -1, and SLAND 2.8±0.8 GtC yr-1. For year 2012 alone, EFF grew to 9.7±0.5 GtC yr-1, 2.2% above 2011, reflecting a continued growing trend in these emissions, G ATM was 5.1±0.2 GtC yr-1, SOCEAN was 2.9±0.5 GtC yr-1, and assuming an ELUC of 1.0±0.5 GtC yr-1 (based on the 2001-2010 average), S LAND was 2.7±0.9 GtC yr-1. GATM was high in 2012 compared to the 2003-2012 average, almost entirely reflecting the high EFF. The global atmospheric CO2 concentration reached 392.52±0.10 ppm averaged over 2012. We estimate that EFF will increase by 2.1% (1.1- 3.1 %) to 9.9±0.5 GtC in 2013, 61% above emissions in 1990, based on projections of world gross domestic product and recent changes in the carbon intensity of the economy.With this projection, cumulative emissions ofCO2 will reach about 535±55 GtC for 1870-2013, about 70% from EFF (390±20 GtC) and 30% from ELUC (145±50 GtC). This paper also documents any changes in the methods and data sets used in this new carbon budget from previous budgets (Le Quéré et al. 2013). Abstract

Background Salvage chemotherapy after immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment has been reported to increase the antitumor effect. There are also some reports that activation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) / its receptor (VEGFR) signal is one of the ICI resistant mechanism, and that combination therapy of VEGF / VEGFR inhibitor and ICI had synergistic effect. In ICI pretreated patients, docetaxel and ramucirumab combination therapy (DOC+RAM) may be more effective. In order to verify this hypothesis, the retrospective observation study was conducted. Methods From June 2013 to July 2018, in 39 patients with advanced / recurrent non-small cell lung cancer who underwent DOC+RAM therapy at our hospital the efficacy and safety were analysed based on the presence (pre-ICI+) or absence (pre-ICI-) of ICI pretreatment history. Results Of the 39 patients treated with DOC+RAM, 18 (pre-ICI+: 46%) patients had been pretreated with ICI. The characteristics (pre-ICI+/ pre-ICI-) were as follows; median age was 67/65 years, median treatment line was 3/3, ECOG PS:0,1 was 94%/86%, 83%/48% were male, 72%/95% had adenocarcinoma, and 89%/67% were smokers, PD-L1status ≧50% was 6%/5%, 11%/38% had EGFR mutation. The ORRs for DOC+RAM in pre-ICI+ and pre-ICI- were 38.9% vs. 19.0%, respectively (p = 0.29). Median progression free survival was 5.7 vs. 2.3 months (hazard ratio (HR), 0.36; 95% confidential interval [CI], 0.16-0.80). Median overall survival was 13.8 vs. 10.5 months (HR, 0.41; 95% [CI], 0.16-1.04). Because of adverse events, nine patients (50%) in pre-ICI+ group and two patients (9.5%) in pre-ICI- group discontinued DOC+RAM therapy. Adverse events such as fever (50%/38%), myalgia (39%/9.5%), arthritis (33%/4.8%), pleural effusion (22%/4.8%) and pneumonitis (17%/4.8%) tended to be more frequent in pre-ICI+ group. There were no grade 5 AEs. Conclusions In this study, statistically significant prolongation of PFS, the tendency of tumor regression improvement and OS prolongation achieved by DOC + RAM, and the concern of increased toxicity were shown in pre-ICI+ patients. Abstract

Abstract We review lattice results related to pion, kaon, D-meson, B-meson, and nucleon physics with the aim of making them easily accessible to the nuclear and particle physics communities. More specifically, we report on the determination of the light-quark masses, the form factor $$f_+(0)$$ f + ( 0 ) arising in the semileptonic $$K \rightarrow \pi $$ K → π transition at zero momentum transfer, as well as the decay constant ratio $$f_K/f_\pi $$ f K / f π and its consequences for the CKM matrix elements $$V_{us}$$ V us and $$V_{ud}$$ V ud . Furthermore, we describe the results obtained on the lattice for some of the low-energy constants of $$SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$$ S U ( 2 ) L × S U ( 2 ) R and $$SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$$ S U ( 3 ) L × S U ( 3 ) R Chiral Perturbation Theory. We review the determination of the $$B_K$$ B K parameter of neutral kaon mixing as well as the additional four B parameters that arise in theories of physics beyond the Standard Model. For the heavy-quark sector, we provide results for $$m_c$$ m c and $$m_b$$ m b as well as those for the decay constants, form factors, and mixing parameters of charmed and bottom mesons and baryons. These are the heavy-quark quantities most relevant for the determination of CKM matrix elements and the global CKM unitarity-triangle fit. We review the status of lattice determinations of the strong coupling constant $$\alpha _s$$ α s . We consider nucleon matrix elements, and review the determinations of the axial, scalar and tensor bilinears, both isovector and flavor diagonal. Finally, in this review we have added a new section reviewing determinations of scale-setting quantities.

Abstract

Joining technologies for F82H steels are important issues for the development of fusion energy. The hot isostatic pressing (HIP) method is appropriate for consolidating the first wall of the blanket because of the flexibility of the shape of HIPed products. The HIP method is planned for fabricating a complex-shaped first wall component with built-in cooling channels; thus, accumulation of studies of microstructural and mechanical property changes, especially lower toughness of the HIPed joints, is essential. Present research aims to reveal the microstructural evolution of F82H joints fabricated by the HIP method compared with joints fabricated by hot pressing, focusing on the formation of oxides on the interface. F82H joints were characterized using 1/3-scale Charpy V-notch impact test, transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, and electron probe analysis to survey the microstructural characteristics of the interface.

Abstract

Reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steels (RAFMs), such as F82H steels, have been developed as candidates of structural materials for fusion. In the design of a fusion reactor, cooling channels are built in the first wall of the blanket. One large issue is to determine how to join rectangular tubes to thin panels to fabricate the first wall. Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIPing) is a solution to solve the issue. Because of the thin HIPed walls of the channels, the specimen size for inspection of HIPed interface is limited. In the present research, Small Specimen Test Techniques (SSTT) are screened for the destructive toughness investigation technique of HIPed F82H joints. 1/3 size Charpy V-notch impact (1/3 CVN) and small punch (SP) tests are employed for the present research. The toughness of the HIPed joints is strongly affected by various surface finishing of specimens treated previous to the HIPing. In the present research, several kinds of HIPed joints were surface finished by different methods and investigated by 1/3 CVN impact test. The HIPed F82H joints had different toughness ranging from 20% to 70% of the toughness of the F82H base metal. The SP test is also available for the investigation of toughness change by the HIPing. The sensitivity of 1/3 CVN impact test against toughness change was better than the SP test, it revealed that the SP test has some limitations.

Abstract

A rapid polarization control in paraelectric materials is important for an ultrafast optical switching useful in the future optical communication. In this study, we applied terahertz-pump second-harmonic-generation-probe and optical-reflectivity-probe spectroscopies to the paraelectric neutral phase of an organic molecular dielectric, tetrathiafulvalene-p-chloranil and revealed that a terahertz pulse with the electric-field amplitude of ∼400 kV/cm produces in the subpicosecond time scale a large macroscopic polarization whose magnitude reaches ∼20% of that in the ferroelectric ionic phase. Such a large polarization generation is attributed to the intermolecular charge transfers and breathing motions of domain walls between microscopic neutral and ionic domains induced by the terahertz electric field.

Abstract

The rotating waveplate Stokes polarimeter was developed for ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) poloidal polarimeter. The generalized model of the rotating waveplate Stokes polarimeter and the algorithm suitable for real-time field-programmable gate array (FPGA) processing were proposed. Since the generalized model takes into account each component associated with the rotation of the waveplate, the Stokes parameters can be accurately measured even in unideal condition such as non-uniformity of the waveplate retardation. Experiments using a He-Ne laser showed that the maximum error and the precision of the Stokes parameter were 3.5% and 1.2%, respectively. The rotation speed of waveplate was 20 000 rpm and time resolution of measuring the Stokes parameter was 3.3 ms. Software emulation showed that the real-time measurement of the Stokes parameter with time resolution of less than 10 ms is possible by using several FPGA boards. Evaluation of measurement capability using a far-infrared laser which ITER poloidal polarimeter will use concluded that measurement error will be reduced by a factor of nine.

Abstract

Sputtering yields of tungsten from tungsten containing deuterium (D 2 ) and tungsten containing carbon (C) atoms bombarded by deuterium and carbon atoms are calculated with a Monte Carlo code ACAT. The ACAT results have shown that the tungsten sputtering yields are changed by carbon retention in tungsten. The tungsten sputtering yield by deuterium bombardment around the sputtering threshold for pure tungsten have been enlarged by two mechanisms; one is the reduction in sputtering threshold due to smaller surface binding energy, the other is the enhanced development of collision cascade. As the carbon bombarding energy exceeds 200–300 eV, the sputtering yields for tungsten retaining deuterium and carbon become smaller due to the reduction in density of tungsten target atoms.

Abstract

The analytical form for the reconstructed field of a hologram illuminated by a reference beam coded with a multicolored aperture array filter is derived. Experiments showed that the colored aperture array filter improved the quality of the reconstructed image by reducing the intensity of crosstalk images. Some parameters of the aperture array configuration that influence image quality were investigated. This technique presented here can be applied to full-color holographic displays and dot matrix holographic printers, etc.

Diabet. Med. 28, 96–99 (2011) Abstract Aims Previous studies have implicated reduced serum bilirubin concentrations in the development of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to examine whether bilirubin may explain the high incidence of vascular complications in haemodialysis patients with Type 2 diabetes. Methods We compared serum bilirubin concentrations, as well as other known aetiological risk factors for cardiovascular disease, in 206 Type 2 diabetes patients on haemodialysis with those in 741 Type 2 diabetes patients not receiving haemodialysis, and evaluated the association between serum bilirubin concentration and cardiovascular disease incidence. Results Incidences of cardiovascular disease and systolic blood pressure were higher; however, BMI and serum total cholesterol were lower in haemodialysis patients compared with those in patients without haemodialysis. Abstract

The steam parameters in the new high efficiency fossil fuel power plants are continuously increasing, requiring new advanced materials with enhanced creep strength able to operate on the most severe temperature and pressure conditions. For super-heater and re-heater applications, TEMPALOY AA-1 steel, an evolution of 18Cr10NiNbTi alloy, has been developed through the addition of 3%Cu and B, significantly enhancing the creep resistance, while offering typical corrosion properties of 18%Cr steels. This paper describes Tenaris’ tubular products in the field of austenitic grades for applications in Ultra Super Critical power plants: the production route and the main microstructural and mechanical properties of TEMPALOY AA-1 and TEMPALOY A-3 steels, including the effect of shot blasting on steam-oxidation resistance, their creep–rupture properties and their microstructural evolution during temperature exposure are presented.

Abstract

This paper introduces a practical inter-color up-sampling algorithm for images with decimated chrominance components. Most of the existing and emerging image and video compression coding standards such as JPEG, MPEG and H.26x families employ YCbCr4:2:0 chrominance format. After reconstructing the YCbCr4:2:0 image at a decoder, one must up-sample the decoded chrominance signals by a factor of two in both horizontal and vertical directions to generate the YCbCr4:4:4 format image, which is eventually transformed to RGB color space especially for displaying the reconstructed image. Then, we focus on generating high-fidelity RGB image, (but not an intermediate YCbCr image), and propose an innovative up-sampling algorithm that exploits the RGB inter-channel correlation. This is based on the fact that the RGB inter-channel correlation is usually higher than the YCbCr inter-channel correlation. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art method and a bi-linear method with regard to the objective quality measures. In addition, the proposed algorithm is less expensive than the state-of-the-art technology in terms of the resource requirements.

Abstract

Previously we identified a fraction of follicular fluid (follicle regulatory protein: FRP) which inhibits granulosa cell aromatase activity. During the course of these studies the question of FRP acting via autocrine as well as paracrine mechanisms arose in addition to the need for a more efficient method of screening for aromatase inhibitory activity during the purification of FRP. Accordingly, we assessed the effects of FRP on aromatase activity in a microsomal assay. Placental microsome preparations were preincubated for 20 minutes with or without FRP prior to a 20 minute incubation with testosterone. Significantly less conversion of testosterone to estrogen occurred with FRP compared to control preincubation. When follicular protein was added without pre-incubation, there was no apparent change in microsomal aromatase activity, whereas after a 20 minute pre-incubation with the follicular protein fraction, significantly less testosterone was converted into estrogen. When various concentrations of FRP were assayed in the placental aromatase assay, a dose-response curve demonstrated a 50% inhibitory dose (ID50) of approximately 400 micrograms/ml. To further purify the aromatase inhibitory activity, 5 mg of the crude follicular fluid preparation was eluted through an anion exchange column via HPLC using a sodium acetate gradient. The fractions in the central elution peak contained aromatase inhibitor activity with ID50 values of 25-160 micrograms/ml. Thus Fractions were further purified by elution through a gel exclusion column via HPLC which demonstrated inhibition of cell free placental aromatase activity in the 15,000-18,000 molecular weight range with an ID50 of 5 micrograms/ml.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract

We calculated, with a dynamic Monte Carlo code ACAT-DIFFUSE, fluxes of thermal D2 re-emission, reflection and segregated self-sputtering of D from a D+ implanted wrought tungsten material during a time sequence of l00 eV D+ implantation, post-implanted isothermal out-gassing and thermal desorption spectroscopy. The obtained result was in good agreement with an existing experiment if two different trap sites with de-trapping energy of 0.85 eV and 2.2 eV and density fraction of 0.05 D/W and 0.01 D/W were assumed to exist. The re-emission, reflection and self-sputtering fluxes in the implantation period were shown to be almost comparable. The integrated deuterium flux released in the same period was estimated. The amount of deuterium retained at 300 K was nearly six times higher than that at 473 K, which reflects the result that mobile atoms and atoms trapped in 0.85 eV trap existed abundantly at 300 K but scarcely at 473 K.

Abstract

We have proposed a single metal/dual high-k gate stack for aggressively scaled complementary metal-insulator-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MISFETs). The threshold voltage is controlled by the dual high-k dielectrics, such as MgO- and Al2O3-containing HfSiON for n- and p-type MISFETs, respectively. The gate profile is precisely controlled by taking advantage of a common gate electrode, which will suppress the variation in device performance. Based on this device concept, we have actually fabricated W/TiN/HfMgSiON n-type MISFETs and W/TiN/HfAlSiO p-type MISFETs and have successfully demonstrated a low threshold voltage operation for both of n- and p-type MISFETs.

Abstract

A congestion-controlled optical burst switching network that offers connection guarantees was designed to handle bursts as short as 100 ms with switching within 10 ms in networks less than 200 km long. Its optical burst switching (OBS) is based on circuit switching, and transport is by optical burst paths. Five metrics are proposed for evaluating OBS network performance. The application area to be laid and the data application were determined in accordance with the design target. Given a reasonable burst block probability requirement, design criteria are developed on the basis of wavelength switching and conversion implementation. OBS network performance is tested in field trials on the Japan Gigabit Network II testbed. Fast congestion control through the use of precalculated detour routes is demonstrated.
