On June 30, 2021, 23 years after its establishment, the activity of "Zdrowie" [Eng. Health] Rehabilitation Centre in Kraków came to an end. At the “Zdrowie” Rehabilitation Centre, this was done through appropriate personalised treatment, mainly rehabilitation, and since its inception, the centre had promoted not only the treatment of diseases, the consequences of traumatic injuries and the resulting disability, but most of all, their prevention. In 1998, as one of the first centres in Poland, the “Zdrowie” Rehabilitation Centre began routinely carrying out pedobarographic examinations, to an extent not found in other places at that time. Since 2006, photogrammetric testing has also been performed. What definitely distinguished the Centre, not only in Kraków, but also on the Polish medical market, was, among others, its scientific activity. Based on the Centre's professional and scientific achievements, sixteen M.A. one B.A, three doctoral dissertations, articles published in reputable journals with the Impact Factor (IF) index and scores from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) or the Ministry of Science and Education (MNiE) were prepared.

The main aim of the paper is to analyse and evaluate the possible relation between taking up of the circular behaviours by the households’ members and perceiving the benefits. The paper presents the results of the research conducted among Polish households on the territory of two voivodeships: Podkarpackie and Małopolskie. In the article the authors present the result of the statistical analysis of the frequency of undertaking those behaviours in the households and perception of the benefits. To indicate the possible dependences the Chi2 Test of Independence and The U Mann-Whitney Test were used. Obtained results indicate that undertaking circular behaviours may have an influence on the perceived benefits of varying magnitude. It could be important due to the establishment of support activities aiming at increasing the overall level of circularity among the households (as an economic sector). The originality of the research consists the methodology used and novel questionnaire prepared by one of the authors. The questionnaire joins 9R’s circularity concept (normally used in circularity assessments in business companies) with typically households’ behaviours. Background: The objective of the study was to assess the functional status of people who regularly climb for recreational purposes, using the FMS (Functional Movement Screen) and core stability tests (McGill's torso muscular endurance test battery). In this paper, an attempt is also made to determine the relationship between assessment of functional efficiency and the results obtained in core stability tests. Material and methods: The study group comprised 30 amateur climbers (aged 26 ± 3), who were compared to a control group of 30 people who do not climb but recreationally practice volleyball (aged 22 ± 3). Abstract In the DECODE project, data were collected from 3,114 surveys filled by symptomatic patients RT-qPCR tested for SARS-CoV-2 in a single university centre in March-September 2020. The population demonstrated balanced sex and age with 759 SARS-CoV-2( +) patients. The most discriminative symptoms in SARS-CoV-2( +) patients at early infection stage were loss of taste/smell (OR = 3.33, p 38℃ with cough was most frequent in men (20%), while loss of taste/smell with cough in women (17%). For younger people, taste/smell impairment is sufficient to characterise infection, whereas in older patients co-occurrence of fever and cough is necessary. The presented study objectifies the single symptoms and interactions significance in COVID-19 diagnoses and demonstrates diverse symptomatology in patient groups.

According to the dual systems model, adolescence is a periodof imbalance between cognitive and motivational systems thatresults in increased tendency towards risk. In the study, weinvestigated the effects of rewards on risk-taking andcognitive control in 90 adolescents (13-16) and 96 adults (18-35). Our results challenge the assumptions of the model as weobserved that rewards lead adolescents to more conservativedecisions in one of the risk tasks used in the study. We alsoobserved that in cognitive control tasks, rewards influencedreaction latencies, but not the efficiency of control processes.

Molds pose a severe challenge to agriculture because they cause very large crop losses. For this reason, synthetic fungicides have been used for a long time. Without adequate protection against pests and various pathogens, crop losses could be as high as 30–40%. However, concerns mainly about the environmental impact of synthetic antifungals and human health risk have prompted a search for natural alternatives. But do natural remedies only have advantages? This article reviews the current state of knowledge on the use of antifungal substances in agriculture to protect seeds against phytopathogens. The advantages and disadvantages of using both synthetic and natural fungicides to protect cereal grains were discussed, indicating specific examples and mechanisms of action. The possibilities of an integrated control approach, combining cultural, biological, and chemical methods are described, constituting a holistic strategy for sustainable mold management in the grain industry. The authors examine youth activism in Poland, focusing on the University of Gdańsk occupation, the Youth Climate Strike, and Stop Bzdurom’s direct actions. Using critical pedagogy of place, they analyse how youth activists drive social change and reclaim public spaces. The study highlights reinhabitation and decolonisation of public spaces as arenas for the common good and marginalised communities’ rights. It also explores the influence of radicalism and activism on society, particularly amid an ageing population and political polarisation. There is increasing evidence that vitamin D (VitD) supplementation may reduce inflammation in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different doses of VitD on selected markers of inflammation in patients with relapsing–remitting MS (RRMS). Participants were divided depending on the supplemented dose of VitD into a high-dose (2000 IU/d; HD) group and a low-dose (15,960 IU/month; LD) group (n = 23 and n = 29, respectively). The concentration of 25(OH)D and the levels of CXCL16, PTX3, ALCAM, IL-1RA, and OPG were measured initially and after six months of VitD supplementation in blood serum. A significant increase in the concentrations of CXCL16, PTX3, and OPG was observed during the study (p = 0.02, p = 0.01, and p < 0.01, respectively). Furthermore, a higher increase in PTX3 and OPG in the LD group was observed (p = 0.04 and p = 0.03, respectively). A significant positive correlation was observed between the 25(OH)D serum concentration and PTX3 (R = 0.28, p < 0.05) and OPG (R = 0.28, p < 0.05) only at the beginning of the study. In patients with RRMS, such doses of VitD might be too low to induce obvious beneficial effects on the pro-inflammatory and inflammatory balance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ophidiomyces ophidiicola, the causative agent of ophidiomycosis, poses a potential threat to wild snakes worldwide. This study aimed to retrospectively investigate the prevalence of O. ophidiicola in archived snake moults collected from the San River Valley in the Bieszczady Mountains, Poland, from 2010 to 2012. Using qPCR for O. ophidiicola detection and conventional PCR for clade characterisation, we analysed 58 moults and one road-killed specimen of Zamenis longissimus and Natrix natrix. A novel combination of primers (ITS2L) was used to simultaneously confirm SYBR Green-based qPCR results and perform genotyping. O. ophidiicola has been detected from two Z. longissimus and one N. natrix specimens. The identified clade (I-B) is consistent with those found in wild snakes of eastern Europe and San River Valley, indicating that O. ophidiicola has been present in this region for at least a decade. This study underscores the value of historical samples in understanding the long-term presence of pathogens and highlights the potential role of environmental reservoirs in the persistence of O. ophidiicola. Our findings are crucial for informing conservation strategies for the endangered Aesculapian snake populations in Poland, emphasising the need for ongoing monitoring and habitat management to mitigate the potential impact of ophidiomycosis. Cytokines regulate immune responses and are crucial to MS pathogenesis. This study evaluated pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine concentrations in the CSF of de novo diagnosed RRMS patients compared to healthy controls. We assessed cytokine levels in the CSF of 118 de novo diagnosed RRMS patients and 112 controls, analyzing relationships with time from symptom onset to diagnosis, MRI lesions, and serum vitamin D levels. Elevated levels of IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-13, FGF-basic, and GM-CSF, and lower levels of IL-1β, IL-1RA, IL-5, IL-7, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-15, G-CSF, PDGF-bb, and VEGF were observed in RRMS patients compared to controls. IL-2, IL-4, IL-12p70, PDGF, G-CSF, GM-CSF, and FGF-basic levels increased over time, while IL-10 decreased. IL-1β, IL-1RA, IL-6, TNF-α, and PDGF-bb levels negatively correlated with serum vitamin D. TNF-α levels positively correlated with post-contrast-enhancing brain lesions. IL-15 levels negatively correlated with T2 and Gd(+) lesions in C-spine MRI, while TNF-α, PDGF-bb, and FGF-basic correlated positively with T2 lesions in C-spine MRI. IL-6 levels positively correlated with post-contrast-enhancing lesions in Th-spine MRI. Distinct cytokine profiles in the CSF of de novo diagnosed MS patients provide insights into MS pathogenesis and guide immunomodulatory therapy strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
