- Abstract
Young solar-type stars grow through the accretion of material from the circumstellar disk during pre-main-sequence (PMS) evolution. The ultraviolet radiation generated in this process plays a key role in the chemistry and evolution of young planetary disks. In particular, the hydrogen Ly alpha line (Ly alpha) etches the disk surface by driving photoevaporative flows that control disk evolution. Using the Hubble Space Telescope, we have monitored the PMS binary star AK. Sco during the periastron passage and have detected a drop of the H-2 flux by up to 10% lasting 5.9 hr. We show that the decrease of the H-2 flux can be produced by the occultation of the stellar Ly alpha photons by a gas stream in free fall from 3. R*. Given the high optical depth of the Ly alpha line, a very low gas column of N-H 5 10 > 10(17) cm(-2) suffices to block the Ly alpha radiation without producing noticeable effects in the rest of the stellar spectral tracers., Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO), HST Guest Observer program, Russian Science Foundation, Unidad Deptal. de Astronomía y Geodesia, Fac. de Ciencias Matemáticas, TRUE, pub

A sample of $1.3 \times 10^5 K^+ \to \pi^0 e^+ \nu \gamma$ candidates with less than 1% background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017-2018. Branching fraction measurements are obtained at percent relative precision in three restricted kinematic regions, improving on existing results by a factor larger than two. An asymmetry, possibly related to T-violation, is investigated with no evidence observed within the achieved precision. Electromagnetic processes of charged particles interaction with oriented crystals provide a wide variety of innovative applications such as beam steering, crystal-based extraction/collimation of leptons and hadrons in an accelerator, a fixed-target experiment on magnetic and electric dipole moment measurement, X-ray and gamma radiation source for radiotherapy and nuclear physics and a positron source for lepton and muon colliders, a compact crystalline calorimeter as well as plasma acceleration in the crystal media. One of the main challenges is to develop an up-to-date, universal and fast simulation tool to simulate these applications. We present a new simulation model of electromagnetic processes in oriented crystals implemented into Geant4, which is a toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matter. We validate the model with the experimental data as well as discuss the advantages and perspectives of this model for the applications of oriented crystals mentioned above., 18 pages, 9 figures

Experimental results and simulation models show that crystals might play a relevant role for the development of new generations of high-energy and high-intensity particle accelerators and might disclose innovative possibilities at existing ones. In this paper we describe the most advanced manufacturing techniques of crystals suitable for operations at ultrahigh energy and ultrahigh intensity particle accelerators, reporting as an example of potential application the collimation of the particle beams circulating in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which will be upgraded through the addition of bent crystals in the frame of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider project.

Numerous publications show that, depending on the type of pathology, protein-energy malnutrition develops in 20– 50 % of surgical patients directly in the hospital in the early postoperative period. Rather a great number of patients with surgical diseases are already hospitalized with varying degrees of malnutrition. From 30 % to 69 % of patients are admitted to the hospital with I–III grade of protein-energy malnutrition and require mandatory nutritional support. Risk factors for protein-energy malnutrition development are determined in 60–70 % of hospitalized patients. This clinical practice recommendations present the basic principles of nutritional support in the perioperative period.

Measurement of the ultra-rare $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar\nu$ decay at the NA62 experiment at CERN requires high-performance particle identification to distinguish muons from pions. Calorimetric identification currently in use, based on a boosted decision tree algorithm, achieves a muon misidentification probability of $1.2\times 10^{-5}$ for a pion identification efficiency of 75% in the momentum range of 15-40 GeV/$c$. In this work, calorimetric identification performance is improved by developing an algorithm based on a convolutional neural network classifier augmented by a filter. Muon misidentification probability is reduced by a factor of six with respect to the current value for a fixed pion-identification efficiency of 75%. Alternatively, pion identification efficiency is improved from 72% to 91% for a fixed muon misidentification probability of $10^{-5}$., Comment: Updated author list and Ref. 4

A timely and long-term programme of kaon decay measurements at a new level of precision is presented, leveraging the capabilities of the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). The proposed programme is firmly anchored on the experience built up studying kaon decays at the SPS over the past four decades, and includes rare processes, CP violation, dark sectors, symmetry tests and other tests of the Standard Model. The experimental programme is based on a staged approach involving experiments with charged and neutral kaon beams, as well as operation in beam-dump mode. The various phases will rely on a common infrastructure and set of detectors.

Nowotny chimney ladder (NCL) phases are intermetallic compounds formed by transition metals and metals of groups 13 and 14. This family can be expanded by combining two p-elements from different groups with those transition metals, for which the corresponding binary NCL phases are unknown. In this paper, we present three new compounds in the V-Al-Ge, Nb-Al-Ge, and Nb-Ga-Ge systems related to the TiSi2 structure type (Sp. Gr. Fddd) obtained with the standard ampule technique. The crystal structures of the new compounds were determined using synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction data. A transition to the CrSi2 structure type was detected upon changing the composition from VAl0.72(2)Ge1.28(2) to VAl1.534(3)Ge0.466(3). According to the 18–n rule, all the compounds are metallic conductors, which was supported by the electronic structure calculations. It was shown that the expected energy gap located above the Fermi level in the vanadium-based NCL compound collapsed into a pseudogap upon the replacement of V by Nb.

The article deals with estimating economic efficiency of a robotic complex (RC) at the EFKO group plant which stacks ready dairy products on trays and in bottles from 6 production lines onto pallets using a palletizer robot and conveyor equipment for products and pallets. The authors demonstrate an RC scheme with the description of its components. They have collected and analyzed the information on the current productivity, weight and size characteristics and location of production lines of a robotic complex for stacking dairy products. The article presents the principle for calculating the required productivity and lifting capacity of the palletizer robot. The authors demonstrate a preproduction model mounted at the EFKO group plant. The complex makes it possible to reduce the labor intensity, improve the quality of stacking, decrease the number of human errors. Its implementation and exploitation will reduce the number of employees. The article presents calculations of economic effect on the stage of planning and after the project’s realization. To this end the authors use traditional methods of investment and qualitative analysis. They determine basic economic indicators such as the amount of capital investments and the terms of the RC implementation, change in the number of staff, maintenance costs, reduction of the “working” area of the warehouse due to the placement of the equipment. The article contains the basic landmarks for determining the standard payback period. According to the data received the authors additionally calculated the indicators of economic efficiency: profitability ratio of capital investment into automation, percentage reduction in unit cost, labor productivity growth. The authors monitored the RC performance efficiency after its implementation at a real production plant of the EFKO group. In conclusion they compare the results of the monitoring with the calculations of the economic effect made at the planning stage. The results adduced can be useful for those who develop automation equipment for packing and storing, and to those who are interested in productivity and quality improvement.

Atomic and Molecular Physics, and Optics - Abstract
Abstract Bent crystals are a compact and versatile tool to manipulate ultra-relativistic particle beams in accelerators. Indeed, the unrivaled steering power achievable exploiting channeling of particles between the atomic planes is comparable to that of a $$10^{2-3}$$ 10 2 - 3 Tesla magnetic dipole. Since the first experiments in the 1980s, extensive research has been delivering important results for new physics experiments and applications in accelerators. The substantial technological development, accompanied by reliable Monte Carlo simulations, has increased the steering efficiency from a few % to the intrinsic maximum efficiency of $$\sim 80\%$$ ∼ 80 % , limited by scattering of the particles with nuclei inside the crystal. The recently started two-year (2022–2023) project GALORE of INFN aims to assess experimentally the possibility to overcome this hard limit by developing a new generation of bent crystals, featuring an innovative geometry characterized by a crystalline microstructure which influences particle dynamic in the crystal lattice to boost efficiency close to 100%. The manufacturing process will exploit well-established techniques developed for silicon microelectronics, and experimental testing will be carried out at the extracted beamlines of CERN North Area with high-energy hadron beams. The success of this project could strongly impact the employment of bent crystal in frontier energy accelerators, boosting performance of already proposed schemes as well as enabling completely inedited use of bent crystal in particle physics experiment in accelerators. In the blood serum of 93 patients with various localities of the malignant process, the content of nitric oxide (NO), indicators of lipid peroxidation (POL): superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione in red blood cells were determined. 9 patients with ovarian cancer were examined during chemotherapy (6 courses), 40 patients with colon cancer, previously operated, were with malignant liver damage. In 39 patients with anemia, NO indicators were compared with the level of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and hepcidin-25 (GP-25). As a control, 60 practically healthy individuals were examined. It was shown that the NO content was significantly reduced in 69.7% of patients, regardless of the location of the primary tumor. There was a gradual increase in the NO content before each course of chemotherapy. A high concentration of NO (more than 22 µM) was detected in 22 patients with functional iron deficiency (FJ) against the background of anemia of chronic diseases (AHZ), which was accompanied by hyperexpression of IL-6 (27.0±10.5 pg/ml) and GP-25 (25.2±7.1 ng/ml). In contrast, the lowest NO values (less than 22 µM) were observed in 17 patients with IDA. There is no doubt that there is a certain relationship between the development of oxidative stress with the accumulation of highly toxic lipoperoxidation products that affect the overall homeostasis of the body, and the development of anemic syndrome.

The production techniques of radioisotopes for medical purposes is a valuable and important field in nuclear medicine. In particular, the expensive cost of the prime materials for the production via cyclotron obliges the search for new solutions to enhance the production rate with minor upgrades of the current instrumentation. Oriented ordered structure can modify particle trajectories inside a medium leading to a sensible variation of the interaction rate with atomic nuclei. Under specific orientations of the target with respect to the incident beam, the probability of inelastic interaction with nuclei can be enhanced with respect to the standard rate. This effect is called anti-channeling and leads to an increase of the radioisotope production yield. A dedicated set of experimental measurements were carried out at the CN accelerator of the INFN Legnaro Laboratories to investigate nuclear reactions under channeling experiments. In particular, the production of the Arsenic-74 radioisotope through a proton beam delivered to a natural single-crystal Germanium target was monitored via γ-spectroscopy of the prompt γ-rays upon de-excitation of produced nuclei, in order to quantify the production rate variation as a function of the incident angle.

We present the crystalrad simulation code, combining all the features of the crystal simulation code for simulations of charged particles trajectories in a bent crystal and the radcharm++ code for calculation of the radiation spectrum. The crystalrad code is based on Monte Carlo simulations of trajectories in the planar and axial electric field either in a straight, bent, or periodically bent crystal taking into account multiple and single Coulomb scattering on nuclei and electrons, nuclear scattering and ionization energy losses. The trajectories simulated are used for calculation of radiation spectra by the Baier-Katkov method. We compare our simulations with experimental data taken at MAMI (MAinzer MIkrotron) as well as give an example for a possible future study with sub-GeV electrons interacting with Si bent crystals.

Results of comparison of Gaia DR2 parallaxes with data derived from a combined analysis of 2MASS (Two Micron All-Sky Survey), SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey), GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer), and UKIDSS (UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey) surveys in four selected high-latitude | b | > 48° sky areas are presented. It is shown that multicolor photometric data from large modern surveys can be used for parameterization of stars closer than 4400 pc and brighter than g S D S S = 19 . m 6 , including estimation of parallax and interstellar extinction value. However, the stellar luminosity class should be properly determined.

We report the results of a search for dark photon in-flight decays to μ + μ − pairs at NA62. Dark photons could be produced by dumping protons onto a copper-iron absorber, reach the NA62 decay volume more than 80 m downstream of the dump and decay therein. The measurement is based on data collected in 2021 which correspond to 1.4 × 1017 dumped protons.

We present the results of numerical simulation of interacting accretion disks in a T Tauri type binary with elliptic orbit. Using these results we study structure and evolution of the system of shock waves in accretion disks and between them. Finally we discuss the possibility of bringing up an analytical model for accretion disk interaction.

Taking into account interstellar extinction is the necessary procedure in the process of parameterization of stars from multicolor photometry. We analyze published interstellar extinction laws and discuss the possibility of assessing the interstellar extinction in photometric bands of modern large surveys.
