120. Experimental behaviour of very high-strength concrete-encased steel composite column subjected to axial compression and end moment

Abstract

[EN] A type of cost-effective and very high strength concrete (VHSC) with 28-day compressive strength of 100-150 MPa is developed for applications in concrete-encased steel composite column constructions. This paper experimentally investigates the structural behaviour of VHSC encased steel composite columns based on a series of pure compression and eccentric compression tests. It is found that such high-strength composite column exhibits brittle post peak behaviour and low ductility but with acceptable compressive resistance. Throughout the tests, the main failure of VHSC encased column under compressive load is brittle spalling of concrete followed by local buckling of the reinforcement bars. The splitting and slippage may occur between concrete and steel section due to bending downward action. The confinement effect by the shear stirrups designed based on normal reinforced concrete codes may not be sufficient. Composite column subjected to initial flexural cracking due to end moment load with large eccentricity may experience degradation in the stiffness and ultimate resistance so that plastic design resistance may not be achieved. Analytical studies show that the N-M interaction model based on current design codes may over-predict the combined resistance of the composite columns. Therefore, a modified elastic-plastic design approach based on strain compatibility is developed to evaluate the compressive resistance of concrete encased composite columns. The validation against the test data shows a reasonable and conservative estimation on the combined resistance of VHSC encased composite columns.

121. Design of Core-Pulling Mechanism of Variable Cross-Section Bend of Sprinkler Based on Mathematical Model of Demolding Force.

Abstract

According to the characteristics of the inner wall of curved pipe with variable cross-section and the inner wall of straight pipe, the mathematical model was established for the demolding force of the inner wall of curved pipe by using a calculus method, and the demolding force of the core of connecting pipe was calculated. Based on the obtained results, the demolding mechanism of the inner wall of curved pipe was optimized and designed for the plastic part, and this mechanism was driven by a single oil cylinder to rotate and pull out the core of the two-sector gear bent pipes. On the basis of the demolding mechanism,set in this work, the mold structure of plastic part was composed of a mold with two cavities and a single opening and two-plate mold. In this mold, there are two groups of external thread demolding mechanisms with a Haver slider and a sector gear bent pin core-pulling mechanism driven by a linkage oil cylinder. The die structure is simple and practical, and the action of mechanism is reliable. This design can offer a good reference for design of other similar molds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

136. Ionic liquid-assisted synthesis of α-Fe2O3 mesoporous nanorod arrays and their excellent trimethylamine gas-sensing properties for monitoring fish freshness.

Abstract

Large-scale and well-aligned α-Fe2O3 mesoporous nanorod arrays in situ deposited on ceramic tubes have been successfully synthesized by an ionic liquid (IL)-assisted hydrothermal reaction followed by calcination. The mesoporous sizes of the nanorods can be adjusted by changing the calcination temperature. Such an in situ assembled α-Fe2O3 mesoporous nanorod array sensor exhibited not only high sensitivity, short recovery time and good reproducibility to trimethylamine (TMA), but also a good linear relationship in a ppm level concentration range (0.1–100 ppm). Furthermore, the sensor was evaluated for a fast analysis of the primary volatiles of Carassius auratus (0–11 h) which have been analyzed using headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Such α-Fe2O3 mesoporous nanorod arrays showed considerable potential in the identification of fish freshness. The superior gas-sensing properties of the obtained nanostructures should be attributed to the uniform mesoporous structure in the ordered nanorod arrays with a large specific surface area, as well as an appropriate amount of residual functionalized ILs, which help the TMA molecules to diffuse and adsorb onto the array surface and assist electron transfer. Abstract

Well-defined hierarchical NiO microspheres were in situ deposited on ceramic tubes by a simple ionic liquid (IL)-assisted solvothermal method with subsequent calcination, and the characterization was exclusively confirmed through XRD, SEM, TEM and nitrogen adsorption-desorption techniques. Morphological characterization demonstrated that the nanostructures were constructed of interlaced porous nanosheets. Such NiO microspheres in situ grew onto ceramic tubes to form deposited film sensors, which displayed enhanced H 2 S sensing properties compared with the coated film sensors painted with the powder prepared in the same reaction system. Specifically, the deposited film sensor achieved a response value of 154.2–100 ppm H 2 S at a low working temperature of 92 °C, a fast recovery time of 7.5 s, with the lowest detection limit of 0.1 ppb. The excellent sensing performance should be attributed to the superior reactivity of the porous hierarchical architecture with large specific surface area, which facilitated the gas molecules to adsorb onto the surface and the consequent electron transfer. The reaction mechanism of the sensor to H 2 S was also discussed in detail based on XPS analysis, and was eventually interpreted as the two different kinds of kinetics occurring simultaneously: the oxidation of H 2 S molecules by chemisorbed oxygen, and the NiS formation along with the reaction of H 2 S with NiO. 146. Au-Loaded Hierarchical MoO3Hollow Spheres with Enhanced Gas-Sensing Performance for the Detection of BTX (Benzene, Toluene, And Xylene) And the Sensing Mechanism

Abstract

Monodisperse, hierarchical α-MoO3hollow spheres were fabricated using a facile template-free solvothermal method combined with subsequent calcination. Various quantities of Au nanoparticles (NPs) were deposited on the α-MoO3hollow spheres to construct hybrid nanomaterials for chemical gas sensors and their BTX sensing properties were investigated. The 2.04 wt % Au-loaded α-MoO3sensor can detect BTX effectively at 250 °C, especially, its responses to 100 ppm toluene and xylene are 17.5 and 22.1, respectively, which are 4.6 and 3.9 times higher than those of pure α-MoO3hollow spheres at 290 °C. Besides, Au loading decreased the response times to toluene and xylene from 19 and 6 s to 1.6 and 2 s, respectively, lowered the working temperature from 290 to 250 °C as compared with those of pure α-MoO3. The surface status of Au/α-MoO3hollow spheres before and after contacting with toluene at 250 °C was analyzed through XPS technique. Possible oxidization product of toluene was confirmed by GC for the first time. The gas-sensing mechanism of the Au/α-MoO3was speculated as the oxidation of toluene to water and carbon dioxide by chemisorbed oxygen and lattice oxygen. The possible reason related with improved gas-sensing properties of the Au-functionalized α-MoO3was discussed.
