109. Systematic Analysis of Expression and Prognostic Values of Lysyl Oxidase Family in Gastric Cancer

Abstract

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) remains the fifth most commonly diagnosed malignancy worldwide, with a poor prognosis. The lysyl oxidase (LOX) family, a type of secreted copper-dependent amine oxidases, is comprised of LOX and four LOX-like (LOXL) 1–4 isoforms and has been reported to be dysregulated in a number of different type cancers. However, the diverse expression patterns and prognostic values of LOX family in GC have yet to be systematically analyzed.Methods: ONCOMINE, GEPIA, UALCAN, Kaplan–Meier Plotter, LOGpc, cBioPortal, GeneMANIA and Metascape databases were utilized in this study to analyze the expression, prognostic values, mutations and functional networks of LOX family in GC.Results: The mRNA expression levels of LOX, LOXL1 and LOXL2 were significantly higher in GC, the expression level of LOXL3 was contrary in different databases, while the expression level of LOXL4 made no difference; the expression levels of LOX, LOXL1 and LOXL3 were higher in stages 2–4 than that of normal tissues and stage 1, while the mRNA level of LOXL2 in stage 1–4 was higher than normal tissues; patients with high expression of LOX and LOXL 2-4 had poor OS; the genes correlated with LOX and LOXL2 were enriched in extracellular matrix organization, vasculature development and skeletal system development.Conclusion: Our results indicated that the LOX family, especially LOX and LOXL2, might play an important role in GC oncogenesis, and they may become biomarkers for predicting tumor prognosis and potential targets for tumor therapy.

116. Study on formation of dual-phase MnO–SiO2-based inclusions in tire cord steel.

Abstract

In order to understand the formation of dual-phase MnO–SiO2-based inclusions in tire cord steel, laboratory and industrial experiments are carried out to investigate the formation and evolution of inclusions during Si–Mn deoxidation, and thermodynamic calculations are conducted to check the stability of inclusions after deoxidation. The results show that (Fe, Mn)O inclusions and CaO–SiO2–FeO based inclusions are mainly found in BOF as-tapped crude steel. During Si–Mn deoxidation, the (Fe, Mn)O inclusions will transform into MnO–SiO2 system inclusions, including liquid MnO–SiO2 inclusions and SiO2 + MnO–SiO2 dual-phase inclusions; while CaO–SiO2–MnO inclusions will be generated from CaO–SiO2–FeO based inclusions. In Si–Mn-killed tire cord steel, SiO2 is proved to be saturated in the MnO–SiO2 system inclusions, thus the dual-phase inclusions of SiO2 + MnO–SiO2 can stably stay in liquid steel after deoxidation, and probably change into dual-phase MnO–SiO2–Al2O3 system inclusions during refining process. The effect of alloy addition sequence on deoxidation is not evident, while the effect of slag is more profound. Proper addition of slag formers should be considered to promote deoxidation result. Abstract

A considerable number of patients with prominent mandibular angle have mandibular third molar impaction that needs surgical removal. Mandibular reduction is a popular and effective surgery to correct prominent mandibular angle, but it has been rarely performed simultaneously with impacted third molar extraction. In order to decrease the number of operations and suffering of patients, safely performing these 2 operations together is necessary and important. From January 2016 to June 2018, patients received mandibular reduction and impacted mandibular third molar extraction together were retrospectively reviewed. Forty-seven patients receiving long-curve mandibular reduction (n = 12) or simple mandibular reduction (n = 35) were included in this study. A total of 65 impacted mandibular third molars were extracted during mandibular reduction. One patient had hematoma within facial soft tissue which reabsorbed spontaneously. Seven patients who underwent long-curve mandibular reduction reported transient inferior lip numbness for several weeks. No infection or poor wound healing was reported. No immediate or delayed mandibular fracture occurred. All the patients were satisfied with both the aesthetic result of mandibular reduction and the unnecessity of receiving a secondary surgery to extract the impacted third molar. Simultaneously performing mandibular reduction and impacted mandibular third molar extraction can effectively reduce the number of operations and patients’ suffering. It is also safe with adequate pre-op assessment, professional surgical knowledge, proper use of surgical instruments, meticulous surgical procedures, and correct post-op care.

Abstract

In this study, Ti–6Al–4V welded joints were subjected to a high-energy shot peening (HESP) treatment. The structural characteristics of the Ti–6Al–4V welded joints were investigated by optical microscopy (OM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The Rockwell hardness and residual stress in different regions of the Ti–6Al–4V welded joints were assessed before and after treatment. Tension tests were then performed to investigate the effect of HESP on the welded samples. Experimental results showed that an Surface nanocrystallization (SNC) layer can be prepared on a Ti–6Al–4V welded joint via HESP. The average grain size of the SNC layer was approximately 30 nm after HESP. HESP also resulted in a higher surface hardness compared with that of the original sample. After treatment, surface compressive residual stresses formed in welded joints, and the residual peak stress of the weld zone was decreased from 650 MPa to −638 MPa. The surface hardness and surface residual stress were distributed more uniformly on the surface of the welded joint. After treatment, the tensile properties were improved.
