Abstract: Introduction: Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare malformation, with an estimated incidence of 0.003 to 0.043% of all congenital heart disease. It usually appears as an isolated congenital anomaly, but may also be associated with other malformations, the most common being coronary artery anomalies. Current technology enables noninvasive diagnosis in most cases. This entity's natural history is progression to valve regurgitation, which is rare before adulthood. Objective: Case review of quadricuspid aortic valve patients diagnosed in the last 10 years in a tertiary pediatric cardiology center. Methods: Retrospective chart review of patients diagnosed with quadricuspid aortic valve between January 2000 and December 2009. Results: Over the past 10 years, four cases of quadricuspid aortic valve were diagnosed in children aged between 6 months and 8 years, two male. In three cases, the four leaflets were of similar size, which is the most common finding. Two of the valves functioned normally and two had minimal regurgitation. All patients had associated cardiac malformations (one atrial and two ventricular septal defects, one supravalvular aortic stenosis and one quadricuspid pulmonary valve). One patient was also diagnosed with Williams syndrome. During a median follow-up of 2 years (0-9), all patients remained asymptomatic and none required medical or surgical treatment of the aortic valve. Conclusion: Diagnosis of quadricuspid aortic valve is rare, especially in children, since most patients are asymptomatic and have normally functioning valves. In this study, half the patients had minimal aortic regurgitation. Contrary to what is described in the literature, all patients had concomitant cardiac malformations. We provide the first description of this entity's association with Williams syndrome. Clinical follow-up should be maintained in these patients in order to promptly detect the onset or worsening of functional alterations and to enable appropriate therapeutic intervention. There are countless studies on human memory that have demonstrated its reconstructive nature and thus its fallibility. However, the need to explore the factors that give rise to this reconstructive nature remains. Imagination is one such factor. Some studies have shown that the imagination of fictitious episodes (which never happened) leads participants in a trend to increase confidence about the occurrence of these episodes. This phenomenon is called imagination inflation. In this paper we explain what is the imagination inflation, how it has been studied, the leverage that personal characteristics harness, and what are the implications the findings in this area have on some clinical treatment approaches. At the end of the paper we discuss the cognitive processes that seem to be associated with the phenomenon, such as the source monitoring and familiarity., São inúmeros os estudos sobre a memória humana que têm demonstrado a sua natureza reconstrutiva e deste modo a sua falibilidade.

ABSTRACT: This thesis aims to analyse three Mira Nair films from different periods of her career, Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake. To accomplish my task I provide a historical contextualization of the life and work of the film director from her birth till the present day. Then, I carry out an analysis of her social awareness and the technical and narrative features which Mira Nair uses to draw attention to social issues in her films, such as the importance of the use of colour, the arresting openings of the films, the performances of the actors, non-verbal communication and dress codes. I also focus on the vulnerabilities of children and women in her work, as well as on drug abuse, and make a few parallels with how things are today. Then I present a brief survey of the caste system and religion in India and their traditional importance to and effects on Indian society. After that I introduce some information about the Indian diaspora, and show how these issues are problematised and dealt with in Nair’s films.

Business cycle synchronisation is a necessary condition for the successful implementation of a common monetary policy, according to the theory of Optimum Currency Area. This paper focuses on the European Monetary Union (EMU) providing a descriptive analysis of the association between the aggregate Euro area and nine member states’ business cycles in 1980:1–2004:4. Overall, we find that, since the inception of EMU, business cycles of the larger member-states have been increasingly synchronised with the aggregate Euro area cycle, with the only exception of Spain, while results are rather mixed in the case of smaller countries. We further document that since 1997 business cycle synchronisation has become weaker in a number of countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Greece.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one common complication of diabetes. Early diagnosis of DPN often fails due to the non-availability of a simple, reliable, non-invasive method. Several published studies show that corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) can identify small nerve fibre damage and quantify the severity of DPN, using nerve morphometric parameters. Here, we used image texture features, extracted from corneal sub-basal nerve plexus images, obtained in vivo by CCM, to identify DPN patients, using classification techniques. A SVM classifier using image texture features was used to identify (DPN vs. No DPN) DPN patients. The accuracies were 80.6%, when excluding diabetic patients without neuropathy, and 73.5%, when including diabetic patients without diabetic neuropathy jointly with healthy controls. The results suggest that texture analysis might be used as a complementing technique for DPN diagnosis, without requiring nerve segmentation in CCM images. The results also suggest that this technique has enough sensitivity to detect early disorders in the corneal nerves of diabetic patients.

2011 (p = 0,136).

The mutation involves VHL gene, a tumour suppressor gene. The clinical presentation may be quite variable. VHLD should be suspected when a patient with family history of VHLD presents a typical lesion, such as central nervous system or retinal hemangioblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, pancreatic cysts or endocrine tumour, epididymal cystadenoma or endolymphatic sac tumour. Alternatively, to establish the diagnosis in a patient without familiar background for the referred disease, two or more hemangioblastomas of central nervous system and/or retina or a single hemangioblastoma of central nervous system or retina associated with another lesion, namely renal cell carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, pancreatic cysts or endocrine tumour or epididymal cystadenoma are required. Morbidity and mortality are mainly related to neurological damage determined by central nervous system hemangioblastomas and also to renal cell carcinoma metastasis. It is advisable to create a follow-up protocol and to adjust it to each single patient, aiming at an early detection and an adequate treatment of clinical manifestations, towards an improved prognosis.

This paper contributes to the literature that explores the effects of European integration, providing new evidence about its impact on population distribution in the EU28 regions (NUTS 3 level) during the period 2000-2018. The main objectives are to explore the effects of the recent three EU enlargements on the growth in population share within the border regions and to compare the behaviour between core and peripheral regions. We use an empirical difference-in-difference approach. The findings show that border regions experienced positive effects on growth in population share since EU integration, but it did not completely reverse their relative population decline. At the same time, the process of European integration seems to have aggravated the demographic decline of EU peripheral regions compared to the EU core regions. Moreover, for the regions that are both border and peripheral, the EU integration effect has been stronger than in border only regions.

This paper presents a quadratically constrained programming (QCP) model to tackle the optimal power flow (OPF) problem in distribution networks. The proposed model is fast, reliable, and precise enough to be embedded into the multi-temporal power system analysis. The proposed model benefits from a standard QCP to solve the branch active and reactive power flows. The second-order conic programming (SOCP) approach has been applied to address the quadratic constraints. The nonconvex feature of the OPF problem has been relaxed utilizing the McCormick envelopes. To find the minimum current of each branch, the lossless power flow model has been first solved and the obtained results have been considered for solving the OPF problem. The IEEE 33-bus test system has been selected as the benchmark to verify the efficient performance of the proposed OPF model. The simulation study confirms that the McCormick envelopes used in the QCP approach lead to precise results with a very fast convergence time. Overall, the presented model for the OPF can be extended for both planning and operation purposes in distribution system studies.

The article reports that Article 35 of Portuguese Companies Code, entitled Loss of Half of the Capital, resulted from the implementation of Article 17 of the European Union Directive on Coordination of Safeguards Regarding the Protection of Interests of Members and Others, which established that, in case of a serious loss of a company's subscribed statutory capital, a general meeting should be immediately convened to decide what should be done and to consider, among the various solutions, dissolution of the company. Decree law 262/86 of September 2, which approved the Portuguese Companies Code, established the dispention of Article 35 and made approval of a new decree law a condition of its coming into force.

Decree Law 252/2003 of October 17, 2003 implementing EC Directives 2001/107/EC and 108/2001/EC, sets out new provisions regarding undertakings for collective investment (CIN) in transferable securities in three main areas. The law enters into force on January 1, 2004, but it establishes a transitory period of two years. According to the previous decree law, one of the main information documents submitted before subscription was the complementary informative note, which was the responsibility of and prepared by, each Portuguese distributor of the units of the fund, which meant that each fund had as many CIN's as distributors.

This article reports that a new law that governs financial guarantee contracts, Decree-law 105/2004 of May 8, entered into force in June 2004 in Portugal. After defining the object of the Decree-law and giving a definition of the financial guarantee contract, the Decree-law enumerates two main types of financial guarantee contracts: the financial pledge and the fiduciary transfer in guarantee. In articles 3 to 7 the Decree-law defines and details the relevant main contractual elements for determining the financial nature of a contract, which in brief can be summarized as follows: the parties to the contract are as a rule financial institutions, the objects of the guarantee must be financial instruments or cash, and the obligations guaranteed are those that relate to the finality settlement in cash or financial instruments. The financial pledge is a pledge contract under which the beneficiary of the guarantee is entitled to make use of the object of the guarantee.

CAPITAL stock ,CAPITAL contributions ,STOCKHOLDERS equity ,PRIVATE companies - Abstract
Supplementary capital contributions and ancillary capital contributions are two commonly used forms of funding private limited companies in Portugal and are covered by Portuguese law. Supplementary capital contributions are non-interest-bearing shareholder contributions in cash that are accounted for as equity. The nature of these contributions has led to many discussions about their legal nature and it has been said that where ancillary capital contributions consist of cash and are non-interest bearing they are identical to supplementary capital contributions, so the difference is not justified.

Moderate wine consumption ,wine consumers’ survey ,health ,Croatia - Abstract
Since the discovery of the so-called ‘French paradox’ by Renaud & de Lorgeril, M. (1992), a diet of high fat and cholesterol intake along with red wine that does not negatively impact health, such as cardiovascular risks, medical surveys found more positive relations of wine and health and more biochemical substances with positive effects on human health (Anekonda 2016 ; Golderg . The positive effects include blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood lipids, diabetes, obesity regulation, prevention of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects. In addition to the positive impact on physical health, evidence exist on positive impacts of phenolic compounds (stilbenes, especially resveratrol) on mental health regarding protecting neuronal cells from damage, preventing the development of neurodegenerative diseases, treating depression, improving cognitive function, and increasing memory (Ares et al., 2015 ; Diener et al., 1999 ; Guilemin et al., 2016). The positive psychological responses of humans caused by moderate wine consumption respond to a positive sense psychological well-being, fewer or no symptoms of depression, and a higher level of positive affects and lower negative affects. During the scientific project “Vinum Sanum” several research questions were set and hypothesis upon whom surveys were conducted. The surveys included questions about human behaviour towards wine, medical aspects of wine consumption, comparison of consumers and non-consumers perceptions about health attributes of wine. The study was carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki developed by the World Medical Association and was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka (Croatia). The purpose of the study presented in this article was to show how wine consumers perceive wine and how it affects their psychological state. The main objective of this survey was to provide evidence about moderate wine consumption of Malvazija istarska on human health, the possible positive effects of wine consumption on psychological well-being and to detect positive perceptions towards wine. The objective was achieved by testing participants during a period of six weeks of moderate wine consumption of autochthonous Croatian grapevine variety Malvazija istarska (Vitis vinifera L.) produced in Istria county. The data were collected from wine consumers at two time points (in June and July 2019) before and after wine consumption with a self-completed questionnaire that was administered by trained researchers. Two questionnaires were used, one to measure the psychological response of the influence of moderate wine consumption and one to measure the perception of wine and its health attributes. Variables were measured with the Likert scale (1-5 for wine attributes and 1-10 for psychological affects). For data processing descriptive analysis (M, SD), and factor analysis were used. Results indicate the awareness of positive health aspects of wine consumption, connected to the positive effects of wine on cardiovascular health (namely, heart, blood vessels health and levels of blood cholesterol). Wine was perceived as a natural and healthy beverage, in a positive sense with its relaxation, hedonistic effects and quality attributes (ageing/vintage, terroir, micro region/vineyards). The psychological affects/subjective well-being included negative stress affects (being nervous, anxious and under pressure) that were explained by everyday pressures of work and family obligations. The construct of negative affects was separate from the positive affects expressed with feelings of happiness, emotional stability and positive general well-being feelings. The obtained results about positive effects of moderate wine consumption may be useful for other researchers in medical branches who question if moderate wine consumption has positive of negative effects on human health, and may serve in current discussions at the World Health Organization on wine and health.

Wine cooperatives, and agricultural cooperatives in general, have long been negatively judged by consumers, practitioners and researchers (Elster, 1989). Multiple drawbacks of the cooperative models have been investigated, such as agent and incentive problems (Hakelius and Hansson, 2016, Valette et al., 2018), limited ability to scale up (Tortia et al., 2013), slow adaptation to changes in market conditions (Nilsson, 1997). In addition to these structural issues, the assumption of lower quality, reflected by lower price point, has resulted in the poor reputation of wine cooperatives (Schamel, 2015). Furthermore, Garrido (2022) affirms that the low-quality standards conventionally associated to wine cooperatives are a direct consequence of their inability to avoid opportunistic behaviors of their members. Nevertheless, cooperatives still exist, and a growing number of scholars has been highlighting strengths and advantages of this organizational model (Fahlbeck, 2007; Figueredo and Franco, 2018; Valentinov, 2007). In spite of the positive reinterpretation of the cooperative model by scholars, there is no clear consensus over consumers’ judgement of wine cooperatives and their products, and the literature on this topic is fairly limited. On the one hand, some studies confirm that negative prejudice towards wine cooperatives still exists, in particular among European consumers (Pennerstorfer and Weiss, 2012; Sáenz-Navajas et al., 2013). Wine cooperatives are recurringly cited as unable to pursue branding and differentiation strategies (Bonroy et al., 2019; Grashuis, 2018) and catch-up consumers’ growing demand for high quality and variety (Carbone, 2021): this may explain why a non negligeable share of consumers negatively judge the cooperative wine label for all the price segments (Rebelo et al., 2019). On the other hand, some scholars point out a trend reversal. European consumers are apparently shifting towards more positive opinions on cooperatives and the wines they produce, as confirmed by quantitative studies performed in Germany (Dreyer, 2019) and Italy (Schamel, 2014). Furthermore, according to recent literature, the adoption of optimal communication and branding strategies is beneficial for the image of wine cooperatives (Bernal-Jurado et al., 2021; Di Vita et al., 2019; Raza and Thomas, 2018). To the best of our knowledge, while the literature provides multiple examples of Choice Experiments (CE) to study preferences for various attributes and quality clues of wine, only one study has used this methodology to investigate interest in wine from cooperatives among French consumers (Sáenz-Navajas et al., 2013). To fulfill this gap and better understand the opinion on wine cooperatives among Europeans, we developed a CE and used a multi-country longitudinal design to analyze consumers’ preferences for wine labels and specific quality clues. A Computer Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) survey and the CE were forwarded to a non-probability sample of 3600 wine consumers in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Slovenia and the UK, stratified by age, gender and geographical origin. As highlighted by our results, while negative prejudice towards wine cooperatives and their products still persists, more and more consumers embrace the idea that cooperatives might compete not only on price but also on quality. In this sense, communication based on adequate use of labelling and adoption of quality certifications might strengthen the image of wine cooperatives which focus on quality. As wine consumers evolve and become more demanding on intrinsic quality as well as the wine and the winemakers’ identity, history and connection with the territory, cooperatives could further stress their uniqueness: their wines are not only the result of the interaction between man and nature, but also the best expression of a whole local community, embedded and rooted in its territory.

- Abstract
Study Question: How does a natural proliferative phase (NPP) strategy for frozen embryo transfer (FET) compare with the conventional artificial (AC) and natural (NC) endometrial preparation protocols in terms of live birth rates (LBR)?, Summary Answer: This study supports the hypothesis that, just as for NC, NPP-FET may be a superior alternative to AC in terms of LBR., What Is Known Already: Although FETs are increasing worldwide, the optimal FET protocol is still largely controversial. Despite recent evidence supporting a possibly higher efficacy and safety of NC FETs, their widespread use is limited by the difficulties encountered during cycle monitoring and scheduling., Study Design, Size, Duration: In this single center retrospective cohort study, we describe the NPP-FET protocol, in which vaginal progesterone is initiated during the proliferative phase as soon as an endometrium with a thickness of at least 7 mm is identified and ovulation is ruled out, regardless of mean diameter of the dominant follicle., Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: For comparison, we considered all blastocyst stage FET cycles preformed at a private infertility center between January 2010 and June 2022, subdivided according to the following subgroups of endometrial preparation: AC, NPP, and NC. We performed multivariable generalized estimating equations regression analysis to account for the following potential confounding variables: oocyte age at retrieval, oocyte source (autologous without preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies (PGT-A) versus autologous with PGT-A versus donated), number of oocytes retrieved/donated, embryo developmental stage (Day 5 versus Day 6), number of embryos transferred, quality of the best embryo transferred, and year of treatment. The main outcome measure was LBR. The secondary outcomes included hCG positive, clinical pregnancy and miscarriage rates, and the following perinatal outcomes: first trimester bleeding, second/third trimester bleeding, preterm rupture of membranes, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertensive disorders (GHD), and gestational age at delivery., Main Results and the Role of Chance: A total of 5791 FET cycles were included in this analysis (2226 AC, 349 NPP, and 3216 NC). The LBR for FET was lower in the AC subgroup when compared to the NPP and NC (38.4%, 49.1%, and 45.2%, respectively; P < 0.01 AC versus NPP and AC versus NC). The rates of miscarriage were also lower in the NPP and NC subgroups when compared to AC (19.7%, 25.0%, and 34.9%, respectively; P < 0.01 NPP versus AC and NC versus AC). Considering perinatal outcomes, NPP-FET and NC were associated with a significantly lower first trimester bleeding compared to AC (17.3%, 14.7%, and 37.6%, respectively; P < 0.01 NPP versus AC and NC versus AC). Additionally, NC was associated with a lower rate of GHD when compared with AC (8.6% versus 14.5%, P < 0.01), while the rate following NPP-FET was 9.4%., Limitations, Reasons for Caution: This study is limited by its retrospective design. Moreover, there was also a low number of patients in the NPP subgroup, which may have led the study to be underpowered to detect clinically relevant differences between the subgroups., Wider Implications of the Findings: Our study posits that the NPP-FET protocol may be an effective and safe alternative to both NC and AC, while still allowing for enhanced practicality in patient follow-up and FET scheduling. Further investigation on NPP-FET is warranted, with prospective studies including a larger and more homogeneous subsets of patients., Study Funding/competing Interest(s): This research was supported by the IVI-RMA-Lisbon (2008-LIS-053-CG). The authors did not receive any funding for this study. The authors have no competing interests., Trial Registration Number: Not applicable., (© The Author(s) 2024.
