本稿では、静岡文化芸術大学デザイン学部上級生の英語能力、特にプレゼンテーション能力向上のためのプロジェクトについて述べる。このプロジェクトは、デザイン学部生産造形学科と文化政策学部国際文化学科English Diploma Course(以下、EDC)の学生による協働プログラムである。これは継続的プロジェクトであるが、ここでは最初の二つの段階について報告する。まずコラボレーションの理論的根拠(意義)を述べ、2011 年と2012 年の実施の詳細について解説する。このプロジェクトでは、デザイン学部生とEDC の学生がチームを組んで製品提案のプレゼンテーションを作成し、最終的にデザイン学部生が英語によるプレゼンテーションを行った。本稿では、両学部学生が何を経験し何を得たかについて述べ、このプロジェクトに対する学生の評価についても言及する。そして、従来のカリキュラムの枠組みを超えた専門分野協同による教育について、初期段階の検証を今後のプログラム研究に反映させて、中長期的な目標を提案する。, This report describes the first two stages of a multi-stage project to improve the English skills, in particular the English presentationability, of upperclassmen in the Faculty of Design at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture (SUAC). The project is a collaborative effortbetween students in the Department of Industrial Design and the English Diploma Course (EDC) at SUAC. After explaining the rationalefor the collaboration, details will be provided about how the project was implemented in 2011 and 2012. The endeavor involved Facultyof Design majors and EDC students working in teams to produce an English presentation of a product or product concept. The designstudents ultimately delivered the presentations in English. This report will describe the educational experiences and benefits received bystudents in both faculties. Furthermore, students' perceptions of the project will be provided. Following a reflection on the progress ofthe early stages of this cross-disciplinary educational experiment, mid- and long-term goals will be explained.

本稿は静岡文化芸術大学における英語教育改革の多面的な取り組みについて報告するものである。現カリキュラムおける取り組みを振り返ることは、2015年からはじまる新カリキュラムの開発とって意義があると考える。ここ数年でなされてきたカリキュラムレベルにおける改革は、教育方針、実践方法、などである。具体的には、授業内容(文政学部とデザイン学部の共同授業、共通テキスト使用など)や共通課題(オンラインTOEIC 練習、多読、e-learning)を充実するなど段階的な改革を行っている。さらには、カリキュラムを補完するものとして、課外活動の充実も図っている。授業外で英語を向上させる諸活動(ESS、スピーチコンテストや討論への参加、インターナショナルフォーラム開催)について紹介する。また、これらをシステマティクに動かしていくためのコーディネーション、ミーティング、役割の明確化などについても報告する。, This paper reports on the multifaceted steps taken to improve English language education at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture(SUAC). This report is a reflection on the progress made in the current program. By taking stock of what is presently being done, theauthors will subsequently be able to develop plans for the next English curriculum in 2015. The improvements, implemented overa number of years, include changes at the curricular level in educational policies and practices such as the use of an online TOEICsystem, the implementation of an Extensive Reading program, a subscription to an E-learning system, the use of common textbooks,and an English course collaboration between the Design and Cultural Policy and Management Faculties. Furthermore, to complementthese additions that have strengthened SUAC's English courses, a number of extracurricular activities such as the founding of anEnglish Speaking Society, hosting of an English speech contest, participation in an English Model United Nations, and the organizationof International Community Forums have been carried out on campus. After explaining the steps taken to improve English courses,coursework, assignments, and teaching materials, information will be given about the opportunities provided to students to continueimproving English outside of the classroom. To make these improvements happen, systematic coordination including English meetingsand the delegation of roles and responsibilities has taken place and will continue to be refined.

本稿では静岡文化芸術大学の教員、及び、学生(教職課程履修者や英語に関心のある学生)と地域の小規模小学校との外国語活動・英語活動を通した連携とその成果について報告する。2011 年度より小学校において外国語活動が必修となっている中、静岡文化芸術大学が地域に根ざす大学として、学部・学科の専門性を生かし、地元小学校からの外国語活動実践支援に関する要望に応えることは極めて重要である。さらに、本学生にとっても講義で学んだことを、実社会で生かすことができる貴重な経験となる。連携方法は、新学習指導要領に則った授業案作成の支援、大学教員による研修開催、小学校教員と学生によるティーム・ティーチング(T-T)、大学教員または学生による授業実践であった。本連携がきっかけで、英語学習教材の共同製作・ワークショップも開催されるなど、着実に小学校と大学教員間の連携が強まっている。また、児童や学生にとっても本活動が有意義であることがアンケート結果からも見て取れる。横山小学校と静岡文化芸術大学の外国語活動・英語活動を通した連携は、2012 年度で4 年目を迎え、双方にとって教育効果のある支援・交流を継続している。, This paper reports on the cooperation between a small elementary school and students and teachers at Shizuoka University of Art andCulture through foreign-language activities (Gaikokugo Katsudo) and English activities. This cooperation is meaningful for both schools:the elementary school needed the support on how to conduct foreign-language activities, as it wanted to provide this educationalopportunity to their students to foster their communication skills by having them interact with various types of people in society. Forthe university, it was an opportunity to support a school in the community with its educational resources. Also, the university studentsbenefited from putting what they learned in their studies into practice. The collaborative effort included support in making lesson plans,lectures provided by university teachers, team-teaching by elementary school teachers and university students, university studentparticipation in communication activities, and lessons conducted by university teachers or students. Furthermore, this partnershiphelped the participants create English learning materials including CDs and a text; a workshop was held for elementary school teachersthat presented information on the use of the materials and other teaching methods. This paper concludes that the cooperation has beensuccessful, with the style of the cooperation changing according to the needs of the participants.

The astrocytic GLT-1 (or EAAT2) is the major glutamate transporter for clearing synaptic glutamate. While the diffusion dynamics of neurotransmitter receptors at the neuronal surface are well understood, far less is known regarding the surface trafficking of transporters in subcellular domains of the astrocyte membrane. Here, we have used live-cell imaging to study the mechanisms regulating GLT-1 surface diffusion in astrocytes in dissociated and brain slice cultures. Using GFP-time lapse imaging, we show that GLT-1 forms stable clusters that are dispersed rapidly and reversibly upon glutamate treatment in a transporter activity-dependent manner. Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching and single particle tracking using quantum dots revealed that clustered GLT-1 is more stable than diffuse GLT-1 and that glutamate increases GLT-1 surface diffusion in the astrocyte membrane. Interestingly, the two main GLT-1 isoforms expressed in the brain, GLT-1a and GLT-1b, are both found to be stabilized opposed to synapses under basal conditions, with GLT-1b more so. GLT-1 surface mobility is increased in proximity to activated synapses and alterations of neuronal activity can bidirectionally modulate the dynamics of both GLT-1 isoforms. Altogether, these data reveal that astrocytic GLT-1 surface mobility, via its transport activity, is modulated during neuronal firing, which may be a key process for shaping glutamate clearance and glutamatergic synaptic transmission.

本稿では、静岡文化芸術大学における英語カリキュラム共通課題である1)TOEIC練習問題、2)多読、3)e-ラーニング、の実施目的、内容、方法について報告する。特に2011年度より開始した多読とe-ラーニングについては、効果的な実施方法を探るために学生を対象に予備的に行ったアンケート調査の結果を報告する。主な結果として、課題量については調整が必要である一方、多読やe-learning の課題そのものに対しては有用だという印象をもっていることが明らかになった。また、今後、より効果的に共通課題を実施する方法についても議論する。, This paper describes the implementation of three curriculum-wide assignments for all students enrolled in English courses at ShizuokaUniversity of Art and Culture (SUAC). After explaining the rationale behind this undertaking, information on the measures taken tocoordinate the assignments across the curriculum is provided. The type of homework required: online TOEIC exercises, ExtensiveReading assignments, and E-learning homework, and the intended goals of these tasks are discussed. Furthermore, methods used toconfirm student completion of the assignments are explained. To conclude this preliminary study on the process of assigning commonhomework in an English curriculum, a survey was taken to measure student experiences and perceptions; results from the survey arepresented.

第1章では、TOEFLテスト, TOEICテスト, TOEIC Bridge テストの相違点から始まり、日本人に今本当に必要な英語力とは何かという最新の議論、および他大学における検定試験活用のユニークな事例など、日本の大学における英語教育の背景について概観した。第2章では、4月に本学でTOEIC Bridge テストによりクラス編成した「英語上級2、4」の結果について学問的に検証した。第3章では、年に4回実施しているTOEIC学内団体受験と英語の授業を連携させるべく独自に開発した「SUACオンラインTOEICシステム」について記述した。ウェブ上の練習問題を教室外で2サイクル自学し、TOEICを受験することで、ボーナス点が成績に加算される仕組である。第4章では、国際文化学科の新入生の「英語コミュニケーション2・4」のクラス編成をTOEIC Bridgeテストで行ったが、その結果分析と学生たちからのフィードバックの分析、および今後の課題について記した。

英文学概要を英語のみで教えるにあたり、本校で用いた手法について説明する。日本の大学においてEAP (English for Academic Purposes: 学問上の目的のための英語)への感心が高まっているが、カリキュラムにコンテントベースの講義を加えるには、相応の配慮と計画を要し、多くの要素を考慮する必要がある。本稿では、まず、コンテントベースの大学レベルEFLコースに関する問題点について指摘する。次に、コース設計とオリジナル教材開発についての詳説をし、最後に、英語で講義を受けた学生の理解度測定結 で締めくくる。, The purpose of this report is to describe the methodology used to teach a Survey of British Literature course at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture (SUAC). Before explaining the steps taken to design the course and create original materials for it, issues related to content-based university-level EFL courses will be introduced. There has been an increased interest in teaching English for Academic Purposes at Japanese universities; however, adding content-based courses to the curriculum requires care and planning. This report addresses a number of factors that need to be considered when delivering academic content to students in a foreign language. To conclude the report, survey results measuring student comprehension of the English lectures will be presented.

本報告書では、静岡文化芸術大学の英語科目の1つである「マルチメディア英語」における、教材作成と評価基準設定に関する英語教員間の共同取り組みについて述べる。具体的には、3年間をかけて開発した、オンラインコースマネージメントシステムを利用して、自主学習を促進させる補助教材の提供、小テストの実施、また、学生の授業出席や取り組み状況の管理、学期中に随時、成績フィードバックを行なった。また、教師が共同で授業を改善していくために、学生に対して授業の実施方法、教材、学習効 等に関するオンライン・アンケートを実施した。 本稿では、まず、本授業において、マネージメントシステムを使用する理論的根拠を提示する。次に、授業内容・教材の紹介、また、アンケート調査結 を統計データを用いて報告する。最後に、英語教員間で連携をして、効 的に授業開発・運営をしていくことの重要性と、それを援助するテクノロジー技術の有用性について述べる。, This paper reports on a collaborative effort among three English language teachers to create materials and standards for an English language course at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture. The project, spanning three years, required the establishment of common syllabi, grading criteria, grading standards, a common set of materials and evaluation tools. By enlisting the latest technology, including an online course management system and supplemental websites, the team members were able to successfully implement the common syllabi. The instructors were able to administer quizzes, keep class records, monitor student performance, keep statistical data on course progress and measure student reaction to the implementation of the course materials. After introducing the rationale behind this approach to course development, a description of the course contents, statistics, and materials will be given. To conclude this report, results from action research on one aspect of this course will be presented.

本稿では平成21年度静岡文化芸術大学学長特 研究「身体文化とメディアの融合と創造_グローバル化するスポーツ文化_」の成 として静岡文化芸術大学開学10周年記念「メディア・スポーツシンポジウム」、さらに研究成 を一 市民や関係者に発表する目的として「SUAC文化芸術セミナー」について報告する。特に「メディア・スポーツシンポジウムでは、日仏のメディア・スポーツ関係者と意見交換をすることで、日仏のメディアアイデンティティの相違点や共 点が明らかになった。また今後のわが国のメディア・スポーツのあり方やスポーツ・ジャーナリズムに新しい知見を得ることができた。, This paper reports on the 2009 Sports Media Symposium at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture (SUAC), and the Seminar of Cultures and Art which also took place at SUAC in 2009. This is a report on a special research grant received from the President of Shizuoka University of Art and Culture. These events allowed the researchers to clarify differences and learn of common features between the media identity of Japan and France through an exchange of opinions with Japanese and French journalists and others related to the field. The new findings from this project have been informative in illustrating ideal practices for sports media and sports journalists in Japan.

ブログは、ネットユーザの自己表現の場として、また友人や家族、同僚との交流を図る手段として、ますますその利用が高まっている。ユーザにわかりやすいインタフェース、多言語機能等を備えた無料のアプリケーションの出現と共に、事実上、読み書きできる人なら誰でも作家や出版者になれる。本論文は、教育用ツールとしてのブログの発展を調査し、日本の大学におけるこれらウェブベースのコラボレーション使用について説明するものである。ブログを用いれば、従来の教科書とノートからなる教育態様を加えたバーチャルコミュニティを築き上げることができる。以下に、英語学習者が共同作業を通して仲間意識を育み、また意見交換、課題についてブログを利用する例を示す。この手法を教授方法および学習方法として体系化することにより、学習者および教育者が使用できる大規模かつ複数のユーザによる多言語コミュニティの構築を可能とする。, Web logs (blogs) have become increasingly popular as a means for Internet users to express themselves and stay connected with friends, family members, and colleagues. User-friendly interfaces, multi-lingual soft-ware, and free applications have made it so that virtually anyone who can read and write can become an online author and publisher. This paper highlights the importance of implementing technology to meet the needs of the next generation of students, introduces the use of blogs as an educational tool, and comments on the implementation of web-based collaborations at a Japanese university. Blogging can be used to create a virtual community to complement the traditional brick and mortar educational setting. To support this assertion, presented below is a discussion of blogs created by English language learners at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture (SUAC) to foster collegiality, exchange ideas and post coursework. By incorporating similar applications of technology into curricula, educators can build a broader, multi-user, multi-lingual community of life-long learners.

Father’s mental health is an emerging area of interest that is beginning to be recognized in research, and to a lesser extent in clinical practice and society. Fathers are part of a parenting dyad with 2 partners who are responsible for their children’s emotional development. Similar to mothers, the risk for mental health problems increases once a male becomes a father, but there is limited research examining this issue. The purpose of this review is to present the available literature on father’s mental health and its effect on child emotional health through various mechanisms. In general, father’s mental health was found to be related to increased child internalizing and externalizing behaviors, but each disorder had different risk factors, and a unique effect on parenting behaviors and the child’s emotional health. The most developed paternal mental health literature is focused on depression. However, key conceptual and methodological problems exist that may limit our understanding of paternal depression. Additionally, the focus on paternal depression may not accurately represent the largest risk for paternal psychopathology and the resultant child mental health outcomes because men have an increased likelihood of displaying externalizing behaviors. Implications for research, clinical practice, and policy are discussed.

Voortbouwend op theorieën omtrent budgetteren, bestedingen, en beslis- en winkelgedrag laten de auteurs middels een veldexperiment, uitgevoerd in een fysieke supermarkt, zien dat realtime bestedingsfeedback een unieke invloed heeft op de bestedingen van personen die winkelen met een beperkt budget ("budget" shoppers) versus personen die winkelen zonder budget beperkingen ("nonbudget" shoppers). Realtime bestedingsfeedback stimuleert budget shoppers om meer te besteden (door meer A-merken te kopen). Daarentegen zorgt deze feedback er voor dat nonbudget shoppers minder besteden (door het vervangen van A-merken door huismerken). Bovendien zorgen slimme winkelwagens voor een stijging van budget shoppers’ intenties om de winkel opnieuw te bezoeken, terwijl deze intenties stabiel blijven voor nonbudget shoppers. Deze bevindingen onderstrepen de fundamentele onontgonnen verschillen tussen budget en nonbudget shoppers. The strength of synaptic inhibition can be controlled by the stability and endocytosis of surface and synaptic GABAA receptors (GABAARs), but the surface receptor dynamics that underpin GABAAR recruitment to dendritic endocytic zones (EZs) have not been investigated. Stabilization of GABAARs at EZs is likely to be regulated by receptor interactions with the clathrin-adaptor AP2, but the molecular determinants of these associations remain poorly understood. Moreover, although surface GABAAR downmodulation plays a key role in pathological disinhibition in conditions such as ischemia and epilepsy, whether this occurs in an AP2-dependent manner also remains unclear. Here we report the characterization of a novel motif containing three arginine residues (405RRR407) within the GABAAR β3-subunit intracellular domain (ICD), responsible for the interaction with AP2 and GABAAR internalization. When this motif is disrupted, binding to AP2 is abolished in vitro and in rat brain. Using single-particle tracking, we reveal that surface β3-subunit-containing GABAARs exhibit highly confined behavior at EZs, which is dependent on AP2 interactions via this motif. Reduced stabilization of mutant GABAARs at EZs correlates with their reduced endocytosis and increased steady-state levels at synapses. By imaging wild-type or mutant super-ecliptic pHluorin-tagged GABAARs in neurons, we also show that, under conditions of oxygen–glucose deprivation to mimic cerebral ischemia, GABAARs are depleted from synapses in dendrites, depending on the 405RRR407 motif. Thus, AP2 binding to an RRR motif in the GABAAR β3-subunit ICD regulates GABAAR residency time at EZs, steady- state synaptic receptor levels, and pathological loss of GABAARs from synapses during simulated ischemia.

EuroKUP (Urine and Kidney Proteomics www.eurokup.org) is a COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical research: www.cost.esf.org Action fostering amulti-disciplinary network of investigators from 25 countries and focusing on facilitating translational proteomic research in kidney diseases. Four Working Groups focusing respectively on defining clinically important research questions in kidney diseases, kidney tissue proteomics, urine proteomics and bioinformatics have been generated. The EuroKUP members had their second combined Working Group and Management Committee (MC) meeting in Nafplio, Greece from March 29 to 30, 2009. This report summarizes the main presentations, discussions and agreed action points during this meeting. These refer to the design of collaborative projects and clinical center networks for specific kidney diseases establishment of guidelines for kidney tissue proteomics analysis by laser-based imaging- and laser capture microdissection-MS development and characterization of a "standard" urine specimen to be used for assessment of platform capability and data comparability in clinical proteomics applications definition of statistical requirements in biomarker discovery studies and development of a specialized kidney and urine ontology. Background: Prostate cancer (PRCA) is the most common cancer in males in the western world. In Finland PRCA has an age-adjusted incidence of 81.5 per 100,000. We previously reported that in Finland, the late-onset cases in families with “no-male-to-male” (NMM) transmission of PRCA accounted for most of the linkage to the HPCX region (Xq27-28). The aim of the present study was to test for linkage disequilibrium (LD) and haplotype-sharing around marker DXS1205 between cases from hereditary prostate cancer (HPC) families and population controls. The initial allelic association was performed between 108 PRCA cases and 257 population controls genotyped for 23 markers in the Xq26-28 region. This resulted in a highly significant nominal one-sided Fisher’s exact P-value of 0.0003 for allele ″180″ of marker DXS1205. Subsequently, a similar level of significance was observed for the same allele for marker DXS1205 (P=0.0002) when comparing 60 NMM cases and 257 controls. These results were still significant after Bonferroni correction for multiple testing. Fine mapping efforts included the genotyping of four additional markers D3S2390, bG82i1.9, bG82i1.1, bG82i1.0 and four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to augment the original markers around DXS1205. Results: Our major finding is that markers extending from ″D3S2390″ to ″bG82i1.0″ flank the critical locus, about 150 kb. Levin and Bertell’s LD measure (δ), a guide to localization of a possible variant, was 0.42 and 0.41 for alleles of markers bG82i1.9 and DXS1205, respectively. Conclusions: In this study, the most significant haplotype comprised the three tightly linked, contiguous markers: ″cen-bG82i1.9-SNP-Hap B-bG82i1.1-tel″ [″197-2-234″] among several possible haplotypes (nominal Fisher’s one-sided P=0.003). The two transcription units mapping within this interval are the LDOC1 and SPANXC genes. Positional cloning of the HPCX gene(s) is being facilitated by this exploration of the Xq26-28 region. This study represents the first report identifying a haplotype in the Xq27-28 region for an association between HPCX and X-linked prostate cancer with no-male-to-male transmission in the Finnish population.

The glutathione transferases (GSTs; also known as glutathione S-transferases) are major phase II detoxification enzymes found mainly in the cytosol. In addition to their role in catalysing the conjugation of electrophilic substrates to glutathione (GSH), these enzymes also carry out a range of other functions. They have peroxidase and isomerase activities, they can inhibit the Jun N-terminal kinase (thus protecting cells against H(2)O(2)-induced cell death), and they are able to bind non-catalytically a wide range of endogenous and exogenous ligands. Cytosolic GSTs of mammals have been particularly well characterized, and were originally classified into Alpha, Mu, Pi and Theta classes on the basis of a combination of criteria such as substrate/inhibitor specificity, primary and tertiary structure similarities and immunological identity. Non-mammalian GSTs have been much less well characterized, but have provided a disproportionately large number of three-dimensional structures, thus extending our structure-function knowledge of the superfamily as a whole. Moreover, several novel classes identified in non-mammalian species have been subsequently identified in mammals, sometimes carrying out functions not previously associated with GSTs. These studies have revealed that the GSTs comprise a widespread and highly versatile superfamily which show similarities to non-GST stress-related proteins. Independent classification systems have arisen for groups of organisms such as plants and insects. This review surveys the classification of GSTs in non-mammalian sources, such as bacteria, fungi, plants, insects and helminths, and attempts to relate them to the more mainstream classification system for mammalian enzymes. The implications of this classification with regard to the evolution of GSTs are discussed.
