The municipality of Botuverá (Middle Valley of the Itaja-mirim River) has a morphology marked by hills with steep slopes and narrow valley bottoms, originally covered by an exuberant Atlantic Forest, which was modified by the anthropization that began at the end of the 19th century. The objective of the research was to analyze the uses of natural resources in the territory of Botuverá from 1876 until the end of the 20th century. Four periods were identified with the predominance of subsistence and commercial interest in extractive activities; land use for crops; and mineral exploration of gold, limestone, and lime production. Some activities have advanced from artisanal work to industry in a cycle that lasts just over 100 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: We propose an unprecedented model for incorporating agile methodology (AM) into the development of an Integrated Management System (IMS). Design/Methodology: The research design employed a literature review and content analysis approach. We identified ten distinct IMS models from academic literature and subjected them to critical cross-analysis. Additionally, we conducted an exhaustive review of seminal agile literature to pinpoint essential characteristics of both AM and IMS. Findings: The comprehensive content analysis and coding process facilitated identifying fundamental agile elements to be integrated into the proposed framework. As a result, we present an interdisciplinary Agile-based Integrated Management System (AIMS) framework. Originality: This framework draws upon insights from diverse research sources and introduces a three-level analysis perspective: strategic, tactical, and operational. Integrating IMS with AM empowers organisations to make more agile and responsive decisions concerning IMS implementation. Spinturnicid mites are ectoparasites exclusively of bats. Herein, we provide a comprehensive catalogue of spinturnicid species recorded in Brazil focusing on their distribution nationwide. This catalogue listed 16 spinturnicid species into four different genera, and a key for the genera recorded in Brazil. Also, it provides new locality records for four species: Cameronieta almaensis Almeida, Gettinger and Gardner, Periglischrus acutisternus Machado-Allison, Periglischrus caligus Kolenati, and Periglischrus iheringi Oudemans. Brazil has one of the cleanest energy matrices in the world, mainly a matrix based on hydropower. The research aims to identify and define variables that most strongly influence the economic viability of operating equipment and wind farms in Northeast Brazil, identifying the key performance factors for the economic analysis performed, such as technologies, equipment size and productive efficiency. The cash flow analysis allowed the calculation of the break-even for the different variables analyzed, equipment load factor, wind turbine investment and effective hours available for wind generation, among others. Although for the situation analyzed, wind generation projects in the Northeast of Brazil are economically viable, the profitability of these projects for the assumptions of the calculation assumed is still low, considering they generate a 15 year pay-back and a return rate of 9.22% p.a. as opposed to an assumed financing cost of 7.35% p.a. Both the Lean philosophy and occupational safety and health have been widely studied, although this has usually been carried out independently. However, the correlation between Lean and occupational safety and health in the industrial context is still underexplored. Indeed, Lean tools can be applied to ensure the best safety environment for workers in each kind of manufacturing process, and this deserves to be studied. The study described here aims to understand the influence of each of a set of four Lean tools used in an industrial context with a strong manual labor component, seeking to determine the influence of each of these Lean tools on the increase in safety obtained through their application. For this purpose, four Lean tools that are quite commonly applied are selected, taking into account previously presented work that pointed to the positive influence of the application of each of these tools on worker safety: total productive maintenance system, Gemba walk, visual management and Yokoten. This study aims to apply these Lean tools and to analyze their impact on productivity, and then, on the safety of a company selected as a target in order to validate the concept. For this purpose, a new tool is created. In the first instance, the tool analyzes the current state of the productive process and the safety level through the study of the risk levels detected in the plant. In terms of productivity results, a reduction between 7% and 12% in cycle time is achieved in four areas of the plant. The feedback from employees showed increased satisfaction with the processes' simplification. To conclude, a 50% reduction in the number of work accidents per month is observed as a result of the implementation of Lean tools. The influence of the selected Lean tools on increasing both productivity and safety is clear, and our results prove the selection of tools to be largely adequate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study analyzed the most recurrent elements in the scientific literature on business strategy (BS) formulation, implementation, management, and execution. Through a content analysis it was possible to identify (21) elements that were grouped into (6) principles according to their similarities, synergies, and convergences. These principles were named as: (1) Scenario Analysis, (2) Business Definition, (3) Systemic Vision, (4) Management Support Processes, (5) Strategic Information and Indicators, and (6) Competitive Strategy. Among the main results of the research is the compilation of a new and relevant body of scientific knowledge related to BS. These findings may assist managers and organizations that want a better understanding for BS development. This theoretical framework also serves to establish a common baseline for future studies related to the theme, such as empirical research and case studies through the concepts and structure of the BS principles and elements systematized here. This article aims to analyze the levels of waste of components used in destructive testing for releasing the assembly line of an automotive parts factory. In this way, it aims to apply an improvement that involves the reduction of the amount of parts destroyed daily, consequently reducing their monthly costs. For this, based on the case study methodology, the percentages of discard in relation to sales of all parts currently produced were surveyed, in order to identify the line that has more discarded components and, from this, to analyze the waste factors, based on the Lean Manufacturing concepts. After the waste analysis and the application of process improvement, there was a reduction in the cost of parts for destruction. The cost, which was 0.71% of the total monthly sales, became 0.19%. Purpose: This article shows the proposal of a useful application, which facilitates communication and interaction between two people, promoting and putting into practice the concept of Freecycle. The aim is to improve the quality of life for people. Methodology/Approach: A contextualisation of the theme is done, namely the concept of Freecycle, showing how it emerged and evolved, as well as how technology can be applied to it for its promotion. Based on this study, the information systems and technological architectures of the proposed solution are shown. Findings: Freecycle has been gaining more and more relevance, being seen as a way to reduce the waste of goods, which can lead to the reduction of raw materials spent to produce new goods. The proposed application allows this concept to be put into practice, playing an active role in improving the quality of products. Research Limitation/implication: The application is under development, and this article presents the results achieved so far. In the future, more tests will be done when the application is fully developed with a larger population. Originality/Value of paper: The currently existing applications do not contemplate all the potentialities of Freecycle, so the proposed solution intends to improve the dissemination of this concept and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, protecting the quality of life on our planet.
