The book presents the recent advancements in the area of sensors and sensing technology, specifically in environmental monitoring, structural health monitoring, dielectric, magnetic, electrochemical, ultrasonic, microfluidic, flow, surface acoustic wave, gas, cloud computing and bio-medical. This book will be useful to a variety of readers, namely, Master and PhD degree students, researchers, practitioners, working on sensors and sensing technology. The book will provide an opportunity of a dedicated and a deep approach in order to improve their knowledge in this specific field.

The eleventh monograph and meeting of the Foundation on'Hormon­ al Control of the Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis'was held in October 1983 at the Weizmann Institute of Science. This monograph honors the memory of Professor Hans R. Lindner, a productive and innovative scientist greatly respected and admired by his col­ leagues. When addressing the opening session I remarked that my impres­ sion of the Weizmann Institute was one or two large buildings hous­ ing the various departments. This was my first visit to Israel and I was overwhelmed by the beautiful semi-tropical gardens of the in­ stitute, in a setting of shrubs and trees, orange groves and flow­ ers. Sited among this seventy-five acres are over fifty buildings and residential areas for the staff and visiting scientists. I saw pictures of this area when Dr. Chaim Weizmann founded in 1934, the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, the forerunner of the Weizmann In­ stitute. The site was sand dunes without a blade of grass. That the desert shall bloom is illustrative of the progress made in Is­ rael. The topics of the monograph are grouped into twelve sections.

These four volumes comprising'GnRH Analogues in Cancer and Human Reproduction'are a distillation of the presentations of the invited speakers at a landmark International Symposium bearing the same name, organized by one of us (B. L.) and held in Geneva, Switzerland in February 1988. The Symposium was truly interdisciplinary spanning gonadal hormone dependent disease including various forms of cancer and ranging to control of fertility, both pro- and conception. The international flavor can be caught from the 480 participants and 259 contributors drawn from 14 countries. This volume contains papers that were presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Nanostructured Materials and Coatings for Biomedical and Sensor Applications held in Kyiv, Ukraine, 4-8 August, 2002. A total of 104 scientists from 14 countries participated in our ARW, making it a really international event. Participants ranged from graduate students to senior researchers. They presented 16 tutorial lectures, 20 short talks and more than 70 posters. Invited speakers, from NATO and Partner countries, presented some of the most recent developments in physics, chemistry and technology of nanosized materials. A broad range of speakers having international standing and representing NATO and partner countries, as well as university, industrial and govemment research laboratories participated in this meeting and wrote papers for this volume. Foregoing ARW gathered together the scientists working in the area of nanosized materials and coatings and their applications in biomedicine and sensors. The first objective of this AR W was to discuss the current research covering a wide range of physical and chemical properties of biomaterials and their use. Active discussion of oral presentations and posters, and the round table discussion gave a good opportunity to researchers from academia and industry to discuss the achievements in this field and outline future directions in terms of technological developments and product commercialisation in the fields of biomedicine and sensors. Particularly, advanced ceramics and nanostructured carbons were covered in many presentations.

Thick film technology is used to produce electronic devices such as surface mount devices, hybrid integrated circuits and sensors. The manufacture of such devices typically entails the deposition of several successive layers onto an electrically insulating substrate using a screen-printing process. In this book, the authors present topical research in the study of the properties, technology and applications of thick films, including the impact of thick film technology on the development of electrochemical sensors; transport and chemical processes for semiconductor silicon epitaxial film formation; production of thick titanium oxide films by anodic oxidation; the thermo-optical properties of colorless and transparent polyimide nanocomposite films; compatability of thick-film piezo-resistors with different LTCC materials and the three terminal structure for thick microcrystalline Si solar cells.

The Endocrine Function of the Human Testis, Volume 1, contains papers that comprise the series of lectures given in a short course on the'Endocrine Function of the Human Testis'which was organized by the Post-Graduate School of Endocrinology in the University of Florence. The course was held in two parts, the first on April 25-27 and the second on October 24-26, 1972. The topics which were covered were: methods for the assay of androgens; binding of androgens in plasma; metabolism of testosterone; the chemistry, biology, and radioimmunoassay of hypophiseal gonadotrophins; the mechanism of control of the secretion of pituitary gonadotrophins; and the biosynthesis of androgens in the human testis.
