Background TRiM (Trauma Risk Management) has been shown to improve mental health and attitudes towards mental health in high-risk occupational groups; however, there has been no research into how TRiM might work for railway workers. Aims To assess whether attending a TRiM training course alters mental health and attitudes to mental health-related help-seeking in railway workers. Methods Workers completed a survey assessing mental health and attitudes towards mental health and help-seeking, before and after a 2-day TRiM course; follow-up questionnaires were administered 4 months post-course. Results Fifty railway employees completed the questionnaires. Post-course scores for cohesion and mental health peer literacy (i.e. feeling able to recognize and discuss mental health symptoms with colleagues) and some aspects of stigma significantly improved, while there were non-significant improvements in common mental disorder and post-traumatic stress symptoms. The response rate for completing follow-up surveys was small (n = 8) but results from these subjects suggested mental health peer literacy scores remained significantly improved. Conclusions This study provides a useful insight into attitudes of railway workers regarding stigma and their confidence in discussing trauma-related mental health. Significant improvements in cohesion and mental health peer literacy along with the general improvement in scores post-TRiM course provide some evidence of the potential benefits of TRiM training in railway workers. Follow-up results have limited reliability due to the small number of responders but suggest possible long-term benefits of attending a TRiM course. The nuclear structure of the odd-odd nucleus 98Y has been re-investigated by observing prompt γ rays emitted following the proton-induced fission of a 238U target, using the JUROGAM-II multidetector array. New highspin decays have been observed and placed in the level schemes using triple coincidences. The experimental level energies and γ-decay patterns are compared to GICM and QPRM calculations, assuming that this neutronrich N = 59 isotone is spherical at low energies and prolate deformed at intermediate spins. Following a brief introduction to aero-engine materials and the development of BuRTi alloy (Ti-25V-15Cr-2Al-0.2C), the paper details a statistically designed machinability experiment involving high-speed ball end milling. Testing utilised 8 mm diameter AlTiN-coated carbide ball nose end mills in a Taguchi L8 fractional factorial design with six factors, each at two levels. Output measures related to tool life/wear, cutting forces, workpiece surface roughness, microstructure and microhardness. Main effect plots, tabulated ANOVA data, percentage contribution ratio (PCR) values together with graphical and SEM data are presented. Use of the lowest material removal rate, high-pressure (70 bar) cutting fluid and a workpiece orientation of 45° resulted in the longest tool life with a machining time of ~60 min; however, surface roughness was poor, and there was smeared/adhered material to a depth of 20 μm. Additionally, carbide fracture/pull-out was observed near the workpiece surfaces whereas microhardness depth profiles from sectioned, mounted and polished samples showed a moderate increase in surface hardness of ~80HK0.25above the bulk value. Resonance parameters for neutron-induced reactions on Am below 110 eV have been determined. The parameters result from a resonance shape analysis of transmission and capture data measured at the time-of-flight facility GELINA, with the accelerator operating at a 50 Hz repetition rate. The transmission experiments were carried out at a 25 m station using a Li glass scintillator. The capture experiments were performed at a 12.5 m station by applying the total energy detection principle in combination with the pulse height weighting technique using a pair of CD detectors. The normalization of the capture data was determined by a combined least squares adjustment of the transmission and capture data. From the adjusted resonance parameters a capture cross section of 749 ± 35 b for a neutron energy of 0.0253 eV and an average radiation width of 〈 Γ〉 = 42.0 meV for s-wave resonances were obtained. A missing-level analysis for s-wave neutron resonances within the statistical model results in compatible values with previous estimates. The neutron widths obtained in this work are approximately 22% larger compared to other experimental data and evaluated data libraries. Also the thermal capture cross section is larger than most of the recommended values. However, the resonance parameter file presented in this work is consistent with results of both integral experiments and of the experimentally determined resonance integrals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Experimental work is presented detailing tool wear and workpiece integrity results when drilling next generation Haynes 282 aeroengine casing material using coated carbide tooling with high pressure (50 bar) cutting fluid. Testing involved variation in cutting speed and feed rate typically used for Ni-based superalloys. At lower combinations of operating parameters, flank wear was generally uniform however extensive wear/fracture of the tool corner chamfer was evident in the majority of tests. Adhered material up to ∼250 μm long was observed on all machined surfaces, which increased with worn tooling and at higher operating conditions. Microhardness results showed an increase in hardness (up to 50 HK 0.05 above the bulk) within the first 50 μm. Surface/subsurface microstructural damage consisted of deformed grain boundaries up to a depth of ∼15 μm with a discontinuous white layer of up to ∼6 μm from the surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

K+ secretion by strial marginal cell and vestibular dark cell epithelia is regulated by UTP and ATP at both the apical and basolateral membranes, suggesting control by P2Y2 and/or P2Y4 purinergic receptors. Immunolocalization was used to determine the identity and distribution of these putative receptors. Membrane proteins from gerbil brain, gerbil vestibular labyrinth and gerbil stria vascularis were isolated and analyzed by Western blot. P2Y2 antibody stained one band at 42 kDa for each tissue, whereas P2Y4 antibody stained 3 bands on gerbil brain (75, 55 and 36 kDa), one band on gerbil stria vascularis (55 kDa) and two bands on vestibular labyrinth (42 and 56 kDa). All bands were absent when the antibodies were blocked with their respective antigenic peptide. P2Y4 was immunolocalized by fluorescence confocal microscopy to only the apical membrane of strial marginal cells and vestibular dark cells and was similar to apical immunostaining of KCNE1 in the same cells. By contrast, P2Y2 was observed on the basolateral but not the apical membrane of dark cells. Similarly, in the stria vascularis P2Y2 was observed in the basolateral region but not the apical membrane of marginal cells. Additional staining was observed in the spiral ligament underlying the stria vascularis.
